From "the Histories of the NU-UP", Chapter vi, 'from Dark Spaces to New Hopes':

It is widely aknowledged that Lord Kord Das's famous vision at the Coluan Bi-Centinary Ceremony of the Many Illuminated in Thomamonth of 3498 is credited with being the start date of the Legion 35C, and probably the rise of the NU-UP and the newborn AAP as well. Although many will point to Dak Sacchev, the Darkstar's autobiography of 3504, 'Thirteen Wars and still no Victory Dance', where he claims that Das approached him several times before this date and asked Sacchev to help Das as he said he had a plan to reintroduce a Legend to the Galaxy and create a brighter future for the Human Species. Of course, given the subsequent histories between the two and the much reported split in ranks of the Legion in 3503 many are skeptical of the motivation for, and question the validity of this claim. Regardless of this what is certain is that after the ceremony History was indeed created and the NU-UP and the AAP would most probably not have the support of so many systems or be the established forces for civilisation that we now know.

And the catalyst for these tremendous changes was the simple announcement that Kord Das would lead the reborn Legion of Myth into the Dark Space and liberate a dozen worlds a year until they were all free from the ravages of the War of Enforcement and the Grand Invaders were thrown out of Human Space.

And he would start that very day.....

"father...."

Kord's voice was so faint that had an incling of foresight not moved Ambassador Eril Das to be in the process of zoning out of the Ceremony to focus onto his only child he may never have heard it. In hindsight Eril Das would realise that the small uncomfortable feeling in the pit of his stomach that had been with him for days now was his subconcious warning him about this moment, that his son was away to become a pivotal force in the very Fates of his home Galaxy. The enormitty of the moment made the Naltori Ambassador go momentarily weak and he saw his son copllapse onto his knees before him, his face still pointed at the Ceremony, looking for all to see as if he were assuming a position of benediction, praying to the Many Illuminated before him.

"the future is given freely"

Kord's eyes roll back as Eril's go wide.

"The future is as near as tomorrow"

Out of the corner of his eye Eril can see that an Eyespy is already hovering above his son's head. He knows with a surety that only the Scion of a Farsighted can know that nothing will be able to stop this moment from happening and that if there were some way to stop it he would fight it with his very heart and eyes.

If his son really is to be a True Seer.......

"what I see I give freely and bring into today..."

MEANWHILE

Talok Viii had escaped the Mutagreen Plague of 3367 as the Planetary Fathers had erected a strict quarantine on their system the year before to try to halt an erupting civil war. The Daxam White Triangles last weapon, ironically the very thing that stopped their own advancement into the non-alligned quadrants, had cut a swathe through the many planets in the sector before the Xeroxan Red Flea Cure could catch and eliminate it. It has been estimated that nearly 30 billion sentients died because of this single space born virus.

Unfotunately it was the very quarantine status that led the Black Shazam Gang to Talok Viii in 3369. The six Metabeings of this organisation had taken absolute control of the world within twelve hours. It wasn't until the UP's nascent Power Corp arrived some 8 solar months later that the few remaining Talokean had the oppressors yolk lifted, though the battle that gave them their freedom back also destroyed the Great Western Desert and 16 of the 21 City Scrapers.

The whereabouts of the Shadow Clans Planetary Champion had never been discovered and the Great Spirit of the Darkness had never again allowed any of the clan to weild its legendary Dark Field...

The Shadow Clan, with a history stretching back Aeons was broken and became itself a thing of tales, slipping into legendary status within a century...

"UNTIL NOW!!"

Glorion thought as he eyed the stallegtyte filled cave before him.

"until blessed now!!" His mind nearly overcome as the realisation of what it was he was staring at began to sink in.

"Holy Green Eggs!"

His gorrila's agility allowed him to travel the 90 metres of rough cave between the small opening he had discovered and the gem he had spotted in no time.

"it's as big as Holy Mu's Thumb!"

Holding his lighting talisman above his head and muttering a protective warding against the oppressive darkness around him he moved carefully over the remaining metre to the huge purple gem and tried to get a better look at the shadowspun figure within.

Glorion Grundy, a decendant of Gorilla City, one of the Lore Keepers of Heliotrope City on Tharn almost drops the light as the figure within the gem suddenly appears to move.......

That's a very detailed vision of the future's future with enough links to current Legion history to follow it.

Good to think that R.J.'s dream of a legion of super-beings would continue - or be revived in response to a galaxy in disarray. I hope you continue with this series Harbinger.

I've roughly written out the next 15 or so parts.

It'll take me a day or two to tidy up the next few parts so hang on they are definitely coming.

