I love the Starsearchers and they deserve slavish fan tributes!

Here's the first one that I have.
It also celebrates the Spiffany Museum thread coming in March.
I hope the little bit of work I did in this Calvin piece does all 3 justice and ya'll enjoy it.

Updated this just a little and I'm more happy with it now!

I redid it a little and gave Spiff MLLASH's Elvis sideburns.

Spaceman Spiff is actually a lot like Johnny Comet!

I was playing in photobucket and found these by blackterrormetal.
They remind me of K'zle, duh (and of MLLASH, too, especially the one with the sunglasses!)

I'm finally at a stage with Dr. Battle where I can start doing some renders.
Here's a close up head shot, I'll try and get some body shots done tommorrow, though I'm still trying to perfect the body suit. -

Wow! Dedster! That is .... magnificent! Thank you SO much!

Hey, can I use that along with the webcomic? Of course I'll give you full credit!

Posted by MLLASH on :

Wow, she looks ready to reach through the screen! Fantastic, and fitting.

Dr. Battle gets intro'd in the first pages of issue 2 but it's her scene in the last pages of issue 2 that will really GET ya.

Thanks Candle, Sketchy and Lash...glad you like the results!

Starsearcher's Chibis!

These 3 characters were on the title page (1) of the story titled: The Undesirables.

It's the introduction of K'zle and his people on Neptune.

Y'LLO is just a madeup name because we don't find out in the story what he's called.

This is a scene from Iritt's and Hoppa's home world.
These are GIANT butterflies from a sentient insectoid tribe from that planet.
They are also in competition with the humanoidish tribes on that world:

They're kind-of hyptonic!

Here's a different butterfly species from Hoppa's and Iritt's world of dense atmoshere and low gravity, ideal for bugs and plants to flourish in.

[Big Grin] I just love Dean's designs... he's so freakin' creative...

I wish there was some way for him to benefit financially from all his hard and fantastic work on STARSEARCHERS. Maybe one day there will be.

There's something really cool about the idea of seeing Lash's interpretation of my interpretation of his characters. Naturally, I wanna see more!

I can't stand it anymore!!!! I have to spring my sneaky surprise on everyone here.... a Legion World exclusive....

I've only just begun begging for free Starsearchers pinup art from my pals over at the Comic Book Resources Artist & Writers showcase. Here's the first piece of art offered, by the super creative and vivid imagination of CBRown....

More to come, and the images will be positioned between story sequences when possible.

Cool, huh?

Well, I finally felt together enough to finish my Neptunian friends chibis drawing!
The gumby pull doll was fun to do, as was the fight over it.
And my darlin' K'zle and his mom.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

Candlelight, what a wonderful Neptunian scene! I love all the vivid colors - even in the frame.

Thank you!

I love it too!! Precious!!

Thanks, Shady!! [Smile]

I'm glad you like it, guys.

In Starsearchers you had them be friends.
I wanted to show how long ago in their lives that the friendships started, especially since they were all still young when your story of their deaths and recruitment happened.

Origninal photo is from a fashion shoot, the model is Carmen Dell'Orefice, a or 'THE' Megamodel at 76.

It amuses me to no end, Candlelight, how you are able to make such excellent and fitting 31st century character portraits by using 21st century fashion shoots, often with hardly any manipping.

Posted by Sketch Lad on :

I'm pretty sure if there was ever any Starsearchers fan art done by Suncat, I'd lose my mind! (subtle hint?)

Posted by Suncat on :

I need to read it first. I am so behind in my reading.

Posted by Candlelight on :

Sometimes, when I use something like Ink Stamp, which I seem to love recently, the process works quickly and doesn't need much else, sometimes it does.
For Starlette, I used the afore mentioned Ink Stamp, then, since the process changed her gloves from black to white, which was great, but I had to fill in finger line and finish areas were the lines didn't connect.
The harshness of the inking, meant I had to go into the face and neckline and get rid of some of the cheekbone lines, fill out the mouth while making it slightly smaller, working on her chin/neck and lightening her eyes and underbrows.
The background needed a slight amount of work on oneside and after putting her through the poster process, twice, I floffed her hair out of the originial photo borders.
And ta-da.

But, you're right on some of them, that's for sure.
Rain Forest required nothing but erasing some type in the photo and posterizing.
Catspaw got some pupil extensions and fangs but that's all.
Kestrel had writing and flames to fill.

It's amazing what's possible on tinypics and paint.

Mharva is pretty involved though.
I'm on my second try with her, extending her wings, removing the hands and closing her limbs.
Then, I'll do a little coloring, I think.

Anyway, I'm hoping for a scanner soon.

I wasn't denigrating the work you put in, truly. And appreciate your process notes. I was simply commenting on the ... oddity ... of some high fashion images.

Posted by Candlelight on :

Thanks!
Some images ARE incredibly odd.
The McQueen and Chinese shows are really amazing!

The Tom and Lorenzo Fashion site has dozens of shows from all over the world, and fashion shoots, too.
They're a huge source of incredible images, as is ANTM.

The internet is so fun!

Posted by Candlelight on :

Finished!
I hope ya'll like it.
I tried coloring and found it didn't really add to the image, so I took the drawing back to black and white.
(I'll post the original photo in the 'work in progress' slot above for reference if you care to compare. [Smile] )

original photo of Ann Ward, ANTM winner, cycle 15
Edit: Last Wed. of June - I've updated the image, removing a few glitches that happened when I saved in paint and I tweeked the wings some, too.

Something I never ever thought I would see in a million years... my characters in custom-made action figure form!!

Based of course on the designs of the brilliant Dean Lee, these action figures were custom-made by Dean's son (and Starsearchers design consultant) Jake Lee!

Well, I hope to do two versions of this one since it's a combination of 2 favs of mine, Iritt and Alexander McQueen designs.
What a find the original photo was, so bug like!

I added the upper wing and worked on the lower one where it meets the front skirt in the photo.
Then, I played with the effect options on tinypics and most of what you see happened, something I can't figure out how to repeat, lol.

I worked on the face and coloring on the arms, back and legs.

I have to admit, that while she's not an exact copy of Sketch's work or MLLASH's concept, I love her.
