The server had a hiccup this afternoon, and as a result we lost the last few days of the original Project Runway thread . At the suggestion of Gary and Scott, the old thread was closed in case it was made unstable by the hiccup. So here is the new thread!

Sorry for the inconvenience, but if you posted any artwork in the original thread in the past few days, please repost it here. Thanks!

Thanks Ded! I wish I had more than one piece to contribute to kick it off, but unfortunately it's been a really unproductive couple of weeks around here. More to come soon though.

I guess I'll post my groups shot that I have so far here too, just incase anyone has missed my micro thread. I probably won't be posting any micros today, too much to do.

Here's my first contribution to the new thread: Spellbinder versus The Rattler! I wanted to try a fist fight image, and got some of my inspiration from the cover of Infinite Crisis #3 (mostly for arm positioning). Originally, the guy getting hit was going to just be some guy, but I was not feeling the way the legs were turning out, so I figured why not lose the legs altogether and go for some kind of snake man. When in doubt... improvise [Wink]

Anyhoo, hope you like!

I'm missing a handful of images from the original thread. I'll have to repost, I guess.

Project Runway artists!!!! I feel like we should put out an offer to LW members who haven't had their character's image designed yet. I'd be happy to contribute, but I fear there could be a lot of requests, which could become overwhelming, that's why I'm asking for a team to rally.

Hope this isn't stirring up a lot of trouble. I'm just trying to help anyone who doesn't feel included. I also thought we could create a post at each of the other forums to let those who may not come to Bits that often know.

Nightcrawler made a list for Kat, so I thought we could have something like that. Maybe there should be a separate thread, though, called the LMBP CHARACTER DESIGN THREAD. We get all the details sorted out there, then post the results here. Maybe Kat would even turn each of the designs into a micro doll, increasing the size of the amazing group shot?

Sound good? Crazy?

I'd love to see a picture of me! The LMBP Spectre started off as the body of Donna Troy with the powers of the Spectre (so a green/white costume with cloak and cape), but I've really grown to love the Dean Lee avatar I use. Maybe a Donna Troy-ish body with the hair & mask of this avatar, then the cape/cloak?

Thanks!

Absolutely [Love] this!

Very Silver Age and another very dynamic pose! And the Rattler is just the kinda retro villain that I love--both innuendo and silver age-ness, depending on the mood. [Big Grin]

I feel like this could have been the cover to LMB Presents #18!

Tease Time! [tease]

Firstly, A preview of the "Mother of all group pics"...which features every design Ive done so far, plus a few more. Ive taken a fair bit of time with it, and it looks supercool....but it still needs to be reduced to a smaller size, cuz its massive right now. So anyway...it started with this and grew from there: Click for fullsize image

And next, a preview of the designey goodness that is to come. As I posted in PR1 before it crashed, Ive got quite a few to post when I get home (which Im not) BUT I did actually upload this before I left...and forgot.

Anyway, heres SPACE RANGER Click for fullsize image

The problem with doing all these designs is that sometimes all I can really do is interperate the name....so with Space Ranger, I couldnt help but think "Walker, Texas Ranger" (because its a guilty 3am pleasure) So I went with that. So my version of Spacey isnt really very Mon-el-ey...well maybe with a change of colour scheme...but I think it works anyway. Iwas going to add a Jonah Hex-ish scar. but didnt. In any case I hate drawing cowboy hats.

Alright! So we've got joe-boy, Vee, Ded, Kat and myself all signed in! Cru, I kinda assume you're on as well, since you started this whole idea. It's just that assuming's bad. Next step is to promote the idea all over the board.

Also, the LMBP Spectre is our first "customer." Anyone on that one?

Okay...

Hey, Vee! I'd love to see the CoH version of Sketch Lad. I'd be happy to do a drawing of you, as well! Funny that's never happened yet. I guess that's part of why I wanted to put out that call for requests.

Sentient, Amazingly you have come up with an uncanny likeness to the vision that I like to call "The Inner Ranger." Ever since I was knee high to a short duck I've admired the Lawmen of the American West and in times of trouble I've asked myself the burning question "What would Randolph Scott Do?"

So that drawing is both incredible and poeticly accurate.

I thank you, Sir.

Posted by legionadventureman on :

I remember Randolph Scott, Space Ranger - according to old Terran legend, he and Cary Grant were getting it on together...

