Legion World
[Reposted from the vBulletin board]

JANUARY 3, 2013
Hello, and welcome to the brand new LEGION WORLD TOP 40.

This list continues off of the Top 40 list I started on the old board. It ranks the Top 40 posters of the previous month—or at least those who have ranked down to No. 200 on the cumulative (“Hot 100”) list. (I could extend these tabulations even further to accommodate recent posters who’ve been posting a lot yet haven’t made it into the Top 200 yet, but we’ll see how things go.)

The Top 40 provides a glimpse into the posting habits of the board and who is prominent in our community. Post totals in general are considered to be something of a badge of honor, an achievement of longevity and commitment to Legion World.

However, here’s the usual disclaimer: these lists are done solely for fun. They are not meant to encourage anyone to post merely for the sake of being listed or moving up the chart.
Nevertheless, some noteworthy happenings are in order:

Biggest Movers
Fat Cramer—up twenty-three to No. 7
Blockade Boy—up fourteen to No. 15
Leap Year Lord—up twelve to No. 5
razsolo—up eleven to No. 22

Biggest Drops
Shining Son—down eighteen to No. 40
Kent Shakespeare—down seventeen to No. 26
Rockhopper Lad—down fourteen to No. 27
Blacula—down twelve to No. 36
Legion Tracker—down twelve to No. 24

Eight Debuts: Faraway Lad (17), the Hermit (29), Abin Quank (30), Candlelight (31), Nightcrawler (34), rokk steady (35), lancesrealm (38), Klar Ken T5477 (39).

Wooooo and Hoooooo. I'm not 20th anymore. I'm.... 13th. Crud.
We all sure posted a lot less last month! Guess the online Christmas party wasn't as big a draw as we thought. Virtual beer and punch weren't tasty enough?
I think many of us thought our posts wouldn't count after Dec. 11th or so (when Nighty did the back-up), so we didn't bother!
I can't even see my post count right now!

shrug

I'll just have to post for money, instead of glory.

I was kind of curious about that, actually. Can anyone see the post counts now? *curious curious*
There's a way of accessing them through the Control Panel, but I'm not sure if everyone has access to that function.
My low post count last month regarding the supposed back-up had nothing to do with thinking the posts wouldn't "count" but knowing that anything I felt I might have 'important' to say (i.e. reviews, etc.) would all have to be copied to the new board or eventually lost forever. Turns out, that was never going to be the case with what eventually ended up being Nighty's solution for our new home.

I can only see non-mods counts' that way (which means that I can't actually see my own count!). And I expect that non-mods can't access it at all.

*is surprised NC hid it from plain view*

Holy canolis, I'm in the top 10!

That must never be allowed to happen again, I'm supposed to be the power behind the throne!

I posted more last month because I had more time and I rather liked the idea of my posts getting wiped out, in a live for the moment type of thing.

I suspect global mods can see more than forum mods.
You're probably right.

Well, it is 2013, so you're very timely.

Too late. Once you're on the throne, you become a powerless figurehead like the rest of us. wink
Whoot! Finally made the big time!

Are you the power in the bottom, too?

I only wanted it hidden in posts like before. Didn't realize it was hidden from everyone's profile...fixed it now.
Thanks, Nighty. (That was timely, as I already blew all my posting money on beer and *~ahem~* herbal supplements.)

Probably so. The above list runs from January 3 to February 1.

LOOKIT ME.
Sorry to be so scarce these days. I get a lot of errors for some reason. Also, the "Search" function never seems to work for me.

In addition, I spent all week working a production/"QC" job that leaves my hands hurting like FireLad by the time I get home every day.

[grumble]
Good to see you, cleome. Need some aloe?
hug

Oh, LT. Always a gentleman.

The search does seem to have a mind of its own, and it's not in sync with mine. confused
Welcome to the list, Conjure Lass!

Really good to see you back, cleome.

I've been pretty busy too lately.

