Something VERY weird just happened!

We lost registered members #s 201 and 202, the bad-luck nebula avatar I had JUST switched to and I personally seemed to have just lost 20-odd posts in my post-count.

WTF?!?!

You guys might want to check out Gary's message at Science Police HQ in the Legion World is back thread. He was working on some stuff apparently & that's what caused it.

Still not certain why the posts are off. When I rebuilt the poster stats it should have found and counted all of your posts Lash.

Hot Damn! I lost about 30 posts....I know I went over 130 posts last night (midnight to be exact)...grrr....grrr.....now need to work harder to try to get into Top 40 - it s been my goal ever since. grrr.....grr.....

I am willing to bet the reason the posts are off is because if you have a double post, for whatever reason, then go back and delete it, it does not come off your post count. But after a rebuild it will count only the posts still present. Make sense?

I also get the same message when trying to post. It takes a couple of tries at backtracking before I can access the boards again.

And my count is off as well, so that has to be why. I don't see actual posts missing.

Hey, icey! That stinks. I was worried I would lose more, because I was posting a bit off and on today-- to keep Gary's morale up -- so I can definitely live with just two gone.

Dude, I lost all of our PM's from Sunday night to the Crisis! That actually bummed me out more than all the posts I lost...

Spiders (I call them cyber-spiders for fun) are CGI scripts that search engines use to index sites. They are different than robots in that spiders crawl and index an entire site (crawl the web) and robots just index the index pages.

What I think is happening is our CGI scripts and the Tuesday spider CGI scripts are just overwheleming our server.

RE: Spiders. My question is if that's true then why isn't the text file that they recommend us using not stopping them? I placed the file in several directories above this board as well just to be sure that they wouldn't touch our programs.

RIGHT! I used SoM's link to go stop them and they wanted my first born child! I didn't feel comfortable giving them the info they wanted and didn't appreciate them trying to get me to sign up with them just to stop their damn spiders.
