Legion World
The Legion that is being featured in the ongoing JLA/JSA crossover is very similar to that of the preboot, but not identical. Karate Kid, for example, is very much alive, even though we saw his burnt body during the LSV saga. Given the overwhelming positive response that this new-old Legion has produced among fans, I think it is quite likely that we will see it published again in some form.

This new Legion would give writers the chance to erase/change bits of continuity from the preboot that they deem to be uninteresting or cumbersome. Keeping in mind that too many continuity changes would probably ruin the attraction that many of us have for this new incarnation of the team (not to mention make things really, really confusing), are there any pieces of preboot continuity that you'd like to have changed? Things that really, really bother you? The way I see it, it is actually quite likely that future Legion writers may see threads like this, perhaps we can even influence them.

The rules:

-Keep changes to an absolute minimum

-We are assuming that the 5YL period hasn't happened/won't happen. There is no need to change things that happened then (except for things that reach way back, I'm thinking here of the Lightning Lad/Proty thing)

-Changes that could just as well happen as future storylines don't need to be mentioned.

Here is one thing to get us started:

-Sarya of Venegar should not be dead. She is too good a villain to waste
The Clone Invisible Kid and Ferro Lad that happened back in SLSH 203 or therabouts..they should not have exploded they should still be around as full fledge legion members. And though we didnt see their statues..tellus and quislet should defintely be on the team!!!
When they destroyed the moon and then the Earth. forget about it.
This violates your no post-5 year gap rule, in a way, but all Legionairres who've ever existed should be on the active members roster. In Jeckie's case I'd go with a human version--not that I minded "Sneckie" myself.
I'm comfortable with pretty much everything up until the retcon that erased Superboy and Supergirl from Legion history. I haven't read the crossover, so I don't know if it addresses this point at all, but that would be my suggestion for a place to start.
I'd say leave it precisely as it was right at Crisis, with the exception that Val is alive now. Jeckie's powers somehow end up explaining why (maybe Nemesis Kid lives too then as the penalty).

However, the Reflecto saga must never be mentioned ever again. Seriously. NEVER AGAIN.
I agree with keeping the same history just never mentioning certain things. smile Like Reflecto.

Karate Kid still alive? Not even sure about that. Just go till Crisis. Bring back Supergirl. Superboy cannot stay Super"boy". Krypton Kid? Superman? but that's just a name change...no biggie.
I'd make Dynamo Boy the Time Trapper. wink
I'd second that. cool
We actually should as legionworld figure out someone from Legion history that best fits the bill.

I'm being serious. smile Should we start a list/thread? I'm sure there is an obscure character in Legion history (or DCU history) that fits.
Actually, I'm pretty serious about Dynamo Boy. smile
And it's a brilliant idea.
Jorg, you totally gotta check out Eryk's full explanation for it--it makes tons of sense! Its probably the only explanation besides TT = Cos that truly works, rather than the 'TT is not a person but an entity'.

And actually, I like the idea of the TT's identity being mysterious, where we are left in the dark as the true nature of what he is (person vs. concept/entity).
Robin the Boy Wonder should be an honorary Legionnaire.
Darn it!
I've always thought that Dick Grayson should have met a Legionnaire or two somewhere along the way in his career. The 70's would have been perfect for it.

Think about it, a Robin the <strike>boy</strike> Teen Wonder/Superboy and the LSH story would rock.

Throw in Speedy, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Wonder Girl, Lilith and Gnaark and I'm sold.

Maybe that can be a 'Year Two' (or three?) mini-series...
If wishes was fishes my friend...or is that the other way 'round? Whatever.

A REAL 60's style Teen Titans-Legion team up? Hellzyas!

Wonderchick ROCKS da HOUSE

He met Karate Kid in the 1970s. In KK's own book even, issue #14! KarateKid
Remember the 2 part History of the DC Universe mini-series that was published after COIE?

How about a History of the Legion of Super-Heroes mini-series? Just to skin over this Legion's continuity and show how it differs.

I'd go so far as doing an "Avengers Forever" type mini with the Legion with TT being the focal point much like Kang was in "Avengers Forever" Hell you could tie The Dynamo boy As TT in there.

