Flynt Brojj

Mantis Morlo (original version)

What about Thora? The Orandan serving wench that Sun Emperor gave the kiss of death too.

Update!

I have organized this entire event! Which was great fun and probably the most work. Now I'll begin drawing/writing/coloring/lettering.

I usually post a little intro first, then the challenge a bit later.

Stay tuned... this one's gonna be fun and FULL of STUFF!

One snag.... I can't find my Dr. Mayavale issue! I need a reference shot of his space trolley. Anyone got a scan?

Otherwise, I'm getting there!

Heh! There will be lots of stuff going on in this competition!

Introductions have been made! Lash has chosen a really interesting group of models and the public vote has rallied some interesting hosts and judges.

The challenges are gonna be a hoot. Stay tuned!

So, I've pencilled and written the dialogue for the first challenge. I think it's pretty fun. It'll take me some time to scan, color and letter everything, probably a couple days.

The first challenge has been posted!

Now, rather than simply name your reject, we here at Pinup Models, Inc., would appreciate it if you would fill out the following form...

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Apply these questions to each contestant's holo.
Please rate on a scale of 1 to 5; 5 being best, 1 being worst.

1. How pleasant was the holo, overall?
2. How charismatic was the model?
3. How well was the setting depicted?
4. How well did the model and setting blend?
5. How's your day going?

A mathematical tabulation will occur after the data is compiled.

Thank you, have a nice day!

Teeds sez: Aaaaaaah! You surprised me! I already had my response before I saw this! I don't type for nothin' so here's my old-school response. New-fangled one to follow.

FiGs...IN...SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!

Double Header. He looks like he's strolling through the universe.

Myron Marks. Hey, it's like the last frame of a holo serial reel. Will our hero Myron be felled by the nefarious Gorilla Nebula? Actually I think the G.N. is trying to marry Myron. Can sidekick Pigeon Kid save the day? Silver-Agey! Yay!

Grinn. Does that trolley go to Muscle-Beach...of Space? (Bonus points if you killed Mayavale.)

Weirdo Legionnaire. Nice finned swimsuit. Good for you on the super sol-screen. But...just OK.

Holdur/ Great choice in pose there.

Snaps and a space-scrunchie for Sinde. She knows what's what. Pow, right in the kisser! Damn, girl.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Ha! Caught ya, Teeds!
Actually, I do encourage comments even though there is a rating system in place.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Just for the sake of clarity, here's an example of how the rating should look...

Double Header
4,4,4,3,4

Myron
4,5,4,3,4

Grinn
4,5,2,4,4

Weirdo
5,5,4,4,4

Holdur
5,5,4,4,4

Please be brutally honest!

The numbers shall be crunched, then a result will follow. It's all kinda hush-hush high tech stuff going on behind the scenes!

Freaks and Geeks have had enough blatant rejection, universally speaking. If they are to be subjected to such scrutiny, it is only reasonable that there be a system in place, which aids in determining not only who should be rejected, but why said rejection has occurred.

Thank you for your time!

What struck me after viewing Double-Header is the relevation that actually all bipedal sentinents should have two heads. That would be much more symmetrical - two heads, two arms, two legs, six appendages sticking out. And symmetry is supposed to be beautiful, after all.

Myron Marks: 5, 5, 5, 5, 4
Oh, Myron, you've bowled me over with your geeky charm.

Grinn: 3, 4, 1, 4, 4
Where is Dr. Mayavale's trolley? I feel gipped - or maybe just too uneducated to understand...

Weirdo Legionnaire: 4, 3, 3, 3, 4

Thank you! We have received enough surveys to determine a reject.

The tabulations will occur, and a result will be achieved.

Soon.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

So, Holdur is rejected. How'd that happen, you ask? It's simple.

I added up the numbers given to each contestant by each voter. For example, here's part of Fat Cramer's survey:

Double Header: 22254. That added up to 15
Myron got 21
Grinn got 13
Weirdo got 16
Holdur got 20

13, 15, ***16*** 20, 21

Weirdo is in the middle of the pack in FC's survey. Weirdo got a vote for elimination.

Now, I did that for each voter.

Yes, the pinup rated most average is the one rejected!

Holdur was deemed "middle of the pack" 4 times. Everyone else was in the middle 3 times. If a voter had two contestants tie for the middle, each contestant was given a vote.

We don't want anyone average to last in the Freaks and Geeks competition!

Whew! I hope that made sense.

The next competition is going to be completely different. Check back soon!

Paging EDE or anyone who knows....

What is this Aarok you mentioned? Amazons? I need some reference.

Also, have we seen moopsball happen? Do I need to invent what it looks like? When was it mentioned?

HELP!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Aarok was featured in the issue in which Jamm is introduced (besides being the homeworld of Jenni in another boot).

