Not sure if this has been discussed before but has anyone seen the previews for JSA 10?

Click Here For A SpoilerLooks like Starman’s giving the readers some clues. Seems like Brainy has a map of the multiverse back in the 31st Century and that Thom was not supposed to be in the past but spent time on Earth 22 with the Kingdom Come Superman before arriving with the JSA.

How this all fits in with the current Legion and the upcoming Legion arc in Action I'm not sure

Click Here For A SpoilerDoes this mean that the Multiverse survives countdown and that there is a Legion on most Earths?

Wonder if the editors have ok'd these sort of references to make sure they all line up.

Far, first, I have to say at DC these days I don't think the left hand knows what the right hand is doing.

That being said, I think it means that post-IC there is a multiverse and we know there are at least three Legions among the 52 Earths.

Lightning Saga Legion (which is basically being presented as the origional pre-boot Legion all the way up until Crisis on Infinite Earths, whose history continued on a divergent path rather than the one we read about) saw their Thom go back in time, spend some time on Earth-22 (which may or may not have its own Legion), and then end up on 'New Earth'.

We do not know yet if Lightning Saga Legion will be designated to one of the Earths.

Embarrassing confession time: I never read Kingdom Come.

So, am I assuming properly that this Superman may have done some questionable things?

Short version - in the KC future, the generation of heroes that followed the current one were in general careless and violent. One called Magog (who looked a lot like Cable from X-Men) worked in Metropolis in rivalry with Superman. When the Joker turned up in Metropolis and killed everyone in the Daily Planet building (Lois and Jimmy included) Magog killed him outright. Magog went on trial for murder but was acquitted and Superman retired, feeling he was no longer wanted.

The older generation of heroes followed suit and left the general populace at the mercies of the newer "heroes." Years later Magog, Captain Atom and KC versions of other Charlton heroes tracked the Parasite to Kansas and attacked him. It's implied later that Parasite wasn't much of a threat, but when cornered he managed to crack open Captain Atom, which destroyed most of Kansas in an atomic blast.

Soon after Wonder Woman approaches Superman who is in self imposed exile in the Fortress of Solitude. He has a replicated farm inside where he spends his time. WW attempts to shame him into returning but leaves without him. Later on, some cititzens are trapped between rival gangs of "heroes" fighting each other out of boredom. Superman appears out of nowhere to defuse the situation and announcing his return.

His return galvanizes most of the older heroes, who return to active duty with him as their leader. There are many holdouts though, including Bruce Wayne who has retired as Batman but runs an underground network of heroes from the Batcave. Wayne refuses Superman's request to join him. Slowly some of the latter generation also join Superman, including the version of Starman currently serving in the JLA.

Resistance from the remaining rogue heroes and the remaining supervillains eventually pushes Superman to have a giant prison fortress built to contain them while trying to get them to reform. At the same time, Lex Luthor leads a group of former costumed villains of the previous generation as an underground human resistance which forms an alliance with Bruce Waynes. Luthor's ace up his sleeve is that he also has Captain Marvel on his team.

Things reach a head with an attempted breakout at the fortress, and a simultaneous takedown of Luthor's group by Wayne's. Unfortunately, Captain Marvel escapes and heads to the fortress to confront Superman. All of Superman's Justice League arrive at the prison to battle the escapees and are later joined by Batman's group with Wayne in a powered Batsuit.

In New York, the assembled world leaders decide it would be prudent to eliminate the superhuman threat for good, and send three bombers with nuclear weapons to wipe out all the combatants. WW and Batman take down two of the bombers but the third drops its payload. Superman is on the verge of being defeated in combat with Captain Marvel. Marvel repeatedly calls out "Shazam," and dodges the magical lightning while letting it strike Superman. Superman evades the lightning while moving Marvel into it's path, transforming him back into Billy Batson. Superman explains that he no longer knows what's best for humanity but since Batson is the world's mightiest mortal, he needs him to decide. Batson again calls "Shazam" and flies off to intercept the bomb, detonating it in midair. The resulting explosion kills most of the combatants though many had died in the combat. Some survive but Superman leads the survivors in unmasking and setting a new tone in superhuman relations with the general populace.

In general, he's portrayed as somewhat out of touch and aloof from humanity, having abandoned his Clark persona along with "Superman" going only as Kal-El. His poor decisions lead to the brink of total destruction but in the end he regains his moral compass.

It may be a good thing that you haven't read Kingdom Come to date, Q. Esq, because I thought it was a GREAT story by Waid and the reason I was super-excited about his return to the Legion scripting a few years back. Needless to say, I was totally disappointed in the Legion effort.

I recommend you do read KC sometime, as it has had a broad influence since in the DC Universe.

I find it interesting that they are hyping JSA #11 as "Superman meets Superman". They already met, in "The Kingdom" #2... oops! Unless that already got wiped out with a Prime punch.

We only saw a glimpse of Earth-22/KC-world's Legion in KC itself... this could well be the Reboot legion, with or without Matrix Supergirl (and presumably definitely without Kon-El Superboy) as depicted in KC #1.

I thought "the Kingdom" was universally disregarded anyways. I never read it because I was warned off it, but I don't think anyone considers "the Kingdom" to be a part of Kingdom Come (it was Prime-punched away before there was a Prime-punch)

I never read "The Kingdom," but as I understood it, that was a lynchpin of the whole Hypertime, where KC was a possible future of the DCU... therefore, that part of the DCU may be in E-22's past, but not in current continuity's past.

In other words, maybe E-22 Supes the culmination of Byrne continuity (for Supes, now also disowned from DCU proper), thus DCU Supes of The Kingdom was not the current Supes.

As KC LSH seemed to be the Reboot LSH, this would fit, since the only Supes they ever met was the Byrne-created one.
