According to tvshowsondvd.com, the first DVD will be a four-episode single on Aug. 28. It sounds like the first episode will be on there, but the other three are anyone's guess at this point.

The other cool part of the announcement mentions that the release is timed to a McDonald's Happy Meal promotion and action figures. Woo hoo!

I'll let you know if I hear more from Warner Bros. I haven't received this release yet, but they're usually pretty good at sending me stuff.

At most McDonald's they let you buy just the toys, not, um, that I have any experience with that.

Damn! I want a complete season DVD!

Posted by stephbarton on :

LOL! My reaction to that post was "McDonald's Toys, SWEET!" I'll probably wait for a box set of the season rather than get individual DVDs, but we'll see. Still, McDonalds, looks like I'll be getting Happy Meals (or at least the toys)

You know you've arrived in pop culture when you make it to the Happy Meal stage. [Wink]

Nice....I hope they put the episodes Champions on...that's my favourite. I'd have a heart attack if they put on Sundown.

Kind of torn--a complete season box set would probably only cost about five dollars more--but if the DVD does not sell well WBHV will never issue any other releases and "Legion" will suffer the same fate as "Static Shock."

Superman told them that appearing on the box was
a mission much too dangerous for the girls.

Dunno what to do either-- I want ONE FULL SET of ALL episodes...

Posted by Pov on :

I'll get this to show support for the series... and when they finally release the first full season DVD, I'll buy -that- for keeps, and give this one to my nephew Alex! [Yes]

Posted by MLLASH on :

Hmmm... I could always sell it back to Spin Street for credit when the complete Season 1 is released... sounds like a solid plan.

Great idea! I think I'll do that too, but my nephew has a different name.

doesn't the fact that DVD box cover says "volume 1" indicate to anyone that perhaps they will simply release all the episodes in three or four volumes in lieu of a single release of the whole season?

In which case, waiting for the whole season release may be futile and/or moot.

If the four episodes are the first four, this might be the case. I'm still worried though that if volume 1 doesn't sell well, they may not release the others...

Posted by Suddenly Seymour on :

I got the official press release with episode list and DVD extra:

Legion of Super Heroes: Volume 1 will be available on DVD for $14.97 with approx. 88 minutes of four 22-minute episodes:

* "Man of Tomorrow" – In their mission to travel back in time to retrieve Superman, the legion goes a little too far and discover a young Clark Kent before his super powers are realized.

* "Timber Wolf" - Dark secrets are discovered when a scientist calls on the legion for their help in capturing a dangerous creature.

* "Legacy" - Superman’s new friend, Alexis, wants to be Superman’s only friend.

* "Phantoms" – A teenager with the same powers as Superman is unleashed from a portal to a phantom dimension, where the Legionnaires become trapped.

Also includes the following special features (umm, I only count one):

We Are Legion -- The Legionnaires from the pages of DC Comics are back, this time in animated form. Looking at the rich history of storylines, characters, and classic team driven tales of action and adventure, the Legion of Super Heroes: Volume 1 is updated for today¹s audience. Featuring an interview with Paul Levitz, President & Publisher of DC Comics, and former writer on the Legion of Super Heroes comic book. {Estimated runtime 8-10 minutes}.

Thanks, SS!...

Indeed these are the first 4...

The single "special feature" is still
pretty cool...I mean has there EVER
been a video interview with ANY Legion
creator? Not that *I* know of (though
unfortunately omniscience continues to
elude me by increasingly wide margins...)

Assuming, however, such a special feature
is not in every volume, they can get 5 eps.
on at least one, so hopefully then that is 3
volumes for the season...at $15 a pop, that's
$45...

While the whole season on one DVD would
typically cost only $30...and you wonder
why they're splitting it! Seriously, while
inconvenient for us, this is probably a
good business decision...they'll have affordable
DVDs out there for the "curious" not wanting to
invest in the whole season, (or willing to
gamble on a Christmas gift), which might also
initiate some new viewership, while the huge
fans will probably buy all three volumes ANYWAY,
and will end up paying 50% more.

Posted by Lightning Lad on :

This is a typical Warner Bros. animation move. They will release these single DVDs with three or four episode each until they've done the full season. Then, once all those multiple discs are out they'll release a set with everything plus extras.

