I have to say The Breakfast Club which would also be my favorite 80's soundtrack.

Breakfast Club, definitely.

And I never wanted to be Rob Lowe -- I identified with Andrew McCarthy in St Elmo's. Something about the creative, sensitive one who pines for the gal he can never have...

Sixteen Candles followed by the Breakfast Club. Pretty in Pink would rate a lot higher if she'd have gone with Ducky.

Re: "Breakfast Club", is it just me or was anyone else annoyed that the Ally Sheedy character ditches her black look and ends up dating the jock? [Frown]

It wasn't just you. He wouldn't like her unless she got all light'n'prettied up, eh? Not my idea of every teenager's fantasy.

If it counts, 16 Candles is by far my favorite, but it doesn't seem like a Brat Pack movie. What others are there to choose from besides B Club and St. Elmo's Fire? Young Guns?

Perhaps we should rename this thread "Favorite Brat Pack/John Hughes Movie?"

If that was the case, then definitely Sixteen Candles is my favorite, with Breakfast Club coming in next. Wasn't really a fan of St Elmo's Fire. I really only watched it because of Rob Lowe [Smile]

I think anything that starred any of the following during the 1980's is considered a Brat Pack movie. The Brat Pack, officially, consisted of:

The Players:
Matthew Broderick
Tom Cruise
Matt Dillon
Robert Downey, Jr.
Emilo Estevez
Anthony Michael Hall
Rob Lowe
Ralph Macchio
Andrew McCarthy
Demi Moore
Molly Ringwald
Judd Nelson
Sean Penn
Ally Sheedy
Charlie Sheen
Keifer Sutherland
Mare Winningham

The Second Team:
Kevin Bacon
Jon Cryer
John Cusak
Jami Gertz
Jennifer Grey
C. Thomas Howell
Timothy Hutton
Mary Stuart Masterson
Tim Robbins
Mickey Rourke
James Spader
Eric Stoltz
Patrick Swayze
Daphne Zuniga

I'm basing this on the book Brat Pack Confidential.

So what was there?

About Last Night
All the Right Moves
Breakfast Club
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Footloose
Less Than Zero
Losin' It
One Crazy Summer
Over the Edge
Oxford Blues
Pretty in Pink
Red Dawn
Risky Business
Rumble Fish
Say Anything
Sixteen Candles
Some Kind of Wonderful
St. Elmo's Fire
The Lost Boys
The Outsiders
Wargames
Weird Science
Young Guns

Of course most of us consider the John Hughes movies as the Brat Pack movies. Do you wonder what John Hughes Brat Packer you are? Take the quiz.

Faves here are "About Last Night" (based on David Mamet's far superior play, "Sexual Perversity in Chicago"), "St. Elmo's Fire," "Ferris Bueller," and the supremely witty and surprisingly chilling "WarGames."

Demi Moore was marvelous as the cokehead in "St. Elmo's." I kid you not. She didn't do anything to exceed it until she played Hester Prynne in "The Scarlet Letter," one of the great dramatic turns (along with Gary Oldman) of the 1990s. I kid you not.

Why is Mickey Rourke on that list? He seems out of place (and older) to me.

Of that movie list, my 3 fav are:
-- Breakfast Club
-- Some Kind of Wonderful
-- Sixteen Candles

I took the quiz too and got Ally Sheedy in "Breakfast Club"! I certainly don't mind that one but I'm NOT cleaning myself up for Emilio Estevez or anyone else!!

Btw, when I worked in film years ago, I was on a movie with Ally Sheedy (I still have the Poloroid), Eric Stoltz, Rae Dawn Chong (she even wore my jacket) and Justine Bateman. It was a totally 80's experience!

I wondered the same thing myself when compiling the list. I think he was included because of he was in Rumble Fish with Matt Dillon.

That's cool Drake! What film was that?

The closest I've ever come to Hollywood was working in Wendover, Nevada when they filmed the moive Wind out there. I met Jennifer Gray and Matthew Modine. Both were great and very nice. Just like ordinary people. But they were lousy gamblers. I think they each dropped a few hundred at one of the crap tables in the casino I worked in.

As far as movies go, didn't "Class" star Rob Lowe and Andrew Mccarthy, thus making it a Brat Pack film, even if it was made prior to the Brat Pack being known as the Brat Pack?

Anyway, I took the Brat Pack test and I am Mary Stuart Masterson! Who knew!?!?

From the website: "Although you have a tough exterior, you are sensitive and loving. Sadly, you keep your feelings bottled up and almost lose the guy. You are a great kisser. (Rokky say: Gay Legion Lovers take note! I will prove it to all of you!) You like diamonds, and will gladly help shop for them, knowing they might be yours if you just make the right moves. Oh-so-much cuter than Molly Ringworm, you should have been the star of all John Hughes movies. Possible careers: replacing that one-armed drummer in Def Leppard, chaffeur, or fried green tomato maker."

I didn't even see Some Kind of Wonderful, but I do believe that I should have played the Molly Ringwald role in all of John Hughes' films, so I think the test really nailed me.

It was a little indie called "Highball" -- it was one of those loosely scripted, mostly ad-libbed kinda comedies. Ended up being a straight to cable kinda thing. I was there as a set dresser / prop guy.
