Any artists here want to get together for gallery showings of our art? Back on an X-Men board I used to frequent, we'd get together once every 1-2 months and pick a character that we wanted to be the the gallery subject. The character (or two) with the most votes became the gallery subjects and everyone would create and post a drawing, photomanipulation, painting, poem, short story, etc. featuring the subject. Any interest here? [Yes]

Thanks, MEL!

I'll try writing a short story inspired by whatever character we decide on ME Lad, I think this is a brilliant idea!

Posted by Nightcrawler on :

I'm for this. Sounds good. I'll even try to contribute.

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

anybody want to write songs [Razz] ? Haikus would be cool too...

Posted by Spellbinder on :

I might contribute, as well [Smile]

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

I'll write a little ditty [Smile]

I like this idea!

Posted by Harbinger on :

Anyone want to suggest a subject matter/ person to begin with and a date for work to be exhibited?

MELad, as you came up with this idea I propose you start the ball rolling.

Posted by Varalent on :

This sounds like a great idea! Don't know that I can contribute anything of value (though I'll try!) but I sure would love to see the talent here displayed in concert.

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

Alright, thanks Harbinger. Hmmm...who could we start with??? How should we do the vote? Post informally in this column? Maybe everybody choses three so we hopefully can get a true winner? Can non-participants vote?

Posted by DrakeB3003 on :

Sure, I'd be up for this. I don't know how they did it on that X-baord, but I guess monthly would be cool. I think that the nominations should be open to everyone, not just contributors. There's also a question of how much time to leave for voting and how much time to leave for people to do stuff before moving on the the next. (I suppose the next round of nominations would run concurrently as the time left open for creators to post stuff -- that way, there won't be any in-between time.)

Maybe for the first round (just to get things rolling), we can do two weeks of voting, then two weeks of creating while the next round of votes takes place then after that go monthly?

Oh, and to keep to the idea of a gallery, maybe we can have an "opening" -- a specific day for creators to all post stuff at once after the time period for working is over (although latecomers will still be welcome).

Sounds good DrakeB3003, sound okay with everyone else? As for my votes, I've been meaning to do something with Timberwolf for a while, so I guess he gets one of my votes. Here's my choices:
Timberwolf
Levithan/Colossal Boy
Polar Boy

Posted by LegionFan223 on :

I vote for

1. Princess Projectra
2. Timber Wolf
3. Invisible Kid

I love this idea, but I am not creative. Thanks for opening the voting to non-contributers. I LOVE this board!!!

I'll contribute somehow.

My votes are:

Triad

Infectious Lass

Matter-Eater Lad

I've no artistic skills but I'm told my writing's okay. I can't promise a story but I'm sure I can at least find an appropriate song.

Since I'm the newbie, I'll let the rest of you decide who we're going to feature.

If you want to see some of my words, check out the Legionnaire Heroes topic.

If you want to see a lot of my words, check out my Yahoo Group:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HyperionRanch/

Erotic M/M stories with an emphasis on B&D. Meet your favorite characters from Pine Valley, the 30th Century, Middle Earth, West Hollywood, Graymarye, Amazona, and Major League Soccer at Hyperion Ranch!

My stuff gets pretty raunchy sometimes but I try to keep a sense of humor and all my stories have happy endings.

Posted by DrakeB3003 on :

I'll vote for:
Timberwolf
Dreamer
and just to be different,
Mano!!

btw, M-E Lad, when does this round of voting close?

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

Hurm...should we say 11:59 and 59 seconds pm, pacific time Friday night (the 5th)? I forget, how long for the creation process of the gallery showing? Two weeks? Three? More?

Posted by Varalent on :

To add some amateur grist to the mill (should make all the rest of you shine even more than you do anyway!) I'll try to offer something as well.

My votes are as follows:

Mon-el
Timber Wolf
Emerald Empress (surely the Empress is deserving if Mano is! [Big Grin] )

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Luornu
Mano
Brek

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

I say:

Luornu
Tinya
Mano

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

A little over one day left of voting. C'mon and be heard!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

So far a pretty nice turn out for Mano [Smile] !

Posted by Quislet, Esq on :

I'm going to have to vote for Mano too.

He seems like the over-looked member of the Fatal Five. Tharok was the leader. Validus was huge. The Empress, well she goes without saying.

Mano and Persuader were the back ground boys.

Posted by DrakeB3003 on :

hehe -- boy, look at the Mano votes pour in! Too bad I didn't say "Grinn"... [Big Grin]

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

Well I think votings done. We've got a sorta tie, 2 or 3 way depending on how you look at it. If you count the one vote for Duo Damsel as a vote from Triad, then here's the final tally:
4 Mano
4 Timberwolf
4 Triad + Duo Damsel
2 Polar Boy
Apparition
Dreamer
Emerald Empress
Infectious Lass
Invisible Kid
Levithan/Colossal Boy
Matter-Eater Lad
Mon-el
Princess Projectra

If you don't count Triad and DD the same, that Mano and Timber Wolf are the finalists. I think the last time I did this, we kept the top two so that people had a choice for their submission in the gallery. What do y'all think? Keep two or just one?

Posted by Nightcrawler on :

I'd rather we all do the same character. So maybe a run off is in order?

Posted by DrakeB3003 on :

I agree -- runoff to pick the top ONE! (gee, since I picked them both, I'm torn...)

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

I vote for Mano. He definitely deserves some exposure.

Posted by Juan on :

Yeah, let's do Mano

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I think the Duo Damsel/Triad votes should be counted together.

I'd like see people's takes on Mano, however.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

I'll go Mano too! We can always get Brin or Luornu next month! Mano stills needs validation for the Empress forming a new Fatal Five during Levitz's run and purposely excluding hiim.

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

I don't want Brin to feel left out so I'll vote TWolf...

Posted by Harbinger on :

Although I really like Brin I'm intrigued by Mano so he gets my vote this round.

Posted by DrakeB3003 on :

Wow -- I'm surprised by the Mano turnout -- I suggested him cuz he's been one of my fav villains who hasn't had that much credibility but with this support, I'll have to go with Mano as well!

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

Unless a barrage of Brin backers brings more ballyhoo, I think Mano wins this vote HANDS down [Razz]

So how long do we set for the creation process? I'd say minimum two weeks but longer if y'all think that'd be good.

Posted by Proty II on :

Mano's okay in my book.

Posted by DrakeB3003 on :

Here's an idea to keep things simple -- what if the big gallery openings where we post all our work happens the first of the month? Latecomers can still post stuff afterwards during the next round of voting.

Either way, I'll go by whatever date you pick M-E Lad.

I like it, Drake3003! April 1st (no joke!) for the grand opening of the Mano Wing of the Museum of Legion Arts (MLA).
Event: Mano: The Hand, the Myth, the Legend. The Mano Wing Grand Opening, MLA.
Time: All day, April 1st, 3003.
Location: Bits o' Legionnaire Business, Legion World.
Refreshments: Mano Martinis, Mano Malted Beers, Fatal Five Fried Chicken, Mano mango salad, Mano manwichs, hand-decorated desserts, and other finger foods will be served.
Description: You and a guest are cordially invited to attend the grand opening of the Mano Wing of the Museum of Legion of Arts. Legion World's finest artists, writers, and other creative beings will contribute some of their finest work based on famously flawed fellow of the Fatal Five!

Very cool! I'll get right to my Mano submission for the inaugural gallery exhibit. So, I guess we need a new round of nominations while the Mano stuff is being worked on with a runoff culminating in the announcement of the next winner at the beginnning of next month? How does that sound?

Posted by Nightcrawler on :

Good!

I'm working on my Mano pic too! And I vote for runner-up Timber Wolf as our next victim!

Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :

I vote for Kinetix, just because. [Smile]

Posted by Harbinger on :

I plan on writing a small story about Mano for the opening, but need as much info as I can get on him - does anyone have a file on him (apart from the Science Police and quite a few debt collection agencies [Smile] ) they could share?

Posted by Nightcrawler on :

Here's the Who's Who page that'll eventually show up in the Encyclopedia. Sorry it's not big on details and that it's pre-boot. I'll try to dredge up details on the deeper, more complex post-boot version as well -

Mano was born on the extremely polluted world Angtu in the latter half of the 30th Century. A mutant with a glowing disk on his right hand that could disintegrate virtually anything, Mano became psychotic and eventually used his power to destroy his own world.
Joining a group of the galaxy’s worst villains summoned by the Legion of Super-Heroes (see LSH) to defeat the menacing Sun-Eater, he became a charter member of the Fatal Five (see Fatal Five).

POWERS & WEAPONS

Mano has a glowing disk on his right hand that can disintegrate virtually any form of matter. He is a dangerous physical combatant as well. Art by Jim Starlin

That's still technically pre-boot, MEL. Mano was one of the first villains to battle the newly formed post-boot Legion. LEGIONNAIRES #19-20, LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES Vol.4 #63.

Leland McCauley sold one side of the Angtu warring factions a chemical which when used, wiped out the entire planet's population except for Mano. Mano contemplated single suicide. But decided not to add one more corpse to the heap and used his power on the planet itself. Somehow he survived, drifting in space.
He then set out for revenge against the fourth richest man in the Galaxy at the lunar research base of Earth’s McCauley Industries. This Mano’s hand is swathed in an energy that can disrupt the balance between atoms and disintegrate anything with a touch. The Legion was called in to stop the madman and almost got wiped out. Then Brainy explains that Mano needs to recharge in order to use his power to destroy the Moon. The Legion narrowly stop him by having Chameleon masquerade as McCauley and Invisible Kid sneaks up to subdue his hand.

Interesting to see that he actually isn't supposed to need a helmet/fishbowl anymore. I hadn't realized they did away with it at one point.

Oh yeah, and is Mano's right glove made from leftover scraps of pre-boot Superboy's cape or something? You'd think it would've disintegrated or something...

Just a few more days before the unveiling!!!! Hope everyone has been working on their Mano! Can't wait to see/read them all!

Posted by Nightcrawler on :

ARGH! I'm done! I scanned and loaded my Mano pic up before I draw it yet again! I can never make myself happy with what I draw. I drew various variations of this pic 5 times with a few other ways to do it bouncing around my brain. But I'm done! Now that its loaded to the site, I ain't drawing it no more!

(See why I never tried to draw for a living. [Smile] )

[Mano]

MELad, may I suggest that you set up a seperate Gallery only (or even a Mano Gallery only) thread for people to post their contributions on, on April 1st. And for those who are drawing images for this, but don't have a website to store it at, you can e-mail me your image and I'll host it here at LW.

Posted by Spellbinder on :

Don't feel bad, Gary. I did the same thing. In fact, once I had the final image drawn, inked and scanned, I ended up erasing some things and cropping the image in PSP as I was coloring it, deciding that I preferred a more simple drawing.

That's why MY occupation doesn't involve creative art of any kind [Smile]

Posted by Varalent on :

Hehehe! That's why it helps to have NO talent for drawing. I simply resorted to a crude attempt at a manip and I'm just thrilled that I was able to do that! I'll be happy if people agree it resembles Mano. [Big Grin]

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

That's a good idea Gary, I think maybe one gallery thread for each character? I'm thinking of starting it now because it will be April 1st for some people before me here in California.

Me, I had a busy weekend and didn't have time to work on my Mano manip for more than 2-3 hours. I will definitely finish it though, even if I have to pull an all nighter.

Posted by Nightcrawler on :

Hey! Can I post my pic tomorrow (Mar 31st) at 4am Pacific? Since that's Midnight (April 1st) in New Zealand? I'm the impatient sort, if you haven't noticed?

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

Heh heh, I actually finished my Mano manip last night and want to share it already too. Hmm...how about, if you answer this New Zealand related trivia question, you get to post your pic early? Name 6 hobbits from LotR (filmed in New Zealand)! "Peter Jackson" does not count.

D'oh I forgot to add, this is NOT an open note test. You have to answer based on your own knowledge [Razz]

The only thing about that is that old galleries will fall by the wayside. If we keep it to one thread, but change the name each time then all the gallery entries will remain available, not just the current ones.

Well, it's up to you, M-E Lad. I look forward to seeing what y'all have been working on [Smile]

Sure that's fine too. I'm not sure how to change a thread title...is it difficult?

Oh I forgot, when's the voting cut off for the subject of the next wing of the MLA?

Posted by Spellbinder on :

Just a thought, but if we do a different thread for each gallery, wouldn't that make it easier for someone to add a new piece to it? For instance, if someone missed the Mano Gallery opening, they could always add something to it a month or two later without interrupting the current gallery project.

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

No problemo. The Mano gallery will continue to accept submissions after the April 1st opening (apparently before the April 1st opening as well [Razz] )

That's a good point Cru. I guess if we're worried about the other galleries being lost with the multiple galleries idea, we could always include links to the older gallery in the beginning of the new gallery and even bump the old ones up to the top in anticipation of the new openings.

