How many posts would you like to see, per page?

Please keep in mind that this is and will be a heavy graphics site, more so than the DCMB or even Rob's boards.
And that some people are on slower machines than others when voting.

Also, I've set this poll to close Sunday at 9:00 p.m. (Mountain Time, which is the server time).

I'd like to strongly urge voting for 15 posts per page. We're making heavy use of avatars and, often, of images, unlike the old DC boards.

And it does make matters easier for those (like me) who still have dial-up connections ... especially when these can vary all the way from 16 kbps to 52 kbps, depending on Net traffic and ISP weirdness.

Is there a way to have a choice for different posters?

How many remember when the DCMB had all posts on one page...whoaaaaaa baby!

I've checked and there isn't a way to default so that users can set the number of posts viewed in their profile. This appears to be the only way to do it.

That's cool.

And Grey...this is why it's up to a vote...so it doesn't come down to only one or two people making the final decision.

The poll is TIGHT.

But only 1/3 of the registered ID's have voted so far. We've still got about another 55 1/2 hours to go. But maybe I should have held back my vote in case a tie-breaker was needed.

Dev, I don't recall my having challenged the notion of a vote, as such. With no setting available that the users can choose individually, a vote becomes a reasonable way of gathering information as to preferences. (Without the reasons for them, though.)

Yet since you mention it ... I see technical matters, generally, as not being served well by putting them up to a vote. I'd have preferred the founders/owners making their own choice, based on their own clearly noted outlook, yet being willing to entertain arguments otherwise.

Grey, I don't mind Gary and I making those decisions for the most part with constructive feedback from everyone. But there are some things that I'd rather have that feedback before implementing then possible having to change later on. This topic was one of them. Hence why I started a poll and didn't just change the number of posts to 25 when I saw it was set at the default of 15.

I find that if I don't stop and ask sometimes, my blinders keep me from seeing a lot of other viewpoints. A good example being your arguments for changes to the index page. You brought up some good points that went beyond my initial scope of consideration and had I asked prior, would have made the adjustments before adding the page.

Just a case of wanting to be safe rather than sorry.

Another 4 hours to go before this one is closed.
And it is still a tight race with only 1 vote separating the top choices right now. Anyone who hasn't yet voted, you need to do it soon.

LL, I will be watching not only for the voting outcome, but what actually happens when the Poll closes via the automatic process.

Similarily I will keep an eye on voting in my Polls during this workweek to see what turnout occurs after a weekend opportunity for voting, presumably for most members. I will gauge the responses to determine optimum Poll closures. Best not to close 'em too early or leave 'em in the void and have people lose interest in the results

I will probably close my first two open-ended Polls this week in any case, as they are trickling, and, well, these are new pants!

Less than an hour left everyone.

And the final tally? Well you can look for yourself in the results but we will be keeping the number of posts per page at 15. It was a real close call though.

Thanks to everyone who voted.