Thanks for the hard work tracking all these posters, HWW! Wow, extending down to 250 must have added quite a bit of work. Much appreciated.
Well, this has gotten my competitive spirit burning! I wonder if I'm in the top 250 of all time yet?

You sure have a great way of answering my question smile Thank you sweetie!

Gimme a call if you ever want a costume redesign - though your current look's already a classic!

It seems like posting in general is currently in a slump. For most of the three and a half years I've been doing these lists, there have been at least 10 posters with 100 posts or more each month. This month, there were only four.

(My own posting has declined considerably in the last few months, as well, due to general busy-ness and posting burn-out, I think.)

Anyway, Ibby, you still managed to snag the top spot for the fifth month in a row. Can anyone unseat you? Where's the competitive spirit of LW? wink

Ah, the Wildire-shooting-his-foot-off-instead-of-his-mouth look gets 'em every time.

You're welcome, K(ZS), and welcome to the Top 40.
#2?

Hot City.
Cripes, if I posted more than Cobie, maybe the world is coming to an end.
That's exactly how I feel being in the #2 spot.

Everyone else just stopped posting .... shrug
I feel like I need to come up with lots of inane things to say (moreso than I already do) so that I can get further up. Don't worry, it's just that time of year when everyone is kind of in the dumps and isn't feeling like saying much. *nod nod*

I think the world did end and nobody bothered to tell us. laugh

Have been pretty busy lately too! Not so much the posting burnout, although sometimes I am too exhausted to go online. But inactivity on other posters affects me - if nobody replies to a thread then I hesitate to bump it up, and a lot of our inane threads have slipped smile

Weeeeeeeeeell, I'm pretty competitive myself tongue Trying to see how long I can keep up the streak!
Well, let this be the first of a mild post flurry for me. Just been tired lately. No real reason.
I'm cutting way back on social media during Lent.
Honest question. I've heard of Lent many times, but have no actual idea what it is or where it originates. Would you give me a bit of info? I could look it up, but on things like this, I enjoy the personal perspective more than a dry ressertation of facts.
Would love to oblige rickshaw, but I gave up explaining things for Lent.

Well, that, and I don't have a damn clue.
Oh HEY, woo HOO! I just noticed at the beginning of this thread I got "Biggest Drop" honors for January! YAYYYYYYYYYYY!

I take anything I can get. Unfortunate you get no mention for dropping off the list entirely. smile

With the board change it's taking me an extraordinarily long time to get back into it, as I have apparently become overdependent on notifications coming in for threads I've subscribed to. Taking a while to re-establish that. Plus I've gotten back into roleplaying games and so am getting out more, and reading more rp stuff online, mostly G+ and blogs.

So Shining Son is temporarily Prodigal Son.

Well, I've managed to drop off the list completely for March.

With my upcoming workload I'll probably remain off the list till June.
Hey, if everyone hangs around some more we could throw some costume-changing parties! Come on, it'll be fun!

Rick, Lent is the 40 days before Easter. Don't have an exhaustive list of religions that practice it, but it's generally a time of giving up things in honor of Jesus' sacrifice. Common practices during Lent include abstinence (it used to be meat, but I think now people choose to give up different things) and fasting (one full meal only per day).
Wow. Cool info, Ibby. Thanks.

or, with all the info tracking I have to do I'll be able to pop by more often laugh
^ I do the same thing - when there's a lull at work because I have to wait for files from other people, to LW I go!
Posted By: .. Re: Legion World TOP 40 Posters of the Month - 03/11/13 03:13 PM
its kinda odd Ibby...when I first took the coordinator postion I thought I'd be spending most of my time in the field, verifying information and such.
First few days were like that, but now I'm spending at least half my day inside logging stuff into databases and spreadsheets.
so they give all the info to you, and you compile/review?