4 Timberwolf
2 Luornu (Triplicate Girl/Duo Damsel/Triad/etc.)
Dirgible Dictator
Kinetix
Starboy

Shall we say last day to vote it this friday at 1159pm west coast time? I'd like to see more people vote and contribute - what can we do? Offer nekkid photomanipulations of Matt? [Wink]

UPDATED: I was just kidding about the nekkid pictures, please stop emailing me (LASH and Spellbinder this means you). [Razz]

Oh make an effort Dawny will you? Come on, stop lurking and start adding....

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

Standings so far:
5 Dawnstar (Or a winged motif, with Dawny, Shikari, Ornitho, or anybody else that appeared with wings in Legion-related books)
4 Cosmic Boy
2 Lightning Lad
2 Venturan Walking Money
1 The Legion (et al) in overalls!
1 Venturan Walking Money in overalls!
1 Ultra Boy
1 Saturn Girl

Any more votes? None of these votes were from Alt-IDs (i.e. multiple votes for the same voter) were there? That wouldn't be too fair...

Nope, no alt ID's here so far! I'll let you know though ME Lad if an alt ID disrupts the voting with a very rude "outing" [Wink]

~ Shouldn't this involve only characters that have had more than one appearance? And are characters, period? In another sense, aren't you all joking about the walking money?

~ Have I always been this literal? (Probably.)

~ When does the voting end?

If we go with Venturan Walking Money, I'll actually contribute*! I already have the idea for the drawing!

3 Venturan Walking Money
2 Lightning Lad
1 The Legion (et al) in overalls!

Grey, the Walking Money has had at least two appearances that I know of, and have a LOT of character, depending on one's definition of character. I still voted for winged folk, though.

I know Shikari qualifies, but how about Shakira?

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

I actually have a drawing or two in the mail to a scanner to be posted in Teed's Missing a Muse Gallery!

But those characters are also on the list of those in the running, so if we do a gallery on them, I'll be able to post drawings and poetry!

Its time to choose the August candidate to receive their own Museum of Legion Arts wing. My 3 choices:
Cosmic Boy
Polar Boy
Colossal Boy

Let's have voting for a week? Not too long so we have enough time to create our masterpieces though. Also don't forget about San Diego Con so some folks'll have even less time...

(okay I have four instead of three, I know)

Cosmic Boy

Founders three for me too.

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

Hmm...curious, technically Cosmic Boy by himself won but the "Founders" combo and Lightning Lad both drew the next highest numbers.

I think we can make to greatest number of people happy by having a ALL "3 Founders" theme gallery let's have any of the "Founders" theme gallery so you can make solo pics of Cos, LL, and Hussie, or Cos and LL making out, or LL and Hussie, or Hussie and Cos, or all three of them together.

Is that okay with everyone?

Here's the voting:
Cosmic Boy 4
three Legion founders 3
Lightning Lad/Live Wire 2
Gates 2
XS 2
Polar Boy
Colossal Boy
Mon-El
Invisible Kid

Mmmkay, here's your (almost) midmonth reminder about the next gallery opening we'll be having here at the Legion of Museum Arts. The next wing of the museum will be dedicated to individual and group works featuring the original founders: Saturn Girl, Cosmic Boy, and Lightning Lad.

It's almost that time again... I look forward to seeing what people are going to do with the founders -- lots of possibilities here.

I love how the founders wing has shaped up! A hearty 'good job' to everyone who contributed.

MEL, any ideas for the next gallery for September? Are we going to take more votes now or work from the list we already have?

Posted by Future on :

Gim HAS been under-appreciated the last six years or so! Being a corpse and all that droll.

Posted by Harbinger on :

I like to write about one of the lesser known characters as I feel there isn't much scope to develop characters when they are shown every month. Okay I'm being selfish here really but I really enjoyed writing the peice for Mano yet haven't felt that there has been enough latitude with the other choices as they are all heavy with history. It goes to show how open and inventive the posters are here that when I feel I'm struggling to come up with anything interesting there is a talented gang of stalwarts who never fail to deliver, and deliver well at that. My hat is off to you all!

I didn't know who to offer but thinking about it Cobsters idea is great. Colossal Boy would be good as he's been out of continuity for a while.

Belinda, I was thinking something along the same lines. I wanted something more along the lines of Mano, but I went with Gim anyway, since he pretty much hasn't had much done with him in forever.

Wildfire is my favorite Legionnaire, so I wouldn't mind him, although I did want to get to more obscure ones.

The Subs work well too (I'd say we could even do one at a time!).

But my vote will remain Gim Allon!

Posted by minesurfer on :

I say we go with a villain. Its been awhile since we done one, and lets face it, the Legion villains are probably one of the most under utilized comic book groups ever. I vote for The Emerald Empress.

Posted by DMFirebow on :

Speaking of characters not having had anything done with for awhile...

My vote is for

Kono!!! I'd love to seem some post-boot ideas for her!

Posted by Varalent on :

I'd love to see any of those mentioned so far. The Subs would be a great deal of fun and give everyone losts of options & Gim definitely needs some attention from someone so I'll cast my vote for those two.

2 Kono

Karate Kid
Polar Boy
Gates
Spark
Wildfire

Depending on Future's post on August 06, 2004 12:37 PM, which is kind of a vote for Gim (I think?), we either have a tie or the Subs have one. What do y'all think?

Posted by Future on :

I was casting my vote for Gim at the time, theoretically, though I'd be more interested in seeing what everyone would do with the various Subs since they were nomianted after my post.

Perhaps we can go with the Subs now and save Gim for next month? I'd love to see both get their time to shine.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

I hope Gim gets one soon!

I'll have to pick out the Subs who deserve it the most for my poems. In other words, Stone Boy and Chlorophyll Kid, get ready for some prose!

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

With Future's amended voting, FINAL SCORES ARE IN!
6 Legion of Substitute-Heroes
4 Collosal Boy
2 Kono

Alas poor Gim, so close! This month's subject will be the Legion of Sunstitute-Heroes (either as a whole or individually)! Please have your contributions ready for posting on or around September 1st!

The Main Subs (first 5 are founders)

Polar Boy
Stone Boy
Night Girl
Fire Lad
Chlorophyll Kid
Color Kid
Porcupine Pete
Infectuous Lass

You can also count Star Boy and Dream Girl for a time.

There's the Levitz era second subs of Cosmic Boy, Night Girl, Bouncing Boy, Duo Damsel and Comet Queen (wow, I can post my pic of Cos again!).

Then there are the other Subs of the Subs, like Double Header, but I can never remember those.

I think I'm going to focus exclusively on Stone Boy for this gallery!

Edit: Never mind. Ethel and Tusker were supposed to be villians in the Subs Special, weren't they?

6 Halloween Legion
Halloween Legion & Titans crossover
Teen Titans
Teen Titans in Legion rings and uniforms
XS
Live Wire/Spark
Superboys(Clark and Connor/Kon)
Valor/M'Onel/Mon-El

Coming All Hallow's Eve this October 31st, prepare for a special Halloween themed gallery at the Museum of Legion Arts! Post works of your favorite LoSH characters in Halloween themed contributions *OR* works of your fellow Legionworlders as LoSH characters (you can include references to the TItans if you'd like). Instead of the usual 'posting on the 31st/1st we'll instead starting opening the doors to posts on October 30th/31st instead.

People might want to take into consideration that November 1st is Dias de Los Muertos/All Saint's Day and November 2nd is All Soul's Day (as well as Election day). Perhaps somebody more knowledgeable than myself on the subject can explain the significance of those days? If I had thought of it sooner, I'd have suggested "Legion Elections" as another possible theme for the gallery.

Let's get next month's voting started. Who wants to start the voting? Chose up to three options.

I vote we do something on the Flash's Rogues gallery. That would be a change of pace and something fun. Captain Boomerang, Pied Piper, Trickster, Captain Cold, Heat Wave, The Top, Abra Kadabra, Mirror Master, Dr. Alchemy, Reverse Flash... That's a pretty good Rogues gallery that gets little attention. Flash even has connections to the Legion.

Anybody? Oh all right... I vote for The Fatal Five.

2 Legion of Super-Villains
2 Fatal Five
Umbra (Post-ZH)
Valor/M'Onel/Mon-El
Legion of Super-Rejects
Flash's Rogues gallery

Congrats to all you postbooters!

Shall we get the voting started for January 1st? I guess I'll start:

2) Princess Projectra
3) Starboy

With the Waid/Kitson series starting I'd love to see OUR renditions of what you think the Legionnaires that have yet to make the cut for the new series would look like in this version. Sort of as remiders to Waid & Barry of some of the guys & gals we'd like to see appear.

For example, I would probably do Mon or Condo or maybe Mysa, retooled to fit the Kitson look.

Oooooo a very close vote this round! The January 1st (New Years) gallery unveiling for the Museum of Legion Arts will be your own renditions of characters that didn't make the first cut of the Waid/Kitson era team (We're gonna have to come up with a shorter gallery name [Wink] )...

3 Waid/Kitson: TNG
2 Princess Projectra
2 Star Boy
2 Live Wire/Spark

Okay off the top of my head, here's some shorter names for the "your own renditions of characters that didn't make the first cut of the Waid/Kitson (WaK) era team" gallery. Please feel free to add your own ideas or mutate one of those below --

WaK: On Deck
LoSH: Recruitment Drive
LoSH: Season 2
WaK Legion of Super-Heroes: The Next Generation
LoSH:The WaK Farm Team
WaK Legion of Super-Heroes: The Minors
Waid/Kitson Wannabes
WaK Era Bench Warmers
WaK LoSH Idol: The Search For A Superhero

Also, we should probably get the vote going for the February 1st gallery opening. Would anyone like to start?

Legion Couples (it IS Valentines Month after all)

Give your favorites Legionnaires a healthy dose of Grandin Gender-Reversal Disease or a shot of Profem and see comes up! Guys to girls! Girls to guys! Girly guys to guyly girls! Oh the possibilities! So yeah...that's for later. My vote's for Legion couples for February [Smile]

editted cause i think i spelled 'guyly' wrong...even though i don't think it actually exists as a word...

Not a lot of other Legion couple pics on the web for me to color, y'know?
There are some pretty nice Steve Lightle pics of various couples but I've only seen a few of those.

Just a reminder to actually work on whatever it is that we're calling "your own renditions of characters that didn't make the first cut of the Waid/Kitson (WaK) era team" gallery.

Mmmkay, my official vote for the NAME of the January 1st gallery is:

WaK Sophomores!

Well that leaves each of these names with 1 vote:
WaK Era Benchwarmers
WaK: The On Deck Circle
WaK - Legion Tryouts
WaK Sophomores

Should we say which ever catagory name gets the most votes wins? Which basically means, if ANY catagory gets more than 1 vote, it'll win [Big Grin]

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

It's been forever since I contributed! Don't hate me too much guys...you know how my female fans keep me from producing limericks and poetry!

I think WaK: The On Deck Circle, Couples for Feb., and Transgendered Legionnaires are all great ideas.

But we need more galleries where I can post my Cos pic!

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

FYI, the WaK: On Deck Circle Gallery will open Jan. 1 2005. This gallery will comprise of creative works of "your own renditions of characters that didn't make the first cut of the Waid/Kitson (WaK) era team".

Since we'll be par-taying New Years' eve, you can post your stuff a tad early if you want [Big Grin]

Yeah, you might get banned but it would be worth it! [Big Grin]

Hmmmkay, so February 1st is almost here, so don't forget to work on your "couples" themed work for the new gallery.

Here was the voting breakdown for Feb 1st:
5 Legion Couples
2 The Ranzz Fam
2 The LSV
Spark
Umbra
Andromeda

A couple of folks have already started voting for March 1st - you should too!

Here are my 3 votes:

3 Chemical King
3 White Witch
2 Kid Psycho
2 Legion of Transgendered Super-Heroes

Ayla/Lightning Lass/Light Lass/Spark

Hey, White Witch is Kat's coloring contest theme, too. I'll be creating stuff to present in both areas!

We're a little behind on the voting schedule, sorry! Let's try to vote and decide what we do for our April 1st (no joke!) gallery in the next week or two. I just noticed, the next gallery will be our one year anniversary of the Museum of Legion Arts! Anybody have any special themes they've been meaning to try?

Here are my 3 suggestions:
Legion of Super-Villians
Legion of Transgendered Superheroes (your fav Legionnaires gender reversed)
1960s Legion of Superheroes (your renditions, usage of the original costumes/cast of Legion)

Posted by Vee on :

K, here's my nominations for the April Anniversary gallery.

