That's possibly one of the ugliset pictures I have ever seen in my entire life. I don't rate Lee very much (although he was at the Bristol con earlier this year and was actually a very lovely guy) but this cover is just... urgh. Quite apart from PG's stupid boobs and the ribbing that she apparently has on her costume, the anatomy is completely off, her hair looks.. bizarre, she has the whole Michael Turner 'eyes being attacked by a spider' look going on, and her mouth... ye gods, her mouth.

Ugh, ugh, ugh. I'm looking less and less forward to IC now.

On another thread I stated that I wouldn't buy Infinite Crisis unless something freaking marvellous happened. I think this qualifies as freaking marvellous. I'm buying.

I don't think their presence on the cover is going to be a problem unless they fail to adequately explain who these characters are in the story proper.

I seem to recall hearing at one point that
the original plan was for the Earth Prime
Superboy to join the Legion ... that would
have been a neat thing to see.

Can you imagine being not only a comic book
fan, but also being one of the most powerful
beings in creation-- AND a Legionnaire?

That picture is awesome. If DC wants me to accept the return of any of these characters having Lee drawing them is a good idea. And I'm even a bigger Phil Jimenez fan.

Power Girl does look a bit too Danger Girl for me but awesome cover!!!

Well, I read Infinite Crisis #1 and probably understood about a page and a half. I don't have a clue what this is about. And frankly, if it stays this obtuse, I'll just forget about it. The only bit of light for me was at the end, when the REAL Superman (not that anemic mess created by Byrne) decides to make an appearance to save the day. I hope that means the real Superman is returning and these last years have just been a bad dream.

Is it me or does that cover featuring the "Watchers in Limbo" with Power Girl in the centre have the "S" emblem on Kal-L's chest all wrong...doesn't the upper tip of his "S" slope down and touch to the short side on the right of the diamond?

And...has a pic of the second cover for #2 been released?

I'm deleriously happy that DC is undoing COIE.

But whatever happened to The Man of Tomorrow? Having only recently reappeared in Loeb's "Absolute Authority", I just hope he's not forgotten in all this reworking. He was the closest thing to the pre-Crisis Legion's real Superman.

I'll be hoppin' mad if Earth-Prime Superboy becomes canon fodder. Send him back to the future, Mr. Didio. At least he's Kal-El, which Conner will never be.

I think the whole multiverse thing is a red herring. These heroes are coming back to show the current heroes, "the light" and to remind them what happened.

I'm putting the GA Supes on the short list tho. Just a gut feeling.

No, seriously, there's some seriously screwed up anatomy there. Ok, not Liefeld screwed up but pretty damn wonky. If we ignore the fact she has no pupils and barely no whites to her eyes, has majorly collagened lips and boobs that no real woman has (she makes Jordan look believable), have a look at her neck, her right arm, her waist and her right knee. Her neck is impossibly twisted for the way she's standing and while her body is angled away from us and from a position of someone looking up slightly her head and neck are angled so that you're looking at them straight on. Either she has a rubber neck or she's broken it and no-one has noticed yet. The top part of her right arm not only doesn't meet up with her right shoulder but it also appears to be about three feet long while the bottom part of the same arm is probably only a few inches. OK, foreshortenting but it still doesn't work properly. Her waist is just... well, ridiculous. She has very broad shoulders, big hips and GINORMOUS boobs, but her waist and stomach are comparable to someone who hasn't eaten for an age and has had a couple of ribs removed. Her spine also appears to be broken with the way that it curves inseverely without the rest of her body actually being angled in the same way. And then her right knee is just... bizarre. It's like her knee cap has fallen off and she hasn't noticed yet.

Oh, and yes Lois has huge feet and is almost as tall as Superman. Superboy and Alexis Luthor also have very oddly stretched legs.

See, I don't mind styalisation in comics (im Sale is one of my favourite artists and frequently defies anatomy to make a picture look good) but it has to be done with style, rather than just buggereing around with it for the sake of... well, I don't know what. Not convincing or attractive art anyway.

(Sorry Jorg, I'm not really ranting at you or people that do like Lee's work. He's just a fine example of a style that i really dislike in comics. Of course give me Jim Lee over bloody Turner and his tarantula eyes any day).

Since no one else has mentioned this... could Kal-L's punching through the barrier between universes be the "hammering on reality from the outside" from the Titans/Legion Special?

Posted by Stratum on :

That's one theory I heard earlier. Could very well be.

My reaction:
Meh.
(I'm rather enjoying the bickering between Supes, Batman and WW, though.)
And just for the record, I don't want Superman, Superboy or Supergirl in the Legion. Mon-el and Andromeda most certainly. But the Super-people tend to steal all the spotlight.
My two cents.

Posted by Lad Boy on :

I'll toss in my penny so we can make it an opera. No Kryptonians, no time travel.

Posted by Stratum on :

My reaction so far (since everyone else is doing it):

Guarded excitement.

I too, like the bickering, to a point. I like the fact that Clark and Bruce both realize that the other are not living up to expectations. But I do not like how they are shutting out Diana. Bruce I can understand but Clark it just doesn't feel right.

I like the view from the narrator's point of view. I just hope they explain why no one that was present at the birth of the multiverse (CoIE #11, IIRC) remembers like they are supposed to.

