Lash,
Thank you for posting these synopses (sp?). To be honest with you, I haven't read the whole series. I plan on printing out all the pages in order to read them, but that'll happen later on. I'd like to work out some rough sketches for the covers to each issue! I have some ideas already, but I'd love you and EDE to give me some direction on what *you'd* like to see cover-wise, each issue. I'd also like to do some character sketches, especially characters that you guys have made up. Like, what does Tiffany Spiffany look like? Post a list of who and what you'd like to see, and I'll get on it as I can. I can't commit to sequentials like Obadiah, but quick sketches and cover roughs would be fun.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I've been thinking about adding some character profiles to this thread as well, so character sketches to go along with them would be great!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Eryk, I had hoped you would want to add character profiles but I hated to ask you.

Dean, ANY artwork you want to do related to MEL:TS will be welcomed! Meanwhile, I intend to sprinkle the SECRET FILES will pictures of the castmemebrs I come across on LW, as I did with the Tenzil & your Drura pic above.

I'm glad you like the synopses; I figured it would be a nice way to be able to go DIRECTLY to the issue you want to read without having to scroll through 20-odd pages looking.

My first character profile:

Tiffany Spiffany

Lester's kid sister (by a year), Tiffany was clearly Daddy Spiffany's favorite. While Lester whines and complains whenever he doesn't get what he wants, Tiffany is more perplexed than anything else by unfulfilled desires. She's especially used to males doing basically whatever she wants, and doesn't understand when they don't. She's incredibly flirtacious, but not truly manipulative. Her flirting is more a matter of habit than anything else.

Tiffany overall has been far more sheltered and protected than Lester was, and shares the rest of the family's shock at much of Lester's 'scandalous' behaviour during his party phase. There's also a side of her that really enjoys being out on her own, though, and to be traveling with Tenz and the gang. To her, it's all a big adventure. She's a good kid at the core, though she can be incredibly insensitive and naive. She is incredibly polite and likeable on first impression.

Presently, she's still trying to find purpose in life as she grows beyond being "Daddy's little girl" and has to stake her own path in life.

Appearance wise, she should clearly resemble Lester, though her hair should be somewhat lighter (kind of a sandy blond, maybe?). She's attractive, bustier than Taryn, and dresses very expensively. She stands with a certain amount of poise and confidence, even when she doesn't feel it.

As far as cover images go, Eryk can offer his own input and here's mine. Warning: I'm big on comedic homages to covers of the past.

# 1's cover should certainly feature Tenzil, Taryn and Lester, probably in a pin-up shot.

# 2 could maybe feature the gang being attacked by the Boom-Boom Beast?

# 3 begins the story on Tartarus so Evillo should be on it for sure.

# 4 My idea was to have an all-black cover with only Taryn & Lester's eyes visible ('cause Tenz has on his sunglasses) and the words REALM OF DARKNESS along the bottom. I think its funny!

# 5 I'd love to see an homage to X-MEN 100 with Tenz, Taryn, Lester & Infectious Lass rushing to battle Sugyn, Apollo, Lotus Fruit Lass & Wild Huntsman. Where Xavier is standing on XM 100 would be Evillo.

# 6's cover should feature Lester prominently surrounded by the Super-Companions.

# 7 Maybe a pin-up of Tiffany while Tenzil looks on lustfully and Taryn looks on angrily?

# 8 Maybe a shot of Tenz, Lester and the boys slaving in a mine while Nardroids herd them on?

# 9 I wouldn't mind an ADVENTURE 300 homage cover (this could be used on any of them as far as I'm concerned) but if we use it for the Stupid Stalag arc it could include a middle shot of Nardo ('cause it would be funny) surrounded by Tenz, Tiff, Lester, Itch WItch, Weight Wizard, Dev-Em or whoever in seperate smaller shots ala ADV 300.

Posted by MLLASH on :

And for the current issue, 10, I'm leaning towards a riff on S/LSH 228 (Chemical King's death) but instead of those Legionnaires on that cover, it would have Tenzil, Tiffany, Lester, Took (in Chameleon Boy's place) and one other. The script will read "Which of these heroes will be fat-assed ... at the hands of this villain?"

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

i'm pretty happy with #1...

 -

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I think this would work well for #4 or #5, as well...

 -

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

#2 is a difficult one. I'd kind of combine the pub and coffee shop scenes, with Tenzil and Taryn looking on as Lester throws money at the crowd and says something along the lines of "Poor people are so predictable!"

For #3 I'd do something along the lines of Evillo presiding over a Devil's Dozen tryout, with Tenzil there (not disguised) and Evillo saying something like "YOU want to join the Devil's Dozen?"

I like the Darkness cover for #4, so maybe the Drura pin-up could be used for #5.

I'd parody the cover to the original super-companions story for #6, with Lester leaving Tenzil and Taryn to board a spaceship with the Super-Companions.

#7 should definitely be Tiffany in Lester's office, with Tenzil fawning over her and Taryn looking on angrily.

Since #8's the first issue of the Stupid-Stalag arc, something with Nardo would be natural... but I also like the idea of a pic of Tenzil training with the HOTties, or maybe an Adv. #300 homage?

I'd have Tenzil and Tiffany getting captured by the Nardroids for #9...

Posted by MLLASH on :

You know what might be fun? An homage to Kevn Maguire's JUSTICE LEAGUE covers with the cast standing looking at the reader and looking all badass and stuff. That would work well for the STALAG arc which features a buttload of characters.

Tenzil could be saying, "You talkin' to US?"

Posted by deanlegion on :

I haven't read issue #2 yet, so I don't have an opinion about what would be a good idea. Sounds like a lot is going on in that issue, so it might be a good idea to simply show the cast in a pin-up style cover.

Sounds like #3 is the perfect opportunity to parody the cover of Adventure #247!

Okay, dark cover for #4.

How 'bout a NEW picture of Drura for #5!

Posted by MLLASH on :

ooooh, YES!!! A parody of ADV 247 with Evillo and 2 others of the Dozen rejecting Tenzil! *tee hee!* Good call, Dean!

And may I be so bold to say NEW PICTURES OF DRURA ARE ALWAYS WELCOME!! YES YES YES! [Big Grin]

And Eryk, I love your idea for a parody of the original Super-Companions cover-- we could have Tenzil and Taryn all crying and stuff! *tee hee!*

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

For the #247 parody, I'd go with Evillo as Cos, Either Apollo or Sugyn as Lightning Lad, and Lotus-Fruit Lass as Imra!

# 10 Stupid Stalag of Space part 3 ...And One Shall Surely Be Fatassed!

Issue 10 begins on page 22 of the MEL:TS thread.

Meanwhile, at the Stalag, Tenzil, Tiffany and Lester survive as best they can.

Nardo has quieted the prison revolt until his hard work is undone by the arrival of Taryn and the Super-Companions!

CHARACTER SKETCH: Tenzil Kem

Tenzil is like the main character from an 80s teen movie. He's like Ferris Bueller, Marty McFly, and Zach Morris all rolled into one. Not conventially "cool", and yet so incredibly cool. Despite his ever-present shades, he always sees the brightest side of life. He is completely confident that things will work out for the best in the end, and they usually do. Of course, he's not beyond breaking whatever rules are necessary to insure this...

His family is wacko, and completely dysfunctional, yet he takes as much of it as he can in stride, confident that everything will work out. He shows far more loyalty to them than they deserve. Despite the fact that the series begins with his plan to move out, he'd never really completely abandon his folks or his brother, no matter how creepy they are or how miserable they make him.