1) The Legion of Super Villains;
2) An all new, original villain for the all new WaK Legion (let those creative juices flow!);
3) Kid Psycho

Posted by DrakeB3004 on :

1) that "original villain" idea seems interesting
2) Brainiac 5
3) Shady

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

Actually we need to decide asap since its already 1/2 way through march. so far LoSV and original villians have two votes each. How about next vote for one of these two decides it?!?

Legion of Super Villians it is! Anybody have a good team shot or website resource with a bunch of LSVers?

Also so that we can get back on track, let's start voting already for the next round...

Posted by Vee on :

Maybe someone can scan in that splash page from the TMK issue that introduced the LSV. It resembled "The Last Supper" as I recall and showed many if not all of the members of the LSV.

Next round of voting:
- Dreamy
- Brainy
- Hate Face

Posted by MLLASH on :

Next round, I like having 2 subjects, so...:

-Matter-Eater Lad & Infectious Lass
-Hate-Face & Leeta 87
-Karate Kid & Princess Projectra

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Ooh, I like "non-Legion Shanghalla denizens"...

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I like it! Hate Face and Leeta 87! This would be an especially good time for the writers in the group to get something organized.

Posted by Doc Nimbus on :

i gotta go with Matter-Eater Lad and Infectious Lass or Stiletta and Styx!

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

How about:
Visi-Lad
Karate Kid
Element Lad

Oh, yeah, Karate Kid!

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

So here's a couple of villian micros for the LoSV gallery:
http://www.geocities.com/legion_of_super_heroes/microlegion/microlegion.html

can anyone ID which of the folks belong the LoSV?

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

MEL, I'm pretty confident about this list, but I'd easily accept any amendments. This is who I understand to have been in the LSV....

Second row- 5th, 6th and 7th characters. Lightning Lord, Saturn Queen and Cosmic King.

Entire third row, except the last character.
Nemesis Kid, The Hunter, Chameleon Chief, Magno Lad, Radiation Roy, Sun Emperor, Micro Lad and Terrus.

5th row- only the last character, Titania.

6th row- 1st,2nd, 3rd and 5th characters. Lazon, Silver Slasher, Mist Master, Spider Girl.

7th row- last character, Esper Lass.

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

Wowsers, in a very suprising turn of events, we ended up having a groovy little tie. Since some folks voted for duos and others for single characters, our May 1st gallery winners are Hate Face and Karate Kid! Voting breakdown:

2 Hate Face and Leeta 87
1 Hate Face
1 Karate Kid & Princess Projectra
2 Karate Kid
2 Matter-Eater Lad and Infectious Lass
1 non-Legion Shanghalla denizens
1 Stiletta and Styx
1 Visi-Lad
1 Element Lad
1 Dreamy
1 Brainy

Who has Hate Face pictures?! Anybody? Please get started on your gallery submissions and also start voting for the next gallery if you don't mind!

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

I was starting to think about a WaK era Karate Kid and don't know what ethnicity of actor to go with! Thoughts? What did they call him in issue 4? EuroAmerican?

Posted by DrakeB3004 on :

Actor-wise, you're free to use a little creative license I imagine. The only thing for certain is the skin tone.

I'll start voting for next round:
Shady
Cham
Mordru

my votes:
Dev-em
Ferro Lad
Dream Girl

Lallorians

Hey Drake, I think your votes from your 04/12/05 post are for the June 1st gallery so do you want me to count the 05/01/05 votes towards the July 1st gallery? Sorry for the confusion...

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

I think these are the votes that count towards the June 1st gallery:
4 Lallorians
3 Leeta 87
1 Shady
1 Cham
1 Mordru
1 Star Boy
1 Wanderers
1 Element Lad

Since Sketch Lad is sorta voting for both the Lallorians and Leeta (which would then give Leeta 4 votes), should we have a combined 'Leeta and the Lallorians Wing'?

I would say yes, since postboot he (as SPLITTER) was said to be Lallorian. Can't remember if his preboot version's planet was ever revealed. If not, there's no reason to assume he hasn't always been Lallorian.

I just re-read my bikini masterpiece....Okay, that thing was pretty darn funny if I do say so myself! I was acting on several ideas from fellow fans at LSH-Pics and other Legion (LMB)forums. First of all, the all-girl Legion with Cosmic Miss and Solar Lass, etc. Secondly, the whole discussion about what they call their clothing. Uniform? Costume? Outfit? Next, Saturn Girl as Panel Hog Lass. Dawnstar (Venus Girl) as a money grubber. Bonus points to those who identify the "villain" in the story. He's an actual character from Legion canon named Zaton Glissand.

Can i suggest that we vote for characters/situations that can be written about please? Golden age (classic costumes) for instance doesn't give me much room to work with. Sorry to be a spoilsport

Posted by Gina DC on :

I don't see how not, actually. I mean, I don't mean to be contrary or anything, but there's even more room for a writer to work with something like 'golden age (classic costumes)' than an artist: they TALKED funny! [Big Grin] They talked funny and the menaces they faced were so much weirder / more cracked-out / impossible / implausible than they are now.

Posted by Harbinger on :

maybe it's just me Gina, and excuse me for voicing my own opinion, but the "..(classic costumes)" part of the title would give far more scope for an artist that a writer to produce an acceptable peice of work. So, again I ask we pick titles for our Wings that are open to broader definition therefore more of our community can be included in these events. Fair enough?

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

That's fine - hope that means we get some writers to actually post their work in the museum again!

70s Sexy Era Legion
Persuader
Kid Psycho
Stone Boy
Between 6 and 11 pm... (eveningwear, dates, conversations in candlelight...)

That means its time for our creative folks to infect Legionnaires with Grandin Gender Reverse Disease or else prescribe them a health dose of ProFem and or ProDude! In other words, start working on your creative stuff featuring gender-reversed Legion characters for posting beginning October 1st!

Please begin voting for the November 1st gallery!

Just a thought--

Do you think people aren't seeing this b/c its highlighted? Maybe we'll just highlight the monthly Gallery thread, but un-highlight the Voting thread?

Not answering me = You're always right Cobie, go for what you believe is best for the world!

That's a good question Cobes...I dunno?

My November 1st votes:
Shadow Lass
Element Lad
Sun Boy

Any more?

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I plan on voting at the very end. I'll be a tie breaker if needed. I don't have a strong opinion about what the next theme should be.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

If more people don't respond or vote, I think I'll de-headline this thread and at least try...who knows if that even has anything to do with it at all, but since these Galleries are the epitomy of coolness here in the Bits forum, I'd like to work to keep active participation up!

Posted by Vee on :

I think you may be right. I know I have to remember to look at the last date posted on highlighted threads or else I just ignore them becasue they are always there instead of popping up to the top of the page. Try it and see what happens.

My votes for next month...

Kid Psycho
Mon-ElDuplicate Boy

We'd had more than one request to highlight this thread, Cobes, through various means. If we get any more, perhaps after a few days we should put it back.

Or at least add "(Closing for November)", etc., to the title, which is what is happening anyway.

I'll suggest Space Shots -- the Legionnaires being active in space, which is their "natural" venue in that century.

I like it when we have more than a single character in the exhibits, so having Andromeda and Umbra/Shadow Lass share the spot is great.

I'm not ready to vote yet, I like to wait til the end.

Cobie, I bet if you look back in the Subs exhibit, you'll find Stone Boy, and if you look in the LSV exhibit, you'll find the Persuader. As for Kid Psycho, well, um...one of the Crisis issues? Meanwhile, keep campaigning! It *could* pay off. [Smile]

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Okay Cobes, well... seems there were no Persuader pictures in the LSV wing. I checked. I'd thought that Vee did one, but it seems he did other Fivers. Sorry.

In the Subs wing, I did a group shot which included Stone Boy, and I did a series which showed each member of the Subs with a carefully selected Bat Villain. I showed Stone Boy splotching into Clayface. So, I'm just looking out for you.... hope you get a look at those pictures and enjoy them.

As for Kid Psycho, well, um...Crisis?

Considering that we know for a fact that she's headed for the book I felt there was a deplorable lack of Supergirl stuff in 'bits...he he...Polar Boy felt the same way...

Is there a chance of attracting Supergirl fanboys onboard for the duration?

Other Era Legionnaires (Tyroc, Blok, Chemical King, etc.) in v4 attire. I Think that would be cool to see. I think the 'Uniform' feel for the legion was cooler than any other era outfits. It just felt more like a team when their costumes had a bit of uniformity to them.

3 Golden-Age Legion (Legionnaires Re-imagined for World War II!)
2 Supergirl and the Legion gallery
2 LSH in formalwear
LSH characters in all-new all-different costumes

So due to a terminal lack of time I've never had time to have a go at this, but... I'm on holiday, I saw the topic, and thought I'd have a go.
But... I am clueless! [Confused] I drew a picture for the Golden Age Legion (hope that's the right topic at the moment!) but am not sure where we post them? I think it seems like someone starts a thread on the 1st of the month and people post their pictures to it? Which means... hmmm... Seems I'm a little early. [Wink] All the more time to draw another picture I suppose...
So if someone could let me know (or point out a thread) that explains things that'd be super. [Wink]

PS Oh yeah... I'll add a vote for the next topic as well maybe? If it's not a faux pas to agree with a previous voter so early, I say:

- Non-powered supporting characters
- Meetings of WaK Legionnaires with Pre-WaK Legionnaires
- Legion of Magic-Heroes (either existing Magic heroes or existing Legionnaires in a magic/fantasy setting)

Magic Users move ahead with three votes.

Bad Girls, Blok, Elseworlds and Lil Legion are behind with two votes each.

Mordru, super girls, saturn girls, mullets, and blue stuff have one vote each.

Though, actually, is a vote for Mordru also a vote for Magic Users? If so, then they have 4 votes.

We need MEL to call this!

Wow, super close voting this month! It looks like September's gonna be filled with good guys gone bad since the Servants of Darkness won! Not only can you make new 20th century heroes into Servants of Darkness, but how about we throw in existing Servants of Darkness as well?

Here's the voting (so close that if anybody wants to reelect the second place finishers I'm sure they'd have a good chance!):
3 Servants of Darkness and S.O.D. treatment to other 20th century folks
2 Disco/swimsuit early '70's costumes to others
2 Matter-Eater Lad
2 Bad Girl theme
2 Legion group portraits
Dream Girl
Durlans
A tribute to Mr.Dave Cockrum
The 5 year gap treatment to others

And also, please start voting for January's gallery whenever you feel like it!

Posted by Mystery Lad on :

In honor of January (named for Janus, the Roman god of doors who had two faces), and the recent trick used by Saturn Girl and Phantom Girl in the most recent issue of S&TLSH, how about a month of combined heroes?

They could be other straight out amalgamations (like Tinya and Imra were visually combined in the story that just came out), or two-in-ones like Wildfire (Atom'x and the other guy whose name I can't recall... Blaster?) or Wildfire/Sun Boy from the 5YL era.

And, of course, there could all sorts of variations on the Composite Superman.

I'll suggest a Cockrum tribute of some sort.

Posted by DrakeB3004 on :

Good idea -- what about using his unused characters? Take a look at the threads Scott bumped over at the Visionaries forum to see what I'm talking about. If this wins out, we'll make an official list.

Posted by Lurker Lass on :

As much as making anaglam characters sounds entertaining, the Cockrum tribute gets my vote. Especially since he's got so many potential character ideas that never got used.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I fully support a Cockrum tribute. I'd prefer not to limit this to just his unused characters, or for that matter, Legion characters. How 'bout ANY character he illustrated?

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Hmm... I'd favor "Cockrum designs" more generally, but prefer to keep it Legion oriented. I'm actually fairly open, however.

COCKRUM tribute.

Off the top of my head, This would include Infectious Lass, Porcupine Pete, Wildfire, Tyr, Molecule Master, Devil-Fish, all of those awesome 70s LSH costumes he designed, Marvel's Imperial Guard and his unused OUTSIDERS characters if we want to keep it Legion-related. That's a good bit of characters!

I've gone ahead and called it! The Feb. exhibit is called Mon-El's Zone. Please submit your creative works featuring Lar Gand as Mon-El, M'Onel, Valor, etc....

Also, let's begin our nominations for the March theme!!!!

What's going on in March? Spring, St. Patrick's Day. That's a lot of green stuff. How 'bout a
GREEN LEGION exhibit? If it's green, and has to do with the Legion, make an exhibit out of it. Let's see... Zoe wore green a lot. Brainy has green skin. Emerald Empress has green hair and clothing. Lamprey had a lot of green....

or

SPRING LEGION! Legionnaires in gardens full of flowers or out in the sunshine.

or

BLONDES! (How's that for a theme change?) Saturn Girl, Andromeda, Element Lad, Nemesis Kid, Mentalla, etc etc....