I know there's some shots of Legionnaires watching Moopsball on a screen in some of the Baxter issues, but I can't give you anything more precise than that by memory. It looks a lot like football.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I just did a search (in entire threads) for "moopsball" at the SLSH board, and there were lots of hits. First of all, you, EDE, posted about Brainy's Lucky Day and a discussion some of the Legion guys were having about the rules. So that gave me an issue number. Thanks!

Also, it seems posters here often get moopsball confused with magno-ball (Cos' sport) and bat-ball (Thom's sport).

....and that would be our little moopsball lesson for the day, kiddies!

See ya!

I'm still trippin' that Holdur was rejected! His was my second favorite entry!

What crazy twists and turns will happen next, Monstress wearing a bow-tie?!?!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Ah, that was the problem, Lash. If Holdur had been more people's MOST favorite, or LEAST favorite, he might have made it. But, fair-to-middlin' just won't do for Freaks and Geeks!

Good question about the next twists and turns... we'll need to judge the Freaks and Geeks on their propensity as leading men/lovers. Hmmm....

Oooh, this has gotta be one of the more exciting contests (and one of the weirdest)!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

1. Which of the male models would you most like to have as a brother-in-law?

2. Which of the male models do you want to get away from her, RIGHT NOW!?!

3. Which of these pinups made you think about the laundry you have in the washer that needs to be moved to the dryer?

True to the contest, Sketchy's post got a li'l freaky and some of it went missing. I added it back in until Sketchy himself signs in again. The numbered questions are Sketch Lad's words. I'm now recreating, as best as I can, what he said ABOVE those questions:

When answering these questions, think about your baby sister. The one you raised practically all of your (and her) life.

FREAKY, GEEKY LUV

My li'l sis, huh? What do you think Thriftshop Subdebutante would be like? Right.

1. I'm likin' the Myron, but do you think MY sis is going to take directions? Right.

1.5 We all know who's going to be my sister's brother-in-law. Isn't he cute?

2.COLOSSAL BOY. First of all, married. Even if he wasn't, though, bound to be plenty of borrrrring drama and not worth it, nope nope nope. He's not a model. So? He is freaky at this point.

3. Well, Lefty (Frenk?) seems to be enjoying chatting with Tasmia, but Righty (Dyvud?) is either gazing into Tinya's eyes OR thinking about his laundry -- I can't tell.

Clark. Snazzy threads, Smallville...were they cut on the bias a little, maybe?

Sinde. You locomote, lass!

Toony-Dru is cute!

Love den!

1. Well, Double-Header seems liked he be a pretty cool bro-in-law, based on his pic.

2. Lana, stop trying to kiss crazy weird psycho Myron Marks! You know he'll just stab you with a fish hook in the middle of the night!

3. Hmm... I'd say the Weirdo Legionnaire would be the most useful for doing laundry, with those extra arms and such...

Luh-UHHHHHHV den!

Sketchy, you're the best way to start the day! I love the judges' scenes. Drura's such a trooper, what with being sick (a first?!?), Brainy's blondes and Lester stepping in - all good!

1. Myron for my brother-in-law. Looks like Lana is puckering up to taste the trout!

2. Grinn - get away RIGHT NOW Ethel. Those beefy lips could even swallow you - and then eat the goat!

3. Weirdo Legionnaire reminds me of the laundry, but I think it's because the Kissing Machine could be a weird washer-dryer combo.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

1. Er, I guess Myron Marks, because I can't remember too much about him!

2. Probably Grinn, b/c he's a mass murderer. But that doesn't mean I want that Weirdo Legionnaire near my baby sis!

3. I'm looking at you Weirdo Legionnaire! Lu was looking goooOOOOooood, but that's enough for you! But could you help me fold my clothes?

I've got to say, the Double-Header pin-up for the first time made me want to be Double-Header! [Big Grin]

I think I'd probably vote off Weirdo Legionnaire at this point if we were doing the old voting system...(I'm a fan of Grinn to be honest [Big Grin] )

1. Double-Header. He seems to be meditative and collected, which is better than the alternatives on offer. Marks doesn't seem to be interested in his date at all (is he really straight?). The Weirdo Legionnaire seems too... lustful. Grinn is actually quite cute, he would have been my second choice. But, like Cobie, I can't get away from the fact that he's a mass murderer and all.

2. Marks should get away from her. It would be better for both of them, in the long run.

3. Marks, again.

But my favourite picture is Grinn's.

And I must say, the judges just keep getting better and better. That 'guest' appearance by Infectious Lass really had me laughing.

1. Which of the male models would you most like to have as a brother-in-law?

Myron Marks

2. Which of the male models do you want to get away from her, RIGHT NOW!?!

Grinn

3. Which of these pinups made you think about the laundry you have in the washer that needs to be moved to the dryer?

Wierdo Legionnaire

The picture I like the best was Double-Header's. He looks so serene.

