This one is going to happen differently...

1. Nominations. First, please nominate any female character who you think would have a nice face to put on that cover.

2. Semi finals. We will narrow the nominees down to five semi finalists! That's the quick part.

3. The semi finalists will submit face-shot pinups before the judges. The judges have been pre-determined, but will be surprises.

4. Voting will determine the winner!

So, please start off by listing your beauties....

That's a fun 5! Will Charma's man-controlling cat Titters make an appearance? Or will the other four contestants put Titters in a polymer space-trashbag and drown her first?!? (Charma too, now that I think of it!)

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

The first challenge is posted. Please name the cover girl you wish to REJECT!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Jeckie is amazing!

As is the White Witch. Both are safe or should be.

Phantom Girl may be a bit too sweet. Sade may be a bit too surly. Charma may be a bit too helpless.

Surly wins out over sweet and helpless for me. Sade is safe!

Sweet or helpless? Hmmmm... who to vote out?

*Acck!* What's that weird light-halo beaming from Charma's head? [Charma] Suddenly, I'm filled with the urge to protect her at all costs and gve her all my stuff!

PHANTOM GIRL OUT!

Posted by Doctor One on :

I vote to reject Phantom Girl.

Excellent job, Dean! As I was going through the pictures I was worried I wouldn't be able to vote anyone out. Charma and Mysa are best, in my opinion. Jeckie is excellent, too. I think Sade would look better without her cowl thingie, though.

Posted by Insomniac Girl on :

Charma: Argh! How I hate her, her radiant complexion and her beautiful ringlets!

Projectra: Cool, calm blue makes her look like so much more than us mere mortals could ever hope to achieve. I like her slightly calculating gaze. She's just too good for us.

Mysa: The red-and-white contrast is indeed very nice. Just don't know what to make of her expression, though. She looks... empty.

Sade: What attitude. She won't let anyone get away with anything. Tough is awesome.

Tinya: Aw, lurve the pigtails and her mischievous expression. Wonderful.

Vote out Charma Charma Charma Mysa.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Charma: Beautiful! Nothing special, but a nice pic.

Projectra: The picture of royal grace and elegance!

Sade: The whole tough girl/attitude thing doesn't really do it for me.

Phantom Girl: Not the best picture of her, but I'm still groovin' to it.

SADE OUT!

Posted by Dain on :

A lot of gorgeous girls again! Sketchy is really spoiling us with all those beauties! [Smile]
I love the sidestory of the judges. I see Sarya really liked the "witchy" designs from the previous contest. She liked Gas Girl's sorceress outfit (I'm sure Sarya'd become fast friends with Maleficent) and had the fashion designer whip up something for her too! She did say she wanted to meet him, didn't she? [Big Grin]

As for the contestants.

Charma is wonderful and in Grell's style. Innocent looking with a certain glint in her eyes that betrays her real motives.

Projectra is stunning. What a beauty!! Regal and elegant, slightly standoff-ish, self-assured with a touch of impertinence.

Ah, Mysa! Ethereal, magical, mysterious, she knows secrets she won't reveal. Her mask-like face hides what lies on the inside.

Sade. Uncomfortable, almost defensive. Beautiful sketch though and right on target as far as Sade's character is concerned.

Tinya. Sweet and naughty at the same time. A pixie-like glint in her eyes. The lady sees something funny and is considering commenting on what she sees. Or maybe she won't.

Reject: Sade.

PERIODICAL PULCHRITUDE

I'm judging by the following criteria: Can I see this holo as a magazine cover?

On newsstands now:

Phantom Girl. ABSOLUTELY. This could be on the cover of a top-selling women's magazines or one of the more quirky ones.

White Witch. YES. More likely to grace the cover of one of the "avant garde" (or trying to be) art publications. Heavier paper, heftier price, you know the type.

Maybe.

Princess Projectra. But I see this more as one of the pics that accompany the article inside.

Probably not.

Charma. A fine portrait, but a cover? Not so much.

OUT:

Sade.
Like Charma's, doesn't speak COVER. The cowl-thingie, oy, it's got to go! Other than the fact that I don't like it, its white color against the white background doesn't work for me. Sade is an action type o'gal, so a posed head & shoulders holo isn't likely to do her justice.

