Brilliant. Freaking brilliant.

We are in for one helluva ride on this one and I can't wait to enjoy. There's so much to talk about from #1 and I'm posting from my phone, so I'll have to get back to it.

Fantastic characters from the get-go. And a romance that feels very real to me, and therefore more romantic.

Amazing art by Staples! I've enjoyed her art before, but the colors here really make it pop.

The sci-fi / fantasy setting is creative to the extreme so far. So many fascinating aspects! I'm so intrigued by the robotic royal family most of all.

Vaughn's writing has only improved over time and he was always good. There is an incredible mood, a robust political and cultural landscape, and immediate tension. Beyond that there is crude humor, heartfelt moments and very human interactions between the aliens.

And that's all in #1.

This could end up being the best comic going. I suggest getting in on the ground floor.

They're already selling # 1 for $15 on eBay I read.

damn. Tomorrow is the first day I can get to the comic store.

I'll bring my knives just in case there's any copies left and I have to rumble for them. (no winkys)

well ... I've just been to two comic stores here and .... no such luck ..... there wasn't even a copy to fight over .... I did find the 'Saga - Limit two copies per customer ' sign .... amusing and enlightening.

One store says they'll get in a new shipment next week, we'll see.

Shade, Unwritten, and especially Powers were some consolation though. Although I may go back to the TPB format for Powers since this issue was not as meaty as the first one ... I want it all and I want it NOW. (I do this with Walking Dead too.)

How many frickin books is Bendis writing now [LOL] the back of Powers was filled with like 5 books he's writing besides his Avengers and X-Men plans.

I bought and enjoyed this, but can't quite be as glowing about it yet. Definitely worth reading, though.

Hey kids! Buy this book!!
I hope it sells a kajillion copies!

Finally read #1 today. Suffice to say that I feel this is the book to beat for best (new or old) of 2012. BKV's still got it, and Fiona Staples' art is just awesome!

Hard to believe, but my CBS STILL has 1st print copies of issue 1 available! [Confused] My fellow customers there must kinda suck! [Yes]

<--- still hasn't found a Saga #1 copy ... contemplating travelling to Lardy's store .... [Wink]

The LMB to the rescue! We'll find you a copy! The reprint should be out this week or next week too, right?

Posted by Lard Lad on :

I would offer, but Cobie's been waiting YEARS for me to get around to sending him that first DMZ trade! [LOL]

Finally read SAGA # 1

I enjoyed the way the story was told, by Hazel, signifying that she will indeed survive this tale.

The artwork and colors were excellent.

I couldn't quite completely shake the feeling that the book wasn't really 'me' though. However, I do want to read # 2 and see where that leads... I'm worried that it is out already, though... I'll have to get to the CBS this weekend!

I GOT SAGA NUMBER 1!! FINALLY.
When I saw it on the shelf ... I almost grab two copies and ate one just to make sure I got a copy .. after the feeding frenzy over this comic.

I could go on and on about how good this or that was but overall ...

I just found it sweet.

Posted by Power Boy on :

colors were a striking point and stood out beyond the excellent art.

and the whole universe was quickly and neatly established and felt to have some unique or fresh attitudes about it.

I especially loved the main characters, and how real they felt rather than noble or exemplary.

Posted by Power Boy on :

And TV headed people !!! [Big Grin]

I love those guys!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

TV headed robot royalty sexing doggy style!!!

Posted by Power Boy on :

that was a new one. ha ha

Grabbed third printing of # 1, # 2 nowhere to be seen.

Will read soon...probably this weekend.

Posted by Dev - Em on :

Read it./ It was very good. The art was great, and the coloring was fantastic.

Will stick around for a while...provided I can find #2.

Posted by Power Boy on :

Dev are you a Y the Last Man fan ? just curious.

Posted by Dev - Em on :

Yeah, really liked Y. I read it through trades at my local library so I did not have to wait too long to finish it.

