Dean suggested I add a gallery of my Legion works. So, I will. This is what I've done over the past few years. I suspect this site will now be inspiring more new Legion art from me.

I'll be posting these in roughly chronological order. Starting out is Shadow Lass. This was done in colored pencil on paper.

I never really considered Sensor/Jeka the Snake to be the same character as the human Princess Projectra. So I designed a reboot-era costume for her.

Tried my hand at Nura as she could appear in an animated version. I was watching "Saber Marionette J" at the time, and was influenced also by those character designs.

Edit: Due to width, changed to use a thumbnail (the normal THUMB tag, for doing this,
lost too much detail) and re-hosted -- click for larger version in new window

Beautiful work Laurie, I remember seeing a couple of these at Legionpics long long ago, welcome to Legion World and thank you SO much for sharing.

I just clicked over to look at your site and you do some really beautiful work. I know I can speak for everyone when I say you're very welcome to post as much artwork here as you like and speaking just for myself I'd like to add...please? [Big Grin]

The talented Laurie has been active for many years on the LegionFiction Yahoo! Group, which has unfortunately had a decline in interest recently. She was among those who created the Group's sizable archives of fan fiction and related fan art. (Along with the late, sweet, story-prolific Dannell Lites, whom many of us miss.)

Welcome to LegionWorld, milady! (Well, especially to this selection of your art, as you've been on the roster a while.) I seem to recall an invitation a couple years back to you and other LegionFiction denizens, but not many 'ficcers or artists took us up on it then ... and I know I've asked Christian more than once to stop by!

Since others have posted not-quite-Legion work here, and at least one other "Utena" fan has made herself known, I thought I could share my long work-in-progress "Legion of the Rose". This is a fusion fanfic of "Legion of Super-Heroes" and "Revolutionary Girl Utena".

I consider this a fusion rather than a cross-over because the stories are merged, rather than starting each story intact and then bringing the characters and storylines together. Here, the Legion is made up of the "Utena" characters, but many of the familiar LSH concepts will appear.

I don't have the *story* written beyond a collection of notes. But I've been drawing the characters, and will post some of those.

Posted by Suncat on :

In my LSH/Utena fusion, Juri Arisugawa is the telepath of the group. This version has four founding members, of which Juri is one.

 -

While her natural powers are among the strongest ever recorded among her people for someone of her age, she and other Legion scientists have developed a helmet which augments her abilities to span "short" interstellar distances.

Kozue Kaoru is one of a pair of twin siblings, and the "Lightning Lass" of this Legion.

 -

Her costume is indeed the same as what I showed on Ayla earlier. I designed it for Kozue, but realized it was perfectly appropriate for Ayla too.

 -

Posted by Suncat on :

Miki Kaoru is Kozue's twin brother. He is also a lightning caster, and one of the Legion's top scientists.

Wakaba Shinohara boasts superhuman agility, strength and acrobatic skills.

 -

Posted by Suncat on :

I haven't quite defined the powers for Nanami Kiryuu yet. Something mental, but not true telepathy. Maybe something akin to Raven's empathic powers.

She's also a fashion maven, and will modify aspects of her costume quite often.

 -

Posted by Suncat on :

Touga Kiryuu is Nanami's older brother, and one of the four founding members of the Legion. His power is temperature control, being able to raise or lower the internal temperature of physical materials. He is also the current Legion leader.

I wasn't going to post this stuff either, until I saw the amount of non-LSH work in other people's galleries. And given that I'm keeping a very strong visual LSH theme in my story, I thought it would be okay.

I'd love pointers to other Legion/whatever crossovers that might be here at Legion World. There is just so much material here, I'm afraid I'll never find all the things of interest to me.

I don't have all the characters drawn yet, but here's a list of the characters who are Legion members and their powers.

Utena Tenjou - super speed
Wakaba Shinohara - super strength, agility, acrobatics (think Timber Wolf)
Touga Kiryuu - temperature control, both heat and cold
Nanami Kiryuu - empathy, emotion projection
Juri Arisugawa - telepathy, limited precognition
Ruka Tsuchiya - matter state manipulation (remember Quicksand?)
Miki Kaoru - electricity control
Kozue Kaoru - electricity control
Kyouichi Saionji - weapons master, martial arts
Keiko Sonoda - insubstantiability
Tatsuya Kazami - invisibility
Mitsuru Tsuwabuki - darkness and light manipulation (sort of a combination of Shadow Lass and Sun Boy)
Shiori Takatsuki - shrinking, martial arts

As for the other major characters Anthy, Akio, Mikage, Mamiya and Tokiko, they also have roles in this story but they are not Legion members.

Maybe heat generation *while* purring? Soft purrs could put people into a drowsy state in which they are susceptible to suggestion. Louder 'meows' could be heat blasts...

I adore Steve Lightle's work. And it's actually thanks to him that I wound up here. He made a nice comment about the "reboot Projectra" piece, and told me about his ArtPost list. There, I met Dean (SketchLad). Eventually Dean told us about LegionWorld. And finally, I have time to participate here too.

As Tempest said, if you find the "Utena" story, start it at the beginning. And be aware that the "Utena" movie is actually rather different. All of my Utena fanwork is based off the TV series.

It's true, I said "sketched". But you saw correctly that the non-colored one was more of a finished pencil drawing. I took more time to clean that one up. So don't go feeling like this was the rough sketch!

Posted by mon-el73 on :

Sketch or not, Laurie, it's a moody yet beautiful look for Vi. And the lines flow smoothly enough to give that raw "sketchy" look.
Keep the faith, Sistuh!!

With time off from work for the holidays, had a chance to do a little drawing. Here's linework of Projectra. This was submitted at the OekakiCentral Coloring Book at http://www.oekakicentral.com/coloringbook/, which is why it's just linework right now. Once it's approved, I'll post a color version.

And if anyone here wants to color it, feel free. I'm afraid that the limits of oekaki produce a rather small image.

The problem is, you see, there isn't anything from the three-year gap to post. I dropped out of fandom due to unfortunate family issues, and I didn't draw hardly at all. But, issues have been resolved, and I've been slowly returning to various activities and communities. It was so nice to come back here and find LegionWorld still going strong.

SWEET JEBUS UTENA AND THE LEGION.

Posted by Suncat on :

Yeah, I've been a bad girl and been away for too long.

Today I was doing some housecleaning on my hard drive and ran across these two old drawings which I'd never uploaded before. These were based on the 1990s Re-Boot era, when Princess Projectra (as a human) and Dream Girl were not active characters in the Legion. These were my thoughts on what uniforms they might have had, given the LSH styles of the day.

Jeckie, Princess Projectra:

 -

Nura Nal, Dream Girl:

 -

Both done as sketch on paper, scanned, digitally colored in Painter.

Yes, I did do another painting of Jeckie in this costume, which you can see here.