Okay, those are my three....

EMERALD LEGION!!!!

(MEL, step up anytime!)

It seems like this is the idea the majority of voters want to see happen in March.

So, writers....
What is your idea for an Emerald Legion? What would happen if the Emerald Empress and the Emerald Eye lead the Legion of Superheroes?

Artists...
What would that look like?

The Emerald Exhibit opens March 1st!

While you're working on your Emerald Entries, keep April in the back of your mind. Here are some ideas...

TRIOS!
Depict 3 Legion characters together. Naturally, Triad/Triplicate Girl will be an obvious choice. But there are other trios to consider...
The Founders; LL, SG and Cos
The Powerhouses; Superboy, Mon-El and Ultra Boy
The Blonde Bombshells; Supergirl, Andromeda and Thunder
The Luck Lords
Starfinger with Starlight and Starbright
There must be many more...

VERSUS!
Lightning Lad versus Lightning Lord
Saturn Girl versus Esper Lass
Cosmic Boy versus Magno Lad
Brainiac 5 versus Tharok
etc etc... please come up with some interesting rivalries.

LIGHT LASS!
Let's put the spotlight on Ayla!

There're my three....

List your own nominees, or vote for something from this selection!

I really like the 'toonverse...but I ain't gonna vote until more ideas get tossed out here.

Legionnaires and their arch enemies!
Who would that be?

Roxxas - Element lad
Lightning Lad - Lightning Lord
Sunboy - Dr. Regulus
Colossal Boy - Tarik the Mute (?)
Karate Kid - Nemesis Kid
and many more! (I think)

I got so escited to see Mordru in the cartoon that I instantly thought it would be seriously cool to see a thread here covering all the incarnations of the tyrant of the Sorceror's World.

A family thread! Parents and siblings!

A Light Speed Vanguard thread?

Or with the newly recreated Wanderers it might be really cool to see them here too.

So many ideas, I wish I could draw!

Ooh, like those comics where Kulan Gath turns the entire world into a Conan-esque fantasy world, with the Avengers re-envisioned as medieval-style knights and sorcerers!

Element Lad as an ageless and enigmatic philosopher-Alchemist, the White Witch with her bubbling cauldon of spells, the Dreaming Delphic, pulling prophecies from the ether, Xanthu's Champion Sir Thomas Kallor matching steel against the Emerald Dragon of Rimbor, the sinister Jo Nah...

I Like all of the ideas proposed so I think my top three would be:

1) Versus! - Legionnaires v. their arch enemy or evil counterpart

2) Legion of Mythical Heroes - I think I could possibly even pull something off for this one [Big Grin]

3) Triptic - Trios of any sort (i.e. could be 3 sibs as in Garth, Ayla, & Mekt; a love triangle; the 3 Founders; the 3 powerhouses or blond bomshells; the three lovely ladies of white ~ Nura, Mysa, & Jeckie, etc)

or for something really wacky in honor of April Fools with a slight nod to Barry Kitson....

Create a Marvel version of the LSH, called "The Champions of the 31st Century" in which Cyclops becomes Wildfire; Colossus becomes Ferro Lad; Wanda becomes Mysa; etc

Deathbird, the winged Shi'ar huntress who 'adventures' under the name of the Star of the Dawn.

A renegade Kree Captain named Thom Kha'llor.

A Rigellian Recorder unit named Brainiac 5.

Millenia-old Titanian Eternal, Mon-El, in his trademark blue and red suit.

Tinya, Space Phantom princess of the royal line of Immortus.

Just because I've been in a tallying sort of mood lately, I couldn't help but count up the votes here.

Yellow Kid, I did count your comments as votes/nominations.

Set, you commented on a couple of different topics, so I counted your comments as a vote for each topic.

This is not science, it is art, so nothing I now post has to be anything even close to a final decision. Plus, I always feel a little more comfortable when MEL is the one making the decisions here at the MoLA.

Plus, there's still plenty of time until April.

Okay, this is what I got...

VERSUS! (7 votes)
Legion characters battling against their enemies. This could be their arch nemesis or anyone, really. It could be one on one or groups on groups.

MYTHICAL HEROES! (5 votes)
Legion characters as gods and godesses.

TRIOS! (4 votes)
Three Legion characters at a time. There should be some reason for them being grouped together, like the Founders, Triplicate Girl, love triangles, power similarities, family bond, etc.

CARTOON UNIVERSE (2 votes)

MARVEL LEGION (2 votes)

One vote for each of the following:
LIGHT LASS
MATTER EATER LAD
MORDRU
FAMILIES
LIGHT SPEED VANGUARD
WANDERERS (current version)

Mythical. Growing up I had two passions. One was the Legion and the other was Greek mythology. It would be fun to see the two merge. Sun Boy as Helios? Shadow Lass as Selene? Lightning Lad as Zeus? Dream Girl as Aphrodite?

(Pls, don't count this post too as a vote).

That would be nice Ram Boy. [Smile]
(I can't imagine what Dr. Gym'll would look like as Asclepius the god of medicine, though). [Big Grin]
But as a Greek I'm kinda used to all those myths, so I'd prefer other mythical personalities too.

I'd love to see, lemme think now....

Lightning Lad as Thor (not *that* Thor),
Shadow Kid as Krishna,
Colossal Boy as a nordic giant,
Lightning Lass as Saule, the Lithuanian goddess of the sun,
Dream Boy as Menuo, the Lithuanian moon god,
Dream Girl...ok Nura would have to be a Delphi Oracle, the Pythia.
Shrinking Violet as a Lady of Faery.
Cham...Cham could be Proteus. He's a metamorphic god.
White Witch. So many possibilites. Even the Lady of the Lake of Arthurian legend.
Brainiac 5. Any blacksmith god/hero will do.
Shadow Lass as Nuit, the Egyptian goddess of the night.
Phantom Girl as a Japanese "Yuki-onna" a snow spirit.(Come to think of it Mysa does look like a snow spirit, too!)
Timber Wolf as Percival of Arthurian Legend also, etc.

Well, you get the idea. [Big Grin]

Dain I love some of those ideas. In particular Colossal Boy as a Norse giant and White Witch as Lady of the Lake (really NEAT). I just used the Greeks as an example as they are my favorites. But at one point or another I've studied most of the mythologies of ancient Europe (outside of Europe? Not so much, with the exception of Egyptian and Babylonian). But if my math is correct (and in my case that's a BIG if), we still need a couple more votes in the mythology column or the whole point is moot. I hope it happens as the Legion really lends itself to this idea.

Posted by Dain on :

Heheheh. If my math is correct (and that's also a big if) it's 7-7. And yes, the Legion *does* lend itself to the idea.
I loved the "Arthurian" annual and even the "Oz" one, years ago. I study all kinds of myths. I find it very very entertaining and useful in my writing. [Smile]

(Just thought of something more. How about Grimbor as Hephaistos, the blacksmith god, Charma as the unfaithful Aphrodite, wife of Hephaistus. Add a very masculine, dashing Legionnaire as Ares, and there's the myth of Hephaistos, Aphrodite and Ares, Legion of SuperHeroes-style). [Wink]

Not necessarily moot. If the votes aren't there for April then I suggest you campaign for it in May.
[Big Grin]

I say it looks like we'll be seeing some wonderful art and stories for several months to come.

...hhhhhmmmm...

I don't write a lot of fanfic but I just may have to do a piece for the Legion of the Gods

Posted by Dain on :

I'm not much of an artist really, but I'll try to do a White Witch piece and maybe a couple more "mythical Legion" ones.

Posted by Set on :

Dreamy, Mysa and Imra as the Norns (or Fates) would be awesome.

Spider-Girl as a Hindu goddess, with her many 'arms' of hair replacing the extra pairs of arms that Hindu statues of Kali / etc often have would also rock hard.

Colossal Boy as Atlas, bearing the world on his shoulders.

Sun Boy as Apollo.

Lightning Lad and Light Lass as Frey and Freya.

Brainiac 5 in a blacksmith's apron, over some high-tech 'forge' with some undefinable hammer-shaped high-tech doohickey in hand, 'forging' a bolt of lightning, a la Hephaestus crafting the thunderbolts of Zeus. (Ooh! Better idea, Brainy as Giobniu, forging Nuada's silver hand for the maimed king, with the role of Nuada being played by a one-armed Lightning Lad!)

Ultra Boy as Herakles, wrestling the Nemean Lion!

Jason & the Argonauts, replaced by the Legionnaires! The Quest for the Golden Fleece replaced by the battle against the Sun-Eater!

Man, I love this idea. Then again, I'm fickle, I love most of the ideas...

Oooh, wonderful ideas Set!
Spider-Girl as a Hindu goddess is ingenious! I love Sussa and would have liked to include her in my suggestions above but could think of nothing that fit.
Well, except for Arachne (the mortal weaver who offended Athena by claiming she's a better weaver and was punished by being turned into a spider blah-blah) but that's a bit obvious and definitely not in character with Sussa. I'm sure Sussa wouldn't have accepted her punishment without a fight first. [LOL]

Love all the interest this month! Unfortunately it's also a bit muddled because some folks are commenting, suggesting and not voting, or voting for more than their top 3. The MLA only counts votes in the voting thread, and only the first 3 votes from any given voter. Yellow Kid, you said you weren't going to vote yet but we need to call the vote so I've taken your first three. Set, I'm not sure if your comments are votes or just suggestions? Since there are three, I'm counting them as votes. With that in mind it looks like we have a very narrow victory for the Versus idea.

8 Versus
7 Legion of Mythical Heroes
5 Trios
Light Lass
Cartoonverse
Matter-Eater Lad
Marvel LSH
Mordu
Family

There's so much interest in 'mythical heroes' that I'm highly encouraging the mythical heroes supporters to start voting for it for the May update. May voting starts here!

Yup. It's "Legion of Myth" in May, for me! [Smile]

I researched the Yuki-onna myth (literally Snow Woman) in wiki, and jotted down a few ideas on a "Japanese" story featuring Mysa and Blok (there's also an old hag who is sometimes confused with the good-evil Yuki-onna). I'd love to draw Mysa in a strange looking kimono! [Big Grin]

(Uh, this IS the correct thread to vote and comment, right? I'm still a bit overwhelmed by the immensity of this forum, so I may post in the wrong topic occasionally, or be a bit off-topic. Sorry about that. Just tell me if it's a no-no!) [Smile]

Another vote for Mythic May.

Between the thunder and lightning motif, the 'king of the gods' thing and the silver arm, Lightning Lad could stand in for Thor, Zeus or Nuada Airgitlamh (Celtic lore / Tuathe De), depending on where the author wants to go!

Dawnstar as Nike, the goddess also known as 'winged victory?'

Nox, goddess of the night, aka, Shadow Lass.

Ares, god of war and savagry in battle, aka Timber Wolf.

Apollo, the high-flying sun-god, aka Sun Boy.

And that's just the easy ones, the Greek pantheons. Tying a group of time-lost Legionnaires to the Egyptian, Aztec, Norse, Celtic, etc. pantheons would be even crazier!

Since I happen to have an entire Legacy team of Legion offspring written up, I'll vote for that one!

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

We need more votes for the July 1st gallery!

Posted by Mystery Lad on :

I started a thread called Legion-heirs back on the old, old DC boards... unfortunately I didn't save it and I've often wished I could go back and read it.

So I'll vote for the LSH offspring. Though I *love* the idea of LSH pets, too.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I'll go Legion offspring as well.

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

Mmmkay so the July 1st votes are in (man I can't believe it's almost July!):
4 Legion of Super-Offspring
2 Legion 'toonverse
2 Legionnaire's Pets

Start the AUGUST VOTE!!!

Posted by lm8 on :

The mention of the topic of Legion Pets got me wondering what type of pets would work well with the Legion and then got me started on writing a Legion of Super-Heroes/Krypto the Superdog crossover story. Now if I can only get it finished. I think the Legion Pets is an interesting topic for August, but I'd still like to cast my vote for the cartoon version of Legion for August. I'd really like to read some more stories in that universe.

By the way, if anyone has any recommendations of where to find other cartoon Legion stories on the Internet, I'd love to hear about them.

Posted by Monkey Eater Lad on :

My votes:
Legion toonverse
Starfinger
Family - Legionnaires and their relatives

Posted by Star Boy on :

I like the Legion toonverse idea (if by that you mean Legionnaires in a more cartoony style as opposed to the new TV show)...

But I also will add:

Switcheroo Legion (Switch the powers of one Legionnaire to another one! No Jarths please. [Wink] )

and...

Legion Slumber Party!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I like Wayne's idea of depicting the Legion in cartoony styles, not just like the tv show. I mean, the tv show could be one style used, but let's go nuts! I'd like to color LL's Smurf Legion and submit it. I also have that PowerPuff Girls Legion picture I colored....