Posted by Evolution Has Failed on :

Thanks, LL ... but it will be SO hard not to buy them as they come out...especially if they have not yet announced the DEFINITe release of the full season yet!

which means they'll REALLY be raking us (well, me)for dough... it is indeed a business, no doubt...

Posted by Suddenly Seymour on :

I was really hoping that since they only did season sets for "The Batman" and "Loonatics Unleashed," they'd start with a season set for "Legion." They're probably counting on us (in dollar signs) die-hard adult fans to pick up both. The crossover adult appeal probably isn't as big with those other two.

Posted by Suddenly Seymour on :

Just a reminder -- the DVD comes out Aug. 28. I got my review copy for work and watched it today. For a cheapie one-off instead of a season set, they did a nice job.

The featurette, "We Are Legion: From Comic Book Origins to Animated Series Stars," rehashes a lot of stuff that's already been written, but it's interesting to put faces to names on the writing and design staff (no voice actors). Paul Levitz even has a few words to say.

They also show a couple concept images I hadn't seen. They don't look radically different from what they wound up with (James Tucker says he's got hundreds of ages of concept art), but LL was gonna have greyish white hair.

Who knows if the featurette will be repeated in the eventual season set, so I don't know to tell you AR collectors whether to buy now or wait.

But it's a nice little DVD for what it is. The images look great. They're full screen. It's been so long since I've watched an episode, I don't remember if it was broadcast full or wide screen, but the back of the case claims this is original broadcast ratio.

Who wants to bet the second volume will feature just a bunch of male villains. 'Cause everybody knows, boys won't want the DVD if there's a girl on the cover. [Roll Eyes]

You can still get it from Amazon for $11.19.

Posted by MLLASH on :

It was at TARGET for $9.99. Took all my willpower to resist, but I want a FULL season set!

Posted by Nightcrawler on :

I have no willpower. Besides I'll buy anything Legion-related and want them to continue to make the animated series and every little bit helps.

I like the commentary. But it was nothing new.

Just found out from DCBS that Diamond has yet to fulfill any orders for the DVD. What a crock! So I have to wait until Diamond gets of their collected nass or buy another copy and wind up with two. Which will suck when the full set comes out. [Mad]

got it at Target yesterday. First time I've seen the episodes on an actual tv. it was fun backing up to look for hidden characters in the crowds.

Posted by Pov on :

Sure, LB, rub it in... frikkin Diamond... [Mad]

Posted by Lightning Lad on :

Guess I could always buy a copy at Target and give my Diamond one to a friend, if it ever gets shipped.

Posted by Nightcrawler on :

Just wait, LL. It's not worth it, if you've already got a copy coming.

The cover art for the back cover has been released and, along with it, what episodes are included.

As TV Shows on DVD.com notes, there are no extras this time around.

Well, I have to ask why they don't put it out as a Season 1 collection??? Just was able to get the first Teen Titans season cheaply on German ebay, hope a similar Legion article might be available soon... even would spend more than 5 Euro on it [Smile]

That was JL season 5/JLU season 2, episode 10. It's out on DVD as Justice League Unlimited - Season 2

Was running my DVD and while on the main menu happened to be going through the selections and when I pushed the button to move up, it highlighted the Superman emblem on the screen. For the heck of it, I hit enter to see what would happen. The DVD brought up a page with the Interlac alphabet, lower and upper case. That's a nice bonus feature. Didn't see it listed on the box though. Anyone else notice this feature?

Posted by Suddenly Seymour on :

I hadn't discovered that. Great Easter Egg!

Posted by Pov on :

YAY! DCBS is FInally shipping the DVD!

I was all ready to have it cancelled from my orders, and have one of my sisters get it for my X-Mas present... [Good]

Posted by Lightning Lad on :

I noticed it on my shipment list too Bri. Was going to post about it but forgot it when I could get the board to respond.

Wonder if it will be worth bothering ordering #2 from them.

Posted by Pov on :

[shrug] It was an awful long wait, and I'm not sure the discount was any better than could be found in WalMart...

Posted by Lightning Lad on :

I know Target wound up having it much cheaper. It'll have to be a minimum of 50% to make it worth it this time. Oh well. Can't fault DCBS. This was Diamond's f-up.

curious if it's really just bare-bones...I thought
perhaps it might contain an ad for vol. 3 or something...