I also thought I'd be spending a lot of time client-side, but a lot of my work involves doing research or working on files in the office.
Posted By: .. Re: Legion World TOP 40 Posters of the Month - 03/14/13 09:07 PM
Ibby, my counterpart and I were give a flashdrive with all the relevant info on it, but the files are a mess.
So I reorganized all the files and setup spreadsheets to track what we've done.
We are also setting up a temporary permit center that we will be using during the maintenance cycle.
We will be getting lots of field work, but it probably won't be for a few weeks
Well, I mentioned it elsewhere, but a big reason I haven't posted much lately is because one of my not-so-permanent crap jobs messed up my hands. I was stuck doing this work all through February. shake Now that I've been away from there for almost two weeks, I'm starting to feel a bit better. So I'll see what I can do about posting more often.
Where's voice recognition software when you need it?
Dragon. My dad has it on his.
Posted By: .. Re: Legion World TOP 40 Posters of the Month - 03/16/13 10:59 PM
I remember playing around with Dragon many years ago. It was pretty good back then. Considering how far voice recognition has come it must be totally kick ass now

Oh, that explains it! I'm sure the field work will be a relief after all the data organizing you're doing!

Ibby...yeah I'm looking forward to doing some outside work.
I usually spend a fair amount of time on computers at work, but not organizing information like this. Data entry is soul crushing to me.
I feel ya. The parts of the job I hated most were encoding and double-checking questionnaires. It was the analysis part that was fun!
I'm just wondering why 40 was the original choice for the number of songs on a chart. Yes, I can google it, but I'll just try and guess the answer first.
From Wikipedia ("Top 40"):

"The term "Top 40" for a radio format appeared in 1951.[1]

The Top 40, whether surveyed by a radio station or a publication, was a list of songs that shared only the common characteristic of being newly released. Its popularity coincided with the rapid changes in recording technology in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1954, the recording industry agreed upon a standard recording format for higher fidelity music, so any new record player could play any new record. Also in that year, new single records were released on 45 rpm records, and the Top 40 thereafter became a survey of the popularity of these records (and their airplay on the radio). Tape recording had become perfected, allowing artists more freedom as they composed songs, especially novelty songs.

Other lists of hit songs may include a different number of entries, such as a "Top 50" or Hot 100 (Billboard magazine). By the late 1980s and the early 1990s, the 45 rpm record would decrease in popularity and other means would be used to evaluate the popularity of new songs, such as cassette-single, CD single, and digital MP3/AAC sales (plus radio airplay)."

The article does not say why 40 was selected as the number. My understanding while listening to "American Top 40" in the '70s and '80s was that radio stations, not wanting to play every new release or even everything in the Hot 100, focused on the Top 40 because those were surefire hits. (This, of course, means that circular logic was involved: In order to get radio airplay, a record had to be in the Top 40, but a record couldn't be in the Top 40 unless it had already received sufficient airplay and/or sales.) Of course, I could be wrong.
Could it be cause of the song length? If a song is roughly 3-5 minutes long, then 40 songs would take about 120 to 200 minutes or 2 to 3 1/3 hours. Would that have been just about enough time for one radio show during that time period?
The Top 40 format preceded the "American Top 40" radio program, which began in 1970. In fact, I remember that AT40 expanded from a three-hour format to a four-hour format in the late '70s because song length had increased.

In fact, you raise an interesting point. During the '60s and into the '70s, two and a half to three minutes was considered the norm for most pop songs. (Some records, such as "You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling" by the Righteous Brothers, which clocks in at about 4 minutes, "lied" about their length on their labels.)

From The Beatles onward, though, the length of pop records gradually increased. "Hey Jude" clocks in at 7:11, IIRC, and Don McLean's "American Pie" lasts approximately 8:40 (I have the single version; the song takes up both the A and B sides of the vinyl disc.) Ironically, as I was drafting this response, I was listening to "Green-Eyed Lady" by Sugarloaf (1970), which clocks in at 7:26, on YouTube. By then, the length of songs no longer served as a barrier to whether or not they gained radio airplay and/or became hits.