His best and oldest friend is the girl who grew up next door, Taryn Loy. He depends on her to keep him focused and to keep his more irresponsible side in check, while he serves to provide joy and levity to her life.

Tenz is handsome, charming, and witty. But more than anything he is a good guy. That's why he's the star of the series, right?

CHARACTER SKETCH: Taryn Loy

Taryn is the girl next door, if the girl next door's dad were a mad scientist who does crazy biological experiments on family members as well as family pets and if her mom had left after being given an extra breast by her aforementioned mad scientist dad. Taryn grew up very quick, and unlike Tenzil, who somehow managed to keep a childlike optimism despite his circumstances, Taryn harbors a certain resentment at her lot in life.

(At least initially in the series...) She is the responsible one, who always sees what's really at stake and what is really important. Despite the fact that she rarely explicitly laughs at Tenzil or his antics, she secretly values very highly the joy he brings into her life. He's the only person that she completely trusts, and deep down, she fears losing him more than almost anything. There's a certain lack of self-confidence, a unwillingness to believe that others' actually care about her, and at the same time, a strong desire to find a group that she really fits in with. She often uses her enhanced physical strength to cover up this insecurity.

Taryn is cute, cuter than she believes herself to be. In Tenzil's words, she's "just-rightly endowed". She is tall and lean, with maybe even even a slightly athletic build.

A bit of insight into .'s creative process, if anyone's interested:

So we had the girls wandering around Legion World, and I decided they needed to run into someone. My first thought was that it would be one of the male Legionnaires, who would kind of hit on them (as it is only natural that two attractive young women walking around Legion World would be hit on by a Legion male). Then I got to thinking about who it should be. Sun Boy would be the most natural choice, but he's not a Legionnaire in this continuity. Then I started thinking, "Wait, the Spiffany's are rich and from Earth, Dirk is rich and from Earth, shouldn't they know each other?" Then suddenly the idea that Dirk might very likely be a part of the party crowd that Lester once hung with, before his exile to Bismoll. And thus is an idea born!

Not to mention Dirk's torrid affair with Lester!

But of course, I'm going to mention it. Or rather, Tiffany is after he hits on her!

I want to keep Lester fat until the final destination on the trip! Plus, that gives us an excuse to keep Noyd along, since his having been successfully cured might help provide clues in finding a cure for Lester!

Maybe some short solo-stories of our growing list of castmembers? Or play catchup with the group of heroes from the Stupid Stalag arc?

Or maybe some stories featuring folks who haven't appeared yet in MEL:TS but will eventually (example: Eyeful Ethel).

Eryk, what say you?

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Hmm... I've got an idea, but I need some time to mull it over.

Posted by MLLASH on :

I was always more fond of annuals that ended a big storyline, ala the TERRA/Teen Titans annual of the 80s, or told one BIG, GOOD story that was actually important to the ongoing storyline, ala LSH Annual # 1.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

That's kind of what I'm thinking. Kind of a big climatic story that would tie together most of what we've done thus far, and lay the groundwork for the next phase of the series.

Posted by MLLASH on :

There's a next phase?

Oh yes, the Grim & gritty phase!! [Wink]

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Just wait until Tenzil's clone destroys Bismoll!

Posted by Fat Cramer on :

Grim & gritty! Hooray!

I thought we were going to see some big breakthrough a few pages back with Lester admitting that he was the stupid one, but he seems to have shaken off that momentary introspection... don't know if I'd want to see him redeemed or not.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I'm sure Lester will be back in full force (and then some) just as soon as he's defatassed! IF that ever happens...

I rather liked that scene too.

But the biggest character change for Lester we'll likely see is him getting MEANER. (Or SMUGGER, as Teeds would call it) [Big Grin]

Posted by Fat Cramer on :

NO!!! How dreadful!

But that means somebody else should get nicer. Unsmugger.

Posted by MLLASH on :

Well, Questar's kind of a sweetie. A bit naive and childlike but kind of likable overall, I think.

I think Plant Lad's one kewl cat!

Tiffany's the wild card. In one scene, she's all Taryn's best friend, and in another, she's all letting Taryn know she intends to become Mrs. Kem. I think we'd all better watch that girl! She's used to getting what she wants.

Posted by MLLASH on :

How kewl is a hero who can SING his way out of a scuffle?

And he even proved himself a master of musical genres!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Noyd is space groovy!

But-- psst!-- Lash, clean out your PM box so I can respond to you!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Willikers! Will do!

*Sigh*! I think I'm developing a bit of a crush on Tiffany myself!

Posted by MLLASH on :

She's definitely a cutie.

That being a zillionaire stuff doesn't hurt either.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

It's just, she makes you feel like you want to do nice things for her! [Love]

She's certainly made a new pal in Trav-us!

Jumping Catfish! MAYAVALE!

Posted by Future on :

Mayavale, Lash? The plot thickens!

Another issue well done, boys. I LOVE IT! [Big Grin]

Posted by MLLASH on :

THANKS, Future!

And look out, things are about to get trippy!

Posted by Future on :

With a Rebooted Ike involved, they have to. [Smile]

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

The interesting thing is that Qut-ube has not only changed from Mayavale's teacher to his student, but has changed gender as well!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Jeepers! Big Toes gets his first line of dialogue! And in a very creepy scene!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Do you approve? I gave him his first thought balloon last ish, but all it said was "Nth". Opposable Big Toes Boy is a true mystery!

The thing about Doctor Mayavale is, well... are his wacky remembrances even true or are they all insane hallucinations of his? I quite like his character and his martyr complex. What a freak-a-zoid!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Oh, your portrayal of Big Toes was excellent! I loved the whole "YOU remember, don't you?" idea! Perfectly in line with the long-term plans for the character!

And as for Mayavale... well, the fun is that you just don't know if what he's saying is true or not!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Jeebus H. Willikers!!!

How will a certain surprise appearance in LEGION # 37 impact MEL:TS continuity? Stay tuned!!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I'm curious to see how it will affect MEL:TS continuity myself!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Am currently catching up on MEL:TS, after being pages behind! I'll add comments as they come!

BTW, I re-read and loved the scene with Tenzil and Taryn trying out for the Devil's Dozen as Sir Prize and Miss Terious. Great stuff [LOL] !

Posted by MLLASH on :

Wasn't that hysterical? That was Eryk's idea-- pure jeenyus!

And refer to the MEL:TS Secret Files thread if you need to. Not only does it list a synopsis of each issue, but it also tells what page of the growing MEL:TS thread each issue begins on.

Plus Eryk's character bios are wonderful.

You probably knew all this already but I wanted to plug it. [Big Grin]

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Don't forget the groovy artwork by Dean and others in the Secret Files!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Just read #7, and I think it's my favorite so far! By this point, you guys have a TON going on, and I can't get enough!

Taryn is my absolute favorite, but all the characters (except Pa, that bastard [Big Grin] ) are fun!

More comments as they come! And I can't wait to see Nardo...

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Ok, finally read the infamous line: "Thank you for flying Air Nardo, Ha ha ha!"

Love it!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

I'm just going to add comments as they come instead of waiting!

The next line to make me literally laugh out loud:

"I used to have girlfriends too when I was alive alive alive alive alive alive" by Echo Chamber Chet [LOL]

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Glad you're enjoying it, Cobie!

Posted by MLLASH on :

That Echo Chamber Chet line was me! *bursting with pride*

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Well deserved pride indeed, Lash!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Tenzil eating a tree to make it fall onto a Nardroid!