Not seeing volume 2 in the stores anywhere around here. Looks like I'm going to have to see if I can order it from somewhere. I checked Target this time, because I'd seen volume 1 there after I'd bought it elsewhere. They didn't have volume 2 and they'd discontinued volume 1. Walmart only had it online, not in the store. Going to check Circuit City or Barnes and Noble. Hopefully one of them can take orders over the phone.

Anyone having better luck finding the disk? Not thrilled it isn't showing up in the stores for people to purchase, especially since we want a volume 3.

Posted by Teronna on :

I ordered mine from Amazon, I think they have it for about 4 bucks off the normal price.

Posted by Evolution Has Failed on :

The store at which I finally found mine was "Best Buy", they had about 4-5 copies.

Posted by Askanipsion on :

Does either Vol #1 or #2 have the dream based episode where Dreamer/Dream Girl appears?

Posted by Evolution Has Failed on :

I think that one is scheduled for this season (the 2nd) but hasn't yet aired...vols#1-2 cover only the first 8 eps of season 1.

Posted by MLLASH on :

The news of the cancellation is heartbreaking, but I am still holding out hope for a complete Season 1 (and 2 of course) DVD.... someone please keep me posted!

i went on to itunes to look for the cartoon you can't buy them from there..more prof wb doesn't know what there doing. Avatar and a lot of other kids programing was on itunes the day they come out

Posted by Lightning Lad on :

I've done that too kf2f. Especially after finding all the old, great WB Looney Toons cartoons. But none of the current crop is there. I somehow doubt it will ever be added which is a shame.

Posted by Teronna on :

Apparently there's a way you can request a TV show, song, movie, etc. to be added to iTunes, and I requested that the Legion toon be added months ago, but it hasn't happened yet.

Posted by Korbal on :

Do you suppose WHV is considering a LSH Complete Series set with all 26 episodes?

Posted by Eileen on :

That would be nice, but . . . I doubt it. I'd be happy with just season sets.

That being said, I'm STILL waiting for them to release any of Freakazoid! What's the holdup, people? *taps foot*

Posted by Nightcrawler on :

The Third volume was announced at Comics2film back on May 22nd! It's due out on September 9th.

 -

I'm a little disturbed by the appearance of Superman X on the cover since we don't have a full set of Season One videos yet (not to mention that the second half of Season One was the best of the entire series, IMHO).

Posted by Eileen on :

Actually, I believe this completes Season 1. I'm hoping that the fact that they snuck Kell-El onto the cover means that the Season 2 DVDs will be out soon.

Posted by MLLASH on :

Now the announcement of a complete season 1 DVD set must follow soon I hope!

Thank God!!!! I was beginning to think it would never come out!!!

I agree that seeing Superman X on the cover is a good sign... in fact, why would they do that unless it is to promote up coming season 2 DVDs? (actually, now that I think of it,I can answer my own question... I guess it could be to get people to buy this volume who only ever saw season 2.)

Still, I agree that it's a sign that they'll be releasing season 2.

Posted by lm8 on :

I preordered my volume 3 disk from J&R to make sure I'd get a copy. Got here last week. Not a lot of frills, but at least we have all the episodes for season 1 available on DVD now. It would have been fun if they'd thrown in an extra like the Interlac alphabet in volume 1. Any word on if there will be any season 2 disks?

Posted by LardLad on :

Man! Those ****ers STILL haven't released or announced complete season/series sets, have they? [Mad]

Posted by Korbal on :

Agreed. After 3 Legion "Soccer Mom" releases WHV really needs to issue a Legion Complete First Season edition, or even better, a Legion Complete Series boxset with all 26 episodes in one neat package...

Posted by Korbal on :

Well--WHV has announced three "Soccer Mom" releases for the first season of Batman: Brave and the Bold and a Complete Series Plastic Man Boxset. Still no further word on Legion...

Posted by legionboy on :

Aaargh! Why can't they put both seasons out in one set?

Posted by Igee The Mighty on :

because they're trying to milk the market by releasing it in "fragments". once the numbers indicate that the soccer moms have wisened up then we'll likely get a complete-in-1 set...before the inevitable why-not-both-seasons in 1 release. i'd liken it to releasing it in TPB form before the inevitable Absolute version. b ut then again, this is the Legion so us Legion fans would never be treated that well... (sorry, am in a Legion-funk mood)
