Hi Everyone, Dennis Calero here!
Legion fans are clearly the nuttiest, most dedicated and cutest fans ever. I hope my run on Legion is enjoyable for you! Thanks for the invite to the board!'
Dennis
Welcome to Legion World!
I look forward to seeing your work on Legion.
Thanks for joining up Dennis.
Still waiting for the "juicy details" you promised me.
Thanks guys! As far as juicy details, you guys must forgive me but DC wants us all to be very tight lipped. They're arranging interviews and other events to coincide with the "new" direction of the book.
Aren't you the guy that got his name misspelt about three times in one X-Factor issue?
Welcome
Lol, I don't think it was all in one issue, but it was and the editor was very sorry!

Well, I'm glad DC considers the new direction important enough to be worth keeping tightlipped about. I'm looking forward to it, and I appreciate your taking the time to stop by here.
Loose lips sink space ships!
Welcome to Legion World, DC's DC!
"nuttiest, most dedicated, and cutest..."?
Sounds about right.
And
juicy details can only refer to one long-absent Legionnaire!
Er... unless it refers to Leeta-87 or Kono!
Welcome aboard Dennis. Glad you decided to join us here. Looking forward to your run on the book and whatever insights you may have for us as we go on this journey to the 31st century together.
hey Dennis. Quick question. I've heard your of cuban descent? Just wondering if it's true. I saw on wiki you were born in Miami so I can see where someone can assume that.
Hi and welcome!
I'm so excited you joined up-- I absolutely loved your work on X-Factor. Can't wait to see what sorts of adventures you take the Legion through...
I am indeed proudly of Cuban descent.
Welcome Dennis!
(If it's ok, I'm going to move this over to Visionaries.)
Hello, Dennis. Until recently, I had been on the lookout for whatever book you would end up on after X-Factor, and I'm very happy that it's going to be LSH.
One other thing about X-Factor: that page in issue # 8 where Siryn mesmerizes Spider-Man is pure gold, one of the high points of that series.
Welcome, Dennis. Thanks for joining us.
And you're right: We are the nuttiest, most dedicated and cutest!

Uh, got any...cigars?
Kidding!
Well, I did do an issue of Jsa Classified (#25) and I have a Hawkgirl issue (64) coming out as well as an issue of Countdown. So you can see some of the stuff I was doing prior! If you want...
Welcome! I hope you have fun here.
Welcome Dennis, hope you can find the time to just hang out here as these guys are some of the most welcoming and knowledgable (and alright nuttiest) legion fans i know
Nice to meet tcha Dennis.
Hi, Dennis --
You'll soon see Legion World's quite
Unique .
a place to waste more than just your workweek.
Welcome, Dennis , ol' buddy!
From the cute and the nutty.
('bout those unmarked $20s...err... call me, we'll speak.)
Shameless self-promotion is a Legion World tradition, as is limerick writing -- and general inanity and debauchery.
So start your own thread to discuss
Unique . (aside, I'm desperately seeking issue #2)

Welcome to LW Dennis!
I've got that JSA Classified issue. You do a nice Alan Scott. Stocic, but a little weary too. Perfectly in keeping with the character.
Looking forward to the Legion run!
cool the legion penciller is of cuban-descent just like me! With Joe Q as EIC the cuban-americans are taking over comics!
heh.
anyways, that's good to hear Dennis. Both my parents are from cuba. I live in tampa.
Lard Lad, I cant' smoke any cigars but i do play dominoes and drink my rum every weekend.
Also Bedard lives in Tampa I think so I certainly have to buy this arc.
Hiya Dennis and welcome. I'm not familiar with your previous work but I like the July LSH cover a lot. Have fun drawing the Legion.

It's okay. I spoke with Mr. Didio, and he said you can share with us.
So this guy's the new LSH creator/hunk, right?
Kidding, glad to see you on the board, Dennis!
Oh well, since you spoke to Dan I'll just spill everything!

So what DD actually said was "Maaaaaybe"

Welome aboard, Dennis! Loved your art on X-Factor and can't wait to see your run on Legion!

*Vee pulls up a chair and waits patiently for the spillage while brewing some cuban coffee*
Compadre! Bienvenido! Quieres un cafecito?
Hi Dennis! I am a fellow Cuban & New Yorker and I welcome you!
If you're hungry, come to my restaurant and I'll hook you up! Charlotte's @ 44th & B'way.
Cuban?
Does this mean more classic cars in Legion?
Bout time.
Cute?
uh..... eye of the beholder and all that.
Nutty?
Some of us have alergies.
Most dedicated?
Okay, I'll give you that one but only because you're new.
Welcome. Hope you enjoy the job.
Remember and believe: "sanity" is overrated.
So? How about a double-sized issue featuring 25 Legionnaires from three different continuities, and for your second issue...
Dennis, you plan to rework any costumes? Give Colossal Boy some cool robotech headgear???
Atleast that's my vote.

