Okay, so I figured I would start a gallery of my own for images that I'm doing that don't technically fit into Project Runway (that aren't really designs or redesigns).
So here we go!

I did this while watching Desperate Housewives. This was originally posted in MMB.
There is a regular (1024x768) version here:
And a jumbo version (extra large for coloring ) here:
Originally I was going to do a take off on George Perez's cover to Infinte Crisis #1, but I felt that there was no way I could come close to that, so I decided to do a different spin on things. My choices for characters that I included were mainly just people I could remember off the top of my head who played some sort of role in things somewhere. The thing behind Crusader is meant to be a Dalek... I got an image off the internet and tried to make something similar. Hopefully I got the right kind of Dalek
Anyhoo, hope you like!

Wow! Cru's going all Perez and stuff! Very Nice!
Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
Cru, I love all these shots. You've created such a dynamic, action-oriented style that works so well! I love the group shots and the way you've worked so many characters in!
Posted by Loser Lad on :
You're definitely getting more adventurous with your drawings, and that's a good thing.
Good to see you've finally set up your own gallery thread too! You deserve a little showcase of your own!

Sure is nice to see Gary just hanging around and relaxing instead of working, working, working all the time!
Posted by Spellbinder on :
I was going to have him juggling, but couldn't quite figure out how to make that work
Posted by Cartoon Lad on :
Who was the member who had the Green Lantern pic done?
Posted by Vee on :
Cartoon Lad, it was Abin Quank that had the Lantern pic drawn by you. Great job on that, BTW. I thought it was gorgeous.

Posted by Caliente on :
Oooh. I really like the new costume Cru!! Can't wait for more.
Posted by Invisible Brainiac on :
Lovely work, Cru!
Posted by Spellbinder on :
Thanks, Cali and Sweetie
I redrew the pic today, changing the pose somewhat:
Posted by Spellbinder on :
A more active look for Caroline:
Originally I was going to draw a background behind her in that center panel, but then I thought I might leave it blank so that Loser dear would have a place to play in case he should want to color this

Cool look.

Posted by Nightcrawler on :
Wow. Your stuff's looking more and more Perez-like with each piece. You may just be the next Phil Jiminez!
Very beautiful! Especially your take on Nighty. Excellent!

Thanks!
Of course, I was just noticing that Shady and Caroline have almost the exact same face. I guess being "surprised" will do that for you. Thank goodness for different hairstyles and earrings!
Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
Nighty's right when he says you're channelling Perez! Each new pic is better than the next! I love how you're doing story themes too, Cru. Can't wait for more!
Posted by Spellbinder on :
Hope you had a chance to read the story, too
Posted by Spellbinder on :
Okay, so this was a little more ambitious than I normally do. I've been working on this for about two weeks now, although the actual drawing only started about 4 days ago. This image features characters that I have drawn in the past, most of which I designed the outfits for (with the exception of maybe Kid Marvel and Shadowplay in Candlelight, I think). Now, if I didn't get your character in there, it was not meant as a personal slight... I was just running out of room and getting tired
Plus, there is a larger image available for viewing (or coloring ).
Hope you enjoy!

Wow, your stuff are incredibly wonderful pieces of work... they're practically oozing fun and love for the characters and the different wild ideas and stories you can put them in. It really helps that the linework is so clean; no distractions from the power point! Mo' powuh, Ms. Perez... uh, Spellbinder!
Posted by Spellbinder on :
Thanks!
Even when I used to color my own stuff, I always tried to keep my inks clean, and tried to introduce shading through the coloring. Big areas of black I will do through ink, but other shadows just looked better to me when done using shades of color
Posted by mon-el73 on :
Any links to your colored stuff? BTW, I dunno why but the link to the "larger image" of all the LMBers leads me to the same image as the "smaller" one...
Posted by Spellbinder on :

A gallery of my images (colored by either myself or Loser Lad) can be found here. There are also some more current ones in both Loser Lad's gallery thread and the Project Runway 2 thread, both of which can be found here in Bits.

I'm not sure about the big hair, though. The bang look seems to work better for me with a hairband...
Posted by legionadventureman on :
Your stuff is always great, Cru - even better when they are in colour
Posted by Spellbinder on :
I want to keep this thread on page one, so I guess I gotta keep drawing
Anyhoo, I've tried drawing this one several times, but I could never seem to be happy with the positioning. I was having trouble wrapping my mind around, well, someone wrapping their arms around someone else. I was using a magazine pic for reference, and for some reason translating real people to comic people was just not working for me.
In the end, I modified the pose a little, and that seems to have fixed the problem for me.
And yes, that is a new outfit for me Not necessarily a new costume, but I have a huge closet, so...
Hope you enjoy!
Posted by Faraway Lad on :
I can see what your aiming for Cru.
When I look at this one i get this huge sense of love and affection between the two of you. This is a really happy picture.
Cobalt looks all "leading man" ish. Whilst you are just full of joy. (plus I am always a sucker for the short skirt look)
Posted by Spellbinder on :
Cobie and Crujectra are definitely old friends, and they do share love (which seems to pass back and forth between romance and friendship). I think Crujectra probably sees Cobie more clearly than any other woman besides Space Tart, and because of that I think she understands him better than most.
Posted by Spellbinder on :
I finally got around to the Cobalt Kid re-design I've been toying with. My idea is that he would wear an outfit that would compliment his powers. So, the cape, boots, wristbands and belt are all made with a metallic fabric, which Cobie can manipulate magnetically. For instance, with magnetic enhancement, the cape could become virtually bulletproof.
Hope you enjoy!
Posted by Spellbinder on :
As Cobie put it:
"Following the Ggrrgg/Psyonia War, the two embark on a small mission to enjoy each other's company outside of the galactic war setting"
Of course, when celebrities like the LMBP travel, the paparazzi are never far behind
The first photo was taken as the pair hit the sands in their new beachwear:
The next photo was taken outside a trendy eatery as the couple step out in more formal eveningwear:
More to come as the pictures hit the news wire!
Posted by Caliente on :
Ohmigod Cru... I love Cobie's shorts. So awesome.
Great stuff!! I can't wait for more.
Posted by Spellbinder on :
They seemed like something he might wear
Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
They're perfect
And the formal wear pic is magnificent! I love it! Crujeckie looks so beautiful.
'Ah, the media is in a frenzy indeed. It seems maybe Crujeckie and Cobie's relationship might be changing following the Ggrrgg/Psyonia War...is it something more serious?' - LMB Enquirer
Posted by Spellbinder on :
Well, turning your backs on your homeworlds for each other is bound to change people...
Posted by Spellbinder on :
The paparazzi were invited to attend a charity magno ball contest between the vacationing LMBPers as Cobalt Kid pit his magnetism against Spellbinder's telekinesis.
Posted by Cobalt Kid on :
'When asked if there was any end in sight for this vacation, Cobalt Kid simply grinned and said "I hope not", and flew off with Crujectra, drinking a martini.'
Crujeckie's hair looks really good in the latest pic! The inter-galactic press must be having a field day