Posted by Rockhopper Lad on :

What we know for certain, LAM, is that they shared a house at one point in the '30s. Why two successful young actors would have found it necessary to share a domicile has been the subject of many rumours.

Posted by legionadventureman on :

Still, if Mr. Grant were still alive and still in his 30's, i would have gotten it on with him, like that "snaps fingers". He was definitely the George Clooney of yesteryear - or was that Errol Flynn?

My first reaction is to be all flattered that I'm so "unique." However, based on the other designs I've seen you do, *anything* will be awesome. Don't be afraid to do something new/different! I'll be sketching again soon. I've been pretty busy recently....

Awesome Loser!!!! Even better than I had it pictured in my head. Me thinks I have to do more group shots for you to do [Big Grin]

[LOL] @ Faraway.......heh, I didn't really notice where your hands were going when I drew this....perhaps you're just "helping" them fly?

Vee.....I like it!!! The colour gradient going down the costume works really well.

oops...missed a couple......

Spellbinder, great stuff as usual. Spellbinder vs the Snakeman is cool, nice to see some action shots. LMBP Spectre looks great too, can't wait to see this in colour too.

Joe-boy......umm, so you say she's 18 now? [Big Grin]

Vee, I think it's GREAT!!! I especially like the way the gradation of color works and I like the chest design. Good hair, too!

Posted by Vee on :

I'm glad you like it Dean. I was thinking as I was trying to come up with a design that you would need a palette of colors to work your artistic powers. What better way to make sure that you always have a full spectrum to work with than to have it be a part of your uniform.

Someone else had drawn you with "Wolverine-like" retractible claws with pens/brushes on the tips. So I figured you could use those by dipping them into the exact color on your outfit that you need to do your stuff! [Big Grin]

This is something that I finished up just before the convention: The Legion World Founders!

I think I probably modified the costumes for Scott, Caroline and Gary at least a little, because I didn't have my original sketches of them handy and was going from memory (never a good thing). I think I'm relatively close to my original designs though.

Totally new designs are the Spellbinder outfit (not majorly new... just modified somewhat) and the Kid Prime Outfit. Wasn't sure how I wanted to go with him. I tried for a combination Transformer/Iron Man look. Not sure how it turned out.

Anyhoo, without further ado, here it is! [Big Grin]

Thanks, Joe and Vee!

I was checking things out today, and the SG one IS pretty close... I changed the collar, but that was a conscious choice I made. Another conscious choice was shortening LL's coat, but otherwise I think that was pretty close too.

The Nightcrawler one was close, except that I messed up the shoulders. I kinda thought it didn't look quite right, but oh well... everyone needs a change of clothes [Wink]

sort of a Grell-era Chemical King, but with a goatee (see pic in album)

blue lycra pants bike-shorts-length with a top inspired by B&D gear or the Mike Grell Colossal Boy.

A mischeviously phallic "L" somewhere on the uniform.

fingerless gloves and boots no higher than mid calf

Glad you like it! I've been trying to come up with a design for you for quite some time but had been drawing a blank until I saw Joey's drawing. Then I knew exactly what I wanted to do. His use of the tragedy & comedy faces reminded me that you do stage shows and I thought it worked well as your personal symbol. I also like the way the two colors come together.

Lad Boy, do you have any ideas on what you want to see? Colors? Style? Any favorite hero you want to resemble?
sort of a Grell-era Chemical King, but with a goatee (see pic in album)

blue lycra pants bike-shorts-length with a top inspired by B&D gear or the Mike Grell Colossal Boy.

A mischeviously phallic "L" somewhere on the uniform.

fingerless gloves and boots no higher than mid calf

Hmmmm...that could be tough to do in CoH's character creator. Not sure how close I can get but I'll give it a shot when I get home. SOme of the others here can probably come much closer to your description so hopefully one of them will give it a shot.

Cru, couldn't you just add 3 little circles: one in his right hand, one in mid air center, and one just above his left hand and then draw curved lines connecting them?

Glad you like it! I've been trying to come up with a design for you for quite some time but had been drawing a blank until I saw Joey's drawing. Then I knew exactly what I wanted to do. His use of the tragedy & comedy faces reminded me that you do stage shows and I thought it worked well as your personal symbol. I also like the way the two colors come together.
this was a suggestion from Seymore himself...I wasnt to sure about the ruffle-neck thingy but decided to go with it anyway. Im never to sure about most things but they end up looking ok.

