With Scott's assistance, I'm now able to present almost the complete cast of the Legion of Super-Heroes... if they'd all come from a quiet white-bread mountain town.
The pictures are based on characters involved in a Legion e-rpg, so some of the costumes may seems a little... odd. The game was ostensibly based on the "Superboy's Legion" Elseworlds title, but with free reign as to characters, costumes and personalities.
I'll add comments as appropriate with the pictures - some of these shots demand explanation...

Some notable Legionnaires are missing (ie. Dawny, Vi, Gates etc.), but that's more to do with the fact that they weren't chosen as characters for the game, as opposed to me not wanting to draw them.
One day I'll get around to modifying some of them to reflect their comic appearance better, and fill out the list 'completely'.

Thanks, LL... Those little details I tended to do as they were quite legible on my PC screen, but tended to be a bit small once converted into a .jpg Of course, I didn't convert any of them until I'd almost finished, and saw all my detail had been shruck to almost invisibility. Sigh. (Consider the fact that the ID photo on Dr. Londo is actually a perfect repro of his face - detail impossible to see in a .jpg)
They were drawn in Illustrator 10.0 - I took jpgs from the South Park website, and redrew Kal using Damien (the Son of Satan) as a template. Once Kal was done, I used him as a template for the rest. The girls was based on Wendy Testerberger where possible, and other elements came from all over the place. Dr Londo was kinda adapted from Mephesto, Satan became Validus, and the hat Cartman wore while pretending to be Will Smith from Wild Wild West became Dirk's ten gallon affair.
Once the shapes were drawn, I used gradient colours in Illustrator to achieve the semi-3D effect.
I've also drawn quite a few Justice League characters in Simpsons style in the same way. Posted by Nightcrawler on :

jpeg compression can be a bitch, especially when you're shrinking a file as well as compressing it. The colors tend to clump up, and you usually end up with ugly bands of color instead of the smooth gradient shading you're going for. That's why Mano's colors turned out the way they did. But for the most part they turned out really well for such small file-sizes. I don't know how Illustrator's options compare to Photoshop, but I'm sure there are quite a few different file types you can exoprt to. Try playing around with gifs. Sometimes a 128 or 256 color gif will compress the colors less, but the file size may end up too large for web posting.

Strangely enough - my parents visited on the weekend and I printed a test page on my new printer to show them what the quality was like. As it turned out, the test page we printed was that shot of Tellus, as it was the picture I was working on at the time. We blew it up to A4 size, and now it adorns the cardboard walls of my 2 and a half year old niece's cubby house. Clearly, Tellus has some sort of cute appeal. Posted by Arachne on :

Even though I started Legion with the Reboot (not this latest ThreeBoot), I managed to develop a fondness for Kent, mostly due to an excellent portrayal of him by another player in an on-line RPG I'm in. I can't actually say I've ever read a story with Kent in it!

I've been toying with the idea of making a crude South Park/Legion story but that would require making a lot more pieces (ie side views, backgrounds and non-person elements) and will undoubtedly be a long time off, if it ever happens. And it definately wouldn't be animated; just a series of static shot with word balloons. I'm no good with stuff that moves... We'll see...
(And if anyone wants to use the new WaK Legionnaires as an avatar, let me know and I'll provide a smaller version without the Legion symbol background (ie on a white field like the other Pre- and Re-boot Legionnaires) that should look better as an avatar.)

PS Dirk's costume actually changed between the preview and his later appearances. I found this out as I was using the preview as a guide, finished the pic, then went to check something in #3 and saw the costume was red-yellow reversed in places. And looks better now, IMHO... Posted by Star Boy on :

Ah but I did! If you compare Impulses' feet to those on the other Legionnaires, you'll see they're almost twice as tall, and he's the only character that I actually put soles onto his shoes as well. Loved Ramos' depiction of Bart!