'Come on down, you are the newest contestant on "Who Wants to be Super-Fatassed"!'

Kid Heavyfeathers having the greatest moment of his carreer!

"I'm too sexy for this insubordination!"

"Well, if everything's ok, then, I think I'm going to just have a glass of--well, actually, I think I'll just have the glass!"

I CANNOT GET ENOUGH [LOL]

You boys are pure jeenyius!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

And whoa! Plant Lad is quickly becoming another favorite of mine! As I'm still on #11, I hope he makes it OK!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

On hearing that Gym'll is less grumpy now that he is a father: "Hear that Taryn, there's hope for you yet!" Next panel: Taryn fuming (she was already fuming before).

Are you guys sure you haven't been lying to me for years and are really comic book writers?

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

One more thing- whenever I picture Plant Lad in normal form, I picture a green John Lennon or Paul McCartney. He even kind of talks like them (or like the Monkees too).

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Plant Lad's an interesting story, because he just sort of became a lead character by accident.

Posted by MLLASH on :

I know *I've* grown rather fond of Noyd. And I can pinpoint the exact moment it happened... when EDE began his flashback-origin during "Stupid Stalag"... and I finished it.

I was just fascinated with his becoming famous TWICE-over for differing reasons on his homeworld and losing it all both times.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

You can kind of tell that you guys liked writing him so much that you didn't want him to leave the story yet! He seems to get a lot of the best lines too in the big group shots!

I am hereby Plant Lad's biggest fan! I'm just about done with issue #13!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Ha! Just as I wrote that last post, I came across the panel where Tenzil wonders if the readers are wondering why Noyd is even there too!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Hope you guys don't mind the constant posts, but I'm posting as I read it!

Now Noyd gets more spotlight by singing songs for the whiskey! It's official! He's currently beat out Taryn for my favorite character!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Noyd probably never would've made it out of the Super-Stalag alive if I hadn't been inspired to write that origin scene!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Predatory Bird Knockout Gas!

The grand entrace of Mayavale!

I'm almost there, but I'm putting in a request now for the death of Questar!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Wow, all caught up!

Guys, you've outdone yourselves. I can't get enough of Tenzil, Taryn, Tiffany, Noyd and Big Toes!

And now the problem is that I crave and demand more! What about Renkil? Drura? Thora? Will Lester ever be de-fatassed? What about Dev-Em when that happens? Will Plant Lad return to his music roots?

reread #7 to current; so much fun!

Posted by MLLASH on :

ive warmed to questar, hes sweet

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

I really like what you did with Sugyn too, especially him joining Tenz's crew when Lester payed him!

Maybe I'll warm to Questar too...maybe [Big Grin]

Noyd spacerawks! And I like Tiffany believing she has super-powers subplot too!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Questar's fun to write! I actually have this cool little voice I do whenever I'm writing dialogue for him!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

I do like how Questar gets sent flying away with a smack in every fight. It's hard to not like any character when you guys are so enthusiastic about them!

And I cannot make any post about MEL:TS without saying it again: Noyd spacerawks!

Posted by MLLASH on :

taryn's warming to q. too....

luv noyd,hes hot!

more sugyn & the HOTties soon!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

The thing about Questar is that he is really good guy, and he really believes in the super-hero ideals. He's just kind of dumb, and a total dork about it all.

I also like just inventing little powers for him every chance I get.

Posted by MLLASH on :

what if doc m drove q. insane for a bit?

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Hmm... I don't think we really have room to do anything with crazy Questar. Plus it'd be hard to fit with the next stop on the Super-Road Trip.

Posted by MLLASH on :

dark questar!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Maybe later on in the series.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Seeing new powers for Questar is also a funny run-on joke.

I like that every couple of issues Tenzil says that he told us that "Big Toes Boy was erm, handy" [Big Grin]

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

The Big Toes line is a classic example of how something that's only moderately funny to begin with can actually become quite funny if you repeat it enough.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Which is a technique that MEL:TS excells at!

I'm hooked and a need a fix! Damn keyboards!

Posted by MLLASH on :

new kb soon, promise.

must write mel:ts page!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

I had a fever and the only cure was more installments of MEL:TS

Westerner super-fatassed! More scenes with Nyod [Big Grin]

Although Tiffany flirts with everyone, I like how her and Noyd get along...

And Mayavale is perfect. You guys must have had practice writing him before...

Posted by MLLASH on :

I decided to stop playing coy with him and get right to the sheer space-nuttiness of Mayavale.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I'm trying to give it a little bit of a horror movie feel.

Posted by MLLASH on :

Yeah, it's kinda turned into that... I like it, I must say...

"Diet fat-ass, DIET!" [LOL]

Posted by MLLASH on :

Toodkins, to be honest I was a little scared about our portrayal of Dirk... although I don't think we did a disservice to his past characterization at all. So, you were intrigued by him, I hope? Maybe we should use him again, if he isn't part of the re-imagining...

And looking back at that issue, I need to reword and make it clear that Taryn knocked the wall down by smacking Dirk through it...! [Big Grin]

And Cobie, we LIVE for our readers' comments...!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Jeepers! I've been calling for Questar's death for issues, and now that it might happen, I...might be worried about him?

Gulp!

Posted by Mystery Lad on :

Before you put Quester in death's view, let Dirk hit on him! *That'd* be funny!

Lash, Dirk, here, was a mite sleazy... but only in his rapid-fire switching of potential conquests.

I always imagined Dirk as being in love with pleasure... he's surprised when any of his antics hurt anyone. At least in my imagination. That *isn't* born out by his characterizations in the 'official' book, so your take on him is closer to 'reality' than mine! I have suggested him as a possible 'bi' for quite awhile, now.

And are you really going to feature Eyeful Eth-el and her kryptonian eyes? Or is she going to be booted back to 'regular' self?

I'm enjoying Plant Lad... hope he stays around.

Todd

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Another Plant Lad fan! You guys have a Wolverine/Fonzy on your hands!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Don't insult Noyd like that!! [Wink]

Anyhoo, is anyone else weirded out to discover that Tenzil was actually Dream Girl preboot? Wild, man!

And I think it's no end of cute that Tenzil was never drugged on Vxxniarade but yet he punched Westerner!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

The vxxniarade simply diluted the willpower of those who drank it, so that they'd be susceptible to Mayavale's psychic suggestions. Tenzil and Taryn still received the suggestions, even though they weren't compelled by them. That's how Tenz was able to tell Questar all that stuff about the ceremony of rebirth at the end of last issue!

Posted by Fat Cramer on :

Sometimes I need more coffee before I read this stuff. For a moment there, I was trying to remember in what issue Tenzil was supposed to be Dream Girl and how it happened... getting my series (and forums!) mixed up!

Jeepers! Tiffany is kicking Doctor Mayavale's ass!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Thanks for the new sig, Eryk-- I really felt for poor Pickles-- especially when I fell off the couch laughing...

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

You know, comedic value aside, I'm actually really fascinated now with Mayavale as a villain. I kind of like the way he gains control over his victims by playing on their guilt for the supposed wrongs they committed in past lives!

Posted by MLLASH on :

I've always dug his super-martyr complex of space!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Poor little puppy dogs = the ultimate innocent victims.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Pure jeenyus! Pickles? Bwahahahahaha!