Posted by Lard Lad on :

I LOVED Y! I'm gonna reread that very soon!

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

So, "the Stalk" was freaking creeeeeeeeeeeepy!!! WTF?! Fiona Staples went above and beyond for her / it's introduction!

The second issue was fantastic. It's still so early in the series but I'm already invested in the characters and fascinated in the world-building going on.

Posted by Power Boy on :

yeah, I thought the stalk was ok, bad ass 'enough' looking ...

and then ... it got a whole lot creepier !

Finally caught up with issue two.

This is most definitely going on the pull list.

That was a great issue. The Stalk was freakin wild. And the Horrors were...well, I cannot wait to find out more about them.

Posted by MLLASH's back on :

I did look for issue 2 last week but it was sold out apparently.

Posted by Dev - Em on :

There's a second print out. Ask your shop if they can order it.

Posted by Power Boy on :

the Horrors were cool ! not expecting that!

Preview ... #3 out today ...

http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=12421

I have to wait for the weekend to get mine.

Posted by Dev - Em on :

Got mine today, have not read it yet.

Posted by MLLASH's back on :

Just read 2-3... and it convinced me wether or not SAGA is "me".

For now, it iS. It's going on the pull!

Posted by Power Boy on :

Enjoyed #3 but not as much as 1 or 2. I think there needed to be a bit more action ... wondering if it may read better as a trade ...

also, I think there should've been more tension over the decision with the horrors.

The scene with the stalk was funny.

whohoah ... Saga just got way adult way fast!

and by adult, I don't mean an adults only restaurant ... I mean 'adult' book store. 'adult' movie ...

My CBS usually bags books with "adult" content like this, but Saga #4 was just sitting there, not so far from "Avengers Academy," for any unsuspecting person to pick up.

I didn't see 4 last time at my CBS. I don't really want to get back into it if it is like that, I have real porn for that. Any other info about the story??

Posted by Power Boy on :

4 and 5 were a bit of a lull IMO, a few good things but things were ... some quick action ... rather than story.

I wouldn't compare it to Y the Last Man yet. It seems paced much differently as well. The world is being fleshed out, which makes it a bit slow, and while I am really curious about the characters and the art is great, but there's neither enough junk food or nutrition.

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

So the "porn / sex" stuff wasn't nearly as raunchy as I expected, but I've been friends with Pov for like 12 years so I'm pretty hard to surprise. [Big Grin] [Razz]

#4 & 5 were a bit quicker reads (though the letters page are pretty dense!). I really like The Will, and enjoyed his destroying that pimp and how this sequence will likely act as his motivation hereafter.

#5 meanwhile did a good job at establishing Marko is more than a wussy type (like Yorrick--who I love by the way, but hopefully you guys know what I mean). Here, Marko goes on a total rampage at one point, and I look like forward to seeing that later in the series, especially when Alanna can't regin him in.

This book continues to delight!
Currently one of my top 5 faves.

Posted by lowercase mllash on :

I was gonna drop it but Ms. Cockintail sent me issues 4-5, which I really enjoyed!! Fiona's artwork is FAB-YOO-LOSA!!!

Posted by Power Boy on :

Saga #6 sold me on the series. Everything is coming together and picking up steam.

Posted by lowercase mllash on :

Dang, 6 is already out?!?! *glares*

Posted by Cobalt Kid on :

After checking out Hawkeye and the Walking Dead, my immediate next read was Saga, which returned for the second arc! Anyone not reading this series really needs to get in on the ground floor now!

Marko's parents showing up cause all kinds of anxiety, and Vaughn smartly doesn't let up for one second. I already can't stand them, especially the mother.

Alana continues to get some kick ass dialogue. Both of them are just fantastic characters already.

Also, the letter's page for #7 was actually quite fantastic! Probably the best letter's page I've read in an age. This included a great letter analzying Marko's committment to non-violence and how that can be exciting in a comic book, which I found insightful and eye-opening.