And thank you for your kind words Cramer, this is something that has been bubbling inside me for about two years now so when I saw this forum I knew it was the perfect place to get it out there.

Any and all views will be appreciated folks so don't be shy, please tell me what you feel works and what doesn't.

Kord Das looked through the Orb's violet skin down onto the crowds below. He had of course foreseen all of this: the crowds, the media interest, the wannabes lining up outside the Naltori Embassy asking, begging and in some very brave cases demanding an audience with the one that the Twelve Worlds Web was calling the Harbinger.

Kord looked across at his three companions as the orb slowly dropped out of the evening sky. He had known that the scene he created at the Coluan Ceremony would get prime coverage from the Eyespies, that his announcement would galvanise a few and with those few he would re-build the greatest legend in this Galaxy.

Within a month the Galaxy will know that the Legion was reborn three days ago at the Coluan Ceremony of the Many Illuminated. Midwifed by him, the Naltori Seer that history will call Lord Kord Das, the Harbinger of the New Light.

He had foreseen it.

Of course he wouldn't tell his companions of this, of the war that they would soon be thrown into, of the massacre of the last seedspore of the Kenroshi, that one of them would be dead within a week.

No, he thought, I'll keep the Known Future where it belongs, in my grasp.

Turning to his travelling companions he smiled one of his famous smiles. He noticed that the Cargggite was the only one who doesn't return the smile, though he understands that Keed Luorssen, the Triple Wolf resents being here. Das can almost hear his thoughts, how disappointed the feral fighter was at his removal from active duty from the Carggg People's Planetary Protectorate and given to this... upstart ... who has delusions of grandeur. Das knows that in the months to come T-Wolf will be invaluable in the Dark Space Campaign so pays no heed to his companions mood. Better ignored and forgotten than queried and awoken as his Milk Mother would say.

Sister Paragon, the Amazonian power house from the Earth Defence League asks "How many of these have a hope Kord?"

"We have a few yet to meet before we take our fight out to the Dark Spaces, we'll have three more before the end of the day"

"The Guardians on Oa have asked if you need any more Lanterns in your campaign" Penga-La's reedy voice sounds almost bored as he relays his message from his masters to Das.

Smiling again Das replies "I am certain that you will fulfil your destiny with the greatest of honour Penga-La, thank your masters but I must decline their offer for now"

Das catches the glint of understanding in Sister Paragon's eyes, she has understood the answer. Those two small words at the end of his sentence speaks volumes of what the future may bring.

Dressed in the Coluan battle armour Das motions for the Orb to lower towards the expectant crowds below. The mighty roar of cheers that batters his ears is another sign he thinks, that this is the correct path.

The swarm of public and private Eyespys that have hovered dormantly around the orb suddenly spin off as if chased away by the crowds roaring.

30 feet from the ground and Das stops their descent. The gossamer epidermis of the Flight Orb peels back like the skin of a fruit and like the TechnoMessiah that the AllMedia Group has painted him he steps out onto the air, his suit's gravitronic thread making his movements look smooth and natural.

For the first time in hours the buzz that had been generated by this ever growing crowd died away to silence.

The silence was more powerful than any noise.

Excerpt from "Thirteen Wars and Still No Victory Dance" the official biography of the Last Great Martian Hero, Dak Sacchev the Blackstar.

Chapter 14.

The Eleventh War, The Dreamer and the Princess.

Before I go onto the Massacre of Dreahhgart, this is the place to finally speak out on the matter of Kord Das's Great Unifying Vision of 3498. And before I tell my side I must impress upon you, the reader, that without what Harbinger put in motion it is doubtful that there would be a NU-UP, certainly the Tribesmen of Talok Viii would be no more, the H'tridki Hive World would certainly have perished and the twenty six other worlds that the Legion helped to liberate from the Grand Invaders while I was a member (I've lost count of how many they have saved since) would all still at best be living in servitude to those foul bastards. We, every right minded sentient in the galaxy, have much to be grateful for Kord das's nerve.

That said, the actual "Great Unifying Vision" was a sham. The whole event was staged to get maximum publicity for his fledgling group of Metas and rogues. He had approached me on several occassions prior to that over acted peice of thespian art that the AllMedia Group claim is the most important event in a thousand years. He was always a smooth talker and to this day I can't think how he managed to talk me out of my retirement to become one of his generals. There is no doubt that he manipulated the great unwashed opinion of my presence with a masters skills.

"Blackstar back to kick Nass!" was my favourite headline, I even saw frontiers folks wearing it on their synthskins like a designer label. Maybe it was!

