This is, I think, one of the finest series coming out of Image Comics right now. Is anyone else reading this?

For those who do not know, Invincible is a coming of age tale. With super-powers. The title character is the son of world famous super-hero Omni-Man, guardian of democracy (think Superman with a mustache and you're halfway there.), and this goes about telling his early days in the super-hero biz.

It's writen by Robert Kirkman and is a certainly a strong work. He has mixed equal parts humour, action, suspence, teen angst and fun into this work. I recomend this to everyone who enjoy's super-hero comics.

But enough of my gushing. What does everyone else think of this title?

I dropped it after 3 issues. I was not terribly impressed.

I've heard a lot of good things about the series. Is it set in the Image universe? Do they have a trade yet?

BTW, shameless plug - Andy Khun (the Invincible artist) illustrated my friend's book:

I picked up the book mainly for the art (is he really as young as they keep saying? I can't believe it), but I also dropped the book after a few issues because the stories seemed pretty light -- it didn't seem like much happened each issue. There were some nice bits about Invincible's family dynamic, but it wasn't enough for me to keep buying the book.

The first four issues were traded, and the trade of the next four is comming soon. If you want a jump on point I would recomend issue #9, which is out this month I believe.

I've been enjoying this series all along. It's been a fun read. The artwork is great, lots of humor and an interesting premise. Definitely one I would recommend.

I've been (ashamed to admit it) reading it in Trades. And I agree, it's a good read! It think the revelation of OmniMans' acts kinda ruined what seemed to be a well-done coming of age story, but I'll at least be buying the next trade (#4) to see how it is. Should be out soon, if it isn't already.

Wow.

I missed the boat on this book. The zero issue was incredible! 'Bout the only thing I regret was having the OmniMan bit spoiled... that must've been an "Oh, $#!t!" moment if you were reading it as it happened. But I'm very taken with this title right now... I went out and snapped up 1-8 and 22 this weekend, and my guy at Wonderland promised to hook me up with the rest of the back-issues.

*sigh*... looks like another addition to my preorders... [Frown] / [Smile]

re-bump

Anyone who gave up before issue 6 or so might consider taking another look. There a guide to the Invincible universe out now, too.

I had to finally jump on board, it is Kirkman after all. Got the first Ultimate hardback today. Probably will start reading it this weekend. If it is anything near as good as TWD then I'll buy the other two.

This is a really fun book. I've only read the first big hardback. I'll probably look to get the second volume by the end of the year when I need something to fill some time.

It reminds me of the Marvel Universe back when there was just the right balance of melodramatic soap opera and light superhero action.

Also any one that can enjoy a blasphemous take on organized religion should check out Kirkman's Battle Pope. I read those and could not believe how funny it was. Anyone who can't enjoy a little blasphemy must avoid Battle Pope because the Pope would probably ban it if he knew about it.
