Well I've finally got round to sorting things and the first half of the Queen of Diamonds #2 is now on-line over at the Gay League website http://www.gayleague.com/online/qod/qodintro.php

I'm still in the process of redrawing the second half but all going well it should be ready to go up some time in February. #3 is already finished (with a sort of cameo from our very own Beagle Boy) so that should follow on fairly soon after and #4 is mostly pencilled so shouldn't be too far behind that.

Any thoughts, praise, criticism, questions, whatever very muchly appreciated. Also any thoughts specifically with regards to the lettering would be very good. It's the first time I've actually done hand lettering myself and I'd really like to know if people think it's legible and so on.

Enjoy. [Smile]

Gah! [Frown]

I got your e-mail link yesterday, Bev... Sorry I haven't had the chance yet to give it a proper look-thru.

Covers look promising, though! [Cool]

Bevis this is great! I love the character the Q of D, cheeky, funny, driven - the best sort of solo star!

And that woman, Lili is a quality grade A bitch!

The film Noir style of art kind of reminds me of V for Vendetta, very atmospheric! Creepy and cool at the same time.

The lettering (since you asked) is clear though sometimes a bit big - not majorly intrusive though, more like a 2000AD strip style (brit art).

This is tremendous! My arms aren't long enough to pat your back in Mancunia so you'll have to get Ultra Matt to do it for me.

Beautiful images, Bevis. Very effective in black and white, I wonder if it would lose something in colour? Some of your panels used unusual perspective - such as the one showing Lili entering the room, all we see is her midriff.

I like the hero and hope you develop his personality/history/personal life in the future. Also, he's not masked ... that in itself raises questions. Is his confident banter his mask? He seems to act as if the vigilante business is a lark, but I suspect he takes it very seriously. How does he interact with the police, with the public? Is he mostly unknown at this point? He reminds me of the Batman (the cape/coat, the shadows) without the emotional baggage - the Queen seems to be well-balanced (or is he?).

The lettering looked great - easy to read on the screen.

The only negative (or semi-negative) comment I'd make is that Lili, on the last page, looks like she's been hitting the steroids for those upper arm muscles. But I'm also thinking that perhaps you mean for her to have a very strong upper body. No doubt she would just as soon bash someone with her fists as stick them with a pin.

Thanks y'all. [Smile]

Ooh, comparrisons with V For Vendetta, I'm *very* happy with that. [Big Grin] Glad that the lettering works as well. It is slightly large but it needs to be big enough that when it's done as a print version it's not too small. Each page will be A5 size so about half the size it appears on screen. Quite hard to get the balance right, but slightly too big on-line is better than to small on paper, if you see what I mean.

Ah Lili, I like Lili. She is a grade A bitch and believe me she gets worse. Like the Queen exactly who and what she is is going to take a little time to reveal completely. Let's just say there's a lot more to her than at first appears. oh, and she has big shoulder pads in her suit in issue 2 but you'r eright FC, she is still a bit bulky in the last panels. But your also right in guessing Lili would be no slouch in the hands on fight department.

As for the Queen himself... yes we will find out more about him but it'll be a while before we get his full back story. At least five or six issue down the line, more maybe, but it all links into the other main baddie in his world. I'll be dropping hints and bits of info here and there. His past also explains why he doesn't wear a mask and doesn't actually have a name.

At the moment, at least for this first story arc, he is pretty much unknown to the public. He's got some notoriety (hence Lili's interest in him) but he's not a public figure. Yet.

He is a bit of a spin oon the Batman type hero, but, like you say FC, without the baggage. The Queen loves what he does, he's confident and flamboyant and over the top but he's also damn good at what he does. He's only cocky because he knows when not to be. Baasiclly I got a bit bored with all the terribly earnest, grim and gritty superhero fair and wanted to do something that just hearkened back to the sheer fun of comics. Not to say there aren't dark elements to his world, but being a superhero is fun, or at least that's how I view it. Not to say he doesn't have emotional issues or personal problems but they're to do with just having relationships rather than because he's a hero, if you see what I mean. Kind of like a superhero version of Buffy I guess.

No set schedule really, it's just as and when I get an issue finished. There was a huge gap between getting #1 up and the first part of #2 but I intend to get the rest of #2 finished and online by the start of february at the latest (ideally mid January really) and i already have #3 all finished so that's ready to go on-line. Before posting it though I'm going to make sure I have #4 mostly done as well, so all being well I would say the rest of #2 next month, then #3 either at the end of February or the start of March and #4 some time in April. That'll take us to the end of the first arc and then after that who knows... #5 should be a stans alone story and #6 and #7 is a two parter so chances are they'll follow fairly quickly after each other. It's only multi-part stories that might take a little more time in the future (other commitments willing of course).

Read issue #1 last night. Good stuff! It would be enough to make me want to buy the follow-up issue. I'll read issue #2 later in the week.

Great stuff as usual, Bev!

And speaking of great stuff, are you making an LMBP or Legion calendar for 2004? [Cool]