There was definitely a big showmans streak in Das, he loved to perform and enjoyed bringing others into his sphere of control. This is evident by the way he asked me to approach joining his group. Rather than openly asking he wanted me to fly from the excited crowds and challenge all present to my place in the group.

This was one of the funnier moments of those first days, watching the crowd disperse leaving only the brave and the suicidal.

Two had the nerve to accept my challenge. They were certainly deserving of the title "brave" as everyone knew of my reputation, the footage of my ripping the Daxam White Triangle Advance Guard apart in the Rage Zone Battle of 3369 is to this day a most popular choice for military programmers.

Of course Commander Cruiser needed to be taught a lesson before Das would, shockingly for that time, allow the Daxamite into the group.

Of course Mega of the Imskian Leviathons also showed her incredible courage that day by standing her ground to my challenge.

Of course Das had foreseen them joining the group and had forewarned me to their accepting the challenge.

Of course I kicked their Nass!

I'm really enjoying this 'Binger, love Kor Das already.... the schemeing little minx!

You obviously have some big plans, there's a wonderful sense of anticipation building up within the story so far.

The only only fault I can see is sometimes you cut from past to present tense, and this throws out the rhythm a bit. It's a V minor gripe though.

FIVE big stars m'dear, now where's the rest of it?

There is definitely more coming, we haven't met everyone yet and they've yet to head off to the Dark Spaces - be afraid, be very afraid!!!

Thank you for your kind words Sonnie, I do appreciate the feedback and can understand what you say about the past/present tense being switched. I hadn't noticed that!

Anyone else read it?

Except from "Thirteen Wars and Still no Victory Dance" the official biography of the Last Great Martian Hero, Dak Sacchev The Blackstar

Chapter 14.

The Eleventh war, the Dreamer and the Princess

The first time that I saw the timespun Tamaran goddess I knew that I had met my match.

We were aboard the Coluan Shield 'Stroid Dox 4 Sheild AI Major at what was to become a legendary conference. The Green Lantern and Commander Cruiser were our in the Oort Cloud chasing stories of spies that we all knew were false, but the damned media loved it! Mega and T-Wolf had just sworn their Pledge of Alligance to Das in front of the assembled dignitories, Sister Paragon was standing at Das's side like a hunting dog awaiting orders. still clad in her traditional armour with spear and shield in her hands. As much as I have grown to despise that woman at that moment I considered her to be the best of the group. The Kenroshi Avatar hung gracefully in the air above Das, her tendrils and electric wings undulating to her own private rhythm.

There was a small unscheduled noise from below the podium we were on and instinctively I turned to see what was happening. The Princess, as the leader of an entire race, had been invited to this event. Of course we had all heard of her when she arrived in our era two years before. She had been feted as the savior of her race who were about to become extinct from the Creeping Dram Disease. Her easy manner and claim to be the child of Lambien, Son of the Living Goddess X'hal had made her a cause celeb for about two months. She had long since slipped below the sensor.

She was approaching the podium on foot with the determined air that I grew to love in the weeks and months to come. Ignoring her warrior Thanes as they crowded around her - they were scared to let her do what her carriage told any who watched she had made her mind up to do - she walked determinely towards us. She always had that way of projecting her awesome confidence and assuredness without looking arrogant.

It is said that the light she gives off heals the Tamaran and if shehadn't arrived in the 35th Century when she did the acient Wandering Stars would be lost to us by now. These same Wandering Stars, the descendants of the Last Omegans, were not happy with their living goddess at that moment

I always got on with the Tamaran, their Warrior Thane Celestan'nn helped in the Great Wall on Jack World (see chapter 4 "those first Bloody wars were hell" for more details). Their history is without doubt one of the saddest in this arm of the galaxy. That all said I knew that I wanted her to leave her people behind, join me in the great Eternal of Space, leave this imminent war behind....

Kord Das had said the day we left the Dock of Colu that he would welcome help before we left for Talok Viii, the nearest of the Worlds Lost to Darkness. The frenzy generated by the Twelve Worlds Web and on the damned AllWorld Media made the crowds of the day before seem like a taster before the main course. The Bgtzl Alliance sent two diplomats (with obvious military bearing!), Winath sent a representative of their Thunderbolt Clan, the Braalian Resistance made attempts to reach Das, the Gil'Dishpan offered
warp stones, the Mighty Kwai offered Threshholds,
the Bilangley Alliance even, if you can believe such a thing, offered 35% discount on any and all Ships for the armies that would be expected to join this crusade. From virtually any world with political ambition came offers of aid, Meta being help, technology, you name it Kord Das refused it all! His reply? Well it's become part of the legend:

"I don't see that"

We all asked "What do you see then?"