It could tie the 3 Legions together and explain how and why they met "Legion Of Three Worlds.
I think that the classic 1st appearance of Mordru story in Adv. #369-370 would be different if Superman didn't begin his super hero career in Smallville as Superboy OOPs almost forgot! Make that Superteen or young Superman.

Maybe stories such as these could be re-told in a LSH Classified book.
I think it might work to do a little of both.

Mention some oblique differences, while steaming ahead into new stories, and then go back and have a flashback issue once or twice a year (perhaps in a double-sized Annual?) that covers an old story, such as the first encounter with Universo, or the LSV war, or the attack of Computo, updating it to fit the 'new' old continuity (where Val lives, for instance).

Only do this to the parts of stories that have changed. We don't need to see the entire LSV assault on Orando retold, it was already an effective story as told, we just need to see how Karate Kid was saved by some sort of time-travel intervention, and the blackened body turned out not to be his, but a clever substitution. As a twist, that aspect of the plan could have been implemented by Sensor Girl, who would have pointed out that there was no one else on the team capable of forming a deception, an 'illusion' that would fool herself...

That way, the continuity of an excellent story remains intact, KK's heroic act remains undiminished, Projectras evolution to Sensor Girl continues unchanged, and yet Val is returned to the Legion (where, sadly, his relationship with Jeckie will never be quite the same, as what was moments for him has been a year for her, with some serious changes in her personality and development, leaving some room for drama there).
Why does it have to some sort of time travel mechanisim to change history? Since this isn't the actual pre crisis LSH the explanation that in this reality some Legionaires didn't die is good enough for me.
Superman of New Earth knows a PC type Legion. Has statues of them even.

The Supergirl of New Earth knows the WaK Legion.

Will the PC type Legion have their own Supergirl from another Earth? Or will they have Laurel Gand? Or have no Supergirl type character?

And the current Flash is from the ZH Legion.

*my head hurts now*

Geoff Johns was quoted somewhere (can't remember) stating the WaK Legion is the New Earth Legion.

*head hurts more*
wow this is kind of similar to my old Dannyverse stories...

Hmph!

wink
Super Lad?
Super Kid?
Super Adolescent?
Super Son of Krypton?
Super Waif?
Super Orphan?

They don't quite have the same ring do they? Pay off the Siegels I say.

I've always wanted a Legion/Teen Titans team up with the original Titans Mystery Lad mentioned. Throw in the Hawk and the Dove too! When we FINALLY got a team up in that dreadful Universe Ablaze 2-parter, the plot was so abysmal it wasn't worth the paper it was printed on.

I couldn't agree more.

Still, what would the word "Krypton" mean to those it was meant to inspire? If Mon-El was great adopted as a code name for Lar Gand, why not just use Kal-El? Or Kon-El, for that matter? At least Joe Q. Non-Meta-Human sitting at home reading the paper wouldn't be trying to figure out what it meant. Also, I would hate to see a whole slew of inspired copycats with names like Neon Girl, Helium Lad, and Captain Radon.

Superboy
KK, well Super"boy" insprired the entire Legion to call themselves boy, girl, lad, lass, kid, etc.

If he called himself Kal-El...would they call themselves Garth-El, Rokk-El, and Imra-El? wink
You could never have Gim-El and Gym'll in the same room together... too much confusion.

laugh LOL
Superman Lad?
How about the Hero Formerly Known as Superboy?
... is Super Boy an infringement of the trademark? It's kinda like Ultra Boy (as opposed to Ultraboy)
I could live with Super Kid I guess.
I think "Bucky" and "Speedy" are both available.
I'm sure classic Legion moniker "Marvel Lad" would allow them to avoid any nasty copyright/trademark issues! wink
I don't know if you're serious about the Marvel Lad monicker, EDE, but I'd be okay with it, even though I'd never thought of the idea myself before. Maybe it could be explained that young Kal-El feels the need to adopt a secret identity when he's in the 31st century for some reason. Besides this, I've always liked the brown Marvel Lad costume.

Oh, I can't imagine that li'l company would have *any* problem with "Marvel Lad and the Legion of Super-Heroes"! wink

But, seriously, it's groovy to finally find someone else who likes the Marvel Lad outfit! I'm a huge fan!