MEL, do you mind if I start the thread?

Oh dear... Does that mean I should drag out the South Park Legionnaires again? [Wink]

I thought about that... do you have the time to put them all together in the mother of all South Park Legion Group Shots?

Ohhhh Sketchyyyy!

thanks for starting the new thread, i've been busy with a new job and other assorted crazinesses. let's see, my votes for SEPTEMBER 1st:
- REJECTED Legion applicants
- Matter-Eater Lad
- DEAD Legionnaires!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I'm still thinking about my choice for Sept...

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Uh oh! We're running out of August!

I vote for REJECTS. Lots of characters to choose from.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

The Rejects have 2 votes.
Matter Eater Lad has 1.
Dead Legionnaires have 1.

Any more votes before Saturday (the first)?

Posted by Star Boy on :

Holy frejoles! August is almost gone, and our votes are low...

I'll add:

Legion of Marvel Heroes (Marvel Heroes cast as new Legionnaires)

Legion Rejects (As others have put forward above)

Legion Switcheroo (Switch Legionnaires and their powers)

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Well, 3 of us like the Rejects idea...

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I've called it! Please contribute to the REJECT ROOM!

Also, start thinking of what October's Exhibit should be....

One of my ideas in the past was to have more than one theme each month, so if you have a theme you wanted to see happen in October, I could second it, creating a tie. Then, there'd be two themes.

That is.... unless a whole bunch of voters come along and alter the course of the process....

OCTOBER IS MONSTER MONTH!!!!

So come on Dr. Funkenstein, start creating your monster so it'll be ready by 10/01/07.

Posted by Star Boy on :

Hey everyone!

Have a look here for some great ideas for this month's topic!

As well as the classic Legion monsters like Lightning Beasts and Space Whales, have a think about Legionnaires as monsters!
Perhaps Timber Wolf as Brin the Wolf-Man?
Or that classic flick "The Attack of the 50-Foot Boy"?
Or maybe a tale of the perils of the Village of the Damned, where all the inhabitants are blonde and display the Mark of Saturn?
What about the chilling tale of Dr Doxenstein and his artificial creation, the C.O.M.P.U.T.E.R.?

There... that oughta get you started. [Smile]
You have just 2 weeks! Go! Do! [Big Grin]

Monster month sounds good to me (I know I'm always late on this stuff). I promise to post a limerick or poem!

I give you both full permission to yell at me in the shout box from now on to remind me to post something in the galleries! [Smile]

The Incredible Shrinking Violet and her terrifying adventures in the ant kingdom!

Tasmia Mallor, Mistress of the Dark! (Okay, Elvira isn't a monster, but if Tasmia is dressed up in Vampirella's costume and has fangs, that should count!)

Phantom Girl, the Ghost of Legion's Past!

Ferro Lad, the Iron Golem!

For November
- Light(ning) Lass
- Robots! (as a companion to the beasties gallery - either robots that have appeared or Legionnaires as robots)

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I second whatever DrakeB3004 wants to do!

Posted by DrakeB3004 on :

Since I've only proposed two for November, here's my third:
-- Legion of America! Inspired by the Captain America redesign, depict the Legion as freedom loving, apple-pie eating patriots! Red, white and blue a must!

Long Live America!!

Posted by Mystery Lad on :

I have an idea for a gallery, but I like the LEGION OF AMERICA idea too much-- so I'll nominate it next month, or maybe Jan- if a holiday theme crops up.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Well, it's pretty clear that LEGION OF AMERICA has received the most interest, so get your submissions ready for November 1st!

I know November just got started (and the stuff that's there is really great) but for December: how about the Legion from the Watchman Universe. Just a thought.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Am I the only comic book reader who never read Watchmen? If this topic is chosen, I'll have to seek out the TPB and buy it. I've long wanted to.

Posted by DrakeB3004 on :

I'm not sure what that means. Is that like "what if the Watchmen were Legionnaires?" Otherwise it seems like you can say any redesign is from the Watchmen universe.

Posted by Language Arts Lad on :

i don't know either, it just popped into my head. Y'know i take it back. It would be much to dark. How about Pirate legionnaires!

Posted by Dain on :

Hey, I like Pirate Legionnaires! Lots of room for interesting stuff!

Posted by Set on :

Pirates *and* Ninja!

Jo would totally be a pirate (of space!), but Tinya's a ninja princess! Can these whacky kids work it out, or is it Romeo and Juliet for the 31st century?

Since it's mid November, I think we should call it! Let's have a double themed December:

Legion of Ninja!

Pirate Legion!

ARRR!!!

Personally, I can already envision the pirate version of many of the Legionnaires. Ninja... I'm gonna need to do some research.

I'm all for Ayla - I've nominated her once or twice already.

Posted by Kent Shakespeare on :

I'd contribute something for Ayla, if I figure out a place to host images. I have something for this month, too, but have to get it scanned/hosted. Can anyone recommend a good place to host artwork?

Yeah, Drake, I basically went back and looked at nominees from the past that haven't made it yet.

Since it's mid December already, and we have 3 votes for Ayla...

I'm calling it!

January is "Ayla Ranzz, A Retrospective" month!

Start prepping your works!

Okay, now start thinking of the theme for February. We already have a Valentine's exhibit, so we need a fresh idea.

Posted by Language Arts Lad on :

Black (Future) History Month-

Jacques, Danielle, Jenni, Tyroc, James, this new Thom, what was his name... Gear

oh, and/or if it isn't too much over the edge, Black versions of other team members

Posted by Kent Shakespeare on :

Excellent idea, LAL!

Posted by Mystery Lad on :

Hmmm... how about in honor of the Valentine's Day Massacre, we feature art and stories with the LSH as gangsters, molls and G-Men?

I expect to have Ayla art ready tomorrow or by Monday at the latest. It looks like a Mod usually starts it off? If no one else does, I'll start one when I'm ready, but I'll need someone else to highlight it.

Ayla month is started and highlighted. Looking forward to more submissions.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Black History Month has received the most attention so far. Language Arts Lad and Lone Wolf Legionnaire have listed some excellent choices for which characters to include.

The Valentine's Day Massacre has gotten some interest, too.

Lately, I've been making the call for these exhibits around the middle of the month, so we have plenty of time before a decision, if there are any other ideas or any more votes for either of the current nominees for themes.

The thing is, I don't understand the Ferro Lad and Soljer suggestions. I'll look at my copy of the story he appeared in.

I'm pretty sure there were more black characters that appeared in Jeff Moy stories, so I'll dig into that, too.

This theme prompted me to do some research. I actually didn't know much about Black History Month, so I thank those of you who elected it. Legion World is educational!

Here's a website that I found helpful:

Please begin thinking about themes for March!

Posted by Lone Wolf Legionnaire on :

Jim Shooter's original version of Ferro Lad was for him to be black, the editor said no,so Shooter killed the character off.
And Mike Grell drew Soljer as a black man but the colorist made him into a white guy.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I didn't know those stories. Thank you. In their own way, they are examples of why Black History Month was created.

Posted by Mystery Lad on :

I have one! I'd thought of this to tie in with the Oscars, but they're being held in late February rather than March again this year. But still--

-- Legion characters as stars, directors, costume designers, etc. of a MGM-style movie studio (Legion Superior Holofilms?).

-- RJ Brande as a mogul like LB Mayer
-- Salu Digby as a miniature set designer/builder
-- Querl Dox as a SFX creator run amok
-- Zoe Saugin (sp?) as a whirlwind costume designer extraordinaire with a staff of Athramites

etc.

Posted by Language Arts Lad on :

interesting!

Posted by Kent Shakespeare on :

I was going to suggest an Irish theme... but the Oscars has potential.

But between a lack of blockbuster nominees and the writer's strike, which might further dim this year's celebration, Oscar might make a better holdover for 2009?

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Correct me if I'm over simplifying, but it seems we have:

2 votes for Movie Studio Legion
1 vote for Irish Legion

I tend to vote for the majority, but let's wait til the end of the week....

Posted by DrakeB3004 on :

I'll vote for Movie Legion if that allows for Legionnaires cast in famous movie roles!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Actually, I was thinking along the same lines. I like the idea of a more general Hollywood theme. In my mind, I'm thinking of the obvious Legionnaires as famous actors... Dream Girl as Marilyn Monroe, Jo or Dirk as James Dean, etc.

Unless there's any objection, let's go with it!
MOVIE LEGION FOR MARCH!

aaaaaaaaand.....ACTION!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Kinda random, but I'd like to nominate Star Boy for April's subject. He's had a few different looks; his Adventure Era costume, his Cockrum costume, his Giffen bearded look, his Zero Hour look, his Batball Coach look, his Reboot look, his current look and his similar Toon look, his Starman JSA look.

Posted by Language Arts Lad on :

I'd second that.

Posted by Set on :

After reading Fat Cramer's Wildstorm Legion idea, I'd like to throw in a vote for that.

It could be cool to see a Liefield/Lee/Silvestri/etc. take on our favorite team.

The classic Authority cover, only with Ayla in place of Jenny Whatever-her-name-was, Sun Boy or old-school (pre-beard) Star Boy as Apollo, Timber Wolf or Karate Kid as Midnighter, Dawmstar as the one-with-wings, etc. for instance, could be fun. Instead of the Bleedship thing in the background, a Legion Cruiser could serve as hovering backdrop.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

So, that'd be 2 votes for Star Boy, one vote for Wildstorm Legion.

Not a lot of activity at the Movie Exhibit! Does anyone think we need an intervention?

Posted by DrakeB3004 on :

How about a gallery for the current Action Comics Legion?

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Hmmm...

Wildstorm
Star Boy
current Action Comics Legion

All great themes. Now, how best to make them happen?

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Okay, I think I have it.

Please note....

The current March exhibit, Movie Legion, is halfway through it's stay, and we only have 2 submissions. I would like to call for Star Boy entries to be added to this month's gallery.

Please feel free to add older Star Boy pieces as well as new ones. Lots of Star Boy looks and eras to play with.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

APRIL IS LEGIONS OF LEGIONS MONTH!!!!

More specifically, please submit pieces (various mediums are welcome) of the Legion currently seen in Action Comics.

ALSO

Please submit your pieces of the Legion as if they presented by Wildstorm comics. Please see Set's post above for ideas, as well as Fat Cramer's thread on the Legion board. (I know I still need to get references.)

Writers, we haven't heard from you in a while! Let's hear it!

Artists, get those cross hatching strokes warmed up!

As a matter of fact, I am currently entered in a Project Runway style competition at CBR. It's called CBRunway. The moderator posts the challenge and we designers create. I must thank Titan Lad for mentioning the contest here at LW!

So far, we have had to create a comic book superhero based on ourselves. Mine was called "The Ambassador." I'll post the sketch sometime soon. I made the cut.

The current challenge is to design a character based on the typical Rob Liefield 90's style. Voting is now happening. My character's name is MANICURE. She has super long sharp invulnerable claws. I'll post the sketch soon.

My point (besides self promotion!) is that the Liefeldian designs totally made me think about the Wildstorm Legion theme coming up. I feel like I'll be pretty darn ready for that when the time comes! I think it'll be fun.

I still haven't picked up the most recent copy of Action comics, because the CBS didn't include it in my box order. Now I have to go to some other shop and hunt for it! But I am looking forward to drawing that Legion. It'll be all new for me.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

My vote for the May theme comes from the Legion board....

Legion Pajamas!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Let's see those Action Legion submissions! Paging Jorge!

Also, any Wildstorm Legion stories ready? Set?

I have a couple sketches to submit. Still need to scan them.

Anyone want to second pajamas? Any other ideas for May?

At least the gallery will still be around. You can add to it whenever you'd like.

I haven't gone to pick up the final episode of the Action run yet. I suppose I've been waiting to do that before I begin sketching those characters. Meanwhile, I have a Liefeld-ish looking sketch of The Founders done, but....

(I knew that, btw, but Liefeld did kinda sorta make me think of Lee and the Wildstorm gang.)

Any nominations for the May gallery exhibit?

Posted by Eryk Dumaka Ester on :

I'll nominate the Composite Superman/Composite Legionnaire/Composite Man, etc.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Hey, that's all it'll take this month! May is Composite Month!

Posted by Future on :

For a June nomination, how about something with the Espionage Squad? With the exception of Vi, I don't think a lot of those Legionnaires have gotten gallery focus yet.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Great suggestion!

Posted by DrakeB3004 on :

Who exactly has been in the espionage squad? I feel like there has been the odd instance where the lineup may have included some Legionnaires not normally thought of as being part of the ES.