I guess then it's a good thing that the only Power Ring in the Quank Family belongs to Pagan Lass (Even though Abin wears it).

Sketch Lad has had some changes. For the full story, please read "LMBP Onevision: The Color Guides." After the battle and power change-up, Sketchy decided on an image change, too. He's chosen to go with a look reminiscent of his favorite Legionnaire, Dream Girl. The gemstone on his belt buckle contains the life forces of the Color Guides, the living embodiments of Blue, Red and Yellow. Sketch Lad is still untested on weilding their great energies. He looks forward to further LMB adventures in his new era.

Um...I don't know what these were, but rather than post "a bit naughty pics" here to save. I'd suggest if your computer is having problems and you want to save something to an online server, try e-mailing them to yourself. That way you can open and save the attached files whenever you need them, but they rest on the mailservers' computer and not your own.

Very cool, Cru!

Since I have no real drawing talent, I've turned to the City of Heroes costume creator, as well. I don't want to steal Vee's thunder, though, so I just tweaked myself a bit with his and Joe-Boy's ideas. I just wish I had a way to do the ruffle. The closest CoH comes is a spiked collar, and it just didn't look right. CoH also doesn't let me do bare arms, which I also really like about Joe-Boy's design. Oh, well. But I think the pink beard works just ducky!

Semi, what would you like a costume for your online persona to look like? I assume something like Lyle's, but what details would make it different?

Tempest, if I don't respond to all of your micros, you must forgive me, but I do think they are just great. As I've said before, I'm always thrilled to see one of my sketches transformed into one, and that Loser Lad micro confirms that. The cape works! Thank you.

Spellbinder, you're sort of in Wasp territory where you always look like you, but the detailing changes from time to time. It's great that a character can be so readily identifiable, despite alterations. I'm even wondering if changing Sketch Lad's look was a dumb idea....

Dean, given my career as LW bartender, I think my logo would incorporate a martini glass. Maybe as a tatoo, exposed by a daring, yet not too risque costume. I think I'd probably be wearing more than a SHAKES silver thong. [Wink]

Posted by Spellbinder on :

I've drawn Caroline a couple of times before, but the costume I had designed was based more on her current, more advisory role (casual, mother/teacher figure). Today I thought I would expand on that design and create the look I think she might have used as a more active, go-on-missions kinda gal [Smile]

Presenting... Saturn Girl!

You know it took me a while to remember what this look reminded me of.

Then it came to me tonight. Its the costumes from the original Star Trek film, the one with the bald headed female lead. I think its the belt area.

But as usual I think this is an excellent bit of work Cru, love the pose.

Haha. I thought the same thing, man! Well, kinda. I thought of Troy at the start of TNG with the blue dress uniform and white go-go boots. The horror. [Wink]

But definitely love it Cru. [Smile] It's adorable.

If I spent as much time designing costumes for everyone else as I do for me... [Wink]

This is something I did last night. My initial goal was to try out the pose (as usual, a new George Perez drawing I found was my inspiration), and then once I got going, I figured I might as well try a costume tweak [Smile]

I suppose I'm thinking light purple for the color scheme, although I'm open to other colors. The background is supposed to be like a multi-colored mosaic thingy [Smile]

Anyhoo... enjoy!

Cru, love the latest Spellbinder pic! The flowing cape is kick-ass!

Okay, so this was a little more ambitious than I normally do. I've been working on this for about two weeks now, although the actual drawing only started about 4 days ago. This image features characters that I have drawn in the past, most of which I designed the outfits for (with the exception of maybe Kid Marvel and Shadowplay in Candlelight, I think). Now, if I didn't get your character in there, it was not meant as a personal slight... I was just running out of room and getting tired [Smile]

Plus, there is a larger image available for viewing (or coloring [Wink] ).

Hope you enjoy!

Just in case anyone isn't sure who all is in the pic (from top to bottom):

Beagle Boy, White Raven, Abin Quank
Icefire, Arachne, Gigglebot, Faraway Lad, Lardlad
Shadowplay in Candlelight, Crusader, Nightcrawler, Invisible Brainiac
Ultra Matt, Caliente, Vee (with Emerald Eye), Kid Marvel
Loser Lad, Spellbinder, Cobalt Kid, Saturn Girl, Lightning Lad, Fat Cramer

So, a while ago now, Sketch Lad had a change in powers. He began channeling three goddesses who come to aid him in times of need. Sketch decided to change his image when that happened, he cut his hair very short and turned it platinum. He also began wearing a platinum outfit to complete a new look.