So, no, the length of records had nothing to do with 40 being the number of significance.
Well, I would have figured it was related to time allotted to play them all. Curious. The hunt begins.
My favorite theory is that it was based of the number of singles in an old juke box.
"Top 40" is also the name of a common radio format, and I'll bet that's what use the number 40 first. They probably came up with 40 as the number of hits that gives the best return. That is, keeps most listerners listening. Doing more out of the top 100 meant the bigger hits didn't get as much airplay, and some would tune out to other channels looking for them. Doing less means people are tuning out searching for the new ones they heard last week on Bandstand at #35.

Top 40 was probably the sweet spot for the teenage rock audience.
SS' theory sounds good, being related to attention span.

But all the nuggets you've been writing about are highly interesting and informative too HWW!

I'm glad you like them, Ibby. One of the most fascinating aspects of "AT40" was the historical tidbits and trivia that would be used to introduce the songs. Who knew listening to pop music would be good training for scholarship? smile

I'm expecting another busy month at work. So, last month was supposed to be really busy and i broke 100...maybe again this month for me too?
I find that extremely busy days at work when I'm NOT in front of a client drive me online too - when I begin to get overwhelmed I take a short break, crank out a few posts, and then get back to work feeling refreshed.
I find myself limiting my posts here. I don't want to monopolize anything. I look down and see my name as last poster for more than two or three threads and then I slow it down. Slow nights, though, and I post more.
I'm kind of shameless that way (or maybe it's cause of timezones - usually when I'm one almost nobody else is). I don't really get conscious even when I'm last poster on half a page's worth of threads.

Huh, I am shameless!
Yeah I post in waves also and I don't worry about it. There's always a slow period coming up.
Guys, I gotta get to 500 posts by the end of April. I'VE GOT TO DO IT.
To quote every guest appearance by Rob Schnider, "Ewe can do eeet!"
Well CL, if we reply to everything posted by each other... smile You're not that far off!
How ya comin' along there, CL?
For Conjure Lass.

(. . . just substitute "miles" for "posts," "walks" for "make," and "man" for "poster.")

Looks like I managed to post more this month than last.
If this new work schedule keeps up I'll be a Timetrapper by Yule
I likewise benefited from new ram assignments at work. I'm pulling a lot less overtime now.

HWW, thanks for updating the list again! How often do you plan to update the one that tracks overall total number of posts?
All that posting and i didn't move! *weeps*
But you were only 3 posts away from the next spot smile
Hey, KEEPING your position is no small thing, especially if it's in the top 10.
True. This was a bigger posting month than last.

I was originally going to do that quarterly, but I've been too busy this semester.
It is a lot of work smile and I think twice a year works quite well too.
I was the BIGGEST MOVER (up 23 spots) with only 44 posts???

Well, you were the Biggest Drop last month. At least there's symmetry.
LT when you can get on the list with 5 posts, then 44 is quite a jump.
This Top 40 list is like being on a bungee cord.
boingy boingy. I made a concentrated effort to post more this month, even it it wasn't deep, entielecchul stuff. but still. Butt still. Butt stillah mah heart... spaghetti.
I've been going up and down a lot myself. I'd better work on being more consistent!

Biggest drop in April? The jealousy and competitiveness that comprise 2-quarters of my being demand that I strike back!

However, the quarter of my being that looks on the bright side (a trait it really helps to have if you are jealous and competitive) is pleased to have a special mention!

And the quarter of my being that is great hair needs a haircut.