When I saw the Princess that first time I was smitten and knew that Das MUST see her joining us.... joining with me!

I was certain I could persuade him if he didn't.

I allowed the gravity of the 'Stroid to draw me down towards her. She stopped before me, gazing up with those perfect green eyes and said in a voice that carried:

"Kord Das wishes aid in his Campaign against the Grand Invaders. I am here as the granddaughter of most revered X'hal and Mother of the peoples of the Wandering Star to pledge our aid in this"

Private Journal Keed Luorssen, Triple Wolf (Prime)Thomamonth 37, 3498

Even Red had very little positive to say about this freckin' "secondment for the Collective good of Carggg".

Freckin' Bastard Prime Minister Durie and her bledging freckin' goat of a Deputy were just waiting to do this.

Is this the first time Red has agreed with Blue?

When the announcement came Blue and I were watching the holo, we'd just seen the little Naltor pretty boy do that fainting thing then go all mystical and airy blatchin' fairy and spout that guffet about the Legion of Myth, about the return of the Legend, yeah right, get back to your parasitical world Boy!

And Red strolls in with that stupid Crari bird eating a Ceter grin on his face and says "You wanna see the talent at that club, even Blue could get laid there, it's my new local!!"

He knew as sure as an eggs an egg that we weren't gonna rise to his bait this time. Even his self absorbed hedonistic freckin' head could get around the dark atmosphere in our quarters.

Prime Freckin' Bastarding Minister Bledgin' Durie and her Caritchin' plan to cleanse the pools. Yeah we know, hide the differences, don't argue amongst ourselves in public.... yeah right!

Within a bletching micro sec he'd signed us up for the freckin' suicide mission to the Dark Spaces, like we have a choice! Why not send Triple Heavy, she has breath that could knock out an entire battalion of Daxamites.

Blue went for a ride on his latest Sky Bike. Red called up some "party friends" to arrange a leaving orgy. And as the Prime personality I was left with four hours notice to get our gear together, say the official goodbyes to the CPPP, visit the Family Crypt to burn our incense and pray for their aid. Like they bletchin' Freckin' watch us....

Blue came back with an hour to go and a list of things he needed to do, always the practical one he had finished his duties within twenty minutes.

We picked Red out of Madame Earies Party Pool on the way to the Transzone Docking Plane. He wasn't able to talk for three hours he'd consumed so much Koja and X23 tabs.

Sometimes Red isn't so stupid.

Private Journal Keed Luorssen, Triple Wolf (prime) Thomamonth 42, 3498

Today I watched a hero die.

It isn't right, somehow I feel... cheated... for the dead man, we haven't even reached the Dark Spaces and already the bloody group is in bits. It's not as if he wasn't even one of the most powerful creatures for light years around, he just got cocky. The Freckin' blatchin' Khund Rama Drone that burned him didn't last three seconds after that as Red and Blue and I tore it apart. It was a Freckin' rogue AI and the Sell Me Down The River Virus or so Das said.

I was less than a Yani pitch from him, he just flew up to the Stalker Craft, announcing that as a member of the Green Lantern Corps he had the right to board any space vehicle on these Trade Lanes.

I'd always been told that the Lanterns could do virtually anything they wanted with those freckin' power rings of theirs. Guess the ring couldn't warn them not to piss on Khund Rama AIs 'lectro spheres.

The energy burst would have blinded Blue and I had our Trans suit survival threads not have included a quick time optical dampner. The Bletchin' Lantern

.... no.....

it's Penga-La, let's at least acknowledge his name, Penga-La of the Noble Green Lantern Corps was so much vapour in so little of a second.

Blue, ever the aware, was the first to react, leaping at the drive 'port and ripping at the outer casing shielding, knowing that whoever had just done this would NOT get away! Red smashed into the Bubble Sensor array, they wouldn't see much more.

And I? The Prime personality? Triple Wolf White? I was so shocked that it took me that split second longer to react, I instantly activated the telepathway communicators to all priority channels, broadcasting to the group less than an AU from us that we needed their aid as I leapt at the weapon cluster to smash them before they could recharge.

In the seconds it took for the Princess to reach us Red, Blue and I had disabled the craft enough that it couldn't raise a pulse to escape.

And the blatchin' Eyespys caught the lot and realtimed it back to the trillion or so of voyeurs following this freckin' reincarnation of a failed dream as we lead this suicidal wave against the Grand Invaders.

Red said this evening that he reckons that after we disabled the ship his ratings must have went up.

As usual Blue isn't talking to him.