Posted by Future on :

The preboot membership was Chameleon Boy, Shrinking Violet, Phantom Girl, and Invisible Kid (either one). I believe Saturn Girl and Triplicate Girl/Duo Damsel were members as well. Dawnstar aided the Espionage Squad later in Levitz's run, but I don't believe she was counted as a member.

Postboot, the membership was Invisible Kid, Chameleon, Triad, Apparition, Violet, and Sensor.

And it looks like the newest, unofficial incarnation is Invisible Kid, Triplicate Girl, Phantom Girl, and Karate Kid with Brainy at the helm.

Posted by Eryk Dumaka Ester on :

Preboot, at least, there were the permanent members, with Cham as the permanent leader, but any Legionnaire could be called upon to serve on the squad as needs required. I believe the idea of a permanent membership wasn't actually established until Levitz's run.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I know they have an entry in Who's Who in the Legion, so I intended on using that as ref for whatever I do for the exhibit.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Obviously, the Espionage Squad is the leader for June theme. Any other votes for it or other nominations?

maybe a genderbending thing? unlessi t's already been done! in the sketchbook i made, i'm putting sketches for the ones that preordered and one person requested a picture of the a couple legionnaires as the other gender and it's pretty interesting to do. i guess in ayla and garth's case you'd just draw the other!

hmm.... I guess all of my submissions to that exhibit are gone now... old image host. I recall my Laurent Gand image was too risque. There were thong issues. [Smile]

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

YK, I was thinking that we had an amalgam exhibit, os I looked for it and found that there wasn't one. Then I remembered that there was an amalgam theme for my Holo Model competition. That challenge is going to be called "Emerald Eyeful Ethel's Amazing Amalgams." The cast is chosen, and the contest is in production. Just kinda on hold at the moment.

Maybe Holo Modles and the MoLA should combine forces...amalgamize... in July?

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

...no response...

Well, at least YK's nomination for amalgams as the july theme still stands.

Any other nominations, votes?

Posted by DrakeB3004 on :

Amalgams sound cool. So I guess it's about combining/fusing a Legionnaire with any non-Legionnaire?

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I figured any amalgamization would count. It's pretty similar to the composite exhibit, really.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Speaking of which, I did do a sketch or 2 for that exhibit, but they weren't all that interesting. Also, I'm surprised by the lack of interest in the Espionage exhibit. Do we need to take any action?

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

The Espionage Squad needs to be exposed! I'm making the executive decision to put...

PHANTOM GIRL

out front, as the poster child for the rest of June!

So please, dig out your old Tinya works, or go on ahead and create some new ones!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Also, AMALGAMS shall be the theme for the July exhibit. I have my own project for this theme underway, and I hope others will contribute.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

So, any ideas for an August theme?

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I do have some amalgam artwork to add, I just need to finish off some details.

As for an August theme... what if we create works with characters whose names begin with A? Codenames or real names.

Posted by Mystery Lad on :

Or LSH characters as Olympic Athletes, coaches, fans?

Posted by Kent Shakespeare on :

or Dog Days of Summer?
I won't be a participant until September, alas.

So let's do August Olympics and Dog Days of September.

I don't know what Dog Days means, but we have over a month to figure it out.

February is the 2nd month, so a two-fer is in order!

Tenzil? My God, this is what I've been waiting for. Vital Info's time to shine!

Okay, I'll be the contrarian here and suggest a month dedicated to she who sought to replace Tenz in the LSH, Calorie Queen!

Or maybe a showdown! Winner take all!

Matter-Eater Lad VRS Calorie Queen!

That would be cool.

I don't know whether I'd have anything to contribute, though. Depends on how the eternal work search is going. (Hey, I love this place-- but that kinda' lovin' don't pay my bills...)

Okay,
Tenz 3
Tenz & Drura 2
Cal or Cal vs Tenz 1

In my mind, it just means that we should incorporate all of those ideas.

It'l be INFECTIOUS MATTER FEBRUARY!

Get started on your stories, artwork, customizations, etc.

Feb 1 is SOON!

I like the Matter-Eater Lad suggestion. I have a story idea in mind that might spark a memory for long, long, LONG time LMBPers...

*Maybe* I could work Drura into it.

I'd love to see new art featuring both those characters.

One of these days, I'd like to see artists and writers get together, but I suppose that'd be logistically very difficult.

Posted by Mystery Lad on :

Cal, too? *That's* gonna take some consideration!

Posted by MLLASH on :

I canNOT say no to Tenz, Dru OR Cal.

ALL THREE PLEASE!!!!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

At one time, I did a lil toon that featured Tenz, Drura and Cal, but it'll be fun to come up with something new that incorporates all of the above suggestions.

Posted by MLLASH on :

And there's no set rules, right... one could do something that features any combination of these characters, all 3 or just 1, right?

I remember that story you did, Sketchy... it caused a semi-sensation!

The MLLASH menage a trois! (bad time for him not to be a straight guy!)

I can feeeeeeeeeeeel the energy!

Get your creations ready folks. I'll create the new museum thread on Feb 1. Hey, let's go for record submissions. ...Now, anyone willing to dig through all the old museum threads and see what the record # of submissions was? [Big Grin]

vv, I *know* you'd love Calorie Queen and/or Infectious Lass if you knew them! I know I'd love to see your version of them... especially Infectious Lass.

I know there's an All Infectious Lass thread on the main Legion board, started by MLLASH. I'd suggest going there and doing a search. Calorie Queen may be harder to find resoure material....

True to form, I've jumped in willy-nilly. Knocked out several windows-paints today, including:

Tenzil at the beach!

Tenzil vs. Dru!

Dru and Cal: BFFs!

How Matter-Eater Lad, Infectious Lass and Calorie Queen might have looked in my & EDE's Matter-Eater Lad & The LSH! (short answer: TOO CUTE!)

Tenzil & Taryn: Sunset!

And I'm sure muc, MUCH more will follow. Hell, there's still a whole work week between now and Feb. 1!

MLLASH's 2 CENTS:

I like that the Galleries will require me to work on just X character(s). Gives me something to focus on.

Aside from some MEL:TS cover concepts in my fandango thread, I've done, like NO Tenzil or Taryn art. That shouldn't be!

Can future galleries always feature more than 1 character? More chracters to play with might = more possible submissions (I seem to remember Monkey doing 2 characters usually, now that I think of it... so never mind.)

ohhhhhh! i didn't realize drura = infectious lass! ok, infectious las shall make an appearance. i'll make something all new for this~

but i'm still lost on calorie queen. let me guess, a transvestite with an eating disorder?

Cal? Oh my no!

Do a search for Superboy and the LSH # 212, her first appearance!

She's the hot blonde lass in red imitating Drura's blue eye-makeup who whups Tenzil's ass and then gets wrapped up in a space-flagpole!!

There's not a lot. The Unofficial Guide to the DC Universe says:

# Legion of Super-Heroes Vol. 4 #10 (August 1990): "Roxxas Strikes"
# Legion of Super-Heroes Vol. 4 #11 (September 1990): "Tenzil Kem Takes a Bite Out of Crime"

I agree. People can always zone in on a specific single character, but even just having a short list can help inspire ideas.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Throughout the existance of the museum, there have been many different themes. Sometimes a solo character, sometimes more than one, sometimes groups, sometimes any Legion character molded to fit a theme, like the Ninja exhibit.

The enthusiasm for Tenzil, Cal and Drura is fantastic, so if having themes with multiple characters will inspire people to submit, then i'm all for it!

The Feb exhibit (thread)will have a page of links to all previous exhibits. The July 08 exhibit (thread) has themost up-to-date one, if anyone wants to puruse old exhibits.

Hey, look what Lash wrote in March '05, in the Chemical King/White Witch gallery:

"This may be the best gallery ever until the Matter-Eater Lad/Infectious Lass gallery comes along."

Just had to wait 2 years, 11 months!

The February exhibit is open a couple days early.
"It must have been something I ate!" A tribute to Matter Eater Lad, Calorie Queen and Infectious Lass.

Please go ahead and post your entries!

So, now that Feb is underway, it's time to think about March.

There's been some discussion about having more than one character or even theme per month. So, let's hear your ideas for the next exhibit. Which characters and/or themes should we see in March?

Posted by MLLASH on :

Shoot! I won't be able to post until Tuesday or Weds. But I can't wait to see everyone's stuff shortly!

Question! Is there a limit to submissions? I've done, like, 10 pics but I neither want to appear to be a thread-hog (nor do I want to wear anyone out with my kiddy-doodles).

I guess really these are 3 of my faves so it makes sense I would go a little nuts.

If I submit 10 things for the Fortress Lad gallery, then we can assume I need to settle down.

Oh, I'm excited... must go check it out NOW!!!

I don't believe that there's any limit to enthusiasm. Go nuts.

After all, I cluttered up the Emerald Legion month with my fanfic that ended up being so long it broke the thread... [Smile]

I've got a nomination...

The BRAINIAC LEGACY! This would include, of course, any of the different incarnations of Brainiac 5 (pre/re/threeboot). It could include the Dox's of dotLEGION. It could include crazy mother Brianiac 4. It could include the original Brainiac. It could also include Koko. It could include romances like with Supergirl and Dream Girl. It could even include Pulsar Stargrave.

Any seconds? Any other nominations for March?

What if next month, or the month after, it could be a crack pairing gallery. Any crack pairing, but no incest. Picture it...

Lightning Lad and Mandalla

Mon-El and Saturn Girl

Golden Boy and Saturn Queen

Ol-Vir and Tyr!

Posted by MLLASH on :

That's a fun idea and opens the floor to everyone. I will second it.

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

And it also gives me a chance to flaunt my crack pairing fics. Huzzah for me!

Sounds good! I hereby vow to read them and comment!

I also vow to read the rest of your Matter-Eater Lad stuff, perhaps tomorrow evening as I'm about to get offline. Cool to have you here, Sarc! Can't have enough Tenzil fans!

3 Brianiacs
2 Crack Pairings

What is the definition of a crack pairing?

Let's leave the voting open all weekend, and see the final decision on Monday.

[Confused]

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

A crack pairing is a pairing of fictional characters that is an alternative to who they're usually paired with and can be used to explore different ideas, or can be used for the sake of comedy by pairing them with unlikely people, or even having them paired up with peoplle of the same sex even though they aren't gay.

Posted by cleome on :

Based on either the Law of Averages or the rule about monkeys typing Shakespeare*, you've gotta' figure that any crack pairing you can devise will be done by somebody else at some point-- if it hasn't already been done somewhere while you weren't looking.

For that reason, I think I'll write mine out first before I google it, so I can play innocent later when I get chased down the block with tar and feathers.

With seventy-three retcons and counting, you'd think at some point that it would be impossible to write anything truly definable as crack anymore, but... (Frankly, I couldn't have thought up SG/UB in a kajillion years, but apparently somebody else could, and did. To cite just one example among many...)

[Wink]

*Or possibly both

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Thakt's what I figured. I also thought it was something like, "They must have been on crack to date that sentient!" or somesuch.

So, it's seeming like 3 to 3 for the Brainiacs and the Crack Pairings.

We can decide tomorrow.

Going against orientation isn't enough to achieve "crack"; most slash is like that. I can't actually define it, but I've seen it used to refer to

- pairing characters who never interact in canon

- random hero/villain pairings

- pairing a character and something that isn't really even a character

Someone more experienced in the fan-fiction world (and not just LSH) should be able to give more examples.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

In the interest of having plenty of material, and the fact that this was a tie (though I sorta consider Trip Kid's interest in Crack Pairings to be a vote), I think March should be:

BRAINIAC LEGACY AND/OR CRACK PAIRINGS month.

Why not?

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Why not indeed? Capital idea, old slice.

sorry to be a latecomer to the discussion.

Crack pairings seem like such a wide open topic on it's own. Specifying Brainy crack pairings make more sense, whether on its own or with Legacy.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I figure if it is a double theme - Brainiac Legacy AND Crack Pairings, the mostest cleverest submissions will be the ones that combine all of the above.

We're in a new era of lots o' material per exhibit in the Museum, so I'm glad there was basically a tie for which theme to go with.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

New idea.... what if we have new exhibits every two weeks?

I mean, this month has had some of the most enthusiastic response in a long time, but it seems to be over... right at the 2 week mark.

This could happen, of course, with the understanding that the two would share one thread.

I'm willing to maintain the schedule and voting.

Any strong opinions on the matter?

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

No argument on my end.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

So, let's give it a try!

On March 1st, it'll be BRAINIAC LEGACY.

on March 15th, it'll be CRACK PAIRINGS.

Bragging rights to those who combine where appropriate.

vv's already gotten started on her thread with a cool sketch.

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Splendid. More chances for me to warp innocent minds.