Yes, and I would have been No. 1 if Ibby hadn't found his second wind over the last few days. mad wink

Lots of interesting things happen this month:

Posters who achieve new peak postions:
moi (# 2)
Virie (# 3)
Shining Son (# 6 - welcome to the Top Ten!)
jimgallagher (# 15; in an odd coincidence, jim swaps places with Jerry)
lancesrealm (# 23)

Three newcomers to the chart:
Man of Valor (# 16)
Leather Wolf (# 30)
Kid Charlemagne (# 40)

Best of all, there were so people posting a lot this month that single-digit posters were bumped from the list. Hey, if you wanna make the Top 40, you gotta work for it. smile

There's no stopping the onslaught that is Ibby.

Honey, I'll consider it a good thing when you're the one going up and down!
Bloody NASS. I did about half of my usual posts!

I do believe I am the only one other than IB on the list who has been number one! That will have to be some consolation.

I couldn't have if I'd tried.

I interpret it as a sign from the Legion gods that my destiny is about to be fulfilled. wink
At this point, posters who've peaked in the Top 5 are as follows:

1 Ibby
1 Peebz

2 EDE
2 Palardy
2 Rick
2 me

3 cleome
3 Quis
3 Kent
3 Virie

4 Cramer
4 Dev

5 Cobie
5 Leap Year Lord

What this means is . . . well, nothing really. But competition is fierce on this chart. Anything can happen!

Including....ME! ElasticLad
Even though I'm a longtime alt of Poverty Lad, I often hire an incredibly attractive male model / method actor to play the real life me for meet-ups.

Though I certainly didn't intend having to pay him for having a threesome with Caliente and CJ in San Diego that time!
Sometimes they throw in a freebie.

Hush, SS! Quislet might make dominating this list his new goal, and then none of us will have a chance!

You should go ahead and use this to become the first actual Legionnaire on the LMB to write and post fanfic about themselves.
Tasmia is going to get a pretty nasty surprise in her Omnicom tomorrow!

All milestones are meaningless until someone hits 100,000!
Awwwwwwwwww. Why bother. frown
You think that's bad--once someone hits 100,000, they're all meaningless until 1,000,000!
And once you hit 1,000,000....
Your post count resets to zero! ElasticLad Don't tell anybody!
Oh hell. Just let Quislet have the whole world then.

I'm pretty sure thats his long term plan
We will need a new title. What's higher up than Time Trapper?

Didio? heh heh
Space Sapper?
Hmmm....I am on top of Conjure Lass, who went way down. I feel pretty good about that...

Well unlike the Time Trapper, Didio may just succeed in destroying the DCU.

Should we all start sucking up to Quislet now, so he'll decide not to destroy us and just make us his slaves for all eternity?
Start sucking up to Quis? You mean we haven't been doing that all along?!?!
If we had, we wouldn't be trying sohard to dethrone him from the top poster spot!
If you're not sure if someone's sucking up, they're not very good at it.

And it takes forever to overtake someone on the Top Posters of all Time list!
Surely "forever" means nothing to Time Trappers.

In the Pocket Universe I have created, I am the only Time Trapper. There I shall reign unchallenged until Mon-El shows up and reality punches it out of continuity.

Which he has done / is doing / will do. Time travel. Feh.

I must admit that it is going to be hard to maintain this spot once I get into Marvel Heroes. This website competes with others for satisfying my need for entertainment.

Give it time, DC are going a great job of un-creating everything themselves
I'm waiting for cyborg Mon-El.

Or Mon-El Blue and Mon-El Red (not to be confused with Mon-El Premium Draft and Mon-El Light, who has the same great taste but only 1/3rd the calories).

I know not this Mon-El of whom you speak, but I'm pretty sure Valor will save him! wink

That Lars was invisible, like our own IB.
I may bu unseen, but I am definitely not un-felt!
Well that's a useful skillset.
Indeed.
Useful for making Lardy speechless, anyway wink

This is a first! Now it's me making Ang jealous!

Lardy speechless? Now you're just being ridiculous.
One word counts as speechless for him.
So many rules to learn here.

Oh, I have one for me. One post counts as 1000.

