Teeds & Insomniac Girl team-up to write funny captions for past pics!

IG's recent proposed Dynamo Boy caption was hysterical and anyone doubting Teeds' ability to create funny captions should read her LSH slurpee cup captions.

I've begun some sketchin' for the big anniversary edition. Frankly, I LOVE the idea of Teeds and Insomniac Girl adding captions. In fact, I had that in mind as I sketched.

Nice Work Sketch Lad. My only complaint is that the pictures cycled too fast.

Posted by Nightcrawler on :

Great Work Dean! (I'd slow them down a bit too, though! Better to admire your work.)

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Thanks guys! As I get more comfortable with Movie Maker, I'm sure I'll refine my sensibilities. I wanted a LOT of pictures, but I think it may have been better to have less with smoother tansitions.

This is too much fun. A new addiction....

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I did another version, with less characters, slower, and with a different song....

Of course, there's a video for the male models, too...

Fantastic stuff Sketchy!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Thanks, Star Boy. Now that I'm learning how to use that program, the ideas are coursing through me!

Posted by Arachne on :

Those are cool. Who's music are you using?

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Thanks, Arachne.

Lessee...
On the first one, with lots of pictures, it's Chris Daughtry singing Bryan Adams. In the second one and in the guys' one, it's Fantasia. They're all mp3's from American Idol.

Put this on my geek card--- I drew Legion comic book characters, placed them in an America's Next Top Model style competition, created a video on YouTube, set to American Idol music. I'm awesome!

No offense meant, just feeling a tad nerdy today.

Posted by Arachne on :

I seriously doubt there's a poster on this board that isn't acting nerdy at least part of the time. [Smile]

Posted by Quislet, Esq. on :

Great stuff Sketchy. The second ladies with the slower pace was much better. The guys could have been a little slower too.

Will you do one for the fantastic outfits you've created? I am thinking about Color Kid's outfits in particular

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I love the idea of creating a fashion show using Movie Maker. I'll have to do some experimentation...

Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :

Eeeeeeeek!
It's almost here!!!

Posted by Caliente on :

What she said! Great YouTube vids, Dean. Wow. Eee! So exciting. [Big Grin]

[Big Grin]

Content will begin to be posted Tuesday evening, my time.

Dang, and I have to go to bed early to be up at 4:30am. Well, it will give me something to look forward to Weds. night after a LONG day!

Happy Anniversary, Dean!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Wow Dean, these are so cool! You space-rawk!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Thanks you guys!

Heh! The Anniversary is actually on the 29th, so I'm not late!!!!

Hope you all have some fun with the candid, backstage holos.

Got caption?

Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :

No time for captions, I gotta go warn Big Al!

Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :

So I leave captioning in everyone else's hands! [Arm-Fall-Off-Boy]

Posted by Fat Cramer on :

(I got so excited I posted in the wrong thread. Faux pas erased (could you please delete it Sketchy?) and re-engineered here:)

You are a universe unto yourself, Sketch Lad!

Happy Anniversary, Holo Model! And many happy returns! I'm amazed no one appeared on stage with bruises or black eyes, after seeing those backstage pics... or maybe they just have exceptional makeup artists.

Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :

Glorith, show them how it's done!

(This pic still knocks me out!)

Caption Big Al:
Go ahead. Pull my finger!

Caption Command Kid & Quake Kid:

Never touch my hair gel!!!!

Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :

Hmm. I don't know if it's possible for the models' backstage fighting, biting, height-ing, slighting, and light(n)ing to be more exciting than what the judges get up to in front of the holocam.

Go check out the Ravens and Bad Girls contests...or any of 'em.

Fun with Tenzil has been posted. I have a bit more in store, but the anniversary special is winding down...

ayla's work with the model organization resulted in fine images. garth's too; i did not know he had that devil shot in him.

i have enjoyed, with the exception of certain brother-related incidents, my own involvement with the holo projects. the shoot on kathoon remains a favorite.

thank you, art director dean lee.

with regards,
mekt ranzz.

Thank you Mekt Ranzz!

Hope you all like seeing some of the sketches that didn't quite make the competitions.

Lessee...

1. The Sirens were going to have a challenge where they wear the medallions and have loose, tossled hair. It was too boring, so I chose to do the "bronze" challenge instead.

2. I was going to have an Earth, Water, Sky, sort of elemental challenge for the Many Mysas, but chose the tiny friends instead.

3. I was going to have a simple "close up faces" challenge for the Freaks and Geeks, but that woulnd't have utilized any of the participants' suggestions.

4. This was my first idea for Gas Girl for the RPM's mage challenge.

5. I had intended on showing all of the Autumn Auburns in red fuzzy sweaters.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

6. I like this picture of Vi, but it was dull. I preferred the one I used of her in the leather and fur challenge.

7. The FEMS were going to be in retro space uniforms, but it was too similar to the XGF's, so I put the FEMS in space bikinis instead!

