i've got r.e.b.e.l.s. fever!!!

i heard that in issue 1 of omega men (2006), they mention that vril dox II killed his kid (lyrl, I'm assuming).

1) is this actually mentioned? (a scanned page would be AWESOME, i'd love you forever)

2) is this... true? within the context of the books? how is that possible, querl needs to exist! ahh ;_; he was getting along so cutely with his baby last time we saw them!

do we have any indication that the bedard vril dox is the same vril dox as from the 1990s runs?

Well, it's not in issue 1 - I don't have the other issues. Maybe someone said it to Dox as an insult in a later issue? Last I heard, the brat was "stabilized" - not killed.

where was the "stabilization" mentioned? ;__;! stabilized doesn't mean dead, right?!! it means... what does that mean...

Well, look at it this way. There's a one-thousand year gap between Brainiac 2 and Brainiac 5. Between a thousand years, Brainiac 3 and 4 happened. Let's take an estimate and say...

One man is named John II. Forty years later he has a son he names John III. Forty years after that, he has a son named John IV. Forty years after that, John V.

I don't think we have anything to worry about Querl not existing.

OH GOD I FOUND IT ;______;

it was in issue #3 of the Omega Men (2006) thing.

oh god. nooo!!! this is a writing gaff, right?!! RIGHT?!! ;_; he was totally taking care of his tiny baby ;______;!!!!

;_________________; if you all think it's a mistake, i'll believe you ;____;

also... uh.. that omega men series is a pretty good prelude to the rebels thing, i think. you get to see silica a lot more. she's...so cute.

This panel is from R.E.B.E.L.S. #17 - after Stealth and Lyrl were turned into goo, then restored by Vril... I figured that Vril had done something in the restoration to modify the kid's personality, if not his intelligence level. It's not clear if Lyrl is acting like or really is a "normal" (or not fully Coluan) baby. The "Ha!" on the second page is pretty suspicious.

There was another page, maybe from Showcase (?) showing Vril and Stealth in their plant-laden home, Vril going off on some adventure and leaving Lyrl with Stealth. Lyrl was still at the drooling goo-goo stage, in his floating cradle, at that point.

So the murder is news to me... could Vril have considered downgrading his son's mental abilities equivalent to murder? Also, there's no reason that Vril couldn't have had other children beyond these stories' timelines, one of whom could have been Querl's ancestor.

look the baby was evil, he tryed to help the baby but if the baby stayed that way, what was he going to do let the baby be like his dad???

he loved the baby enough to stop him from becoming that

I'd have to SEE the story where Vril gives up on his son and kills him, to believe him capable of such a thing.

I don't know how the .LEGION timeline is going, but Lyrl couldn't be that old, could he?
It seems to me that Vril could have come up with other options besides murdering a child.

'Bawl forever' is right!

Course that might be a white lie to increase Dox's reputation, and Stealth might be secretly raising their son in an undisclosed location (heck, Lyrl could be held indefinitely in a moderately-sized beaker IIRC)... Still, Brainy did note that his grandfather was named Pran...

but didn't stealth hate the kid?? i remember her not wanting any thing to do with him, and apparently in the showcase 12 96(the god damn issue i cant find) Vril had to fight with her to get her to watch the kid for a while... so her raising him i can't see that

in my head i see Vril killing Lyrl two ways

A) the nice way, lyrl was sick and vril 'killed' him by pulling the plug or something, and lies about to make him seam heartless

b) lyrl was going something evil, (gloating over a bomb, holding some kid/mom/pregnant lady hostage) and saying things like 'the only way to stop me is to kill me, and you wont kill me father you love me.' vril had to make a the call, let the monster live or stop him...and i do believe the vril takes his job as a rent a cop to heart and above everything/any thing will always side with his l.e.g.i.o.n.

Ugh. I hated Vril and Stealth's kid. I'm glad that bastard is dead [Big Grin]

Posted by veryvery on :

the only way i'll accept him killing him is if someone cool writes it really well in a way that makes me cry the whooooollle time and vril hates himself over it a lot. and if silica is in it and she wears cute dresses @___@!!

heyyy! you guys see this?

robot 6: talking comics with tony bedard

MOST IMPORTANTLY, THIS!:

quote:
O’Shea: Care to give a hint to readers of what surprises you have coming up in future issues?

Bedard: We’ll soon find out who the big baddie is who stole L.E.G.I.O.N. from Dox, and it’s much bigger than anything Dox expects. We’ll also check in with Dox’s son (the villain from the original R.E.B.E.L.S. series).

oh thank god ;_; no dead baby!

Hah! Maybe he's a zombie. Just kidding.

This should settle the timeline question, where this fits in with the original dot Legion & Rebels, if at all.

well, it's strange. that omega men series has silica in it, and silica is in this. but that series is also where we heard Vril say that his kid is dead.... @_@! but his interaction with tigorr puts the omega men series...before this? right?

Beats me. [Confused] But I suspect we're going to see a somewhat older Lyrl. Possibly Vril thinks he killed his son, intentionally or unintentionally, and will get a big surprise to see the little dear toddling around.

if that is true, how more comic book soap opera can you get with that..next we'll learn vril has a twin
brother...who is evil...

Posted by veryvery on :

well let's not forget that vril himself was KILLED and came back. so maybe he DID kill him and made a clone!

Posted by Caliente on :

Well, I sort of assumed he said that to get the kid to stop asking him questions. You know, a sort of-- "I killed my son, so if you don't stop bugging me, I might do the same to you." But maybe it's just wishful thinking.

Blackest Night:Revenge of the Brainiac Baby

I'd read the hell out of that

wait Blackest Night...would Lyrissa be one of the Dead to Rise?... (ironic this would be a "great" darkness saga i pun me)

I'm still waiting for somebody to explain to me how "Death" can be an emotional state. Well, I guess it is in the same way that "Black" is an actual color. Or something.

[Confused]

Posted by Blockade Boy on :

If I was to wake up dead I think I'd express some emotion not described by another others I've had so what the heck. For the sake of a story, I'll let death be an emotion.

What exactly are the identified emotions again?
Love, hate, sex (that's an emotion, right?), um, ice cream, ..... there's others.