(Fast-Track Time Trapper! And the only one with a chance of taking down Quislet, Esq...)
*puts popcorn in microwave and pours a drink*

This is gonna be a fun battle to watch!
Wellllll...

I don't think it's gonna hold up much unless I can get Nightcrawler to actually back up my rule with the board software. That's assuming he can even effectively fiddle with the post-counting subroutine.

What can he be bribed with?
You might be able to find some ideas here!

*edited for spelling*
Hmm, slight difference between showing appreciation and "showing appreciation in advance" but some good ideas in there. Unfortunately the most likely effective are a bit expensive, but that's to be expected.
You're welcome smile

A crazy-busy month with 13 posters above 100 posts! Busiest month yet of New-LW and seemingly atypical of June...though I have no data to back that up.

I know its the most I've posted in a long while
Quite a few re-entries. How's total post count for this month compare to previous?

I am afraid to look.

dare I?
Well that was still bad but not as bad as I thought.

Oh, nothing wrong with a Top Ten and 100+ posting month, Peebz!

I don't keep track of those stats, BB. The June survey is found on Page 15 of this thread if you want to compare them.

Maybe what he was scared of seeing is how far I got.
All that matters is I beat Eryk 5 times a year to maintain my #2 status! Coupled with my long term strategy of stealing IB's username and password, I'm heading in the right direction.
Heeeeey. I'm happy being in the top 20. 40 posts is pretty average for me, really. Last month was just INCREDIBLY low and the month before that was just INCREDIBLY high. I'm in the comfort zone again. XD
And in the all-time standings, I moved up to ninth and He Who to seventh. smile
What? I posted more than Quis did last month?

Sadly for you, your strategy backfires because you keep forgetting that you're logged in as me when you post! In fact, half of my 1093 posts this last month came from you.

That explains a lot. Ibby is not a real person--"he" is a collective identity for several posters who are unknowingly in competition with each other.
In fact, half of the 1039 posts attributed to Cobalt Kid actually came from me. Quislet
Well, at least I can claim that all 353 posts attributed to me are my own. (Well, except for a quarter I must have posted while I was asleep.)

In general a bit if a slump from last month. Usually heightened activity from 2 or 3 posters is enough to bump up the post counts of another half-dozen or so - more new content means more stuff to reply to or comment on.
Yes, it has been kind of a slump. It seems like several prolific posters, such as EDE and Conjy, are taking a breather. On the other hand, there has been a lot of activity in the top five of the last 30 Days recently, with Rocky, Peebz, and Teeds all vying for a spot. Teeds finally makes the chart (with the highest debut yet), as does googoomuck.

Chart oddity: Cobie really likes the No. 7 position. He's been there five times, including the last three months.
The Mickey Mantle of posters wink

4!
I got a bit excited.
Set is 4!
I'm not feeling anywhere near 500+ posts coming from me this month, so there's hope for advancement for those who are ambitious! nod

Or maybe I'll surprise myself and BEAST it again? wink
My posting may drop off, too. I just started a new job and, though I love it, that's why this chart was late. My Archives reviews might be delayed, as well.

And while Ibby has made his goal of staying at No. 1 for a full year known, perhaps we'll see someone challenge him for the top spot. wink
Doubt that! lol

New job, eh? Do tell!
If you check my FB profile out, you'll see it all.

Someone wants to make me work even harder!
I am the only one who has bested IB.

shall I again?
Is that a challenge? wink
BAH! I suspect that is not a promising strategy.
I will just stare at my plaque on the wall. At this point it is more prestigious than being a Time Trapper anyway.
Wait, we get plaques? Really? Can I get mine with green font and a black background?

The 2 in front of the 4 just turned invisible. It's kinda shy, that 2.
How do I get a free haircut, that's what I want to know.
We could ask Zee the dragon to burn off your hair.
Oh, I could do it. You can just buy me lunch after.
burn my hair off?
If you want me to burn it off rather than telekinetically chop some off, well... it's unusual but hey, whatever floats your boat!
hmmm perhaps my hair is invulnerable?

