"Clique" sounds a bit snobby and closed to me, whereas "group" is just a few people who share interests. Faraway Lad (Is Jo a Dumb Jock? thread) mentioned that different legionnaires would naturally group together ...but we haven't seen too much of that lately. What are some of the groups (or cliques) you would envision? It could be friendship based or action/mission based.
We have the science group - Brainy, Invisible Kid, Gear. No girls!
There is the erstwhile Espionage Squad - Invisible Kid, Cham, Vi, Apparition.
I liked the old power group of Mon-el/Valor and Ultra Boy; I'd add in Wildfire.
Saturn Girl, Dreamer and Sensor form both an action group and, potentially, a friendship group. They could get very clique-y as well, even if they didn't mean to.
Ferro and Karate Kid are a natural, based on their experience; maybe add Shikari and maybe Sensor.

I think it'd be interesting if the "Lost" team (or parts of it) became a clique of sorts just because of what they went through in the Qwai-verse.
I could also see Wildfire, Shikari and Timberwolf being a clique as the newer members (Dreamer doesn't count since she's had a long affiliation and Gear hasn't shown enough of a personality for me to imagine him even being social).

Danny - funny you mentioned about Dreamer being part of Scientist group...I would like to see her also BUT I actually would prefer to see XS to be involved as well since her grandfather was a lab scientist for the police department. XS can use her speed to read all science-related stuff and can be useful to either Brainiac 5 and Lyle. she has the potential of becoming one of the smartest member...only time will tell.

Has XS even displayed that level of mastery with the speed force to be able to comprehend super speed reading? I think it'd actually be interesting for the Legion to tackle a Speed Force story in some way.

I agree with Drake's suggestion that the Lost crew would feel pretty connected to each other, after all they'd been through. How 'bout the Blighted members feeling a connection, maybe a residual effect? Seems like Team 20 shoulda/woulda been fairly close. The more I think about it, the less it seems these connections have been shown as enduring.

I recall reading, a long time ago, one issue where Wilfire was sparring with Ultra-Boy, Mon-el and maybe one or two other high powered Legionairres.
It would make sense if the heavyweights hung out.

And another thing!... you never see them with friends outside the Legion. (Except for Dreamer.) Have they become a high-security group that only mingles with its own kind?

Well, Lyle has "C--"...
I think it'd be cool for either Jo or Brin's old gangbanger friends pop in on Legionworld (we've already seen some of Brin's clan anyway).

I think that's the writers trying to establish characterisation for a huge cast, without wanting to bring in extras who'd get lost in the woodwork.

but if you cut out a few of the "splash/spread pages" every issue, and did one or two more small panels, then that would up the storytelling quotient, wouldn't it.
Lets face it, Keith and Paul were master storytellers that juggled everything well. Not everyone has a handle on each detail.

You could also have that 9 panel grid again ... (which I actually liked a lot -- not sure it would work for Batista and DnA, but it worked well with Giffen)
