Why's Brainy got pointed ears?

I'm really disappointed they've given him an interior. I loved "Feather," and his style really fit that world he created. But it's an extremely poor fit for the "Legion" book. He says he has to force his style to look more like the cartoon, but it doesn't look as if he made much effort. And he even admits at the end that he doesn't like the designs.

And this isn't his fault, but I'm concerned that he had so little reference help from Kids' WB. He had to illegally download two episodes of the cartoon. He should have been given a bible. If two episodes had aired by the time he got the assignment, they obviously had one.

Click Here For A SpoilerAnd I don't like the fact he did no research at all into how Colu should look. Obviously, he should have latitude for his imagination, but this isn't the fourth issue of a brand-new book. It's a team with a 50-year history.

Oh, well, I survived months of Olivier Copiel. I can last one issue from him.

At the very least he should have been given a copy of the press kid which contained a DVD with the first two episodes.

I really like his art. And I'm not very familiar with any of his previous work but this looks very much like the cartoon to me.

I do agree that it was very poor management not to provide this guy with any design or style information though. That's crazy. And it saddens me to hear that he's not much of a Legion fan - if at all. But I guess not *every* comic creator can be a secret Legion fan.

Even though the faces are a bit off, I think this style works fine. The coloring is REALLY cool. The architecture is off, too... but I'd have to see the rest of the issue to judge.

Thanks for the nod, YK. [Wink]

I rather like the detailed backgrounds. Too bad he won't be dong much more of that.

I like it. It's so much like the 'toon but still it has a lot of depth to it. I'll bet it's pretty hard to do a book based on such a small body of current work.

More about Steve Uy ...

and some nice artwork too... [Big Grin]

The artwork is purty but Uy never even mentions who wrote the issue (I don't think it's one written by Torres). Whoever it is, he or she evidently knows little about AniBrainy's relationship -- or lack thereof -- with his fellow Coluans.

I've heard four different interior artists mentioned so far -- Clugston, Greene/Massingill, Alex Serra, and now Uy. Is that normal for a Johnny DC book?

Also, does anybody know who drew this page?

I found it on one of Torres' blogs at http://www.jtorresonline.blogspot.com/

Scroll to the middle of the page. The only thing he says is it's not by Clugston. It doesn't look like Uy's work, either.

Nice! Thanks for the extra page Trom.

Looks like it may be time for some art-site surfing!

Trom, it looks like J Torres work.

I like the art from the preview pages. It looks a lot better than other adaptations with flat coloring and mediocre art that's supposed to resemble the animated series.

Personally, I don't really like how some of the characters are drawn in the preview art, but the coloring and the backgrounds are awesome.
