Now rescued from obscurity, at least for a time. Thanks for the reminder, Sketchy!

I had to look up Zorla and Janice, but remembered those stories. Trying to replace the Legion with an androids-for-hire service, Ayla playing the billionaire... interesting money theme - as was the Janice Warren story, a peek into 30th century high society. That was a time when Jeckie was definitely playing the part of the wealthy princess.

Yeah, I had my trusty copy of Achive Edition #9 handy when I started this thread. Swanky dolls drawn by Win Mortimer, with groovy names!

Alrrk

Uli Algor

Chavak's girlfriend, Yroa

Cute secretary Marli Zhorg

Quicksand isn't from that archive edition, she's from later on in the Grell era. But she is very beautiful and pretty obscure within Legion publishing history.

oh it's kind of sad that i recognize all of those names. i must have been a lonely child. quicksand was a babe and a cool deadly one as well. i always wanted more of her and her subsequent appearances disappointed. she needs to get rid of holdur and join the LSV.

That reminds me... I never saw her postboot appearance in Showcase.

Lightning Lad? Got a scan?

I remember those guys too. That Archive was one good read, and made me want to read more Adventure Era stories.

I quite liked Quicksand's post-boot appearance in Showcase against Leviathan, Gates and XS.

An interesting little combination of members too I thought. I like it when the writers use characters that we don't normally see interact with one another.

And yes, Quicksand does have a certain allure. One of many characters in Legion-dom that make you like them because you know so little about them.

Like Charma, pre-boot. Just a hottie who had the power to make men do her bidding. Only seen, what two times? And yet she warrented being added to the rebooted continuity.

What issue of showcase is this?

Posted by EuroMutt on :

Showcase '96 #8 was the postboot appeaance of Quicksand and Holdur.

The postboot Holdur was pretty kewl-looking.

Ah, Janice Warren. Drawn by the irresistably groovy Win Mortimer. Good stuff.

Thanks Nightcrawlster!

MUST
FIND
COPY
OF
THAT
ISSUE!

Yes Lash, we share a unique admiration for Mortimer. I named a space speedster after him in one of my fanfics!

'Member Princess Elwinda? Practically a clone of Janice Warren. Cham had a type!

Posted by Fat Cramer on :

Holy Mackerel! Both Quicksand and Holdur are wearing fishnets!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Oooh, Cramer, you're right. Call me old school, but Holdur is supposed to be skinny, like Gollum. Oh well.

Posted by legionadventureman on :

BTW - who drew the scenes between Quicksand, Holdur and XS?

Second comment: did Cham ever talk to Janice as to her passing resemblance to Princess E? Would have both intrigued her and freaked her out!!!
If it happened during the story in ACTION 383, would like to know - coz (unfortunately) i never read it.

IIRC, there was mention of the resemblance between Janice and Elwinda. I don't recall the extent, though. Must re-read!

Thinking about it more, I suppose since there is no Pulsar Stargrave to be the "big guy" in the group this time, it makes sense for the reboot version of Holdur to be beefier.

But is he any smarter?

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Ah Holdur, good luck in the Freaks and Geeks competition!

I've been thinking about Uli Algor lately. What a groovy character with a suprising amount of characterization! And with a follow-up appearance to boot! She should have another follow-up.

And in viewing this thread, I can't for the life of me remember what Janice Warren looks like. Do we have scans on LW? Sketches by Sketch? Or Uli for that matter?

Janice Warren looked a lot like Princess Elwinda! [Wink]

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Can we get some scans to prove it?

Having reread this thread this morning, I should have realized I was just asking for this. [Big Grin]
