I buy far more TPBs than I do monthlies. I actually prefer the longer format over the cramped monthly issues. I would LOVE to see a book written at 100 pages and published quarterly. I think it would bring about more even story telling, better writing and offer room for better character development.

Does not compute!
I stopped collecting comics altogether in any kind of monthly format due to financial difficulties. I have also been fighting through a wave of disinterest in stories currently going through the main Marvel and DC universes proper.
That's not to sayt that there are not good comics coming out, just that I read about what's happening, and am not really interested.
I got a bit of money for Christmas and decided to give the Legion a try. I had liked the three issues I had read when it started, so decided to get the trades.

There have been a number of series I've followed only in trades, including some real favorites like Starman and Fables.
I really don't miss the big universe events, and even shy away from characters I like(d) that (1) get trampled by pointless stories and (2) are too tied into universe BS.
Even new-fave JSA, in #1 started off with some sort of pointless "world war three" reference I didn't get (and didn't care about), but after a page or two one didn't need to worry about that non-sequitor.