And I've been waiting for Big Toes Boy to get back to the group! I love it when Tenzil uses the 'handy' joke!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Stay tuned for prominent roles for Big Toes in upcoming issues!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I love how Lester on one page is all "I thought we were getting off this stupid planet!" then the next page is all "Let's go rescue the cute jungle man!"

Posted by MLLASH on :

But, DUDE-- this is Jungle King! Worth risking death for, I think...! [Big Grin]

WOW! A beautiful, voluptuous, evil hot platinum blonde? MEL:TS has certainly been overdue for one!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Wow! This last issue rocked! And I've got a good feeling about the next one as well!

Posted by MLLASH on :

I was JUST thinking: "MAN, I can't wait for next issue...!!!"

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I love Tiffany's "super-feminine intuition" as a plot device!

And this is going to be Big Toes's issue to shine, methinks!

Posted by MLLASH on :

And I love how she's threatening others with her "berserker rage" powers! *tee hee!*

Oh, and I'm so glad Big Toes is speaking now...

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Jeepers! What could Glorith want with a bunch of children? And it seems to me she's a pretty crappy babysitter! Li'l Big Toes could get hurt climbing up on countertops like that with no one to watch him!

Glorith of Balduur is MANY thing. Crappy Babysitter is but one of her myriad of qualities!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Thanks for the new sig, Lash!

I dunno. At the rate we've been going...

Posted by MLLASH on :

I think we put 'em out at a pretty good pace. We're on issue # 19!

But we really need to stay on top of it during this month and next, since there won't be any LEGION issues released. Maybe someone will turn to MEL:TS in desperation and be hooked? [Big Grin]

And we need to decide how the "re-imagining" is going to affect MEL:TS. Our big thing has been to write this as if it were actual postboot continuity, using characters that either hadn't been reintroduced postboot or weren't in current use. This has been IMPORTANT for me to write it in this manner...

Maybe there will be a loophole in the TITANS/LEGION special we can use to keep this going... or maybe we can re-imagine MEL:TS!

Anyhoo, I'm not really concerned about that until LSH # 1 hits the stands.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Oh, granted we've produced 19 issues basically since January, I think we're working at a terrific rate. I was just pointing out the obvious slowdown the past few weeks.

Posted by MLLASH on :

Well, I knew you were busy and stuff, so I didn't bug you... (I won't even bring UP our Teen Titans series....) [Wink] [Big Grin]

And I apologize for my delay in posting page 2 of issue 19... I had to think about that scene for a bit. But I'm ready to roll it OUT now!

Your biggest fan being honored is such a way! Big Toes is named Dezmund!

This is one happy poster right now [Big Grin]

Thanks Lash!

For the longest time, I was all wondering "WHAT does Eryk see in this "Opossable Big Toes" character? and couldn't understand why he insisted on having him around.

Not too long ago, I finally "GOT" Big Toes, and started liking him. Naming him after a longtime MB buddy just seemed like THE thing to do!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

A deserved honor, Cobie!

Stay tuned for a future arc revealing the origin of Opposable Big Toes Boy! Currently scheduled for, oh, about #33 or so.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

The funny thing is that Lash's reaction mirrors what the reaction to Big Toes is suppossed to be. He starts out harmless enough, but basically an extraneous character, with little point. But as we move along, we gradually find out there's more to him than meets the eye, and eventually I'm hoping he'll turn out to be one of the most interesting characters in the series, once his whole story gets written.

As you wish, kind sir! I hereby reaffirm my commitment as well!

I hope Legion World is ready to get MEL-ted!!!

"Get MEL-ted!"

That might work for our ad campaign...

Groovalicious!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Question.

In a continuity that is suddenly LEGIONless...

What happens next? Who steps up to the plate when evil strikes?

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Ooh, I think I like the way you think.

Posted by MLLASH on :

And my thoughts seem to revolve around a DARLING little upside-down rocketship...

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Hmm... I'm so brainstorming ideas on why certain peeps might set up shop in an upside-down rocketship...

And can a Planetary Chance Machine be that far behind?

Posted by MLLASH on :

I think I'm most looking forward to the TRYOUT issue...

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Hmm... with the Legion gone, what happens to a certain Super-Maid... of Space!?

Posted by MLLASH on :

And I think it important to note that neither Infectious Lass nor Dirk Morgna were lost in the time-stream...

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

With the reboot Legion no longer being published, I feel no qualms whatsoever about using all the toys in the reboot playchest!

New major villain: The Raccoon Tyrant of Orando!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Oh, I'm estatic. So, you think we should cut off the membership at 25 for tax purposes, or go unlimited?

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I think 25 is fairly realistic number for us to handle. We can see how it goes, though.

Posted by MLLASH on :

ALL-NEW, MOSTLY-DIFFERENT!

Posted by MLLASH on :

So I'm picturing this scene, see...

Tenzil, seeking to uphold the traditions of the Legion, insists that the new team be founded by a blonde chick, and a brunette and redheaded guy. Tenzil and Taryn already fulfill 2 of those criteria.

Lester, in an effort to gain founder status, pays a visit to Phillippe (the super-hairdresser of space). But the dye-job goes awry and Lester ends up having orange Bozo clown-hair for an issue.

And Tenzil gives founder status to Dirk!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Question: How long was Drura with the Legion? So how many issues between her leaving MEL:TS and the Legion being lost?

Or should we just have a "gap" at the end of the current arc to fastforward through Drura's cadet tenure?

Posted by MLLASH on :

I like the idea of a 5-Month Gap....

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I kind of do too. That gives the current cast some time to go off and do different things, and then gradually re-assemble...

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Hmm... but should we cancel the current series and start a new one?

A new #1 might be a good jumping on point for new readers!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Jillikers! I'm all excited and stuff!

When you're ready, we'll do a little PM-pow-wow to nail down the membership...

Posted by MLLASH on :

Oh, I'm all for jumping-on points! But would it be MEL:TS # 1 or... All-New Mostly-Different LSH # 1?

Plus, we still have to TPB the original series.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Since it's not really about Tenzil anymore, I don't think a new MEL:TS makes much sense. Of course, the last series ended up not really being about Tenzil all that much, either!

This is cool, because we're finishing up the series by completing the major storyline we started in our first arc! And we can turn our planned annual into a blow-out double-sized final issue!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Hell yeah, this space-rawks!

LONG LIVE THE LEGION! A Legion, anyway....

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Hmm... Chuck is wasn't lost in the timestream, either, was he?

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

So once we get through with the present series, I figure we can edit and polish it up while releasing "TPBs" of the major arcs!

Posted by MLLASH on :

I don't think Chuck was!

The TPB idea is rad-ass!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Well, I'm about off for tonight, but I'm groovin' to this All-New Mostly Different idea!

Some suggestions for TPTB on the eagerly anticipated new series.

Besides Tenzil, Taryn, Lester, Dirk Morgna, Chuck Taine (Gear too I would assume), Drura Sehpt, Berta Skye Haris, etc.

Miss T, I can gaurantee that one of your suggestions has made the cut!

Wanna know who she is?

Hint: She just made her postboot debut in the current issue of MEL:TS!

Posted by Trackstar on :

Cool! Also, for irony's sake, you might consider Mekt Ranzz and Jancel Ardeen.

Posted by Future on :

I might also note that Dreamer and Kinetix were absent from the crossover issue, they (along with Andromeda) weren't in any of the timestream shots of the Legion fading out. Something to play with perhaps?

I always seem to be the bearer of bad news, but Gear was with the Legion during the 'white-out' and Chuck's silhouette was there as well, with red hat flying off in the timestream. But I say if you want to retcon that out, do it! Chuckles would make a great addition to the cast.

