I've never really been into video games. I mean, back in the 80's, my friends and I would play Asteroids and Galaga (is that right?) and so on, but I don't play any of the current stuff that's available. However, I have three kids and they are all into video games, especially my 16 year old. (For the record, my wife and I strictly enforce a "weekends only" rule when it comes to these, except in the summer, when there is more flexibility.)

I do believe that the Legion could make me into a "gamer" though. Last night, my son was playing Soul Caliber (anyone know it?). It's basically a battle game, where you can design the look of your warrior, choosing from LOTS of options, like gender, facial features and colors, hair styles and colors, dozens of costumes, etc. Then you choose your weapon and go fight! There are lots of backgrounds, some totally amazing to look at.

I asked my son if we could make one of the characters look like a Legionnaire. Sure! So of course, I wanted Dream Girl. It was amazing! You can't make any pieces, you have to use what they provide, so this version of Dreamy had a two piece costume in platinum, with silver boots and arm bands, but she looked like an animated, ready to fight DREAM GIRL on TV!!!!! I was thrilled. Well, then we had to make more so we made Shadow Lass, so distinct with the blue skin and black hair/costume/cape. We had these two fight. I was in fanboy supergeeked out heaven!!!!!

Now it was ON! We tried to make Saturn Girl, in the pink bikini and boots, etc, but although it came close to looking like her, without the little saturn symbol, she just looked like a hot blonde in pink. When we made a red and white ensemble, it looked more like her, but still not that instant recognizability. We tried Phantom Girl, and got pretty close to the Cockrum bell bottom outfit and pig tails, but the top never looked right. Then we did an all white body suit with white cape, which looked like our Tinya but it really needed a big P on the chest, or a red jewel at the neck, but neither could be found.

After lots and lots of character designing, we ended up making the following...
Projectra in Adventure Era costume
Karate Kid " "
Mordru, with a more ornate outfit, but it totally looked like him
Time Trapper!
Persuader, without the mask/helmut. He looked AWESOME, wielding a big ax!
Quicksand, one of my obscure favorites
Emerald Empress, with no EYE, but with a sword and big round green shield
Mon-El, minus the golden round buttons, but it still looked like him.
Glorith!

It was really fun watching the various Legion characters animated, in action. I loved watching Karate Kid versus Persuader in a Japanese looking setting. Projectra versus Empress in a royal looking castle setting. But the most "comic scene come to life" battle was Mon-El versus Time Trapper in this cosmic "end of time" setting.

As you can tell, I was blown away by how fun this was to create and watch in action. My son and I will *definitely* be trying to create more Legion characters. I want to try taking pictures of the screen with my digital camera. I couldn't find it last night without disturbing the other sleeping family members, but I'll look for it today. If I get some decent pictures, I'll post them. Seriously, it was so cool to watch! Can't wait to try Lu Purple vs Lu Orange! I bet we can approximate a good Charma. The list goes on....

Naturally, this all leads me to look forward to whatever video games come from the new cartoon series. I know I'll be getting whatever is put out there. It's just so fun. Yes, the Legion could make a gamer out of me.

Okay, since my post this morning, we've made Duo Damsel Purple versus Duo Damsel Orange. We had them fighting against a snowy, mountainous background, on a castle-like balcony. We also made Brainiac 5 versus Darkseid. Darkseid wasn't big enough, but the idea was intact. Made a Charma character, but didn't keep her. She was recognizable, though.

Way too fun!

Oooh, you definitely need to take pictures of these.

My partner's a gamer, and that's the only modern game where I can kick his butt since it's all "button mashing." Yes, there are specific combos and such you can activate, but I'm not coordinated enough, so I just hit all the buttons. [Smile]

I didn't know, however, that you can create your own characters on it. He didn't show me that. Now I know what I'll be doing all weekend. [Smile]

The character creation tools are my sole reason for playing the WWE wrestling games....cosmic boy vs cosmic king. Vi vs emerald empress. chemical king, tyroc and validus in a three way battle to the death!!!! oh my!!!
I haven't tried SC but one of my favorite series "Mortal Kombat" is releasing a new game this fall with a similiar feature, I can't wait!!!

Hey that WWE game sounds fun. One of the little issues with the SC game is that the characters have to have a weapon in hand (or foot). Still, an inconsistency worth the other thrills!

I've taken pictures of my tv with the Legion designs from Soul Calliber on. Some of the picture quality isn't the best, but it's pretty fun. I started a thread in the Bits section....