Cru you nailed it just right nice pic.
Posted by Spellbinder on :
Thanks, John. I think I have a limited grasp of anatomy, and for many years drew mostly variations of the same basic poses. Now that I'm trying to branch out somewhat, I'm forced to research a little more to find photos or drawings that feature similar poses to what I need.
It's kind of a pain, especially for what is, essentially, a hobby, but I've been more or less happy with the results, so I guess it's worth the effort

Another vacation paparazzi photo:

Crujeckie is looking gorgeous!
Another nice vacation pic, this one in their casual wear. Obviously, both are going to sigh soon when they realize the vacation can't go on forever...
UP Reporters, however, are left trying to figure out what this means for Spellbinder and Cobalt Kid...is there more going on in their relationship than before? Posted by Spellbinder on :
I'm still a little sore from that vacation.
I got a bit of a sunburn that last day

I'm really fond of these two!
One thing I like about being here, is that you can turn on your computer when friends are over and say, "Hey, look at this pic, it's really good!"
It's nice to see so many artists display their talents. So, keep the great work, Cru, it is very much appreciated!

Well, since I got my laptop and transferred Paint Shop Pro to it, I've been itching to play around, so I decided to color one of my pics.

Wow! That's beautiful Michael! Really, really nice!
Posted by Caliente on :
Cru, I think it's lovely. And that is definitely a favorite of mine so I'm glad you colored it. ^_^
Posted by Spellbinder on :
I definitely like the new background and frame I added better than the old pic. Maybe it's sitting on Cobie's desk at the Security Office, or perhaps on my vanity workbench at home
Although I am crap at figuring out lighting and stuff, I am trying to put some sort of shadows in, even if they aren't necessarily in the right places
Glad you liked it, though!
Posted by Spellbinder on :
This is another that I colored this weekend: The House of Jectra.
I kinda went a little different on my color schemes this time. Crujectra is dressed in shades of red now, as opposed to her usual purples and pinks. Crusader has a much darker blue than I typically give him. Maxx I'm not too sure about. I think the green might be too much. I'm sorta wishing now I had gone with brown and dark green, but it's too late to fix it now
The background again is something I added (from a wallpaper I had on my computer.
I dunno... I like it. I think the colors kinda pop on this one

This one was for my Enter: The Nanobots OneVision I did a while back. I kinda like how it turned out

They all look amazing!
I really love, love, love the Cobie/Crujeckie pic. It looks absolutely beautiful, especially colored and framed! That might be my favorite LMB pic ever! The rumors of Cobie and Crujeckie love affair becoming more serious seem more and more likely!
And Crusader's costume still has that Perez feel to it that you channel so well Cru.
Posted by Spellbinder on :
Glad you enjoyed them, guys. I was pretty happy with how each turned out.
And Cobie, you know what they say about rumors: there's always some amount of truth behind them

LOL Great work, Cru.
Posted by Spellbinder on :
I tried coloring it last night, but I haven't quite figured out how to get her arms to look like they're covered in fur. Each attempt only made her look very tan
Posted by Dain on :
I love your art, Spellbinder. You have a great sense of design and a smooth hand. Your lines give me a sense of controlled flow and liquidity.
I'm sure I'll enjoy all those characters more when I read their LMBP stories.
I also like the vividness and energy of your color work.
Posted by Spellbinder on :
It's sweet of you to say. I'm afraid I'm not real good with shading and stuff, so I think my art looks kinda plain That's why I sometimes try to spruce up the backgrounds
And in many cases, I can't take credit for the coloring. I have colored some of these, but alot of them were colored by Legion World's own master colorist, Loser Lad. That's why some of them are in black and white: I'm hoping that Lou will return and I want him to have something to color
Posted by Dain on :
I don't think it's plain at all. What you don't express in shading, you express through your lines. You art IS "linear" but it's also between realistic and cartoony. This means you can go either way fairly easily. The exactness and fluidity of your art can be used either to sketch more realistic bodies and faces, full of little details which must be placed correctly, or be used in the greater exaggeration of cartoon characters!
I saw all of your art in this topic at the same time and I noticed that you've gotten more and more comfortable and exact in your line work, that's why I'm emphasizing this aspect of your artistic skills. One could say you've got the best of both "worlds". Realistic and cartoony!
Please, don't get me wrong. I'm not an authority on art, even though I studied Applied Graphic Arts for a couple of years, but that's how I feel about your art.
