Wouldn't it be interesting if perhaps Nightwind had something in her past or a personality deviance (picked up by Saturn Girl scanning applicants) that was secretly her real reason for ongoing rejection?
Perhaps it would have been more interesting in-story to have Nightwind be the long dormant Manhunter, though I'd hate to have the character meet such a fate.

I know Lamprey and Nightwind and many other students were once rejected for not being ready. Maybe the real reason for Nightwind being passed up was simply lack of maturity. I read somewhere that her new "look" with the hood and all was an attempt to be taken more seriously.

I recall reading that too, IB. I actually really liked that idea - despite the fact they're not always drawn as such, we have to remember these are impressionable teenagers trying desperately to please their idols.