Tres excited for the new series! Bring it on, gents.

Future, it is with all due respect to your keen eye and long memory, that I accord you the title of Scott Tot!

You are like a junior version of our beloved Founder, Lightning Lad, who is also a man of answers!

Posted by Trackstar on :

And to the news that Dreamer may still be alive - hell yeah!

A Nura-Tenzil love affair? That'd be hot.

Gear & Chuck: Lost in time-stream

Nura and Zoe: NOT lost in time-stream

Got it. Thanks for the info, Future!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Ooooh, I like the idea of fixing and using Zoe!

Posted by MLLASH on :

I want the return of zippy Zoe; the Zoe DnA wrote so well before they both had brain aneurysims and turned her into a decendant of Clayface.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I agree!

You know... you'd think DC would've had the sense to replace them after the double aneurysms, but NO! They let them keep on writing!

Posted by Trackstar on :

If Nura is in the book, you've got a fan for life!

Aw, shucks, I'd read it anyways. But I LOVE Nura! I never really liked Zoe for some reason. I think it's mostly because her bubbly personality and flirtacious zest reminded me of Nura and I wanted my platinum playgirl back. I wonder if their similarities would make them friends or competitive. Food for thought.

Posted by MLLASH on :

If we do use Nura, you might not like my ideas for her...

What "real" effect would never ever sleeping have on a precognitive human being?

Why, I'm thinking she'd be as crazy as Drusilla from BUFFY...

Posted by Somber Lass on :

Crazy is sexycool, don't ya know.

But if you put bags under her eyes, I'll bite you.

Lashkins, I entrust Nura to your care. Nura's safe with Lashy. He knows how much I love Dru.

Posted by MLLASH on :

My ideas for Nura have been approved by the powers that cowrite. Prepare yourself for Dreamer: The Most-Feared Legionnaire!

(*if* we're 100% sure she didn't vanish into the time-stream!)

Blistering asteroid belts!

Will a certain Mr. E. Davis Ester ever fill me in on just what or who the father of two-Face Tess is supposed to be?

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Didn't I tell you?

Good. Because I've recently changed my mind. [Wink]

I've got a groovy next page in mind. I'll get to it soon.

"The Muncher Muncher Muncher Muncher Muncher"... [LOL]

"I see! That explains why old people always have gnarled feet." [ROTFLMAO]

I forgot how much I love the way you guys write. Two different styles, but on the same page, and both absolutely hysterical. I would definately spend money on this if it was published by DC! [Smile]

WE WANT MEL:TS!!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Eryk currently has his hands full with an upcoming project that will no doubt delight MEL:TS fans!

Meanwhile, though, if he has no objections, I am going to see what I can do about continuing MEL:TS # 20 this weekend.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

If you want to take a page or two that would be great! And I'll try to make as much progress on the project as I can this weekend as well!

Wait'll you see how everything ties together... *hearty chuckling which slowly evolves into evil, devious laughter*

Posted by MLLASH on :

As of today, Eryk & I have finished plotting # 20, pending 1 or 2 itty bitty details!

And work on the next stage of Matter-Eater Lad & company's life has already begun!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

I've been waiting a long time for this! [Big Grin]

I might have to reread the last few issues of this series to get revved up!

Posted by MLLASH on :

It's almost SCARY how well everything is being tied up!!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Jillikers! Will Eryk go with the big bad battle scene next or do something wacky?!?! The final issue of MEL:TS is halfway done!!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Jillikers! The League of Scantily-Clad Overendowed Assassins are making short-work of our heroes!

But I'm really curious about where Questar has vanished to... [Wink]

Leapin' Jeepers! Kewl battle scene so far, Eryk! I'll see what I can come up with tomorrow!

ps/ your page should be 21, not 20!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Thanks. Action scenes are kind of hard to write in this format, but I was trying to give the impression of our heroes just being swamped by the busty assassins!

Poor Questar...

Posted by MLLASH on :

Things are coming to a head!!! A mere 14 pages to go!

How will Tenzil and the gang escape the nefarious clutches of Thora, Azura and Eve?

Who will live? Marry? Get fat? Die?

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Don't we have 44 pages for this issue?

Posted by MLLASH on :

I thought we were going 40 pages, isn't that the length of most "double-length" books/annuals? I'm sure willing to do 44 though!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I guess I was taking the "double-length" literally. We'll just see how it goes.

Posted by MLLASH on :

We could make it an 80-page giant! [Wink]

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I'm considering whether we have room for one more big twist...

Posted by MLLASH on :

We shall make room for it, my friend.

Posted by MLLASH on :

We shall expand the page-count to whatever lengths it takes to tell this tale that MUST be told!

AND NOW!!! The secret of Lester and Tiffany-- REVEALED!!! Find out just what Tiffany's powers really are. And what of the ever-lovable Lester?

Not a problem! He's read the script, remember? [Wink]

Posted by MLLASH on :

Oh, yeah! Thanks, EDE! We'll have to use that.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

OK, have decided there are enough new parts for me to really get into MEL:TS again!

- Questar/Thora battle—yes, yes, yes!! This is one of the funniest battles I’ve ever read! I, Cobalt Kid, love it!

- Hakk and Weez, and Sugyn giving them a hard time: priceless.

I need more! More!

[Smile]

That Questar/Thora scene had been percolating for a long time, so I was glad that we finally got the chance to use it!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

I can't wait to go back and reread the whole thing. The mention of Tiffany's 'bezerker rage powers' made me laugh, as I remember thinking it was hilarious when I first read it.

I can't believe it was about a year ago when I read like twenty five pages of MEL:TS in one sitting!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

*Sigh* I've started the next page several times and can't quite get what I want with it.

Posted by MLLASH on :

heh! Thanks for reading it, Cobie! 25 thread pages in 1 sitting?!?! Awwwp! I will ocassionally do that sorta mass re-read too, and I get a kick out of it every time!

Eryk, anything I can do to assist? I'm here for you! *choke!*

Posted by legionadventureman on :

Whereabouts do i find the first part of your fab story, LASH?

Posted by MLLASH on :

THIS THREAD is a must for the MEL:TS beginner.

The exact page to click on for the start of each issue is given, plus each issue is condensed to synopsis form, but don't read the synopsis unless you want to be spoiled to the plots.

And then the madness is featured RIGHT HERE with the actual MEL:TS thread.

Warning: the first few pages of the thread contain a copius amount of chatter-posts between the actual story pages. But once Eryk and I really got rolling with issue # 1, the chatter-posts practically vanish.

That sounds really titty, LASH, i'll have a look!

Your animated Tenz avatar looks tits-riffic, LASH

Has Styx and Stiletta or Eve Aries got our brave hero into their hussified clutches, yet?

Goats, eh?

LAM, we haven't used Styx and Stiletta. Yet, anyway.

Flesh eating zombies, yes.

'Kay, I'm gonna do another plot-hop page...

Posted by legionadventureman on :

LASH, i spent the last two days getting acquainted with your ongoing series. I liked the Dr. Mayavale sequence and gives me a feel for the character, even though i never read the Legion issue that had his first (and supposedly) last appearence.

Speaking of last appearences, you can't really be thinking of ending MEL: The Series!!! How will i get by without knowing if Lester and De-Vem will finally get together and live happily ever after???? Ahhhh!!!

Too bad you couldnt fit Captain Frake or Charma into the growing ranks of Thora's foot soldiers. It was a darn good journey!!!