I have the next couple of challenges planned, I just need to know who's gonna be in them.

Current results:

Sade 3 votes
PG 2 votes
Mysa 1 vote

Posted by Rockhopper Lad on :

Are all beautifully done, but you may add one more vote to reject Sade.

Posted by Set on :

Charma does nothing for me. I have a willpower of steel.

Princess Projectra is gorgeous. My absolute favorite here. She's prettier than Dream Girl in this picture, and that's darn near impossible.

White Witch is my second favorite. Very effective use of contrast, but I fear that it won't be enough to carry her through multiple challenges alone...

Phantom Girl is cute. I'm not a huge fan of cute, but she's more cover-worthy than Charma.

Sade also has some effective (if more subtle) contrast, thanks to her lovely eyes. Again, she smacks that space-hussy Charma to the curb.

Vote to squeeze (out) the Charma.

Sade 4
PG 2
Mysa 1
Charma 1

I should hate Charma, but maybe her powers are turned off. So I'll reject Phantom Girl, because I never liked those pigtails.

All very nice.

I vote to reject Princess Projectra. I like her better with short hair.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Phantom Girl and Sade were tied, but I need to move to the next round, so I broke the tie. Sade's out!

The next challenge involves a little role-playing. Stay tuned!

Posted by Mystery Lad on :

It can be hard to separate what you think about a character from years of reading the LSH and their effectiveness in these competitions. For instance, I never liked Charma or Sade at all, but I think their pics here are superior to two of the official Legionnaires.

Charma-- she looks a bit like the straight-laced librarian who just took off her glasses and is about to *really* 'let her hair down'. I like that.

Princess Projectra-- doesn't really look like herself. I agree with Quislet. I prefer the short hair. Or the mid-length very curly do we first saw her with after she was revealed as Sensor Girl.

White Witch-- very moody and evocative. Perfect example of 'casting a spell' (Ha!) But now that the red/white card's been played, what will Mysa have to offer? I look forward to finding out. I'm guessing there's some strawberry blonde in her and our future?

Phantom Girl-- Tinya's always (well, almost always) exuded that 'girl next door' appeal. She does that here with a fun sense of mischief in her eyes and the lift of one of her eyebrows.

Sade-- I like the challenge in her facial expression. She's either about to burst into a tirade, a burst of laughter, a naughty comeback or song!

I would've voted out Jeckie, I think, but I missed the 'deadline'. These competitions are a bit like Musical Chairs, for the voters. That's part of the fun, though.

Whatever the challenges are, I'm campaigning to get Insect Queen and Quicksand in. I've a hankerin' to see those gals after a looooong drought.

Unless the competition is 'Space Hunk' or something. Even then, Quicksand might make it in...

Posted by Blockade Boy on :

Oh No! I LOVED the Sade cover. Very runway attitude and just gorgeous Sketch. Probably for the best to get rid of those green eyes. EE was getting ideas however there may be more than one player here...

WW's throat jewel looks familiar. Anyone else feeling like taking over the world?

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I know the voting can seem kinda hectic. I'm hesitant to try and *schedule* the poll closings, because I work on this stuff at all different times, fitting it in when I can. ML, I appreciate you saying that it's part of the fun. I don't mean to exclude anyone.

BB, I don't know the "taking over the world" reference.

[blink, blink] Role-playing? Will it involve safety words?

Or that other kind of role-playing involving attacks of opportunity?

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

Reject: Princess Projectra. Again, the long hair isn't doing it for me.

Tinya looked very sleek and sexy.

Mysa looked creepy, but as a vampire, that look works.

Charma looked dangerous.

Posted by Mystery Lad on :

PROJECTRA: Somehow, I think a mistress of illusion would project more mood into this kind of subject. Then again, would her powers 'holograph'? And would it be fair if they did?

I'll bet Jeckie could be 'difficult' for designers of sets, costumes, and lighting to work with (though the image of her judging a show like TOP DESIGN or DESIGN STAR is tantalizing...)

Anyway, something about her face doesn't work for me, though for *this* subject, I like the long hair.