Dennis
As the actual cutest fan of them all, I welcome you to Legion World!
Poor Cobie! Obivious to the fact that his dream world was not one of the '52.'
*choke*
I thought for sure Earth-33 would be my dream world!
Cobalt, they are all your worlds and we just live in them...oh legendary one.
I think we scared Dennis away. Ah, Legion fans you gotta love them!
Lil Rhino, let me know when you're in, I'd liek to actually take advanatge of that invite if you don't mind!
As for costume, I hope to do one or two if only because it's tradition!
Scared, heck no!!! I'm just trying to get Legion 32 done and to you!!
Yeah see. You want to attract a poor starving artist, show them the food.
Where's a good website to see some of your work?
Thanks and best wishes.

I work Tues thru Sat, 5-10pm. You're welcome anytime!
Welcome Dennis! I don't work in a restaurant, but you're welcome to come over to my place for lunch - I just bought Spider-Man Kraft Mac N' Cheese and Campbell's Batman Noodle Soup!
Can't wait to see what you've got in store for us!
Just wanted to plug Dennis' work in this week's issue of Hawkgirl.
Pipin' in to say how much JSAC # 25 rawked... Alan actually looked like an older guy.
Compare this to # 26, with Matt Haley's allegedly older Sportsmaster, who still looks like he's 35.
Also, your upcoming LSH covers are magnificent!
You've got style, flair, crackle, pop and snap!
Thanks CJ!
Please do by my issue of Hawkgirl 64 is you feel like it, the supreme Walt Simsonson writes and draws his 1 of only 2 covers for the enitre series!
MLLASH, thanks man! Not to compare to anyone else's work, but it was important to me to have Alan Scott look like an older man. It's important to his character.
Thank you for your comment on the covers. I just turned in the cover to 34, just finished the art on 32 (which will be colored over the next few weeks) and just got the plot to 33 which is hi-larious!

teasing is forbidden (at least in this context). Spill it, Calero!
Hopefully it maintains the longstanding tradition of hilarious LSH issues featuring Matter-Eater Lad!

Huh?
Hilarious?
Was it Hilarious when Ethyl nearly trampled all the poor citizens?
Was it Hilarious, all those ex-wives losing parts?
Was it Hilarious, when that head thingy got stuck on Polar Boy's head?
Poignent, tragic, uplifting, but fortunately the "comedy" was saved for better venues like Darkness Saga.
Then again, that flagpole falling and bonking Calorie Queen on the head *was* pretty funny...
Cal's a good straightman.
Hey Dennis, a belated welcome to LW! I really enjoyed your JSA Class issue, and the upcoming Legion covers look awesome! Can't wait to see the interiors!
I just flipped through Dennis' Hawkgirl issue. Liked it. What I like most is his use of black/shadowing.
I can also tell he is not a "superhero" artist. He's an artist. I was more impressed with Hawkgirl's helmet then her superhero poses. I always thought the Legion should have a more sci-fi feel to them and I think Dennis will deliver there.
Hey Dennis are you going to make it to Comic-Con in San Diego? It looks like you're listed twice in Artists' Alley - "Dennis Calero" and "Denis Calero". Is this your evil doppleganger, a name-stealer, or a misprint?
http://www.comic-con.org/cci/cci_artalley.shtml I wonder if your first Legion issue will come out before or after the con?
Wow. Another creator visiting the boards (you guys had Barry Kitson before, right?)
I remember this art from X-Factor. The Quicksilver issues? I like this. A more down to Earth, surprisingly sci-fi feel to Legion. Might make me pick it up as a regular.

Yup. And now we are supporting his new book for Marvel!

I agree I like the sci-fi realistic look.
Dennis please don't drawn them as 12 year olds.
And I would love them to have some accessories here and there. I am thinking headgear from Colossal Boy. You made Hawkgirl's helmet look so cool.
Thanks Jorge! I'm tryign to draw them very age specific from 18 to 25.
If the JSAC issue is any indication, age-specific will NOT be a problem for you!
Loved yet again the latest cover preview (with Lightning Lad, Light Lass and Colossal Boy). Can't wait to see the rawkin' interiors!
Dennis, Do you have any influences? Your art reminds me of Jae Lee a bit, an artist I've always wanted to see do a take on LSH.