I was cursing the deaths as they happened. I see it as a necessary evil to explain the severity of things. Do I like it? No, but I hate seeing characters with so much promise being laid to rest. At least they did it so that some may be able to return.

I'm really excited about what's happening, but at the same time I am not about to base my love off of one issue. Too many times have crossovers had promise and were not able to deliver. Identity Crisis, I'm looking at you.

Maybe, or it was the force that's "rupturing the fabric of space-time" at the end of the Rann-Thanagar War. Or both are just different manifestations of the same Multiverse-related phenomenon.

Stratum, it seems to me the Multiverse is much more than a red herring given that Power Girl is in fact Earth-2 Supergirl (the cover of IC #2 leaves little doubt of this) and Donna Troy now remembers her other lives. It's now integral to the origins of at least two present-day DCU characters, and maybe others. I'm probably going overboard with the idea of Earth-Prime Superboy in the Legion, but dollars to donuts the Multiverse will somehow provide an explanation for the 3boot Legion, and the disappearance of the postboot one.

It's possible Trom. But I'm not quite ready to grasp on to the fact that she's the Earth-2 Supergirl just yet. At least not until the big reveal in JSAC.

As for the multiverse (as we know it), I honestly don't think they will revert back to it. I think that would create even more problems. I think that aspects of it will return to tease us into buying it and we may even end up with a new multiverse but I really doubt it will be the same one most of us know and love.

Jamie

Posted by Tamper Lad on :

They don't have to revert to the old multiverse. They could have a multiverse and the current DCU. My pet theory is that some of the recent deaths (Shayera in particular) could be setting the stage for the return of classic pre-crisis versions of the characters.

Certainly Shayera and Katar from Thanagar of another reality is simpler to understand than whatever continuity post-crisis Shay and Katar had.

Posted by Tromium on :

At the very least, "All Star Superman" seems to suggest that other realities will co-exist along with the mainstream DCU. And even if the Multiverse is not an active part of the post-IC DCU storytelling, Karen and Donna's new origins (and the return of our friends from the Paradise dimension) almost guarantee that it will no longer be a forgotten part.

Yeah, but Superman passed down the title to him and adopted him.

Clark from Earth Prime is just some kid with powers resembling it and a fandom of Supes.

the Earth prime Superboy is supposedly from this earth (ie the real world where there are no superheroes)and during the crisis (i don't remember how)he was the teenage Clark Kent that got his powers when the ant-matter cloud threatened his(this)earth. because if i remember he originally didn't have superpowers.
if anyone cares to elaberate please do because after 20 years my memory is quite fuzzy. [Confused]

The REAL Superboy in the Legion?

I'm thrilled...but how has DC resolved the ownership issue? Have they figured out that it would be worth paying royalties in order to make a mint off the character instead of being petty and writing him out of the comic world entirely?

My comic shop guy was chatting about IC and dropped the rumor on me that the outcome of the story will be that the DC heroes LOST the Crisis in Infinite Earths. The entire DC Universe for the last two and a half decades has been the twisted product of the Psycho Pirate's dementia.

Unfortunately the conversation was interrupted and we didn't get back to it but might this mean that DC is getting ready to reset everything to the late 80s?

They've left themselves room to go many ways with this. One of the Superboy stories (now Conner Kent) had him shooting through hypertime with Superboys in all kinds of underwear. I think the hypertime stuff still exists in this multidimensional or not comic world.

Personally, I would tend to doubt it.

I have the gut feeling that what we're seeing is actually the last hurrah for a lot of these ideas before the DCU moves forward.

That wouldn't be bad either. Even us die-hards could finally accept that it's a done deal and go with the flow or go totally indie.

You know the LSH really would be a kick-nass indie title wouldn't it? Vanth Dreadstar would be a cool recurring Legion villian.

I would hate if they reboot everything to 1985. Unless ofcourse that includes the Legion. [Wink]

But all kidding aside...as much as this idea scares me I think DC will move foward. They have noticed you don't need a massive continuity change to rework a hero or team. (I guess unlike our Legion)

ok why does the "bowling for soup" song 1985 keep popping up in my head when i read this thread??

Posted by Lame Lad on :

I wouldn't mind if they rebooted to 1985 if they could reboot Giffen's pencils to about that time. I think after Crisis, we ended up with Earth-3 Giffen.

Although, to be honest, I luvs Barry's artwork. I remember someone showing me a copy of Empire and I told the guy who was showing it to me that I'd kill to see that guy drawing the Legion because his style just looks natural for it.

The Legion has always has it's share of good artists.

Barry Kitson, Keith Giffen, Mike Grell, Dave Cockrum, Steve Lightle, Coipel (who I think was just outstanding once he hit his groove during Lost).

Anyhow, I still miss my pre-Crisis Legion, when one issue we'd have Superboy and every now and then Kara would show up and the ties to 20th Century like pre-Millenium Laurel Kent, Dev-em, etc. That was the Legion I grew up on, starting with my first issue when I was 7 years old which featured the wedding of Duo Damsel and Bouncing Boy. Comics have come and gone, but I have never given up on the Legion and while each has been enjoyable in it's own way, the Legion before the Baxter format books will always hold a place in my heart.

Posted by Jorg-EM on :

Lame Lad, Giffen has gone through so many styles. But if I can capture that year or so of LOSH #300 through #313 of Giffen's magic. wow. Maybe the perfect Legion.