PHANTOM GIRL: It's all about the expression. I like her eyes glancing sideways at as, again with a twinkle of mischief. And, of course, what goes better with vampires than ghosts?

MYSA: Maybe witches. She's going with 'less is more' here... it's possible Mysa even knows some vampires and doesn't want to buy into the stereotype?

This would have been a chance for her to use some black in her photo... to play off the pallor of her skin and the redness of her eyes, lips...

CHARMA: She's certainly relishing the energy of the theme. Y'know, she has a bit of an advantage, since she's sort of like a vampire, isn't she? Except for the drinking blood thing (that we know of, anyway).

I vote out... Jeckie. If I picked a winner, it'd have to be a tie between Tinya and Charma.

Posted by Tamper Lad on :

I'm voting off Projectra.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

That's three votes to reject Projectra.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

I'm voting Mysa

Posted by Dain on :

Hmmm, how does one decide in this challenge? "Good-looking", "scary looking" "most in character", "most out of character but good as a vampire"? Or a combination of the above?

Projectra: Not very scary but she's got "character".

Tinya: Not scary at all really, but beautiful. She could be a vampire hunter who's a vampire herself.

Mysa: Now *that* is scary and out of "character" which means great as role-playing!!

Charma: Wild! You can almost hear her hissing!

Reject Projectra.

Posted by Doctor One on :

Tinya rocked in this challenge, she looks beautiful. Charma, too, I like the dangerousness of her portrait. Mysa...well, I don't know. Iffy. Same for Projectra.

A tough decision between Mysa and Jeckie, I don't really want to see either of them go.

But it looks like there's already a majority voting against Jeckie.

I vote to reject Projectra

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I'll vote Projectra as well. Unfortunately, this just wasn't a challenge she was particularly suited for.

VAMPS

Come in

Phantom Girl. She's a vamp all right, but is she the kissing kind or the biting kind? What do you mean, you hope she does both?

Charma. It's very clear what this maneater's gonna do.

Stay out on the porch

White Witch. She looks messed up, like it'll be another 45 minutes before the dental anesthesia wears off.

Princess Projectra. Deeply, deeply unflattering angle; her chin disappeared. I doubt Princess P. is going to stand for this. Be prepared for a very high-level government sentient to come confiscate this holo. (Orando might be gone, but PP no doubt has connections she can use for just such important matters.)

OUT:

PRINCESS PROJECTRA

PS: I saw you there vampin' a little, Mister Hate Face!

So that's why I found Mysa so scary. I finished a 2-month torture at my dentist's only a couple of weeks ago. [Big Grin]

I agree about Jeckie. She could have been an old-fashioned regal vampiress but that angle was unflattering.

Please keep doing what your doing exactly as you're doing it. This couldn't be any better!

Projectra: I'm not scared of you, your heart's not in it.

Tinya: Bite Me! Please?

White Witch: Got a Sissy Spacek thing going on here.

Charma: Mommy Help!!!!

Mysa's no vampire. Rejected!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

That was fun! Farewell to Jecky. Y'know, she hasn't done well in these Pinup Model competitions. I've considered starting a thread just for her to show the real her.

The top three competition is coming soon.

Posted by Set on :

Oop. I missed it. Lazy me. I woulda voted against Projectra anyway. She started out strong, but the woman is *hopeless* without a reflection, apparently...

The top three challenge is posted! Name your reject...

Posted by Set on :

Charma and Mysa rocked the coloring. Gotta agree, what *doesn't* look good on Mysa?

Tinya, sadly, did not. Sorry PG!

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

I think Tinya is the best of the group.

Charma looks good, although sad.

The color difference in Mysa is jarring and not so pleasing.

Reject: Mysa

Posted by Caliente on :

None of these blew me away like in the last challenge (though I didn't have time to vote). However, of the three, I'd say Charma is the weakest. I just don't feel like her make-up design suits her as well as the other two.

Posted by Dain on :

All three eye-mask designs are beautiful and so are the girls. I loved them all. They remind me of my favorite Legion era, when Infectious Lass first appeared and eye decorations were quite popular in the 2970s.
Sketchy brought them up to date, though.