And after that, how bout Crossovers, like Brave & The Bold. Really far out superhero team-ups.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

We did have Power Team Up, where a Legionnaire teams up with a non Legionnaire with similar powers and we've had LSH + LMB and we've had LSH + JLA + JSA, so many of those characters have been showcased.

It would be nice if we could collect a list of characters requested for their Brave & the Bold Legion Edition. Any and all volunteers welcome!

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Well I already had a few ideas for some stories. Vertigo teamups.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

So, does anyone have 2 themes in mind for April?

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Gender Reversal and Slasher Films.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Gender Reversal's been done.

Slasher films.... eww...

But does anyone second this nomination?

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Well it is 3 AM and I am a hopeless insomniac, I'm just throwing ideas out.

Instead, how bout Anime Teamups?

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

We already had a Toon Legion theme as well.

What did you have in mind when you said Slasher Films?

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Well, like having the Legionnaires fight against slashers like Michael, Jason, Freddy...

Or doing dress-up as the villains...

Fighting zombies...

Legion/Army of Darkness (like, an idea I mentioned with someone on DA, what if Lightning Lad's robo arm came to life like in Evil Dead. Dealing with Robo Deadite Legionnaires)

And pin-ups of the girls as those "final girls" that always manage to survive at the end.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Hmmm... we did have a Hollywood/Movies theme. The Slasher Film ideas would fit within that theme.

ZOMBIES! We haven't done zombies yet! I'd LOVE to participate in that one! How 'bout Zombie Legion instead of the Legion fighting zombies?

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Why are you sitting around typing about it? Andale, andale!

(Oh, and why is it that some pictures don't appear anymore?)

Posted by MLLASH on :

Zombie Legion!! And Sarc, are you looking at older or newer threads? Someof the older stuff has faded into oblivion I think...

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Well, these themes are for April...

Some of the pictures from old threads don't appear for many reasons...
1.The person might have removed them.
2.The host site might have gone out of commission. 3.Other.

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Older, yeah.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Sarc, I don't see any links to any Brainiac Legacy fanfics by you.

I'm just sayin'.... [Hmmm?]

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

I was wondering why some of the stuff in the holomodels and the museum arts had disappeared. I'm only asking now when the bottom pic of the Legion of Legions thing wouldn't show. I'm only saying cuz I was wondering what some of the stuff was.

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

I have a Brainy fic. I don't use him much unless he's in the others. Hold on, I'll post it. Believe me, I want to. It just wouldn't be a Brainiac thread unless it involves insane robots and cyborg gophers.

Actually, I never removed any of the holo model stuff. I noticed that some of the images I have hosted at imageshack don't show up. It's annoying... but uh, it's free, so what can I say?

I'll read that story soon. I'm gonna log off. But, Sarc, you inspired me to do a Zombie Dream Girl sketch! Now I have to save it til next month.

Yeah. You have a point.

Keep the Brainy submissions coming, and remember, we'll switch to Crack Pairings on about the 14th of this month!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

... and it's CRACK PAIRINGS time!

Have fun you crazy, cracky pairs!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Also, please make note of Sarcasm Kid's great ideas which fit into past Museum Exhibits - Brave and Bold, Slasher Films, Army of Darkness, etc.

For April, the Legion of Zombies will be a fun, scary exhibit. Since there was no other new theme nominated, I shall appoint one.... CHAMELEON BOY!

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Oh, wait. Here's a suggestion I just thought of. I don't know if it'll fit into any other exhibit, but...

DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

We had a Disco Legion exhibit, but the general idea of a DANCE theme has not been done as a museum exhibit. DDR could be part of that.

So far, it's our first nomination for May, which I'll gladly second.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Drake did an awesome roller boogie Ayla....

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Well, I just like throwing these ideas out, so, you did a Disco Legion, ever thought of a punk rock legion, or hell, a grunge legion?

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Oh, and just one more. L.E.G.I.O.N. did it, so why not...

Legion 90210?

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

How about something like a "variety of body-shapes" Legion? Either featuring existing characters that don't fit the classic "stunningly beautiful" comic book character mold (Chuck, for example), as well as redesigns of other Legionnaires in a variety of shapes (such as 5 foot tall, slightly pudgy, kicknass lass!).

Maybe modify the idea a bit to allow writers to do something with it as well.

Posted by MLLASH on :

So is ZOMBIES half the theme for April? I was excited and practiced a bit today, I did a Saturn Girl's ROTTING CORPSE, Luornu, Garth and a cute pic of my "Ultimate" Night Girl that I love!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Yep! It's coming incredibly soon.

Ain't no April Fools here! Just April Living Dead!

Have some fun with it!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

After reviewing the recent posts here, it would seem our 2 themes for May will be:

DANCE
For dance - be creative. Show or write about Legion characters getting dressed up in all sorts of genre's - punk, grunge, hip hop, etc. For that matter, they may be going to a formal ball. They might just be going out for some Super DDR .... of Space!

VARIETY OF BODY TYPES
Try and express how the Legion characters deal with looking different than they normally do. What if they all weren't tall and muscular?

Have fun!

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

You mean, for the Variety one, like...

*Colossal Boy being much more shorter when he's not using his powers, his height almost boarding on midget proportions?
*Garth being a bit husky, what with the stereotypes they have of farm boys.
*Jeckie being a bit rounder, considering she's a princess and used to being spoiled.
*Nura looking thinner than she does, since her power basically means she has to sleep most of the time.
*Lyle and Thom looking more like geeks.
*Brin having a more wolf life appearance, like an extended jaw and a dog nose.

Stuff like that?

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Sorry for the delayed response.

Yes, all of the above ideas are perfect for the exhibit. I'd be interested to read about how they feel about the way they look. Maybe they'd get less respect? Maybe it wouldn't matter at all?

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Well if people in the future don't have a problem with, say, a mound of green slime surrounded by floating eyeballs practicing law (I believe that was Cham's lawyer during the GD saga), I don't think they'd have much of a problem with the ones above.

Oh, and...

*What if Cham looked like an ACTUAL chameleon?
*Chuck actually looking like a ball with arms, legs, and a head.

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

And then there would be...

*Brainy, while not looking like a geek, is thin and lanky, considering he has to work in a lab. And he should be pale.
*Dirk should be perpetually tanned since he has radiant powers.
*Spider Girl should have more traits like a spider rather than just her hair. Like a seductive glane and long, manicured fingers.
*Tenzil should have REALLY big teeth since he can bite through anything. I mean, his symbol IS a tooth.

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Oh, and one more thing.

What if Imra had like a big head, because she's an alien telepath. With veins that throb and that humming sound. Or maybe a mark on her throat because she can't speak.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Hey Sarc,
Those are all great ideas... now write 'em up and get ready to post 'em next month.

Meanwhile, it's CHAMELEON BOY time in the exhibit thread! Have some fun with it!

Thanks. Now, I'm just going to keep churning ideas out for new exhibits, I just like to. I know there was an exhibit for Persuader, but how about "The Man (And Woman) Behind The Mask". MASKED LEGION

and

I'm in on both! Plenty of time before June, though, so if anyone has any other nominations or votes, please don't be shy.

And the fathers we have are Clark, Garth, R.J., Rokk, Mar Londo, Dirk's Dad, I believe one of the Leland McCauleys had a kid, right? Grimbor, Evillo, Mordru, Hunter I, Rond, Universo, Don Allen, XS' Dad, I can't think of anymore.

We've met several of the Legionnaires'dads. I know I'll need to look them up.

Oh, I forgot Zor and Jor. How could I forget the ones responsible for two of the most important Legionnaires?

How soon before "Dance" starts?

May 1

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Really? That's when that Final Crisis spin-off starts? Ah, so when does "Dance" start as an exhibit. ;p

(I know it's stupid, I couldn't resist)

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Okay, now I have an honest-to-God question concerning Dance.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Hey,
Sorry the May exhibit is not open yet. I'm at work and don't have much time. When I get home tonight, I'll get it going.

Hang onto those submissions!

Posted by cleome on :

Well, I'll just get out my mandolin and play that old Hooters (the band, you filthy dogs) riff until you get back, Sketchy.

[Wink]

No worries.

And I will be right here holding my topless Mon/Shady fic hostage while you work on that pic. Careful though, my trigger finger's twitchy. Especially with those lead bullets.

;p

Oh God I hope that doersn't banned from here.

Oh yeah -- we need July exhibit ideas!

Theena

and

Blue Sentients

Hmmm... no response...

Well, we'll go with these themes for July. If there is little or no interest in the gallery, we'll go on hiatus again.

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

How about...

A Legion in a post-apocalyptic future?

Legion of Wonderland?

Don't know if I mentioned this one already but, steampunk Legion?

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Sarc, I love ALL of those ideas!

So, I'll back out of my above comment and make a request to group....

Here is the list of theme nominations for this July:

Theena
Blue Sentients
Post-Apocalyptic Legion
Legion of Wonderland
Steampunk Legion

Please second 2 of the themes from this list by June 20th.

If we do not receive the necessary interest in the nominations, I feel we should close the museum. No hard feelings, just being honest.

Huh, I can't believe how easy this is.

Talkshow Legion.

Morning News Legion.

Freakshow Legion.

Animal Hybrid Legion.

Japanese Mecha Legion.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

There are no FATHER submissions in the current museum exhibit and no seconds to the nominations for July, so it is time for the Museum of Legion Arts to close for the season.

I'll leave the June exhibit stickied until the end of the month, and I'll leave the discussion thread stickied.

If we get another surge of interest, we'll re-open.

I appreciate your efforts in keeping the Museum running all this time Sketch - sorry I haven't had the time to contribute much this past year but it was fun [Smile]

Thanks Drake. The Museum has its busy times and less busy times. Your contributions over the years have been fantastic, no less.

A break is a good thing. It'll make the next re-opening even more exciting.

So, any renewed interest in re-opening the MoLA?

If so, we can add another annex!

I think the time may be ripe.

Posted by DrakeB3004 on :

Hmm, my Legion-sense is tingling!

Posted by Candle on :

I'm sorry, but what does 'another annex' mean?

Whatever it is, if that means Drake will be posting his work again, plus Sketch and LLASH doing more drawings, I vote YES!!!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

The "main" museum ran consecutively every month from its beginning until July '08. It closed after that exhibit due to lack of interest. In Jan '09, the MoLA re-opened with a new exhibit, in what I call The Annex. The Directory for all of the exhibits are one page 1 of this thread.

So, I'd be happy to take the job of curator again, as there clearly seems to be interest. My general request is that we get at least a few or even a couple of people to vote on what the theme should be. Also, in the Annex, we began having 2 different themes per month. We'll have to see if this new wing of the place will need that or something different.

So, what theme would people like?

Sarcasm Kid has listed several in the past, as have I, so feel free to browse through this thread for ideas. Of course timely/new ideas are more than welcome.

We can start right away.

Posted by Candle on :

Okay!

I would love to contribute to something, as long as I can find something to posterize. I just can't do original works for awhile longer.
[Razz]

Sarcasm Kid is so cute when he says that he can't believe how easy it is to make suggestions!
sigh

I've had a number of series, but the one I'd maybe like to see others contribute to is the 'Different Vision' idea.
Mine was taking a manga style drawing of Dream Girl and using a model to match it.

So the idea would be to take a character, any Legion Universe character, and reconceptualize them anyway that you like, not manga exclusively, or chibis or hampsters or 'real' or ninjas or . . .

Just a thought.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Thanks, Candle.

I think based on your input and one of Sarc's previous noms, this month's tardy grand reopening of the MoLA should be....

Japanese Mecha Legion!

Here's one example, but feel free to search for more and get those robot Legionnaires done up.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mecha_Musume

(I can't wait to see what comes up!)

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Things are going GREAT in the current exhibit!!!

So, what should the next theme be?

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I vote for 2 individual characters who have not been featured in Legion comics much. Ideas?

Posted by Set on :

There are quite a few characters that have greater than normal appeal here (but aren't always considered as popular generally), such as Mekt and Drura and Tenzil, but I'm pretty sure they've already gotten plenty of BITS time.

Random ideas;

Legion parents? (Tinya's mom, Gim's folks, Threeboot Sun Boy's fanboi parents, etc.)

Hypothetical Legion kids? (Grown up Graym, various visualizations of what a daughter of Val and Jeckie or a son of Gim and Yera would turn out like.)

I wouldn't mind seeing some exploration of the other teams of the 30-31st century, such as the Heroes of Lallor, Wanderers, Uncanny Amazers (snerk) the Super-Companions and the Workforce. (Although, since there's nothing online about them, I know nothing but names of most of the later Workforce members, like Amber, Dune, Abyss and Twine.)

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Lessee Set...
Mekt can be included in the LSV exhibit. He could also be included in the Supporting Characters exhibit.

Drura and Tenzil (along with Calorie Queen) have their own exhibit.