Brian

Posted by MLLASH on :

Eryk and I appreciate your comments, LAM.

MEL:TS is ending after the current issue, but only because something bigger better and funner is set to follow!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Willikers!! Does Myron Marks have the right stuff to unite all these gangs, what with their various agendas and all, or will he choke?

Posted by legionadventureman on :

Maybe...just maybe he could be related to the Spiffany clan - you know, the mysterious "missing" heir?

Posted by MLLASH on :

Nope. There's already plans afoot for the missing Spiffany heir, which should be revealed in the first issue or two of the series following MEL:TS!

Posted by legionadventureman on :

Can't wait, LASH! The saga so far is definitely TV show material

Posted by Doctor Mayavale on :

Egads! My absence from the boards has deprived me of one of my great pleasures, in the form of this great series written by my old friends Lash and Ester!

Hopefully, Mayavale will get caught up reading it this weekend!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Hey Doc! I hope you thought we did you justice in your appearance! We even had you get your ass kicked by Tiffany Spiffany in an homage to your only published Legion appearance!

PS/ The appearances of Sden, Mordecai and Jungle King on your home-world wasn't a throw-away scene either... you're not quite done with your old friends yet!

Posted by MLLASH on :

So this will now be the MELatLSH:TS Chat thread!

Love the first appearance of Uncle Space in Legion continuity!

So, EDE, are we going with the idea that the new LSH is already formed and in its earliest stages?

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Yep! We'll be switching the camera to them shortly! The Uncle Space stuff is just one of those prelude/subplot thingies that'll develop over the next few issues, until we figure out what to do with it!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Ah, good... I plan to have a bit of fun with those Dominators...!

Can't wait for more! Your biggest fan is still here, stalking and watching your every move! Er, I mean, eagerly awaiting MELatLSH:TS!

Posted by MLLASH on :

I'm all excited about the new line-up!

Of course, Tenzil, Taryn and Lester are there; and did we confirm somewhere that Dreamer and Andromeda were NOT present when the postboot LSH was exiled to limbo?

Plus folks like Dirk Morgna and some of the cadets.

A select few from the MEL:TS plethora of characters and maybe a few surprises!!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

DEFinitely a few surprises!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

ATTN: Legion Worlders!

If you haven't been reading MEL:TS, the series, now's the perfect time to pick it up, with the new series, Matter-Eater Lad and the Legion of Super-Heroes!

And... jeepers! Wait until you guys see who pops up on the next page! I'm so excited about it!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Andromeda vs. Thunder!

An Arathamite Legionnaire!

Hateface!

The (finally) post-boot Sun Boy!

Yes, I say, YES!!!

Posted by MLLASH on :

"Sleepless in Space" Nura Nal might be nuttier than Winath crunch pudding, but she sure is fun to write!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Jeepers! She's creeping me out!

Posted by MLLASH on :

But she certainly seems to inspire Tenzil.

"Winath crunch pudding". I like typing that.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Jeepers! I'm starting to get the feel for Hate-Face! Pretty groovy!

Posted by MLLASH on :

I've taken an instant liking to Braino of Mrynah!

I've decided that not only is he the noblest being of all time and a Colu-level intellect, but's also a bit of a "Romeo" with the ladies! How funny is that?

Time to take stock of our line-up:

Current Legionnaires

Matter-Eater Lad
Calorie Queen
Sun Boy
Lester Spiffany (code name?)
Sensory Lad
Storm Boy
Dreamer
Andromeda
Thunder
Infectious Lass
Nightwind
Blast-Off
Nemesis Kid
Pol Krinn (code name?)
Hate-Face
Braino

Did I forget anyone?

Posted by MLLASH on :

Insect Queen

That's 17. How far do we wanna go? There's more I'd like to see, but we don't wanna go nucking futs here. Or do we?

Possible Lester codenames:

CASHFLOW

CURRENCY KID (or KID CURRENCY)

FINANCE LAD

BILLIONAIRE BOY

CREDIT KID

Possible Pol Krinn codenames:

*I really don't like the Magnetic Kid name, BTW*

COSMIC KID (in homage to his brother)

....????? I'm at a loss here.

Posted by MLLASH on :

That's 8 guys to 9 girls (so far)-- nice ratio there.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Somewhere between 20-25 seems appropriate.

I was thinking Currency Kid for Lester, so I'm happy with that.

Maybe we should go with a non-Lad/Boy/Kid name for Pol? Though I kind of like Cosmic Kid.

Posted by MLLASH on :

20-25 gives us lots more to work wih, Yay! I have one DEFINITE I wanna include; no-one else really in mind as yet, but I'm sure the notion will strike. I'm not huge on membership caps anyway, as I feel we can do any and all members justice with pretty much equal air-time and development.

Currency Kid sounds good to me.

I kind of like the "Cosmic Kid" brother-homage as well (and Pol seems like the type who WOULD do that), but agree we could use a few non-Boy/Lad/Kid names. Torn, torn.

Holy monkeys! Whatever will we do with Terrorform Zoe?

Posted by MLLASH on :

What if that whole "terrorform" nonsense just sort-of, I dunno... wore off after awhile?

Or Zoe just TKed her own molecules back to normal.

Thi is so weird, 'cause I was kind-of wanting to use a telekinetic... I was even considering Mystelor from the old TAURUS GANG...

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I'm trying to think of someone way we could actually use the terrorform stuff to our advantage... but, quite frankly, it sucks so bad it might just be better to undo it as quickly as possible!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Hmmm... I'm thinking it might be fun to go with the original fate Zoe was scheduled for... perhaps involving her friend Ethel... I dunno.

But yeah, the "terrorform" stuff was lame.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Oooh... I totally forgot about the Ethel arc! Having Zoe around for that would certainly be cool...

Posted by Abin Quank on :

You guys could have Zoe search for and find the Emerald Eye of Ethyl, only to lose it again, after she realizes that it won't make her become more powerful.

Posted by MLLASH on :

"KINETIX is BACK...

But WHO is she-- WHAT is she NOW?!!?"

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

"There's a new girl in town... and she's KINETIX!?!?"

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Hm, what about EDE's old idea for Zoe?

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Jeepers! That was 11 months ago! I have *no idea* what that (no doubt) brilliant idea was anymore!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Willikers! I feel sorry for the kindly maintenance man.

Loved Nura's dialogue on page 17, EDE!

And it seems the green flying worm swarm thingies have become a major threat!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I knew there was no better way to establish the pure evil that is Murdermaton than have him kill a kindly maintainance man in front of a bunch of schoolchildren!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Oh, remind me sometime to think up a reason why Thunder uses "Shazam" as her magic word instead of the clunkier "Captain Marvel".

Posted by MLLASH on :

So, issue # 1 of MEL&tLSH is done! Pretty good work, I think.

I like that:

*We established multiple future plots/stories here (What's up with the Dominion? Who is the doctor Murdermaton was working for? What's the deal with Uncle Space? And let us not forget creepy kidnapper guy!)

*Everyone got at least a little moment in the spotlight (Storm Boy being the one who probably got the least).

*We pretty quickly set up several inter-team relationships.

*We left plenty of room to develop/explain how this current Legion got set up.

I'm wary of:

*Setting a precedent for "A" and "B" and "bench" teams. Was less fond of the idea after I worte it. Hopefully, I tossed that possibility down the space-toilet when Tenzil gave his shout-out to the members he left at the HQ. Now that everything's out in the open, they're all going to have to pull their weight.