Sounds like something to be discovered!

I always assumed your hair was, hence my suggestion about Zee the dragon!

And if it isn't, well Jerry's gonna have to step up...
I think I will do better next month. I can contribute more to the Archives review as it moves closer to the present.
26th?! SHAMEFUL. But I was so swamped last month with school that I barely had time to do anything! Hell, I didn't read ONE COMIC ALL MONTH.

I must rededicate myself to getting in the top ten. LOOK OUT IB!!

What are the earliest Archives that you're familiar with, Emily?

*gasp* a month without comics! Uhoh, I need to step up MY own game now that you're gunning for top spot!
If anyone seriously wants to dethrone IB, well, prepare for complete sleep deprivation because---IBBY DOESN'T SLEEP!!!!! scream
It can't be done, I say! All one can hope is he gets distracted around 70,000 posts or so.
Alas, the sleep IS an issue. Because of overtime and my need to sneak in exercise sessions early in the morning or late at night, my sleep cycle is completely messed up. Sadly, this causes inability to focus so while I can post often to threads requiring short replies (i.e. most MMB or Spaceopoly threads), I have trouble concentrating enough to continue my Homecoming thread on Bits.

So pray I can fix my sleeping habits, or else!

Meditation may be the answer.
How about hibernation?

While I read the old Adventure Era digests my father had, I read those about ten years ago. I was familiar with the last Star Boy story we reviewed because if was referenced in Justice League issues. I have also seen the cover posted somewhere. Once we get to the 1970s I should be able to comment more. I hope we read some Jimmy Olsen because of Darkseid's first appearence. There is a huge difference to how the New Gods treat Superman compared to the Legion of Super-Heroes, which I think represents comics gaining a degree of maturity.

The New Gods were extremely powerful, possibly more so than Superman. It makes sense they'd treat him differently. I wouldn't really say that the Legionnaires' treatment of Superboy as a peer was any less mature; just that it marked a different dynamic and a different period in his life.

I've decided my ultimate goal is to get 7 months at #7. If I can accomplish that, I'll think of something cooler.

Other than being the first to hit 100,000 of course.
What if you accidentally make #6 in a month, Cobie? I guess that'll make you have to restart?
Since I've reached No. 2, I guess the only goal left is to dethrone Ibby.

Of course, the newbies have to buy drinks for all the other Top 40 posters at SHAKES.

With so many women in the Top 10 these days, you don't want to be left behind, Harby!

We gots to do something about this.
heheh. Yeah, He Who, I know, its a bad joke waiting to happen. And the weird thing was, I really wasn't trying to. I may be juvenile at times, but not that badly.
It's amazing what our Freudian subconscious mind does when we're not looking, Rick. smile
mine pretty much just wants sushi.
My conscious mind just wants sushi .... pretty much.
... and by sushi I mean Japanese food.

Are there any alternative meanings for sushi? tongue Care to share, Peebz?

You're all JEALOUS, all of you. JEALOUS! tongue
Hey, all . . .

I wanted to let you know that there won't be a Top 40 list for November. In fact, the October list, above, will probably be the last one for the foreseeable future.

Due to some changes in my life, I no longer have the time to devote to compiling the chart, and, frankly, after four years of doing so, I'm growing a little tired of it. As with all good hobbies, there comes a time to move on.

I know a lot of people like the Top 40 and look forward to seeing it every month. I'm sorry if cancelling it lets you down. I've truly enjoyed sharing my obsession with Top 40/Hot 100 lists with you and the friendly competition and camaraderie they inspire. These lists have been more than just a fun thing to do; they've provided a snapshot of who's posting on LW at any given time. They've also helped preserve a sense of history over our ten years together. I had hoped to keep the chart going for as long as LW lasts.