Seems like things have changed back to normal for Sketch Lad. Evidently, the energies of those female dieties have faded, Sketch Lad rarely called upon them. His more familiar power of conjuring up quick images that come to life to assist him has re-emerged. The look has begun to go back to a more familiar style. The hair is growing and has become less silvery, the uniform/costume is more traditional LMB (if there is such a thing).

Feels right.

I've tried drawing this one several times, but I could never seem to be happy with the positioning. I was having trouble wrapping my mind around, well, someone wrapping their arms around someone else. I was using a magazine pic for reference, and for some reason translating real people to comic people was just not working for me.

In the end, I modified the pose a little, and that seems to have fixed the problem for me.

And yes, that is a new outfit for me [Smile] Not necessarily a new costume, but I have a huge closet, so... [Wink]

Hope you enjoy!

Now we know where Cobie and Crujeckie have spent a lot of their time following the Ggrrgg/Psyonia War [Love]

He he, it's me! Cool. Gosh, I haven't looked that young in years. Or that buff.... ever. [Wink] I know what you mean about the cape thing as well. I'm kind of not a fan of capes in costume designs (I'm very much of the Edna Mode school on that one) but then again you need something to flap around and look dramatic. That's why the Queen of Diamond has the long coat on. [Big Grin]

The shirtless look suits Gaylipso a lot I thihnk. I also like the fact that there's something a bit... not untrustworthy, but something about the look on his face that makes him look like you don't quite know what he's up too. He could be about to burst into a big song and dance routine or suddenly try to take over the universe.

I finally got around to the Cobalt Kid re-design I've been toying with. My idea is that he would wear an outfit that would compliment his powers. So, the cape, boots, wristbands and belt are all made with a metallic fabric, which Cobie can manipulate magnetically. For instance, with magnetic enhancement, the cape could become virtually bulletproof.

Hope you enjoy!

Joe, your stuff is always some of the best we get here at Legion World but that first Saturn Girl is absolutely stunning. Fantastic pose and style and incredibly expressive with fairly simple lines. Just superb, sleek, quite elegant, and more functional in my being more covered up -- than I'm used to, anyway [Smile] Sorry about my missing it until now. And I'd love to see this in color, if anyone's thus inclined.

I'm glad you used the rising-to-the-pectorals look also suggested by Grell's design for Cosmic Boy, often disdained by fans for "being held on by his personal magnetism" [Wink] ... well, I've always liked it, and saw it as quite striking and sexy, on both men and women.

Is the "Azrael design" one for the mysterious winged Teen Titan associate who sometimes used that name? I always liked that look and thought others made great use of it as well. Or is it the fallen angel in other stories?

I went ahead and added your sketch (an ImageShack copy) to the Greybird gallery here in Bits -- thanks!

This one is the "serious" one. This is probably as close to what I imagine RhL would look like as I've seen. The background is my addition, so it can be seen better.

This is the fun one. It's too cute not to share it with everyone.

What can I say? I'm obsessed with my own wardrobe [Wink]

This is a little something I threw together at lunchtime. Hope ya like it!

After-thought: I've been thinking about what colors I might like to use, and I'm thinking about going with blues. Darker blue to highlight the black areas on the leggings and sleeves, then a lighter blue for the center sections. The boots I'm leaning toward white, and then the gloves will be silverish. The hair is actually much shorter than I usually do... typically it falls all the way down the back, where in this pick I'm guessing it's down to the shoulder blades.

Here is the companion costume for Crusader. I've been tinkering around with it for a few days, and I'm kinda happy with the result. Seems weird to not have a cape, but oh well [Smile]

Hope you like!

Crujeckie looks great as always!

And I like the matching look for Crusader! I kinda like the short sleeves/longer hair/open collared look (not sure what to call the last one). With no cape, it makes Crusader appear more energetic and more 'ready for action'.

Thanks!

I wasn't sure if I wanted the same collar for Crusader that I used for Crujectra, but thought it kinda had an Aqualad look to it, so though it would be okay. And the short sleeves were kinda new... I haven't designed many costumes with them, but thought it might look okay.

I will definitely be fixing the belt on Crusader's costume, making it a seperate piece from the shirt, like Crujectra's. Otherwise the color scheme I have in mind won't really work right.