*Getting too silly; hopefully the "grandma slippers" and "Nura's interprative dance" stuff wasn't too off the wall.

Early favorites to write:

Outside of those who were in the MEL:TS cast, I'm thinking I'm going to have a LOT of fun with Dreamer, Braino and Hate-Face.

Upon rereading, it seems that Thunder probably got the most face-time. I wouldn't have thought she would be the "star" of # 1, but I like her so far.

EDE, any comments before I start # 2 tomorrow?

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

You know... the first issue reads better now that's it's finished than I thought it did while we were writing it.

I think we did a good job of hitting on a number of different elements, some of which were kind of surprising on the reread.

I like a lot of the relationships we set up in the first issue, particularly the Andromeda/Thunder rivalry. I think it's quite nice just how many things we set up in the issue.

I too would be cautious of getting too silly, but I don't think we went overboard with this issue. I actually have plans to follow up on the "grandma slippers" comment next issue. I wasn't too big on the different level teams, either, but it did solve the problem of how to avoid sending the entire team to the zoo, which would have seemed excessive. One way we might go in the future is to have mission teams consisting of the "A-teamers" leading the less experienced members.

Posted by MLLASH on :

So, perhaps it was Dean's recent MEL/LSH art that spurred it, but a flurry of creativity today resulted in the finishing of issue 2!

And if I do say so myself, it space-rawks!

All 17 members get their moment, and no less than !FIVE! subplots continue on towards various conclusions, proving that we are second only to Paul Levitz in this department!

Throw in Uncle Space, Marte Allon and Eyeful Ethel, and maybe even Kitchen Sink Kid!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

One of the things I liked about #2 was the way we broke up the teams, creating some interesting combinations of Legionnaires to interact with one another.

I [Love] you two for using Zoe! And Nightwind and Drura too.

And somehow, the way you write makes me able to visualize each of the characters. Great job!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Zoe will be heavily featured in the current issue!

Posted by legionadventureman on :

Will this be human Zoe or Hypertaxed Zoe?

Posted by MLLASH on :

You'll have to read it to see.

Posted by legionadventureman on :

D'oh!

Posted by Harbinger on :

I [Love] Hate Face, Nightwind anmd Nemesis being in this Legion. If you are looking for a Brin Londo "I'm too cool to be in this gang" love interest may I humbly suggest [Wildfire] ?

You haven't lost any of your wit, pacing, fantastic prose and overall quality from the last MEL:TS series! As always you're a godsend on a windy February night.

More, more, more guys, please

Bxx

Harbi, you're a dreamdoll! Thanks for the praises! [Love]

Unfortunately for Wildfire fans (and I am one), we're following the postboot LEGION continuity here, as with the original MEL:TS. Wildfire was lost in limbo when last we saw him in TITANS/LEGION.

You may have noted our usage of Thunder, Dreamer, Andromeda and Kinetix... our research established that none of these 4 were present during the big "white-out", so we felt using them was a must.

We're pretty groovy in March as well, so don't stop reading!

And while *the* postboot Wildfire might not be appearing, it's not inconceivable that *a* postboot Wildfire might appear.

Posted by MLLASH on :

Squire Burroughs, maybe?

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Brother/cousin/something of Randall Burroughs, aka Atom'x? How creepy would a romance between him and Blast-Off be?

Posted by Reboot on :

And as to what happened to that postboot Legion...

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

It's really fun to type "the elusive bogwathy"!

Posted by MLLASH on :

And now-- Xapaddah!

Who da frag is that???

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

LAM, you've gotta read 'Matter-Eater Lad and the Legion of Super-Heroes' before you ask questions. That's where all the answers are!

Take a look--its hella-kewl!

Posted by legionadventureman on :

Okey-dokey, will do, Cobie!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Read all of #1 by this point!

Additional comments:

- Thunder is actually fun to read! I like her for the first time EVER!

- Dirk rocks as a Legionnaire in the post-boot!

- Lash writing Uncle Space makes me giggle like a school girl eating chocolate!

- The Nurs scenes are HYSTERICAL

- Tiffany Spiffany! I hope we see Noyd (my fave!). And Big-Toes! [Big Grin]

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Noyd was in quite a bit of trouble as of the epilogue to MEL:TS #20! I suspect we will be getting to his story by about #15 or so. It's all part of the grand vision!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Dirk: So we don't have the support of the only two U.P. Presidents who haven't been arrested, killed in office and impersonated by an eco-terrorist, or locked away in an insane asylum. I'm with Tenzil that it doesn't really matter. What's important is that we prove our actual effectiveness on missions.

[ROTFLMAO]

My co-workers are looking at me funny [LOL]

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Braino: So... hmmm. I hear you have totally space-rad nightclubs?

Storm Boy: OhmiGAWD-- the Dominators are gay? (finally see the context of that line!)

Hateface Space-rawks!

Thunder's shoes!

Johnny Banyoseed?! [LOL]

Issue #2 read like the best issues of the Legion, the Avengers, Teen Titans, X-Men and Justice League all rolled into one. Juggling subplots, storylines and 20+ characters...your biggest fan is still blow away and basks in your turbulence!

That Zappadah whatsit really needs somebody to give it a theme song like "Zappadah-Doo-Dah, Zappadah-Ay..." [Smile]

Posted by Fat Cramer on :

Still strangely compelling!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Strangely compelling is exactly what we're going for!

Posted by MLLASH on :

That beats "really crappy" ANYday!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

For some reason, the phrase "by jingos" really cracked me up.

Posted by MLLASH on :

"By jingos" is the Southern gentleman version of "By damn".

Because unlike that potty-mouth RJ Brande, Uncle Space would never use *real* swear words!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Jillikers! just 'cause I've all got a hot new boyfriend and stuff doesn't mean Eryk shouldn't write his next MEL&TLSH page!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Crap! It's been like a month since the last page was posted! Er... new page tonight!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Only three pages away from finishing #3! And things look bad for Lester!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I can't believe it took so long for someone to make fun of Dowal's hat!

Posted by MLLASH on :

*tee hee!*

Hey, I'm around all afternoon if you wanna wrap # 3 up today!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Next page is done!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Mine coming shortly-- gotta go get the laundry out of the dryer real quick--!

Posted by MLLASH on :

DONE!

I like the homage to old "test/competition" issues of the Legion; Dowal was certainly amusing to write (ad read!); Sun Boy and Thunder got in a little action; Poor Blast-Off and Insect Queen seemed to get the short end of the stick.

Zoe returning to HQ as the Legion's sexy nurse, maybe? I *really* like that idea. Ethel and the Emerald Eyes = real creepy. How long before she goes after the Empress' eye?

And we manage to touch on the Toonar/Calorie Queen/Dreamer/Uncle Sam/captured relatives subplots too. We space-rock and super-roll!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I was worried about Insect Queen and Blast Off getting ignored as well. I kept trying to come up with a way that IQ took Sun Boy's place in the punching scene, but it just seemed like Dirk was the perfect character to do it. And I expect *that* might have ramifications down the line as well.

Posted by MLLASH on :

Well, IQ has a spotlight issue slated; maybe she and Blast-Off can be on a mission together for that?

Yeah, Dirk was definitely the right one for the punch scene.

So I'm hanging out a while; want me to start up # 4?

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Go ahead. Let's commit to getting this one out a little faster.

Posted by MLLASH on :

Seeing as I've been Commitment Boy lately, Sure! Let's do it!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I apparently, am sucking at commitments!

