I just got an e-mail stating the Bob Denver, Gilligan of "Gilligan's Island" has passed away at the age of 70. No other details were provided.
That leaves the movie star, Professor and Mary Ann. :sigh: More of my childhood slips away.
[edit note]Fox News is reporting that Denver passed away from complications from treatments he was receiving for cancer. Also, he passed away on Friday, 9/2.

Thurston: Oh Gilligan. Gilligan: Oh hi Mr. and Mrs. Howell. Lovey: Is there something wrong Gilligan? Thurston: Yes yes my boy. You seem like you're in another world. Gilligan: Mr. Howell don't say that, I want to stay here in this world. Thurston: Permission granted. HAH! Lovey: Thurston you're so democratic. Thurston: Lovey, Lovey. Watch your language.

Is that an actual quote or did you just make it up LL? Either way it's very good. I loved Gilligan's Island as a kid. Such wacky fun. And you're right, so many pieces of childhood and simpler times slipping away. It's sad.

It is an actual quote for "Ghost A Go-Go", near the end of the second season.

Man-- I had no idea he was 70. How time flies! Gilligans Island was a true joy growing up. R.I.P Mr Denver.

What is happening here??? Is 2005 the official year of departed TV icons?
First Scotty passes - now poor dopey loveable Gilligan. There were once seven stranded castaways - now only three remain on that desert island...

Growing up in an abusive household, I could always count on Gilligan being there everyday on TBS at 4:00 o'clock after school. It was the one time of the day that I could "tune out" the yelling and fighting and violence. I would wish that I was on that island with Gilligan and his friends and be the 8th castaway. (I sure felt like it at the time.) Thank you for the escape Mr. Denver, and for all the laughs which were so hard to come by during my youth. God Bless you, and give the Skipper and the Howells a hug for me!
