Mine would have to be Volume 3 # 56. Even though Blok is the only character on the cover, this is Shadow Lass's great moment. She risks her own life to save Mon-El and Blok, and proves just how deep and passionate her love for Mon-El is.

And I am so thankful that the issue was guest-penciled by Eduardo Barreto, one of the classiest, most under-appreciated artists in comics. What's become of him? Is he still alive? Does he still do any work for American publishers?
Great thread, I'll need to give this some thought. There have been some truly great moments in Legion history.

On the subject of Shady, i can't recall which issue it was, that she underwent an ancient Talokian ritual which required that she cut off a finger as proof of her love for Mon-el...

That was both a bizarre, yet oddly-touching gesture IMO

Brian
I haven't read that one. It must have been after this story, because she has all her fingers.
A Legion story featuring my fav character, hmm?
As it was literally the ONLY story that she starred in, that would be the 'Exile' storyline in LSH #221-223, with Dawnstar.
Timberwolf fulfilling Karate Kid's will. Probably my favorite.

There was an issue, which may have been to spotlight Projectra, but effectively spotlighted Projectra, KK, and Ferro Lad. I liked that one very much also.

I agree to both of these. Levitz at his best.
Some of the back up stories in Legion history have been outstanding for this. For example...

During the Action run or early Superboy/LSH (probably S/LSH) there was a story that featured Shadow Lass and Night Girl in action together. This was an awesome story and really spotlighted a team up that made incredible sense yet never ever got used other than in that one story. shake
Another that comes to mind is the story spotlighting Tenzil and his date with Vi. We learn so much about Tenzil as a person in that one story. He suddenly becomes a sympathetic character as opposed to the Legion's running gag.
Probably LSH 288, which announced that the quick-thinking, ass-kicking Dream Girl was back. That's my girl!
TMK # 11, 14, 49 and 50 featuring the Tenz!
I have a few.

By far TMK Legion v4 annual #1 with Ultra Boy. That was just amazing.

With Lash i pick #55/56 of v3. Two of my favorite issues. Blok rocks! wink We need him back.

v4 #28 Sun Boy. v4 #20. I wanna say Laurel's story v4 #9 but right now I can't remember much of it.

For that matter while not much of a focus #305 Violet's story.

CHAM. Cham battling the Durlan rituals. Cham inflitrating Starfinger's criminal network. While it wasn't one issue it was a nice background story.

Besides this one, I'd go for Lu's portrayal during the first Mordru story and also during the Conspiracy storyline.

I'd also mention Adv. #306, for Polar Boy.
Oh the Subs count? There was an issue where Stone Boy saved the day and was offered membership but declined. And the issue where Color Kid saves the day by rendering kryptonite dust inert.

I got a real kick outta the Subs when I read the archives. Such a desire to do good, such stupid powers, so much fun. That and I'm sure that if I were a super-hero I'd be more like them in ability than the Legionnaires. We need the Subs in the current series.
Well, I was counting Polar Boy because he later became a Legionnaire (though, technically, the other Subs did as well, except Night Girl)...
Bouncing Boy's the absolute tits in Adv.380!
You know that's when Lu fell for him!
Speaking of Lu, one of my favorite spotlights was Triad's origin story from the first year of the Reboot. It gave her character more depth then she had ever had in her whole history.
Yeh, but in revamping her the writers forgot the names of her parents. In the old time line they were Humre and Silvou Durgo
white witch

magic wars, the last issue of the baxter.
The original Element Lad origin story (Adv. #307), "The Ordeal of Element Lad" (Action #390-391) where defeats an army of chem-humanoids, and his last-minute defeat of Mordru at the conclusion of Earthwar (S/LSH #245), just to name a few of the early ones.
LSH Annual 6 which featured Kinetix's origin story.
Like Jorg, by far for me it is LSH v4. Annual #1, featuring an in depth history of Ultra Boy. This is IMO one of the greatest Legion issues/stories ever produced and I'm still astonished at how well-written it is and how much I've loved Jo as a character ever since.

My other favorite is the Star Boy spotlight in v.3 #306. To me, this is Levitz in his prime, and the ongoing conversation b/t Star Boy and Wildfire just draws me right into the issue every time.

I've always loved all three Tenzil issues and the Brin spotlight too.

Is that the story with the Monster Master? Sorry, I don't know the old issue numbers as I have only read them in digest format. Anyhoo, the story where Bouncing Boy draws the lot to take on the Legion of Super-Monsters and single-handedly beats the massive Earthquake Beast has to be my favorite "spotlight" story.

Second in line is the issue where Blok joins the Legion and single-handedly whups up on the Starburst Bandits.
I'm surprised that no one has mentioned "Mettle" the special spotlight on Cosmic Boy after his family was injured in a terrorist bombing. This was the first time I saw Levitz play with Cos's powers and really explore the full extent of what he could do.
I think Cos had a right to be pissed off in that story, Director Lad, because Hu and Ewa Krinn were killed outright from the fireball attack and Pol was seriously injured from the fallout...

Brian
There were some great uses of magnetism brought out in that story. Not sure if they were ever really explored any more or even used again after that.
Ah, "Mettle". Another instance of Rokk's abusive behaviour, as he unmercifully slams the woman he professes to love through a wall, iirc.

One of these days, I'm going to just have to make an entire Preboot Rokk Krinn Physical & Emotional Abuse Checklist!
Hey!! Don't pick on my baby... er, Rokk. Don't pick on Rokk!!

...yes.
Lash I am 100% aboard with your assessment of Cos. Now you tell me there's even more than the Sinde escapade (S/LSH 212) and the "forehand smash" of Light Lass in the (S/LSH 215) Cos spotlights. Next your gonna tell me Cos becomes the Time Trapper. wink

As for a favorite spotlight, I've a soft spot for the Supergirl robot story. Shows how kooky Brainiac 5 could become without the love and support of his team-mates. Plus its got my favorite version of the Supergirl costume rendered in glorious Grell pencils. (And I love that the cape fastened around her neck. Illogical? So what?)
Off the top of my head, I'd say mid-'70s story where Cos is observing the one day of the year when Braalians are forbidden to use their powers. He ends up saving his teammates by using his flight ring to move an object (I forget exactly what it was--it's been a while wink ) instead of his magnetic powers. It really showed how seriously he took his commitment.

It was also the story that marked the debut of the Cosmic Bustier. love
Rockhopper, that Cos spotlight you mentioned was the forehand smash of Ayla (That was so hard must have left a mark). Lash pointed me to it in the Sinde thread. (S/LSH 215) Feh I wonder if the Emerald Empress would have revived him if she had seen him slap a woman across the room. mad

Can you tell I hate Cos? wink
Which issue of S/LASH was that in, Rockhopper? I vaguely remember Cos walking away as Light Lass and other Legionnaires were being blasted. The artwork was by Mike Grell and Bill Draut, if that's any help...

Brian
Apparently it was S/LSH #215, per Tamper Lad.

TL, I kinda figured you weren't a Cos fan from your avatar laugh . That's okay. We love you anyway! wink
My worst habit is reading the very first post of a topic without reading those which had already answered my question - D'OH!!!!!