I agree with Marte. Charma's design looks natural on her, and Mysa's (wonderful portrait, btw) is magical and pretty and the colors make the rest of her look even more ethereal.

I like Tinya's design but something doesn't look quite right. Maybe it's the straight hairdo that clashes with the irregular design? Can't decide. As a drawing it's stunning though!

I guess I'll have to reject Tinya.

quote:
Imra: Mysa can do no wrong! What wouldn't look good on her?
Sarya: My fist? Wait, no... my fist would be an improvement!

[LOL]

I'm voting to reject Mysa.

Posted by Doctor One on :

All three portraits are very nice. I'll vote to reject Tinya, under duress.

Posted by Tamper Lad on :

It is too hard. But I must vote against Mysa.

Posted by Hunt Drouin on :

Wow, these go by so quickly. I've missed out on a couple rounds. I wish Projectra was still in this, but now my money is elsewhere...

I vote to "reject" (such a cruel word) Mysa.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

So far, it's

WW 4
PG 3
C 1

Posted by Blockade Boy on :

Charma wins my vote for best hands down but then green is my favorite color.

I Lass' choice of coloring for WW isn't working for me either, sorry to say. Not sure what she was going for here.

Reject Mysa. [Frown]

Posted by Mystery Lad on :

Jezz, what a tough round. Mysa's my favorite this time... that shade of blue goes really well with her pallor. Charma's second best, and, though lovely, Phantom Pink Lady's in third. However, Tinya's been my favorite up till now.

So, though I don't like it, I'm voting out Charma.

WW 5
PG 3
C 2

Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :

DRURA CALLING

White Witch and Charma. Bold, less-expected colors and designs. Very nice! I particularly liked Charma's.

Phantom Girl. Not as adventurous with the design -- and that would be all right, but not much is going on in this picture. That's a shame, because Tinya's been very good with expression in the previous rounds. The best, in fact. But I'm afraid...

OUT:

PHANTOM GIRL

WW 5
PG 4
C 2

Polls remain open...

I've missed the first few rounds so I don't know if my vote counts. If it does I vote out White Witch. Phantom Girl is the winner here.

WW 6
PG 4
C 2

...and those polls have closed, but the FINALE! polls are open.

Please name the WINNER of the Comic Book Cover Girl competition....

Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :

I'm glad PG survived last round. I knew that was a fluke. And guess what?

WINNER:

PHANTOM GIRL

I like that even in her melancholia Tinya is literally and figuratively keeping her chin up.

Posted by Dain on :

Sniff....Mysa would have looked wonderful in a melancholy pin-up...

Charma is a master in "melancholy" look. She's got the power, literally and figuratively, and she looks the part. Charma for the winner.

Tinya for the win.

Posted by Blockade Boy on :

Charma, she's so sad my heart is breaking.

Posted by Mystery Lad on :

They've both got reasons to be really familiar with melancholy.

I think I like Charma's better this round (two in a row), but I think overall I still prefer Tinya

Phantom Girl for the win. But just barely.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Bah! Tinya seems like she's genuine melancholy, while Charma seems like she's just acting hurt to manipulate me. I won't be fooled by *that* again!

Tinya to win!

Posted by Caliente on :

Both girls brought out their A game this round. I really feel it! Charma's eyes are so expressive and Tinya's got that dark look to her that just screams heartbreak (Damn you Jo Nah!).

But, I have to say, it's all about Tinya this time. Charma just has too much going on in her picture to truly epitomize melancholy.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Polls are closed! We have winner!

I know this one went by really fast, but that was the intention all along.

The "Lash's Lads" contest will be really quick, too, but the Freaks and Geeks Edition will be very involved and take longer to "process."

Thank you to everyone who played along with the Cover Girls. See ya at the next competitions!

Posted by Lad Boy on :

The "Lash's Lads" contest ... I can hardly wait : )

Posted by MLLASH on :

FINALLY I got to see all the pictures... I was *really* curious about the "Infectious" round!

Charma did even better than I would have thought... but looking back at Tinya's face-shots as magazine covers... she really did rock the house all the way through.

I especially had enjoyed the "Vampire" segment! FUN!!
