Yes and no. By all accounts I've ever read, their real-life persons were nothing like their on-screen ones. While this might be true of almost any celeb, these combos in particular consistently played the same on-screen roles.
Also, I do recall other playing (or rather trying to play) Abbott and Costello. SCTV of the late 70s comes to mind.
But rather than quibble, I suggest we stay away from this line, and I apologize for delving into it. I'd rather not see us getting into casting David Letterman (for example, whose over-the-top show personality seems to be very different than when he's himself) or even Stephen Colbert (who never seems to 'break character').
So no more real (or 'real') actors, unless someone actually has played them (Robert Downey Jr.'s Charlie Chaplin, for instance) in a well-known performance (in which case, it might not be a bad idea to cite such performance, as we sometimes note a movie/TV show a character comes from).
