He mentions the appointment as the reason why the Legion should swear him in promptly, before he was so harshly ejected from the tryouts by Dorkmic Boy.

And as we all know, in the Legion's time, people only go to Mars.... TO GET MARRIED! So even if Lester had been accepted, he would have been expelled soon after.

One wonders why this important historical deduction has never been made until now.

No doubt Lester would have cancelled - or postponed - his marriage had he been accepted by the Legion. Maybe his fiancée actually bribed the Dork to reject him?

Sentients go to Mars to get konked on the head by a comet, too. I doubt Lester was going there for that, though.

Lash sweetie, there you go trying to get cute again. You know Mars has resorts and stuff. Expensive, too. Certainly far beyond the means of Gigi and Gim in their space-salad days.

Posted by MLLASH on :

Yes. I suppose an appointment to visit a swanky resort is important.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Maybe Cosmic Boy's intense hatred of swanky resorts influenced his quick dismissal of the ill-fated Currency Kid?

Don't people go to Mars to get recruited by the Legion of Super-Villains, as well? Or am I misremembering?

He was taking the VWM to be pedicured. Which is NOT money laundering either.

I thought Mars needed guitars. Or women. Is that why people were going?

I know! He was going to save Dejah Thoris!

Actually, Lester wanted to be in the Legion to be near Gim. He took base-9 profem to become a female Durlan...

Join the Legion or visit a Swanky Resort... you can only do one, not both!

unfortunately, Lester isn't from Carggg.

Maybe he went there to begin an elaborate anti-Legion scheme, culminating in the 80s Starfinger, who was based from Mars.

Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :

Starfinger is so very clearly un-Spiffany that I suspect you sir have been drinking.

Another thing I have been thinking about is the nature of Lester, generally. I believe we have been on the wrong track for the last four decades.

Who else do we know who is very wealthy, has a chauffeur/butler/valet, affects a spoiled, bored, self-centered persona and uses this to cover up his true calling of a crime-fighter? Why, Batman, of course. And Lester was simply inspired to become the 30th century Batman.

That nonsense with the Legion was just for show - and were they ever fooled! He was probably headed to Mars to track down some notorious and elusive space-criminal. And even today, thanks to his cunning genius, no one even suspects!

Isn't he swell?

He looks more like The Smug Wonder to me.

Yes, Cosmic Boy thoroughly enjoyed kicking Lester out of the tryout, I'd wager. QUITE thoroughly.

Lester is an urban legend.

Posted by MLLASH on :

Some say Pop Spiffany molded a boy from clay and he was given life by Martian gods.

This quote was pretty funny after I went back to read the thread to figure out what the hell I was referencing.

Maybe it should be "Lester is an urbane legend".

The more correct term would be "fistorical". [Wink]

That picture, it is one of the best things ever.

A recent review of fistory (5YL - LSH #27) reminds us that Lester was in fact a great philanthropist. He allowed the Stancio Dazzle Gem to be exhibited in Xanthu's Museum of 1000 Worlds.

We have yet to uncover fistorical documents regarding the lawsuit the Spiffanys brought against the SPs when the chief suspect in the Gem's theft, Sussa Pakka, escaped custody.

Even you can never have too much insurance, Lester.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Hmm... do we who Sussa was working for? Could the theft of the Dazle Gem been an elaborate insurance scam?

It's about time somebody bumped a Lester thread.

Perhaps all will be revealed in the upcoming Taurus Gang story.

I'm annoyed at the fact that the picture seems to decayed into red x land.

As have so so so many excellent BITS pictures. [Frown]