8. One of the Comic Book Covergirls' challenges was going to be a profile shot, but the other ideas were better, IMO.

9. I was going to do the typical "handsome" shot for the ExSel finale, but chose the horizontal shots instead.

10. I was planning on showing the Debs' reactions to which places they came in, but chose instead to use compilations of their competition shots.

Some of the many, many, MANY unused images might have created different results in the contests, but we'll never know now, will we? I still have a lot more unused sketches besides the ones shown. Maybe another time?

Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :

While I prefer the holo submitted to the show, the Gas Girl picture is intriguing. [Gas Girl]

Xenn's adorable! [Xennians]

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Thanks for the response, Teeds!
I appreciated it.

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

Thanks for sharing these, Dean! There's some pretty awesome stuff there!

Posted by Caliente on :

Dean, this stuff has been great! I love the personality you put into your work. It's amazing. [Smile] Thank you!

Posted by MLLASH on :

I must apologize for my slow response, Dean... I've been wracking my brain over in my "various eras" thread.

But the anniversary special has been a real treat!

I really like the guys in sweaters picture... can't wait for cooler weather myself.

I'll bet Tenz really enjoyed making use of the big kissing computer, heh!

I don't think Double-Header has ever looked prettier than in that one unsed photo!

I have a captioning idea for the XGF pic that I want to kick around my head for a bit.

I can't wait to win the lottery and put you on retainer as my artist (and EDE on retainer as my writer, and Teeds on retainer as my... Oh, hell, I'll just send her a monthly check)!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Thanks for the comments, you guys!

I'm actually working on a grand finale, so check back soon!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Well, the Anniversary Special is concluded! Hope you like all the winners' new portraits.

I'll be taking a little breather from Holo Model stuff.

Let me know if you start itching for some new competitions to get going again!

Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :

That Quake Kid! I've said it before and I'll say it again: yeah he's easy -- and he's easy on the eyes. Loose Lad turns in some fine holos.

Big Al -- yow!

See, I like Drura all done up and everything, but I like her with minimal (some basic eye stuff, lipstick) makeup too.

Damn, Iresa! Doing space-justice to a slightly darker palette.

Leung's holo makes me curious. Hey, girl, whatcha wearin'? Let us see! Beautiful background color, Sketchy!

[mean]I like that Persuader's photo obscures his face 'cause he's one of my least-favorite winners.[/mean]

Mekt, Mekt, Mekt. I'm not quite sure yet if I like it, but there's something intriguing going on here that has had me studying this one. Does anyone else see a bit of a manga style, maybe? Is it the color? Hmm.

Swoopy pirate hats, leafy hoodies, and nelly caps off to Sketch Lad for Year One of holo-y goodness. And here's to Year Two!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Thanks for the commentary and the good cheer, Teeds. You are part of the Holo Model family!

Posted by Eryk Davis Ester on :

I keep meaning to comment in more detail, but keep keep getting distracted by other things!

Posted by MLLASH on :

"Loose Lad". Heh!

Wow, Dean.. you've outdone yourself with these new winners' holos. I thought the Persuader's leapt off the screen, Lu's was stunning, Drura is gorgeous. GREAT stuff!

Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :

Also, my thanks to all my fellow commentators*. The discussion threads make the whole shebang twice as fun. [Tornado Twins]

*although I am still nursing P-Pete and PCoV grudges

Posted by Star Boy on :

Hey Sketchy - Longtime Lurker to the Holo threads and I thought I'd best add my voice to the clamour of approval! Huzzah!

Now... where the h-bomb do you get all the time to draw these!!! [Big Grin]

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Thanks, Star Boy!

My sketches actually happen VERY quickly. I'm sure you've noticed that I don't often render nicely proportioned hands, for example. I'm sure my anatomy would be appalling to some. I'm not really trying to improve my skills. I'm just doing them for fun and relaxation. I get lucky when the faces end up being attractive.

The scanning and coloring takes more time, however, the colors are often done very quickly too.

I really don't care to slow down and do cleaner drawings. In the past, when I've inked my work and used more precise coloring techniques, I end up hating the art and having no fun at all. So, I'll remain Sketch Lad, thank you!

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I added one final picture....

Posted by Fat Cramer on :

A round of applause for the final entry! Take a bow, Sketchy!

BTW, it just clicked with me today when I was doing something else that in Mekt's picture, the red/green are references to his old uniform - very nice to repeat the colours in his eyes. Spikey hair - yum! does give it a little manga air too.

Posted by Thriftshop Debutante on :

See, I had requested an appearance by the art director. Of course -- once again -- he finds a way to surprise.

Posted by Caliente on :

Aw, Dean, that was great! [Big Grin] I love the new portraits. And the handsome artist! [Wink] So cool. Thanks for all your work.

I can't believe how many you've done. Amazing. [Smile]
