In the same week, we also lost Dick Clark and Greg Ham of Men At Work.
It's been a sad week for music.

If anyone hasn't read Barney Hoskyns' definitive Band biography, "Across the Great Divide," I highly recommend it. Levon Helm comes across in it as a flawed but admirable figure, a real salt-of-the-earth kind of person.
Regarding Greg Ham, I saw Men At Work live several years ago, and even though Colin Hay was a genial and likeable frontman, it was Greg Ham's deadpan comedy-relief clowning that really made the show memorable.

The Band was a classic. Levon Helm toured a few years ago with Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band. He always struck me as a very generous performer.
