It's superiority over nearly all other vegetables should be clear.

I actually wish all people who disliked spinach could be shot out of a cannon into the sun. I'm not talking a nice death...I want blatant death for spinach haters.

Which is ironic, considering most of history's mass murderers have been spinach-haters.

I only like italian spinach. Spinach cooked any other way repulses me much like dead bunnies and Hitler's crap.

Spinach once saved my life after a drug binge! I was strung out behind a dumpster and considered mugging an old woman for change, but a can of spinach talked me out of it and forced me to start eating and sleeping again.

Spinach is the June Carter to my Johnny Cash!

Your story is eerily familiar to me, in a warped and more convoluted way.

Spinach-- It's not just for sailors!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Spinach is far superior to lettuce!

fresh spinach - not the frozen junk!

It goes well with tomatoes, too!

Baby spinach, a boiled egg and cherry tomatoes served with one round cut from a bagette. This was my noon meal for 40 work days in a row when i started trying to lose weight.

Oh, totally! I see the American tradition of topping our burgers with lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise to be the clearest sign of the decline of our civilization!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

Agreed!

Everyone knows the greatest burger toppings are bacon, hot peppers and mushrooms, although when combined at the same time, its often too much for the American mind to comprehend! Add in spinach and its like Elvis meets Popeye meets Hannibal of Carthage!

Hasdrubal didn't like spinich. Look how he ended up.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

He metaphorically is much similar to lettuce.

Which is interesting, considering I've always said that my ideal woman would be a combination of Priscila Presley, Olive Oil, and Dido of Carthage!

[LOL]

Truly, this conversation is approaching the answers to love, food and exactly what 'life' is!

Especially considering Olive Oil is not only the true love of everyone's favorite cartoon sailer, but one-half of one of the greatest salad toppings of all time--which actually makes lettuce bearable!

You know... Hannibal was severely lacking in the "great love interest" category. Dido was the only Carthaginian woman I could come up with...

There really aren't anymore good ones.

We'll have to make her a Roman, thus making him more Batman-like! Perhaps Julia, Octavian's niece? She was kinda kinky would be slightly younger than our man (only 200 years!).

If he lived 200 years later, he'd be sleeping with Cleopatra like everyone else...

'Course he'd have to fight the Asp for bedding privileges.

Back to the topic at hand... I only eat spinach salads at home. In fact, I just bought some tonight at Trader Joe's!! [Big Grin]

So, as you can imagine, this thread tickles me in a way where, if Actor Lad were to tickle me that way, I'd say, "Oh... yeah, that's it... that's the spot."

Did it just get hot in this thread? [Wink]

I going to Trader Joe's and asking for a spinach tickler.

You pro-spinach posters are CRAZY! Don't you know that the Entropy Spinach could kill us all someday?!?!?

I like spinach, but I've recently been enjoying a lovely sautee of Swiss or rainbow chard, with artichoke hearts and julienne fennel! Ooh la la!

Dinner last night and lunch today:

Chicken Alfredo Pizza with Spinach.

Awesome!

Tuna Steaks with red chillies, nested on a bed of spinach with dry roasted sesame seeds and sesame oil.

Yum yum.

I just went to Subway, and they had spinach for the first time in ages!

So today it was bye-bye lettuce as a sandwich topping and hello to the supreme vegetable, spinach!

How fortunate for you, EDE!
Last night I enjoyed a bowl of linguini tossed w/ baby spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted garlic & extra virgin olive oil.
Delicioso!

[Love] spinach

This morning we had shredded, pan fried Yukon gold potatoes sprinkled liberally with cayenne, salt, paprika, grated cheese, chopped fresh spinach, and diced tomatoes. (I like a bit of slivered red onion and sour cream on mine as well.)

You can serve this beauty with eggs and breakfast meat if you like, but personally I think it stands alone just fine...

Carrot, spinach & ginger smoothies!!

In high school, 'spinach' was a lump of stringy flavorless snot, and I didn't understand why they even served it, since nobody ate it.

In college, my roommate was a Greek/Italian mutt, and since my own family was a thousand miles away, I had Thanksgiving and Christmas and Easter dinners with his family, who made the most *amazing* spinach dishes. I couldn't believe how awesome spinach was in the hands of someone who wasn't being paid 3.75 an hour to scoop snot on a plate to a bunch of ingrateful teenagers. [Smile]

I also love brussel sprouts, and eat frozen peas like M&Ms, as a snack. So, yeah, I'm a mutant.

I am Greek and so is my wife. Between the two of us we can really "mix it up" with a batch of fresh baby spinach (and regular spinach for that matter). You can thank our mothers and their training for that! [Smile]

Can't forget the most heavenly incarnation of spinach ever: Palak Paneer!

Mom's Spinach Souffle'? Also nothing to sneeze at...

Set, that's my childhood memory of spinach too. I was well into adulthood before I tried spinach again. Now one of my favorite quick salads is spinach with shaved Pecorino Romano, almond slivers, and dressed in olive oil and sherry vinegar.

I personally fail to understand the need to isolate spinach from other green leafy substances. Romaine, red leaf, and spinach together are a wonderful thing. Especially with crumbled bacon, mandarin oranges, and homemade dressing.

/is now hungry/
