I heard this is 1 of several variants, featuring a team-member in 50s 60s 70s 80s and 90s outfits??? Is this true or rumour-RAMA?

I *do* like it better than the regular cover.

I LOVE the Legion Cruiser in the background!

You got to wonder how bizarre it would be to have a copy of this with Imra in her 90s or 00s costume?

My big problem is that the new LOSH editor Brian Cunningham doesn't know his Legion history -

quote:
“Jim’s schedule is kinda busy, to say the least, but his love of the Legion ultimately prevailed! Jim’s idea for these variants is to spotlight a Legionnaire from a different era. The first cover — Saturn Girl in her 1970s outfit designed by the late, great Dave Cockrum — is sexy as all get-out! I’m not sure who will be on #2’s variant yet — I’m secretly hoping it’s Matter-Eater Lad, but whoever Jim wants to draw is fine by me!”
Everyone knows that costume was designed by K. Haven Metzger of Columbia City, IN!

And while I will enjoy Jim's take on the various eras and Legionnaires...I can't help but think this is another "Gary Frank redesign the Legionnaire costumes to make them unrecognizable" moment. Would a casual reader understand/appreciate why this cover doesn't match the interior? It's almost like DC doesn't want to sell this book to anybody but the members of this forum.

I'm liking it! My only problem...it's hard to tell what her right arm is doing.

With it being a 1:10 variant, I don't think you have to worry about the casual reader picking this up. Only us fans and the speculators.

and the jim lee fans who buy anything with his name on it

I like it as an art piece, but it's certainly not in character. I just can't imagine Imra standing around pouting and flipping her hair.

I certainly won't pay a premium for it.

Lovely cover! yeah I am gonna buy that cover....it kind of reminisces me of Farrah Fawcett (RIP Farrah).

super hot. way better than the hand cover that is equal parts green lantern and legion.

Lee's a bit more cartoony here than before. i liked his more stylized 90s X-men stuff.

If my shop sells this for close to normal price I may pick it up. Most of the variants of this number are 4.99 each.

OMG! When I wrote in the other thread that the only reason Saturn Girl hadn't appeared on any Legion covers yet was because she was going to hog all the variants for herself it was meant to be a JOKE!

Gah! What a disappointment. I hate the regular cover so much I was hoping for a fantastic Jim Lee variant to get instead. And, while it is a nice picture of Imra, the cover of a Legion #1 should have more than one member (or one unidentifiable hand) on it.

I also didn't realise Jim Lee was going to be doing a series of one-character variants. While that will hopefully bring in more sales, my OCD-ness means if I get the Imra cover I will have to keep getting the character covers so as not to break the set. But what if I like some later regular covers more? Dilemma!

ugh. This is not the Legion news I was hoping to start the day with. [Frown]

I sort of like the cruiser. I wonder, though, about the style of sci-fi design that cuts out hull sections to expose machinery. There's something to be said for simplicity.

Imra's costume has become more purple than pink. I actually like that.

Love the cruiser, although it's way, way, way more detailed than any artist would want to draw inside the issues themselves! (And looks a wee bit Star Trek-ish, in the shape.)

What? Oh, thumbs up for classic Imra. I'm long over my love affair with the Farrah look, but it's fun from a nostalgic PoV.

But that's typical of the 70s.

easily you can frame the character covers as I did with JSA Alex Ross cover with black background...it was beautiful.

I am hoping to see Jim Lee drawing two: Colossal Boy's adventure costume era (red/green/yellow scheme) and heh, Cosmic Boy's black bustier costume heh. [Smile]

I like it!
... and I bet the 6 covers are gonna look FABOO when placed side by side!

Not my favorite costume of her's but it makes for a nice cover.

Posted by razsolo on :

Why is her hand glowing? Is there meant to be a flight ring there and he just forgot to draw it?

I don't love it so much, but it's a cute idea, and yay Jim Lee! [Smile]

Great cover - certainly gets some attention, more than the dumb green ring cover anyway...

Something to hunt down at Ebay [Smile]

I still don't like it.
Imra looks old and broken, somehow.

But I'll have to ask for it from my dealer since I really dislike the 'hand' cover.

I hope Jim does a Shady/Umbra costume from the Coipel era.
I'd like a lavender Violet, too.

Presumably the characters represented are from this Legion's past which means that the only candidates from the 90s are XS and Gates.

If Lee is going girl/boy/girl/boy/girl then I would guess something like:

50s: Saturn Girl (original costume)
60s: Lightning Lad
70s: Saturn Girl
80s: Invisible Kid or Polar Boy
90s: XS
00s: Cosmic Boy

If it is all girls, then:

50s: Saturn Girl (original costume)
60s: Triplicate Girl or Dream Girl
70s: Saturn Girl
80s: White Witch or Shrinking Violet
90s: XS
00s: Lightning Lass

Umm, you seem to be forgetting that Imra is the GREATEST PANEL/COVER HOG OF ALL TIME!!!
So that obviously means it gonna be:

50s: Saturn Girl
60s: Saturn Girl
70s: Saturn Girl
80s: Saturn Girl
90s: Saturn Girl
00s: Saturn Girl

yah my shop by home puts all the variant covers out on the shelf, like first com first serve, and i dont even grab the variant cover cause sometimes i prefer the regular ... but this punk *s* shop by school automatically puts the variants covers up on the wall in a plastic bag 20$ 50$

shady.

I have to say I am a bit disappointed after seeing that this mysterious Jim Lee variant is 80s Saturn Girl. Don't get me wrong tho'... the drawing is ok (not Jim's best work), but I guess I was hoping for maybe, I dunno, a group shot or something, the entire team flying up from the clubhouse maybe, anything would be better than the cover with a fist wearing a GL and Legion ring. This Lee variant cover sure aint it!! I honestly don't know if I'll even buy the variant now.
Oh well.

Ya know, on one hand, it's nice to see a sort of realistic chest on a pin-up... on the other hand, it's otherwise a pretty generic pic that doesn't really convey SG's personality at all.

[shrug] Whatever brings in the fans, I guess...

And Sweet Christ, I hate that costume.

Probably.
(I did say 'hope', though)

But, if he just does the current Legion he's leaving out a lot more than the reboot, really.
He should only be able to do the Legion up to the middle/end of the Baxter era, since everything else hasn't happened yet or is in other universes.
He can't do 5yl or TMK or Legion on the Run or 0hr. or Mordruverse or even any of the later years of Baxter (nothing much past the Magic Wars because he can't do any of the Superboy/Supergirl dying and the reprecussions like Lar dying, etc.)
I'm gonna go read that Baxter Era rewrite thread and try an figure out where we are, anyway!

As to who his final 5 are, unless he does like lilrhino says and does ALL Saturn Girl, [LOL] , I don't think that he'll repeat her
