I've always been a big fan of Legionnaire's families, the Ranzz family, Grev Mallor, Madam President Wazzo, President Marte Allon, Colossal Boy's Micro Lad's gay brother, Pol Krinn, Dr. Londo (mentioned upthread), 3boot Sunboy's parents, Reboot Inferno's dad and even Doyle Brande. Sometimes they add interesting depth and some unexpected plot twists, so..
In the Reboot, Brainiac5's mom was the leader of the Dark Circle (incidentally, I'm sick of the dark Circle and hated the story but..) She was obviously young enough to bear more children and seemed like the type that would do so just to have another tool to manipulate.
What about Brainy's parents? Has he got a dad? Should he? Any siblings?

If Brainy did have siblings, they didn't seem to inherit his level of genius, which would likely mean that their mother spent most of their childhood wishing they could be 'smarter, like Querl.' With Brainy's reputation established because of his work off-Colu, his siblings would likely remain *incredibly* resentful of him, loudly decrying his intellect as being some freak mutation and unnatural, or his off-world research as a betrayal of Colu, or even spreading the rumor that he's 'not all that smart, he just hangs around talking monkeys because he couldn't cut it here...'
For all the bitter commentary, they might react in different ways in their own lines of research. One might dedicate her life to one-upping him, trying to make a smarter Computo or a stronger Force Field Belt or whatever (and occasionally produce some spectacular failure that endangers others and possibly requires Querl himself to be called back to Colu to deal with, only furthering her humiliation and hate for her brother). Another might scoff outwardly at anything Querl has done, while totally avoiding those lines of research out of fear of humiliation, leading him into studies that Querl has ignored, such as social sciences or psychology, and end up looking like a completely different sort of creature, all motivated by his insecurity and unwillingness to attempt any sort of research that his brother has 'already done, better than he ever could.' For all their protestations and derisive commentary about their famous brother, Brainy's siblings entire lives might be defined by his accomplishments, whether they are trying to beat them, or just avoid them entirely.
It's also possible that a Dox sibling might be even more of a freak mutant than any other, and have a normal-sized ego. Asked about her brother, such a Dox might shrug and say, 'Yeah, he's really smart, even by our standards. That's cool. Anyway, I've been working on this new medical scanner that uses AI tech to advance a prognosis to show the effects of a progressive condition before it actually happens, allowing for predictive therapy...'

Jo, after years of hanging with the wrong crowd on Rimbor meets the girl of his dreams. They're getting serious about settling down together. Her folks aren't too crazy about Jo, but her dog likes him.
In an act of impulsiveness, Jo borrows a cruiser from the garage where he's been working and takes the girl into orbit around Rimbor where he plans to propose.
They crash into a "dragon," the Rimborian slang term for the orbiting genetic-labs in Rimbor space left over from the bio-genetic wars generations ago. The girl is killed. Jo attains his super-powers at the hands of the scientists in the lab.
Jo leaves Rimbor while under investigation for the death of his girlfriend in the "borrowed" cruiser.
<< A Mark Waidian lapse occurs, and Jo is a Legionnaire>> Jo makes a remark about his (former girlfriend's) dog to invisible kid.

Ooh, the 'space dragon' as an orbital lab. Very cool! There don't even have to be scientists still up there, it could be deserted and left over bio-toxins responsible for Jo's condition, or it may have been re-purposed by criminal elements as an orbital manufacturing facility for illicit substances!
The 'ex-girlfriend's dog' comment could be a dig at ex-girlfriend Ayla and her ex-boyfriend Brin.

House of El
Laurel Kent, who has chosen the super-hero sobriquet of Adamantine (and is NOT a robot, Manhunter or otherwise, being a several times removed descendent of Clark and Lois), is approached by a masked blonde who calls herself Sensor (and she is NOT Projectra of Orando, being a several times removed descendent of Kara Zor-El and a dude whose name remains unrevealed until later). Fellow Academy student (and not-really boyfriend) Jed Rikane, aka Power Boy, tags along with her and they end up on a series of adventures to restore the House of El, which is being targetted by unknown forces that want to kill the descendents of Superman (and Supergirl)!
In a series of last-minute rescues, they locate three other descendents of Superman or Supergirl, who each have a single Kryptonian power.
Gaze, a male, has the power of heat vision, a descendent of Clark and Lois. Flashfire, a female, has the power of super-speed, a descendent of Clark and Lois. Skyborne, a male, has the power of flight, thought to be a descendent of Clark and Lois, but later discovered to be a descendent of Conner and Cassie!
Laurel frets that they may have gotten into action too late to save the inheritor of Superman's great strength, but Sensor keeps telling her not to worry about it. During the climactic final fight, Laurel finally clues into the fact that the assassins are not just trying to kill the five of them, but they are also specifically trying to kill Jed with their kryptonite-fueled weapons! He admits that he's a descendent of Kara Zor-El and Jimmy Olsen, and that he was raised on a planet where the solar radiation levels are such that everyone dyes their skin for protection. While he, because of his Kryptonian heritage, however dilute, doesn't need that sort of permanant sunscreen, he has followed the customs of his birth-world, so as to better fit in. He takes the name Potence, and the six of them form their own super-team / super-family as the House of El, drawn together, like so many super-teams before them, by the ill-advised actions of enemies who wanted them dead...
Ah, but what if it wasn't an 'enemy plan' after all? They end up working out of a base deep beneath the city, where an artificially intelligent computer system that calls itself 'Oracle' coordinates their activities, a computer that first hired and equipped the 'assassins' who gathered them together in the first place!
The legacy of Superman isn't the only one that has left its mark reaching all the way into the 31st century, after all!

I've fleshed this story out a bit more in my head, but haven't taken the time to make it into a genuine work of fanfic. Stay tuned.
