Steve Lightle just posted the following to LegionPics and the LMBP. Since this is an extension of the LMBP I hope Steve doesn't mind me reposting it here and I also hope he'll stop by and shine some light on his statement:

quote:
Hi, everybody!

Steve Lightle talkin' at ya again. Thanks for allowing me to bend your ears for a moment.

Look, there are some great Legion chat clubs and bulletin boards on the web, but I don't always have easy access to each and every one of them. Sometimes servers go down and a site goes on hiatus, a forum is disabled by hacker tomfoolery, my computer mysteriously loses my
electronic bookmarks, or I forget my password ... It's always something.

So here's the deal ... I promise to announce my next Legion project, and share some preview pages on the yahoogroup LEGION - UNITED PLANETS. Anyone who has the slightest interest is welcome to subscribe by sending a letter to: LegionUP-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

I'll post to that group in the next couple of days, and its members can freely distribute that info as they please. It may not be the perfect solution, but it might just work.

Once again, everyone is invited to join up by writing an e-mail to:

LegionUP-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

You can also join by going directly to the website:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LegionUP/

See you there!

Steve Lightle

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing Steve doing some stuff, but "project" implies something finite, like a mini-series. And at *this* juncture, unless it comes with an exceptionally high likelihood (if not outright certainty) of leading into a new ongoing, as Legion Lost did, in many respects a mini is the last thing I want right now.

I'm inclined to agree with you, but what word should Steve have used instead of "project" if what he's describing here is "infinite" (or at least on-going)?

It seems to me the only thing finite about Steve's Legion work lately is his involvement since he's only done an isolated issue here and there. I don't think it's a comment it being a mini -- either way, we'll find out in the next few days if Steve's as forthcoming as he promises.

What's wrong with a mini-series? It's not that a monthly series, these days, is anything non-"finite," after all. This one barely managed to make three years on the stands.

I've long believed that shorter arcs, in miniseries, may be the way to bring in talented creators who are hot to work on the Legion, but not so hot about being burned out by the huge cast. It could lend itself to better characterization. Or more of it. We certainly didn't see gobs of it being worked into the spaces around DnA's plots ... except with "Legion Worlds," which even managed to bring back the backup story.

Gail Simone did mention recently some big name cover artists coming to the Legion. We know about Land and Nowlan. Lightle is one of the best cover artists ever I imagine he is going to be providing covers for the new series.

And if he does I hope he gets to do all the covers for specific arcs. Let's say Pacheco is the other cover artist(wishful thinking) I hope Steve gets to do all the covers relating to one story. I don't care for each month a different cover artist, etc.

Steve referred to "preview pages" so I'm hoping for some interior artwork (that doesn't preclude cover pages, of course). Another thought: some time ago Steve worked up some preliminary Legion animation art, which was yanked from The Legion Companion just prior to publication last year.

I know, I'm getting carried away. It doesn't pay.

A poem for DC Comics

Odi et amo.
Quare id faciam fortasse requiris?
Nescio, sed fieri sentio
Et excrucior.
(Caius Valerius Catullus, 84? B.C.–54? B.C.)

I hate you and I love you.
How's that possible, you ask?
I don't know.
But that's the way I feel,
And it's killing me.

I wonder if Steve means #34 or something further down the line?

Wasn't that the digimon rip-off stuff, with Garth progressively cycling up three levels to become an electrical creature, etc?

If it was #34, why would he need to announce it?

Yeah, there was one with Garth, the Empress and the Eye. Another was the three founders and B5 facing off against Validus, the Empress/Eye, Tharok and the Persuader. I prefer more mature animation subjects, but it was very cute stuff.

To update...

Steve has been sending out a lot of emails today to the yahoo group, all related to The Legion #34: cover proposals, interior pages, his personal feelings about the issue. Some great stuff he's sending us, but it's not about what's happening to LSH after #38.