Wow, that was fast! Weren't they like 15-18 years last month?
Dennis did some COUNTDOWN work this week too gang.
And for all you zombie fans, he did some fine work reprinted recently in the 28 WEEKS LATER prelude trade.
18-25? I thought Invisible kid was only 14?
I do think SOME of the Legion are a bit older, to sort of reflect the fact that some have been in for years while some are older. That could be my mistake.
Thank you, yes Countdown was out last week and the collective opinion seems rather positive. and of course 28 weeks later features not only my work but some pretty cool work from other artists as well.
As far as my influences, my main one would have to be a combo of Al Williamson and Carravgio, an italian painter. I do look at jae's work and alex ross's in that I try to learn from their graphic interpretation of reality.
Caravaggio is probably my favorite painter. He's not as famous but he probably has the largest amount of impressive works I've seen.
Chiaroscuro baby!
Thats right Jorge. Do you knwo Ribera? Another favorite of mine.
Dennis, I am not really familiar with him. I think I saw his work in El Prado but I forgot most of the famous works I saw there.
Which reminds me. It doesn't flow as good but Goya's black peroid rocks.
I love Goya's work, and saw a great deal of it in Spain.
Hey Dennis will you still be in San Diego this week for the Convention? If so, hope to see you soon!
Kevin/Monkey Eater Lad
I will be! Please come by and say hello in Artist's Alley! I'll be there tomorrow but I'll be at the Marvel DC softball game so try Friday, Sat or Sunday!
Hey Dennis, talking about artists have you ever seen Paolo Uccello? Look him at on wiki if you get a chance.
He did some interesting stuff with dark and light. Really dark backgrounds that made his characters jump out and look 3-D. Though the characters are flat they seem to be floating in front of you.
Hey Dennis, it's was great to meet you in San Diego! Everyone else, this is the menacing Mekt that Dennis did me:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/8199845@N06/991768814/in/set-72157601148818529/
Seconded.
It was great talking with you at SD, Dennis. Hope you had a good time at the con!
So i got to meet Dennis at Wizard World Chicago on saturday, and it was great.
If you don't remember, i'm the french guy that bought the 2 Legion prints and you did an Atom Girl sketch for me.
A little bit of no luck, because when i was with Dennis, the big poster promotion that was behind him fell off and it made a big glass of coffee fell on the table!
Otherwise, a nice moment as Dennis is a really nice guy. Too bad he had these computers problems during his panel.
Also, I felt a little stupid when i got to meet him, as he kept asking me if i had any questions, and i kept having a blank, not really knowing what to say.
About the sketch, i like it but i must admit i was a little surprised by her face the first time i saw it, but after having a better look, i can see the detailed work you did on her expression, and i like it. I think it is giving her more character, and it goes with the way you drew her.
So thank you very much Dennis, and i hope you had a great convention.
Dennis -- you're going to be in Baltimore ? (pronounced baw'm'r by the natives)
Querl, you did nto come off dumb and I'm very happy to have met you!
Lad, I will be!
Hey! You will be in Baltimore too? That's great! See you there!
A scan!!
We gotta see it now, Querl!
Please?
I saw Querl at Baltimore and he was way cool as usual!
Guess I should wait for the book to come out before asking about a print of the cover.
Yo D! ('cause we're tight now, right?)
I picked up the recent issue of Fallen Angel, looks like some more of your work.
Just wanted to get the plug in.
Hey thanks CJ, that was fun to work on, got to do something a lil' different, even more so than legion. It's not for everyone, but what is?
LL, could you email me plase, I lost your email!
Dennis

Thanks, CJ, wasn't sure Dennis would see the acknowledgment I posted in the FA thread in GYM'LL'S...
Hi everyone, I've pooped up to take a breath and report that **SNIFF*** I've just finished the inks on my last page of legion, issue 36 page 22. Just colors on the cover, and some corrections to do and I move on! It's been wonderful and I will pop back in to see how how guys feel about 35, 36 and beyond.
Awww, it seems like you just started! Can't wait to see how the last issues turn out.
You're part of the club now Dennis, there's no real escaping us...
Hopefully we'll see your art grace these pages again in some way!
What're you working on next???
a very special xmen related projected, thats as much as i can say, but it will be very different and very exciting.
Seriously man, once a Legionnaire, always a Legionnaire.
You're welcome here anytime, it doesn't just have to be while you work on LSH related material. Heck, we'd love to see your fan input too.
IT does seem as if the visit was short. Posts were good. I appreciated the inside thoughts without the molly collying as well the fairness with which you handled our opinions.
I don't know much about X books but I am enjoying your art run with legion very much and look forward to seeing your creations again if you draw a book to my reading tastes.