But all good things do come to an end, and it's time for me to be open to some new diversions in my life. I'll still be around LW, though, albeit not as active as I used to be.

Thanks again for your interest and support of the Hot 100/Top 40. As Casey Kasem used to say, "Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars!"

HWW
HWW, while the list itself is fun to follow, I believe posting is fun in and of itself. I will miss the list but losing it won't make being on LW any less enjoyable. Losing you as an active poster would though, and I am glad you'll still be around. Hope you'll keep us updated on how you're doing,I know I'd be excited to hear more about your new pursuits!
HWW, good things do come to an end so one can make room for other good, maybe better, things. I hope that's true for you now. Thanks for keeping stats on us. We'll fondly remember the "Top 10/40/100 Countdown with He Who Wanders"!
HHW's, it's very cool. This wasn't a "you must do" thing, it was a labor of love by you. And if it is causing disruption, feel no pains over the stoppage. You are not the government. We still love ya.
no.
The first thing I thought when I saw this thread was "that looks like a lot of work." That was before I saw how far back it went.

It stands as a great reference to newbies like myself, to see how the community grew and watch posters join, leave and rejoin. It really gives a sense of what a tight knit community this forum is. I hope that you enjoy your new diversions every bit as much as people have enjoyed these lists.

Oh no wait, that was my "Should HWW ever decide to leave the forum" sentimental post... smile

He Who, I'm in kind of a similar situation to you, so I can relate. I'll miss the Top 40, but I'm glad that at least you'll still be around. Best wishes to you in your new pursuits.
Further proof, if needed, that Beavis and Butthead jokes always mean the end is nigh...

Hopefully you will do more Top 40 Songs from (whichever week) threads, once in awhile!
Well earned rest. Thanks HWW.

I do like to see the list to see who has returned to the board but other than that, I'd be happy if all those "top" 30 day things just went away. Don't see any good purpose in them.

Yes, that would be lovely. I really enjoy those too. I've listened to some music over the last month I wouldn't have thought of without those posts.
Thanks for being so understanding, everyone (well, except for Peebz, maybe smile ).

Yes, I do plan to do more Top 40 songs charts.

Someone must've agreed with you.... hmmm
In any case I will miss the Top 100 and its spin-offs and even the Top Five posters (30 Days), but this could be a blessing in disguise. I think that on some level, seeing these rankings makes many of us (myself included, at times) feel a competitive desire to place highly on these lists and to post more for that purpose. It really shouldn't be about that here on LW.

Huey, I hope this means many good things for your personal life! I know about the new job, but hopefully there's even more good stuff! nod
I agree with Lardy, I did enjoy these "Top" lists while they were there but now that they're gone I do find myself feeling just a little bit more relaxed. They could have acted, on some level, as a competitive trigger.

In the end, what matters most is that we're posting here on LW because we enjoy posting here on LW smile

Still, that shouldn't diminish the enjoyment and fun that this list has brought us in the past.

cheers
I'm glad you guys can admit you can't control your primal animal instincts.

I think many of us have felt the "just five more posts today and I'll be ahead of [fill-in-the-blank]" urge at one point or another.

Anyway, it's turned off for the time being. We can always bring it back at later point if we decide to.
An additional 5 posts a day does add up pretty quickly - 150 a month. And some of us check in more than once a day!
Those urges can now be channelled more appropriately now...to looking at porn. I'm looking at your Pov.
Wait... you're looking at Pov's porn? eek
Do you mean Pov's porn stash, or...?
Ah, Cobie's typos: a never-ending comedy reservoir! nod
A " Pov" can also be slang for engorged phallus!
I assumed you were referring to the fact that in the future, full-immersion porn will allow the viewer to take on the point-of-view of any participant!
C'mon. Y'all don't care about porn. You're just here trying to boost your post count.
I'm only here to boost my pun count!

Speaking of which, I can't believe I missed:

Pov is growing a porn 'stache?
Suits him don't you think?
