We got a great big convoy Rockin through the night Yeah we got a great big convoy Ain't she a beautiful sight C'mon and join our convoy Ain't nothin' gonna get in our way We gonna roll this truckin convoy 'cross the USA! Convoy... (blaap blaap) Convoy!
(To be sung in the voice of Homer Simpson with belching accompanyment.)
As I stand here all alone, shoulders shudder in my cold. Hid my bruises, hid my secrets in my heart for too long. Well, I’m standing on my own. Your house never was my home. That was yesterday, and memories don’t fade away.
There’s a picture on the wall, Father’s arms around his daughter. She pleads, “Father, Daddy, when will you be a man?” Be a man. A man.
When you kicked me down the stairs, to my haven underground. Said I wasn’t worth the dirt under your fingernails. When you said you wanted more, then you labeled me a whore. And these days forget, but nothing mutes the wound inside!
There’s a picture on the wall, Father’s arms around his daughter. Her eyes brim with tears, but smile to hide the hate inside her heart. There’s a picture on the wall, Daddy’s arms around his Princess. She pleads, “Daddy, go away!” Away, away. Dearest, Daddy’s gone away. Take me away!
There’s a picture on the floor, broken glass shards in my toes. My blood stains the carpet, my bloodstain’s a memory. There’s a picture on the floor, broken glass rings through my soul, Dad, these scars won’t fade away!

From the band "OneTrueThing" - I love this song:
Change
An old farmhouse stands alone, garage tacked to its side. Old man inside keeps telling me he wants to die. Says, “I don’t got much these days...just some photos and a clock, reminding me how fast the time is passing by.” Well I don’t even know your name. Don’t even know your name, but I wanted to tell you things change. A young girl cries in my ear, her heart tries not to break. She holds her own, but indecision makes her shake. She’s got so much left to give, all her thoughts and all her dreams, reminding me how fast the time is passing by. Well I don’t even know your name. Don’t even know your name, but I wanted to tell you things change. Things change

DIscussions of Gail's first issue over on the LEGION board reminded me of the song VERDI CRIES from the 10,000 Maniacs cd IN MY TRIBE, which I hadn't listened to in years. I'm glad I was reminded, that is one GREAT cd!!
And I want to say Want to say, "What's the matter here?" But I don't dare say "What's the matter here?"
-- WHAT'S THE MATTER HERE
You've put in about half a day While here I lie With a shiver in my bones Just thinking about the weather
-- ABOUT THE WEATHER
The man in 119 takes his tea all alone Mornings we all rise To wireless Verdi cries I'm hearing opera through the door

This is one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite groups - Blue Rodeo from Canada. This song is sort of soft country rock and the lead singer has a voice that'll just melt your socks.
Artist: Blue Rodeo Song: Bad Timing Album: Just Like A Vacation
Hey it's me what a big surprise Calling you up from a restaurant round the bend Just got in from way up North I'm achin' and tired now and I could use a friend
I might be a fool To think that you do wanna see me again...
I know it's been awhile since i talk to you nothing wrong, just nothing ever goes as planned many times i thought i'd call but didn't have your number in my hand
I know it's true that you'd never do the same thing to me...
I never meant to make you cry and though I know i shouldn't call it just reminds us of the cost of everything we've lost bad timing that's all And maybe soon there'll come a day when no more tears will fall we each forgive a little bit and we both look back on it it's just bad timing that's all
we used to have so many plans something always seemed to turn out wrong never could catch up to you moving on and doing all you've done
I don't know why The harder I try the harder it comes
I never meant to make you cry and though I know i shouldn't call it just reminds us of the cost of everything we've lost bad timing that's all And maybe soon there'll come a day when no more tears will fall we each forgive a little bit and we both look back on it it's just bad timing that's all

I know you're not a bad girl, honey No matter what the neighbours say! It's just you wear those skin-tight dresses With your G-string tuned to 'A'
*whaps side of head* Song.. is stuck..
Sweet, sweet, child of the street
*whaps head and more lyrics fall out*
Kitten's got claws She'll tear your heart out Kitten's got claws She'll scratch your back...

I keep hearing this one on the radio, and they won't say what it is or who it's buy:
I don't like your fashion business, mister I don't like that pill that makes you thin I don't like what happened to my sister First -- we'll take Manhattan Then we'll take Berlin!
Here's one I *can* identify: "The Messenger", Tea Party
Got a letter from a messenger I read it when it came It said that you were wounded You were bound and chained You were lovéd, you were handled You were poisoned, you were pained Oh no, oh no You were naked, you were shamed
You could almost touch Heaven Right there in front of you Liberty just slipped away on us Now there's so much work to do But the door that closes tightly Is the door that can swing wide Oh no, oh no Not expecting to collide
For a minute I let my guard down Not afraid to be found out Completely forgot, dear, What our fears were all about Oh no, oh no There's no need to be without
If there's a chance, I will take it This desire I can't kill, no Here's my heart, please don't break it I will crawl to your foothill I am frightened but I'm coming Please, baby, please lay still Oh no, oh no, I'm not coming for the kill Oh no, I'm not coming for the kill Oh no, I'm not coming for the kill

It's by Leonard Cohen. I believe it's called "First We'll Take Manhattan". Your station may be playing the version R.E.M. did for a tribute album a few years back, or maybe someone else covered it recently.
