Yay [Smile] !

My pic of Daddy, Mommy and baby Venturian Walking Money!

Concepts like VWM remind me of the mind-blowing thinking of the Silver Age.

Nice gallery, Teeds!

Well, as to "mind-blowing," I'm not so sure about the depth of "mind" at times behind some of these wackier images, but as to the rest ... [Wink]

Actually, no, I'm not against such whimsy. It did become a substitute for richly textured backgrounds and societal details, which we didn't get in Legion stories until Cockrum and Giffen. It's too easy to fall back on gimmickry. Super-heroics themselves often fall prey to that, though.

I love the Cockrum and Giffen eras too (Levitz/Giffen is my fave of course, and Cockrum brought in Wildfire), but the share amount of ideas emanating in every panel during the Silver Age (for Legion and others) is sometimes staggering.

Whether gimmickry or mind-blowing thinking, it's still cool to think that someone suddenly 'came up' with the idea for VWM one night at the drawing board.

It's an interesting look at the transition from Adventure to Cockrum though, Grey.

And Teeds, you still have the honor of being the only person ever (and probably will always be) that I created artwork for!

Was Venturan Walking Money seen before the Levitz-Giffen era? I'm fairly certain it wasn't in the Adventure Era Legion stories, but I know Ventura was much more prominent in Superman lore proper than the Legion, so maybe it was used there.

I've actually always found the Hamilton-Forte era to be by far the most fascinating in terms of raw creativity. While certain ideas, like sticking a laboratory on stilts to escape the Earth atmosphere, seem really dated, I think such ideas as Sun City, a city in perpetual sunlight due to circling the globe on a railway track, are incredibly rich in potential.

The only two instances of VTM that I am aware of. The first, from the first issue of the Baxter series.

 -

The second, from issue 10 of the TMK series.

Barakian Living Money was shown in Adventure #309. It looked exactly like VWM.

It's Barakian Walking Money that I was thinking of then. I knew I remembered that panel in particulur, Scott.

They're pretty much the same thing to me anyway [Big Grin] !