I'm not sure what happened to my post containing the survey instructions, but things are going fine.

The idea is to think of any of the girls shown in these pinups as if she were your little sister. Then answer the questions accordingly.

So far...

1. Brother in law?
Myron has the most votes.

2. Get away!
Grinn has the most votes.

3. Hmm...laundry!
Weirdo reminds us most of that.

Grinn-- acting on the theory that having a mass murderer in my family means I wouldn't become his victim when he finds out I didn't vote for him.

Grinn and Eyeful Ethel. Well, it's a step up from Tusker...

2. Which of the male models do you want to get away from her, RIGHT NOW!?!

Myron Marks. Because it's just so sad that Lana forgot to put her contacts in this morning and she thinks that's Clark for whom she's puckering up.

And because it looks like he's wearing a STAR TREK Captain Kirk shirt.

Uh- *how* did you know? I'm a little creeped out now...

I'll say Double Header, but only because my washer's in the basement and it can get a tad... humid... down there from time to time.

I wonder what the criteria will be for getting voted off this time? Fewest responses in any category?

Will the Legion lady back-up models be included in future rounds? The winner of each round can have the option to choose from among them, with the last one chosen eliminated--- like it's done on the fashion design show on Bravo, with designers choosing models.

Double Header.

2. Which of the male models do you want to get away from her, RIGHT NOW!?!
Weirdo, three at once? That's just indecent.

3. Which of these pinups made you think about the laundry you have in the washer that needs to be moved to the dryer?
Myron, Fishing is so dull.

Grinn

Weirdo

The coloring is beautiful in all pinups. Love the comments as always, and toon-Dru was a nice surprise!

I was having a hard time deciding these last night, so my bf made the choices. Here's what he had to say, keeping in mind the whole 'sister' theme:

(disclaimer: he is not a Legion or comics fan whatsoever)

1. Which of the male models would you most like to have as a brother-in-law?

MYRON MARKS. He liked the general all-space-American aspect of the image.

2. Which of the male models do you want to get away from her, RIGHT NOW!?!

WEIRDO LEGIONNAIRE. He felt there was too much potential for perverse acts here!

3. Which of these pinups made you think about the laundry you have in the washer that needs to be moved to the dryer?

GRINN. This was the image he remembered last while deciding. And he thought Grinn's lips were growing from the goat's butt.

Personally, I think I would have remembered lips growing from a goat's butt!

Posted by Caliente on :

1. Grinn-- I don't really know why...
2. Weirdo Legionnaire-- Perv!
3. Double Header-- He's clearly in the same predicament!

The surveys submitted so far have been noted.

I will be away from the computer a lot Sat-Wed, so there won't be much activity until after that. So please continue to fill out the surveys and I'll tabulate all the data when I get back.

The challenge for the top three has been all figured out, except for who will actually be in it! It'll be fun.

See ya next week!

Hey sketchy...I don't really have time to be voting right now, but I've checked out the art threads and I have to say this Sapce-Rawks!!!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Hey everyone, I'm back! Well, there were no surveys added since my last post, so the reject is chosen.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Mystery Lad was on to me when he asked about the criteria for rejection. Yes, it was indeed the contestant who received the least number of responses to any of the survey questions, and that was Double Header. However, it was a very close vote.

Thank you to everyone who participated.

The next challenge is mostly pencilled. Details left to add, then scanning, coloring and lettering to do.

I'm sure I mentioned that this one would take a while longer for me to produce (RL!) and that sure seems to be true, huh?

It's still fun, though!

I like how you're mixin' it up!

You know, somewhere Terrus is screaming over an omnicom to his agent. [Terrus]

Hi!

Sorry, I haven't been able to do anything on this project this week (RL!), so I guess I'll have to make up for that somehow!

Lessee... how could I make up for that....

Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :

I could probably think up a few ideas for ya.

*tee-hee*

Hi!

Uh, I've had a LOT going on, so I haven't been able to work on this.

I will NOT let it go, though. I just need to get some more stuff taken care of, and then it will be back ON!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I've been on a job search, removed all the stuff out of 2 levels of my house, painted all the rooms, been working, been parenting, etc.

Well, the painting's done. The new carpet is installed. I got a job.

Hmmm.... now what'll I do for fun?

I know! I'll finish the Freaks and Geeks Competition!!!!

Watch this space!

Ooh, Yera is super-space-pissed.

*tee hee*

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

So, Drura has caused the delay! But, as the doctor says, the next challenge will be done soon.

Just details to finish off!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Thought you all might enjoy some "bonus features" while you wait for the next challenge to be completed.

Heh! Thanks for commenting Lash!

The next challenge is nearly done. Lots of Easter Eggs coming ya'll. Get your Where's Waldo eyes ready.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Finally! After a whole lotta RL distractions and one challenge re-do, the top three have been posted!