Legion Fathers have an exhibit with no entries! But, the mom's don't have their own exhibit. Though they could also be in the Supporting Characters exhibit.

There is a Legion kids exhibit which welcomes hypothetical versions.

There's an "L" exhibit for the Heroes of Lallor and Leeta87. The other groups would be good candidates for their own exhibits.

So, I will make these your nominations:

Legion Moms

Wanderers

Uncanny Amazers

Super Companions

Workforce

Thanks!

Nice to see some submissions already. We should start to think of the theme for March!

Posted by Candle on :

I really enjoyed MLLASH's Spiffany/SC submission this month.

I have an idea for a series of Spiffany posters.
I've really just discovered the character here.
Then, I read his story (well, he was in it, anyway) and kind of liked him.

I'd certainly enjoy him being one of the themes for March.

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Hmm, I just thought of something. Has anyone ever played Kingdom Hearts?

Posted by Arachne on :

Not me. It sounded kind of fun, though.

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Actually, if no one likes that idea, how about...

Vertigo Legion?

Posted by Arachne on :

Hmm, that could be interesting.

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Well I actually wanted to suggest that 'League of Super-Teens' thing, but...

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Sarc, I wouldn't know how to illustrate any of the themes you've suggested, but that doesn't mean I don't support the ideas. I'd just need to be pointed in the right direction.

So, the nominations are:

Lester Spiffany
Kingdom Hearts
Vertigo Legion
League of Super-Teens

We'll make a group decision by mid Feb.

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Actually, this would be helpful for the Superteens thing.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Now that I've been reminded who the Superteens are, I'm thinking that they don't actually belong in the Museum as a full exhibit theme. They could be added to the "Legions of Legions" exhibit though.

I'd rather that characters from Legion canon receive full exhibits. That goes for the other nominess that I don't know anything about, like Kingdom Hearts. What is KH?

Also, I've never read a Vertigo title in my life, so I'd need to collaborate with someone else on what to do for that.

That said, Sarc, PLEASE don't let this hinder any creative ideas you have!!!! There will be a home for any of your work here at Bits, just maybe not a whole MoLA exhibit.

Okay, I feel better. Ah, the life of a museum curator! [Smile]

Meanwhile, I had the thought of there being 3 themes for March 2010, since it's the 3rd month of the year. How's that sound?

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Oh of course, I won't let it hinder me.

Sounds like one of them *has* to be Luornu Durgo related. How about 'Legionnaire Third I.D.s'? Lelith, for Lu... Legionnaire Lemon, Prince Proector, Saturn Boy, etc.

I vote Lester Spiffany, along with his sister Tiffany!

1. Spiffany and family works for me (counted already)
2. Carggites
3. Bizzaros.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Okay Patrons of Museum of Legion Arts... I think I've got it, based on the last batch of posts....

The exhibit for March 2010 shall be --

Spiffany & The Vertigo, Carggite and Bizarro Legions!

Get your submissions started!
(This ought to be pretty dang good....)

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Could someone please post some ideas about what a Vertigo Legion would be? I can handle the Spiffany's, and the Bizarros.

As for the Carggite theme, I'm thinking it's sort of like, "What would it be like if all the Legionnaires had 3 selves?"

Does that make sense?

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Vertigo = Dream Girl/Sandman, White Witch and Mordru and the Books of Magic, the upcoming Doom Patrol/Legion issue of Brave and the Bold, Death hanging out with the Legionnaires who've died, Life Lass and Quislet hanging out with Brother Power the Geek, etc...

Posted by MLLASH on :

Great Space! I may have to to a "best of Lester" run of excerpts from MEL:TS!

Posted by Candle on :

Yeah, LLASH.
That's the kind of thing I was thinking about when I suggested Spiffany.
Sketch has a bunch of stuff from his holos for Spiff, too.

Something a little easier on you guys.
Although with 3 or 4 topics the 'easier' part might have gone by the wayside!

On the other side, I see Dream Girl in a dark alley, wearing a trenchcoat and gas mask (and yet somehow still looking fabulous, with silver hair trailing down), using a combination of a sleep-gas-gun and a karate kick to beat up some fifth column nazi spies!

Other vertigo-esque concepts;
Chlorophyll Kid as the new plant elemental, communing with the parliament of Trees, including the Swamp Thing we all remember as the past plant elemental.

Perhaps even a 31st century meeting of elemental spirits, including Chlorophyll Kid, representing the Green, Chameleon Boy, representing the Red (animal kingdom), Sun Boy representing Fire, Lamprey representing Water, Blok representing Earth/Stone and Brainiac Five representing the newest 'elemental' of 'the Grey,' (Technology). Then again, perhaps the Teachers on Sorcerer's World represent the new Elementals (since there seemed to be teachers representing fire, water, air and plant)...

Tinya Wazzo, latest agent from the Metaverse, drawn using her powers similar to previous agent, Shade, the Changing Man.

The White Witch, in the role of the Phantom Stranger, mysterious advisor-to-heroes who brings portents and transports heroes around, but no longer takes an active role in the fray.

And then there's the really funky stuff.

Which Legionnaire (or Legionverse regular) works best in a Constantine role? Perhaps thought-to-be-dead Lyle Norg, manipulating things behind the scenes?

Or would best fit behind the mask of Guy Faulkes in a United Planets-turned-Orwellian-nightmare (in other words, which Legionnaire would best become V for Vendetta, in the 31st century)? Perhaps Jo, on a Rimbor-gone-jackboot? Perhaps different Legionnaires, wearing the mask on different worlds, each fighting the same personal fight to free their homeworlds from oppression, using an ancient earth mask as a symbol (and, if they fall, having the mask taken up by others, creating the illusion that 'you can't kill the truth?', perhaps having Rokk fall in the fight, to have Pol, who has spent the entire series criticizing his brother's politics, quietly taking up the mask and continuing the fight he claimed not to believe in, now that the brutality of the ruling regime has struck home?).

Well I meant, Dream Girl WITH Dream, in the Dreaming. I should've been more specific.

For April, here's a concept that's current and while beaten to death in many other forums, it might be fun to explore in the Gallery:

Legionnaires as various colored Corps members - the "Legion of Light" (?)

Posted by Candle on :

OOOOOOWWW. That sounds interesting.
We'd have to have a link to the thread that explains what the different rings mean and how they're applied/what they do, if they're different somehow.

Psyche and Quantum Queen from the Wanderers (originals) would be fun since one uses emotions and the other uses light.

The suggestion about the Dreaming would be fun and interesting, too.
We'd probably need a link to that topic, as well.

Heh, last thing I remember, everyone was being turned into an 'elemental' (a la Swamp Thing), including such unlikely fellows as Red Tornado, Aquaman, Animal Man and Firestorm.

Now the 'hot new thing' is the emotional spectrum stuff.

To an extent, Timber Wolf's power has been linked to aggression, as has Wildfire's, making them possibly suited for red rings of rage. Later interpretations of Shrinking Violence and 'hothead' Garth could also fit there.

Kinetix is an obvious contender for the orange ring of avarice.

Cosmic Boy could be considered appropriate for the green ring of willpower, or the blue ring of hope, while Imra seems well suited for the rings of compassion, love or hope (compassion or love would go better with her color-scheme, 'though!).

Projectra would make an interesting Sinestro Corps member, using her powers / ring to manifest the fears of others.

Ultra Jo, the 'Emerald Dragon,' needs to have a green ring, just because it goes with his costume. [Smile]

Brainy wouldn't have a ring at all, he'd have a tiny body and a big head, and be a 31st century Oan, in a purple jumpsuit!

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

I did something like this...

Red - Brin
Orange - Zoe
Yellow - Jeckie
Green - The Founders
Blue - Chuck
Indigo - Jan
Violet - Ayla

Posted by Set on :

And now I'm wondering if one could violently shove the three main incarnations of the Legion together and somehow connect it to Cargg.

Three universes merged, like the old Crisis on Infinite Earths, with each Legionnaire being able to occasionally split off into their three original components.

It would be most confusing for Jeckie, who would have delicate golden scales in her combined form, but be otherwise humanoid, until she triplicated and revealed two humanoid princesses and a snake-person!

Posted by Candle on :

And wouldn't Princess Prime HATE being joined with a Naga and an 'old' widow!

We could do both, Lanterns and mergerd.

Hard stuff for a group that seems to have trouble finding time to do this stuff and me, who can't download a drawing yet.
sigh

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

So, it seems "Legion of Light" will be the April theme.

Posted by Candle on :

So, I'm still not clear on all of the ring colors and what they mean -
got a hook up or a list somewhere?

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Red- Rage
Orange - Avarice
Yellow - Fear
Green - Willpower
Blue - Hope
Indigo - Compassion
Violet - Love
Black - Death
White - Life

Posted by Candle on :

[Hug]

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

But the black rings can only be worn by someone who is dead, or has come back from the dead.

Posted by Candle on :

Well, there are a few of those in the Legion, huh?!

Posted by Set on :

There's a list around here somewhere of all the Legionnaires who've died. It's pretty scary. I think Garth was up to three deaths...

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Gim is the most frequently killed, as I recall!

Posted by Candle on :

Was he killed more than in the reboot?
(And here I was thinkin I wasn't really going senile! sigh)

Does there have to be a body or remains or something?
If they do, Ferro Lad would be safe, then.

Zombies are dead, right?
And vampires.

What do you have to be to wear a white ring, just be really, really alive?
Like born again?
Maybe I could wear a white ring.
If they were real and everything.

Or. . .
Wouldn't Zardi LOVE it if Candle got a white ring?
[LOL]

Do they have a weakness?
What is it?

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Adventure Era Gim (along with pretty much the entire team) is killed during the battle with the Mask Man.

SW6 Gim is killed in End of an Era, leading to his older counterpart fading out (which may or may not be interpreted as death).

Reboot Gim is killed in battle with Dr. Regulus.

Superboy's Legion is killed by Validus.

And that's not counting various LSH #200 alt-Gim deaths.

Posted by Candle on :

Wow!
I'm amazed!
Poor Gim.

He was alive in the Superman issue where he saw everyone as adults, though!
[Smile]

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

We need a May theme. I suggest keeping it simple!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Legion of Super-Villains. That would free up the usage of a LOT of characters. Or has it been done?

Posted by Candle on :

It has.
But I was going to suggest that we might add to some of the topics already done in the past.

Legion Villians is current, too, since they're supposed to be in the past, right now.
Have we seen one, yet?
I haven't, but I don't see so well.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I recommend nominating a single villain and giving them the spotlight.

Meanwhile, my nomination for May is ....

JAN ARRAH, ELEMENT LAD AND/OR ALCHEMIST!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Jan's good.

Posted by Candle on :

He works for me.

Posted by Suncat on :

Jan's always been one of my favorites. I'll vote for him.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Jan it is!

I was thinking that adding Roxxas to this exhibit might be a good idea, too, since there was an early interest in showcasing villains.

Roxxas would technically be "on-topic" in a Jan Arrah exhibit. Shvaughn/Sean Erin too.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Sorry I was tardy in getting the Jan Arrah exhibit opened!! I hope there will be lots of kewl entries.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Kinda slow in the Arrah Era.

Also, we need a June theme.....

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Deadline for theme submissions: May 15.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Seems the MoLA is headed for another hiatus.

Posted by Candle on :

Maybe we can keep Jan for June.

My eyes have been bothering me some and that makes me kind of slow working on submissions.

But an added month may get some other's to have time to do something.
[shrug]

I went ahead and unfeatured the Jan Arrah Era exhibit.

Reminders: Exhibits can be added to at any time.

How's about Try-Outs?

Posted by Sarcasm Kid on :

Okay, here's a list of suggestions (I don't know if I mentioned some of them before):

*War: The Legionnaires reimagined as soldiers in wars. Civil, Revolutionary, Vietnam, WW I and I, or outer space.
*Who Again?: The most forgotten of Legion characters.
*Xera: The princess of Manna-5.
*Christmas in July (Or August): An attempt at holiday stories to beat the heat. In all honesty this is just so I have an excuse to update a couple of unfinished Legion holiday stories.
*Campus: The Legion as college students.
*Psychosis: Legion characters with mental problems.
*Hall of Exs: Ex-boyfriends and girlfriends.

I like them, especially Who Again?

We might add to the American Legion thread that Drake and Kent did all of that work for, too.

Oh I know about that one, but I figured it might be differentiated considering that one's about being patriotic to your country and this one's about... war.

Maybe we could do a robotics themed month. It would feature various computers, robots, cyborgs, and androids that have aided and fought the Legion over the years. And of course any fan creations we come up with.

Wow! 2 years since anyone posted here. Okay, so my idea for the next MOLA exhibition is "Time" - interpret that as you will.

Any takers?
