I mean, he's named after Robin Hood, right?

Actually, he should be the Joker's sidekick, because I think post-Crisis he was named after Robin Williams [Smile]

I thought Robin should be Lex Luthor's sidekick, named after Robin Leach, the "Lifestlyes of the Rich and Famous" guy.

It was revealed in Nightwing #7, that Dick's momther used to call him 'little Robin'. I don't know originally how the name came about but that's the current continuity explanation.

No. Originally he was, in fact, actually named for the bird. That's why his costume is red. "robin red breast." Bats and birds, winged creatures. The bats is a dark winged creature of the night, the Robin a bright colorful bird of the day. Nightwing & Flamebird and all that sort of thing.

Some retons are just superfulous.

And on that whole "Misnamed sidekick thing" the obvious one was always that Flash's sidekick should have been named "Speedy".

It must seem that way to modern generations. On the other hand, when you look at the real-life chronology of things, it's easy to see it couldn't be so...

Apr'40 / DETECTIVE COMICS #38 -- Robin The Boy Wonder

Nov'41 / MORE FUN COMICS #73 -- The History Club (debut of GA & Speedy)

Jan'60 / THE FLASH #110 -- Meet Kid Flash!

I figured while I was at it, I might as well pull out BATMAN ARCHIVES Vol.1 which reprints DETECTIVE COMICS #38...

"And thus Dick Grayson by the hand of fate, is transformed into that astonishing phenomenon, that young Robin Hood of today-- ROBIN THE BOY WONDER!"

So, if Speedy should be Robin, and Kid Flash should be Speedy, does that mean Robin should be Kid Flash? [Big Grin]