So, which wasn't worth the wait? Yes, it's a simple, good ol fashioned pinup model REJECTION!

Who's out... Myron, Grinn or Weirdo?

Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :

Goodbye, Grinn!

Reject Myron

Reject Weirdo, for the funsies of giving them 1 vote each!

Weirdo Legionnaire, you disappoint me. Rejected.

Weirdo Legionnaire out.

Myron looks so geekily cool in his Star Trek red shirt. Live Long & Prosper indeed.

And I must say that Grinn is looking pretty hot in those tight jeans.

The Weirdo drawing looked a little rushed.

Posted by Fat Cramer on :

Grinn, exit stage left.

Myron and Weirdo just meld so perfectly with their surroundings! And what an ... interesting ... appearance from Thora. Fiery, or does she burn hot and cold?

Posted by Language Arts Lad on :

Grinn

Posted by Suddenly Seymour on :

Reject Weirdo Legionnaire. He's got the better physique, but I'm not sure it's appropriate to attend a science fair sans shirt. That's just too weird.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Hey, thanks for your patience, waiting for this to get done! I appreciate all the responses.

Who to reject? So far:

Grinn 4 votes
Weirdo 4 votes
Myron 1 vote

Polls are still open....

Posted by Insomniac Girl on :

Oh, the last picture… so many Computos, such a nice symbiote, and such a fun-loving, fun-having Weirdo Legionnaire!

Myron’s not exactly inspiring me, but I’d like to reject Grinn for the fair and objective reason of I-don’t-like-him-very-much.

Posted by Ram Boy on :

Get rid of Grinn. I love how you rendered Myron. And I think Weirdo might be saving the big guns for the finale.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Grinn's in trouble....

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

...Grinn's out!

So, the finale is upon us! It'll be posted soon.

Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :

This should be good. I've liked the Myron all along and I'm becoming fond of the WL too.

Posted by Caliente on :

Aww, Grinn was my man to win! [Frown]

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Okay, lots of pencilling is done. Check back soon.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Okay, so the finale isn't done yet, but I hope you enjoy the sorta freebies placed in there, til the actual competition resumes.

Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :

Freaks & Geeks...they try harder!

Luv ya, lads!

Posted by Fat Cramer on :

It's the Half-Time Show!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

In the past, I've hinted at showing sketches that were rejected from contest use, but nowadays I'm actually showing them. I like the little Omnicom viewers.

The finale is nearly complete. Just one major panel to finish off...

Posted by Caliente on :

Woo-hoo! [Big Grin]

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Alright, so maybe I over-sold the Freaks and Geeks' finale just a lil bit... but y'know, it's been a CIRCUS around here!

Please name your WINNER!

Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :

They're both so danged cute.

I must space-ponder.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I love the Weirdo Picture! Except the Weirdo's barely in it!

Myron for the space-win!

Posted by MLLASH on :

The Super-Pets space-rawk. They shouldn't, however, be the focus of the grand finale pic. And yes, the Weirdo L* looks so much like Elastic Lad in a mask. There HAS to be a connection! Does this mean Ferro Lad WASN'T the first masked Legionnaire?

So my final vote goes to Myron Marks AKA Dear Myron AKA Pigeon-Feeder Lad for the win!

Although I *still* think Grinn was robbed. Wish I could fill out jeans and a sleeveless shirt combo just like he did. Do Legion fans fear a pretty face??!!?? [Big Grin]

Thanks Dean, this totally and completely kicked ass!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I've noticed on Tyra's Top Model show, that sometimes the second model, the "prop" model, if you will, sometimes outshines the main model. Tyra always cautions her contestants about that.

Lash, I'm glad you've enjoyed this lil show. Sorry there was a big lag in the middle, but I'm glad there was a lag instead of total cancellation!

So far, 2 votes for Myron. Polls remain open...

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Oh yeah... I had an extra sketch to add to the set.... Go on back and check it out!

Now THAT's a finale!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Lucy!

Posted by Fat Cramer on :

After Freaks and Geeks, Lucy takes the show...

But I'll go with Myron to win. He's trying harder, and only relying on himself. I bet the Super-Pets are just humouring Weirdo.

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

Myron to win.

I never did warm to Weirdo Legionnaire and his use of the super-pets didn't help him any.

Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :

My vote is for Weirdo.

Posted by Doctor One on :

Myron to win

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

So far it's Myron over Weirdo 5 to 1.
Polls remain open...

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

...and polls are closed.

I had a feeling all along that Myron was the one!

This was one of the most fun pinup model contests ever, for me, because of all the props, locales, guests, etc...

I do so apologize for the big delay in the middle. However, I was REALLY busy. It couldn't be helped.

Thank you to MLLASH for the concept and for choosing the contestants.

Thank you to everyone who participated.

There is another major pinup challenge in development right now. Keep checking back at Bits!
