No SW6 version, powerless reboot version, er... I don't even remember if there was a threeboot version, but he wasn't on the team if there was!

Anyway, now he's been retrobooted back to being dead!

Poor guy... while other classic dead Legionnaires Ferro Lad and Invisible Kid have gotten new chances at adventure in subsequent versions, Condo still remains neglected!

Chemical King was also barely seen in the cartoon, nor was he in Superboy's Legion (except in the group shot at the end, I believe!)

Wasn't he also left out of Gary Frank's ACTION group shot that DID include Timber Wolf?

I think the last time Chem got any respect was during the Bierbaum's run when Mordru had risen the dead. His corpse caused quite a bit of damage as I recall.

The issue with Chem's death has a special place in my heart. There were a couple other comic readers in my Elementary school and I specifically remember us all talking about that issue. It may have been our first exposure to death!

Before that, I remember Chem as a character that Grell ocassionally threw in a background shot. I always liked him because he had dark hair and my favorite color as a kid was green.

I also loved his actions in S/LSH 211, bringing Jan to his senses, and remembered Superboy lifting him into the air as if to punch him.

THE UNIQUE PROPERTIES OF CONDO ARLIK from Secret Origins will still make me tear up.

yeah, he deserves WAY more respect.

Maybe the fact that he is the Legionnaire who was hardly ever featured makes up part of his fascination... [Wink]

Those few words point to a way this character could return to the story canvas with little to no backtracking/cloning/yanking from heaven, hell, or a Phlonion equivalent.

Hmm... it very well could be that he was never dead, but that his metabolism was just *extremely* slowed down...

He's one of the few Legionnaires perfectly suited to faking his own death, because of his ability to control his own body chemistry.

Not only could he shut down his vital systems, but he could also prevent any sort of decay or degeneration from occuring, keeping himself in bio-chemical stasis, possibly for decades.

Exactly-- and didn't his last words as portrayed in the story in SECRET ORIGINS contain the words from the title? Spoken to Brainy?

Was he sending a message?
