Is there a Jim Sherman Checklist on the Net? If not is there anyone that has any idea what exact Issues he drew? His work is quite unique and very beautiful.

Anyone else a Fan???
Thanks

Wow! This is the most Jim Sherman art I've ever had the privilege to see! What a terrific design sense and aptitude for creating interesting layouts he has!

Thanks, Rhino!

I've always loved this guy's art without ever really knowing his name. I'll admit that I wasn't always that cognizant of creators until I was in my late teens or early 20's. and this run I was probably 8-12 years old.

Somehow, a couple of these issues made their way out of my stash in the years since they came out. I've been (for over half a decade now) waiting to read them again in archive form.

I really wish the next archive would get released- it would contain at least some of this work, I believe.

I never read most of these issues, but they look fantastic!

Agreed about the next archive!

I'm still fortunate enough to have all these issues in my collection. You couldn't pay me enough money to part with them.

Me either, Jerry.

Question: I do NOT recognize the Sherman/Abel Santa & Soldiers' pic... is that from a story I have missed...?!?!?!?!

I think it is incredible that Sherman's art even retains much of it's Sherman 'zing' under the heavyhanded inking of Abel, who tended to... well, alter ALL of any artists' pencils that he inked into a distinctly Abel look. Not even he could entirely eradicate Sherman's style.

Posted by MLLASH on :

Also telling: 14 issues he worked on (not couting the tabloid's SECRETS section)?

Like Cockrum, he made a huge impression in a fairly short run.

The santa & soldiers pic is the Legion vs the Toyman from the 1978 DC calendar.

I agree. Bob Mcleod was the best inker for him.
Their work together looks nearly three dimensional!

I love the extreme close-up on Element Lad's eyes in the image above.
Astonishing detail!

I've always had a thing for super-heroes captured in tubes. See also: the Giant-Size AVENGERS issue where Kang has Mantis, Scarlet Witch and Agatha Harkness in tubes, and the original JLoA vs. Libra tale where he captures in entire JLA in individual tubes.

Sherman does great heroes-in-tubes!

I don't think I've ever heard anyone say that they have a thing for super-heroes in tubes. Jars, maybe? Whatev. You, Lash, are a true original.

"Heroes In Tubes" would be a great name for a rock band. [Big Grin]

Unless The Tubes decided to sue over it. [Eek!]

I know Paul Levitz is also a big Sherman fan. At the Legion 50th Anniversary panel at the 2009 NY Comic Con, he was asked who his favorite Legion artists were and Jim was the first one who came to his mind. I wasn't aware that Sherman had done so few Legion stories considering how big an impression he left in my memory!

I'm thinkin the pen is in his left fist.
No?
Is it really in his hidden right hand?
hmmmm

Edit:
Oh, I see, that paper, not his left arm.
My bad eyes strike again.
sigh

Is there any truth to the rumour that James Sherman was recently in talks with Paul Levitz about, perhaps, pencilling an up-coming issue of the new Legion book?
That would truly be a dream come true for this long time fan!

Posted by lil'rhino on :

Yes! Paul mentioned on his FB page that he & Jim have had lunch together a couple of times recently and they discussed doing a Legion arc!!

Posted by future king on :

Lil'rhino, I could just KISS you! That's the best comic news (apart from the new Legion series) I've heard in a long time!!!
Thank you!
[Big Grin]
I wonder what the theme of this story arc might be .... could we see the revisiting of the Khunds or maybe Mordru even??

Yea, I read that great news too. I hope he gets any of the two Bob's or Joe to ink him like old times. Those were the fav inkers for me on his work, besides his own inks!

Bob McLeod,
Bob Wiacek
Joe Rubinstein

My feelings exactly. I don't remember Abel's inks looking this good on Sherman's work. Sherman and McLeod were special.
