Lightning Lord? Saturn Queen? Cosmic King?
That's kinda presumptuous, don't you think? Who died and made Mekt 'lord' anyway?
Emerald Empress at least conquered a planet and ruled over it, what's Sun Emperor's excuse?

Is it possible that Saturn Queen just tucks really really good and we have never noticed?

It might point to grander plans, but with a few notable exceptions most Legion super-villains are like Flash Rogues or Spider-villains. I think most of the villains would grow bored if they actually succeeded in killing the heroes.

It could be that democratic ideals are so ingrained in the mindset of much of the thirtieth century, that royal titles are just automatically associated with "evil" (except on "backwards" planets like Orando), so they'd be natural for villains to adopt.
The one that's always weird, however, is Cosmic King. The rest are at least the opposite number of their respective Legionnaires. Why the heck does CK decide to set himself up as the opposite number of Cosmic Boy?

I guess in Mekt's defence he's battier than Bruce Wayne's underwear drawer....and isn't Saturn Queen actual royalty on Titan? Or was that just a 5YL thing?
I guess Sun Emperor could declare a sun his empire...I don't imagine the sun cares much either way...
I'm with you on Cosmic King though, I imagine Saturn Queen and Lightning Lord were really annoyed when he answered their craigslist ad, arrived in his Evil Cosmic Boy costume and then had powers completely unlike Cos. Probably why he didn't get invited to their latest LSV shindig.

[tangent] Finding out that there are gas-and-plasma-bodied energy creatures living in suns, could be neat. [/tangent]

Didn't Cosmic Boy have 'magnetic eyes' or something, way back in the day, and Cosmic King have transmutation beams from his eyes?
"What? You wanted someone like Cosmic Boy! I have a bubble on my head, I shoot beams from my eyes and I even have the same haircut!"
Wow, 'magnetic eyes' as a power could suck.
"Oh, look, a sewing room full of... Aiii! Needles! In my eyes!"

She did call Saturn Queen out on it last time they met.

I think she called Emerald Empress a poser too.
She seems to really like that she is authentically a princess or queen.
'look a queen is a real thing, like me, ruler of a planet, i've got a crown ... i'm a queen ... you can't just go around calling yourself a queen because it sounds cool'

Chemical reactions are responsible for so much in the biological and non-biological world! Characters like Chemical King and Element Lad are seriously underrated in modern comic books.

I was thinking the same thing.
I always thought Condo should have been Chemical Kid, but perhaps Shooter wanted some variety in the names.

heh....all I remember the guy named Jungle King and he tried to conquer the planet full of animals and he got "overthrown" by a Gas Beast.
I have wondered why Sun Woman was not called "Sun Queen" as she was using her power to dictate her people until Night Girl freed them.
Queen Azure...Prince Evillo....Lord of Time...I thought that Lord of Time would be neat for a villains book.

You know I always just assumed (and its funny, especially given the massive interest in a real Royal event that’s just been shown by you lot over the pond) is that American writers, catering for a broadly American audience, would sort of default to a Liberté, égalité, fraternité is good, whilst Monarchy and nobility is bad mindset. So the naming culture reflected that.
After all you lot had a rebellion to get rid of your own lawful King.

Maybe it has more to do with a Magnoball grudge. Like a Red Sox fan expressing hatred of NY Yankees in plenty of contexts well outside of sports entirely.