I'll hop to it this weekend though!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Jeepers! See that you do!

I can't wait to see how Uncle Space and crew apply good, old-fashioned, home-grown gumption to get down to the surface of Toonar!

Or how and if Tenzil and crew escape the Dominators!

And will Toonar be liberated or will the so-called "Beloved Hub of the United Plaents" be lost?

I'm such a fanboy!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Er... I think I'll be taking two pages, if you don't mind!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Jillikers! Go for it!

Posted by MLLASH on :

So who do I have to have sex with around here to get Eryk to write his next page? Jeepers!! I've been patient long enough! The time for tomfoolery and summer shenanigans is over, the time for hunkering down for a long fall/winter of slamming out MEL&tLSH scripts is now!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Jumpin' fishhooks! Now that Jim Lee's signed on as the new artist for Matter-Eater Lad and the Legion of Super-Heroes, I'm all ready to start churning them out.

New page coming soon!

Posted by Mystery Lad on :

I think Palmiotti and Gray have been reading MEL:TS! Evidence? UNCLE SAM AND THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS 1&2!

Well, there's a *bit* of a resemblance to Uncle Space and his recruiting, anyway.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Guess who's off to write a page of MEL&tLSH?

Posted by MLLASH on :

Finally.

Gray & Palmiotti were almost out of ideas!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Great Space! At the rate I'm blowing all of our top-secret surprise twists, we won't have nary a cliffhanger at all for the end of this issue!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I love how I beautifully set up that possible way for Lester to discover Tiffany was missing, only to have you beautifully deflate it on the next page!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Heh heh!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Well, I just let the final cat our of the bag in regards to the LSV!

Posted by MLLASH on :

While I just brought back the one character from MEL:TS that no one demanded!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I love the *POOP!* sound effect!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Jeepers! Now there were finally producing new pages, how long will it be before Cobie reads it?

Posted by MLLASH on :

He'd better get to it!

Meanwhile, I just reread MEL:TS # 20, the mega-sized 55-page final issue blowout, and it was HILARIOUS! What fun! Too bad we just didn't have room for the Stupid Stalag characters!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Jeepers! Wait until I tell you who the super secret malevolent space power behind the Dominators is!

Posted by MLLASH on :

I can't wait to find out! Should that be our cliffhanger? I was also thinking about revealing who has captured Hate-Face, too.

Multiple cliffhangers, plus surprises galore throughout the issue-- Good Lord, what a well-written comic!!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Hmm... I think the cliffhanger could go either way.

Storm Boy is definitely uttering the line, "I knew there were gay vampires behind this!" at some point!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Looks like Braino is using his charm with the ladies. I bet 'Minnie' will have a crush on him!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Braino is like the James Bond of our series!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Holy sins! Thank space for the handy dandy recap page! There sure is a lot of stuff going on! I'll try to bang out a page tonight-- after Desperate Houswives, of course. Priorities! [Wink]

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

You know... I didn't even work in the shocking reveal of Chester Spiffany!

Posted by MLLASH on :

But you HAVE just given me an idea for my page.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Jillikers! At this rate we should be calling this "ALL-STAR MATTER-EATER LAD: THE SERIES"!

I'll write some more this weekend.

Posted by MLLASH on :

Fortunately, I didn't hold my breath! [Wink]

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Well, leapin' jeepers! Guess who finally wrote that page!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Sizzling Sirius! Paging EDE! Requesting a PM pow-wow to get the book up and rolling again!

Posted by MLLASH on :

I may be slower than that guy who writes WONDER WOMAN and YOUNG AVENGERS, but after 3-plus months and a complete re-reading of MEL&tLSH, my next page is UP!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Great gravy!

Well, I'll try to get my page done a little bit faster... [Wink]

Posted by MLLASH on :

After a re-read (and a current re-instatement of the 'net at work), I'm all a-twitter to get MEL&tLSH:TS going again!

Posted by MLLASH on :

And going again it is... Lord, how I've missed writing Dr. Mayavale...

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

[Bump]

Posted by Question Lad on :

What is Matter-Eater Lad's upper limit? Could he eat a Starro?

Posted by MLLASH on :

MEL can eat ANYTHING that is:

A) Not made of magnozite

and

B) Not a biological product of planet Bismoll

(right, EDE?) Let's let EDE verify please!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

That's right!

As far as amounts he's limited only by the speed at which his internal "nuclear furnace" (as Calorie Queen describes it) can convert the matter into energy.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Widget = breakout star of the new Matter-Eater Lad series? Only time will tell! Breep!

What cool villains can we expect to see?

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Hmm... better leave that question for Lash. He's in charge of the official "cool characters to use" list!

Posted by MLLASH on :

[LOL] I wasn't aware of that-- I better get cracking on making that list!

I can say without hyperbole that I already absolutely J'ADORE Widget! I must bow to you for opening up that door, sir! *bows to EDE*

I myself am suspecting that Elza Perkins might be in the running for breakout star! [Big Grin]

Posted by MLLASH on :

EDE!!!! Are you having issues? You knew getting re-involved with me as a co-writer meant me having the occasional meltdown!

Fortunately I'm not having one now... PM a bro with your latest gym-bag full of ideas. We were totes on a roll there...

Posted by MLLASH on :

I'll get on this maybe tonight, definitely tomorrow!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Hey EDE saw and loved your page!

It may be a bit before I can manage to get back into the special swing of things that MEL deserves; if you get a hankering to write more pages have at it! You know I'll jump in headfirst as soon as I can!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I'll probably just wait until you're ready, unless inspiration just suddenly strikes!

Posted by MLLASH on :

I feel like I'm back. [Smile]

Posted by MLLASH on :

Well, the Shvaughn gag was sheer jeenyus. I'll need a bit to collect myself to be worthy to follow that!

Posted by MLLASH on :

I was forced to do a lameola vamping page, but I tried to make it cute.

Posted by MLLASH on :

I was at a loss, so I've just gone with full-blown 4th wall-breaking Tenzil...

Posted by MLLASH on :

Okay, I went ahead and ended the issue... now the question becomes, did I end it interestingly enough to bring Eryk back to co-writing??!?

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Jeepers! Oddly enough... that's freakishly similar to what I was thinking for the end of the issue!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Great fourth-dimensional minds! [Smile]

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Hmm... who *is* Calamity Queen?

A gender-reversed Calamity King?

A previously unknown sister or other relative of Calamity King?

A stalkerish fan in a desperate gambit to imitate her favorite hero?

Stay tuned... 4D fans!

Posted by MLLASH on :

She's a clean slate, all for you! I must attempt a doodle...

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Oh, trust... I *know* who she is! [Wink]

Posted by MLLASH on :

Excellent!! Tell me when you're ready for me to do a page! [Smile]

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I think I'll take one more, but it'll be late tonight before I get to it!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Okay! So you can take it whenever you like!

Posted by Exnihil on :

"Shvaughn Erin! And I thought you were a man!"

[spit-take] [LOL] [/spit-take]

But what's the big idea reusing the panel from Issue 1 - page 20 on Issue 2 - page 2? You guys been reading Keith Giffen's 5YL Guide to Art Economy or something?

Posted by MLLASH on :

Ah, good stuff! I will totally get on the next page today!

Posted by MLLASH on :

"Why, I'm much more important!" Aaaah, Lester's back... with no holds fourth-dimensionally-barred!

Gonna take a little time with the next page, so I won't have to vamp for it [Smile]
