Are you, or your thread, suffering from (gasp!) TTD????

TTD is an abbreviation for the dreaded Trivia Thread Death... a condition which can be diagnosed by serious dropoffs in posting, countless hints given, or even.... COMPLETE LACK OF PARTICIPATION. (Oh no! Oh no!)

However, by taking a few preventative measures, one can stem the onset of TTD, and even, yes, completely prevent the dreaded syndrome from taking over in your thread. Here are a few guidelines for prevention:

1. When creating a game, put a provision in the rules for these situations. Set a time limit for the correct answer to be given, and rules for what happens at that point.

2. If you can tell that no one is going to be able to answer your question, don't drag it out like a catfight on The Young and the Restless. Accept your victory gracefully and provide us all with the answer, and then defer the next question to someone who gave your awesome, mind-blowing question a go. It'll make their day!

3. Know when to say when. After hint #50, no one's probably going to get the answer.

4. Try not to ask too many questions for clarification to the person who originally posed the question. Remember that answering your questions about their question is not the original questioner's job.

5. Try to respect the rules of the game you are playing. Yes, we all know you have that awesome trivia question that is burning a hole in your heart, and that you have to let it out so that it will live, and breathe, and make the world a better place. However, if the rule of the game is that the person who gets the previous question gets to answer the next question, you have to respect that.

We can all stop the spread of TTD if we work together for a better Spaceopoly!

Kid Prime out.

And might I add a PM to either the original questioner ("Among the answers given is any correct?" or "We need a hint") or the next questioner ("Did you know that you are up for the next question?") are also appreciated if it has been a couple of days since the last post.

I would suspect that a day's wait (or til Monday over the weekend)after the PM would be sufficient.

Great suggestions, KP and Quis!

Might I also add,

If there are no time limit rules, AND if someone has PMed the poster who asked the question, AND they haven't replied after 4-5 days, feel free to go ahead and ask another question to keep the thread going. You could also "reward" the question to someone who made a guess. But DO post in the thread that you've taken action to keep it going.

UPDATE:

If you are looking to reach a thread hat has drifted below page one, you can use either of two functions at the top right of the menu page:

the 'search' function will let you find a specific thread (or even post), no matter how old. You can set it to look simply for the title of a thread, or to search the content as well.

you can also use the menu bar that says "Show topics from the last 60 days" to any number of other options to dig for older threads.
