I'm not sure the red and blue mini-cape complements the skull-and-crossbones emblazoned black leotard on 'The Black Terror.'

I do like the 'The Black Terror' has not only a sign on his door, but also a monogrammed blanket and matching lamp...

Does Batman even have Bat-blankets and Bat-lamps?

Seeing those Patsy Walker covers remind me of how it blew my mind when I figured out Hellcat was the former star of romance/model comics and not a sort of superhero take on her plunked into the middle of things with Beast and The Avengers.

I had similar revelations with Vision and Angel. There probably aren't many 'silent' updates around, but it'd be fun to discover a few more...

I think that's Desi Arnez, better known in later years as Lucy's husband, Ricky Ricardo on I Love Lucy
They were married for many years in real life and cofounded Desilu Productions/Studio.
He just looks sort of gay.

Everyone went 'clubing' in the big cities in the 30's, 40's, 50's, etc.. The two guys are a balancing act, sort of like Vaudville stuff.

Quite a number of the covers remind me of Curt Swan's work and they're pretty good!
The military one looked like a Gene Colan work.
[shrug]

I used to get Patsy and Hedy.
Millie the Model, too, as well as some of the 60's romance books.

Wow! Cross-genre collision!

The cover of Young Life, six posts back, features a photo of a teen actor named Skippy Homeier. As a grown-up named Skip, he went on to appear in two Star Trek episides, including the hippie fest, "The Way to Eden":

So, apparently the chick with her back to the wall on which someone has scratched drawings of men on horseback is afraid of something, but it doesn't seem like she's afraid of the giant Native American who is trying to hand her a trumpet after he just sliced his wrists.

At least, that's what I get out of it.

And with Elastisaurus, we may be seeing the origin of the brokeback pose, as he shows up both his chest and his ass at the same time.

Hard to say for sure, but my impression is that the drawings in the background are of musicians sitting in chairs, like they did in the big band era (it looks like some of the scratches are supposed to be musical notation).

Then again, they could just be random scratches from the artist trying to get his pen to work that he left in the finished piece because white-out hadn't been invented yet.

I agree that the Punch comics cover makes no sense to me.

The dinosaur cover looks like one of the covers that should have a "You Write the Caption" contest.

"Give them back! At least the one in the blue! I was almost to second base!"

"Mr. Dinosaur! You forgot your change!"

"Stop! I was about to eat one of them!"
