The other thread has been (will be) closed for reaching the post count.
Reboot got the last question correct and has the next question.
A member of the Amazers was repeatedly called by the name of a member of the Workforce. Name both.
Atom'X of the Amazers was mis-identified as Radion in Legends of the Legion. I believe Radion was also mistakenly mentioned as an Amazer in Starman.
Yep (I'm pretty sure there was at least one other instance, maybe more, but you got the right characters).
Away you go.
Blast-Off of the Workforce was mistakenly called an Amazer. IIRC, it was in connection to his memorial in LSH HQ.
True, but that wasn't what I asked
[that feature, in SF&O2, also got his real name wrong].
*paging Dr. Future...*

*paging Dr. Future...* I recognized that the next question was Future's. I was merely expounding on his last comment. I enjoy this thread because I love trivia, not competition. Sorry for the confusion.
Name the first (and perhaps only) Legionnaire who has ever seen Mano unmasked.
Nope, it's not the Boy of Steel.
Hmmm. I'm picturing Mano's helmut being shattered on Takron-Galtos during GDS. That would put Cham there...?
Nope. T'was Light Lass (somewhere in the early 200's of Superboy and the LSH). She surprises Mano in a dome filled with the air of his home planet and thinks, "His face! I never expected that!".
What she saw, however, remains a mystery.
Exnihil got it! Light Lass was the lucky lady (or perhaps unlucky; like you said, we never saw it).
Your question.
All righty, then... my favorite Legion question:
Bob and Gary (unbeknownst to their respective girlfriends, Betsy and Phyllis) ask two remarkably similar girls, Tina and Marie, to the movies.
Assuming the girls accept, what would be the maximum number of tickets purchased for this date?
(Extra credit if you show your work.)
Well, if all these people are individual Carggites, then they would have three bodies each and could purchase twelve tickets. I'm assuming that Tina and Marie are not two bodies of the same person. They could be "remarkably similar" because they are sisters, maybe even half-Winathian twins. I'm going to go with 12.
If they were smart, though, they would stay combined and save money for pizza after the show.
Hmmm... you're on the right track, KK, but 12 is incorrect.
I will say this: Not
all of these people are individual Carggites, as you assumed... but all of these people have, in fact, appeared in Legion stories.
This is a Legion trivia question, after all.
Hmmm... Bob would be Bob Cobb (aka Mon-El) and Marie would be Duo Damsel (if memory serves me correctly that was the name she used in the first appearance of Mordru back in the Adventure days.)
I think Gary was the name used by Ultra Boy in his final test to become a Legionnaire by discovering Superboy's secret ID.
Tina might have been the name used by Luornu when she went to invite Supergirl to join the Legion.
Betsy Norcross was the name Tas used in Smallville, so Phyllis must have been Phantom Girl's name in the aforementioned Supergirl story.
Therefore you would only need 3 tickets. One each for Mon & Jo and only one for a merged Tina & Marie.
So by my Legion math 2+2 = 3!

... on the right track, but not right, yet.
The question states:
Originally posted by Exnihil:

Hie thee back to the blackboard and check that work!
Let's see...
1 Triplicate Girl = 3
1 Duo Damsel = 2
1 Mon-El = 1
1 Ultra Boy = 1
Total (maximum) tickets needed = 7
Bingo!
For the record, all the 20th century aliases:
Bob Cobb = Mon-el in his first appearance
Gary Crane = Ditto, Ultra Boy
Marie Elkins = Duo Damsel on the run from Mordru in Smallville
Betsy Norcross = Ditto, Shadow Lass
Phyllis Groves = Phantom Girl in Lois Lane #50
Tina Glenn = Ditto Trip Girl
Also making an appearance in the Lois story (but not in this question) Shrinking Violet as Sharon Vaughn.
Nicely done, Vee, your question.
That was a fun question Exnihil, thanks! I think it was the mention of Marie & Betsy in the same sentence that gave it away for me. That's from one of my favorite all time Legion stories.
But, on to a new question...
Who was Marvel Lad?
Legionnaire Lemon, of course.
And you are correct, Chaim...of course!
(a.k.a. Mon-El, for anyone who didn't get that reference)
Before the TMK era, Leland McCauley was only once portrayed as the villain of a Legion story. What crime did he commit in that issue?
Industrial Espionage?
Not any that was depicted, to the best of my recollection.
Attempted murder--hired Charon to assassinate R.J. Brande in Baxter #17.
This one will be tough. In the 90's a Chicagoland comic book shop supplied items for the 'Grand Prize Game' on WGN's "The Bozo the Clown Show", so comics were used sometimes as props in skits. In one, Bozo held an issue of an LSH comic and discussed, on national television, a Legion character with an audience member--name the issue and the character described therein.
Hint: It was from the Baxter run.
Legion # 24 / Sensor Girl?
You were within 20 issues of the right answer.
Hint: The character was not a Legionnaire.
issue #43
Manhunter Laurel Kent
I'll go a couple of issues earlier and say #41 - Starfinger?
Hint: No active Legionnaires appeared in the actual story.
Wow, that narrows it down. It has to be...Legion # 39? Gigi Cusimano?
Hint: SHE did not appear on the cover.
OK, so it's a non-cover-appearing female character, featured in a story which contains no active Legionnaires, within 20 issues of v.3 #24?
By process of elimination it's got to be Comet Queen, in the second story of #11, which only features Bouncing Boy and Superboy, neither of whom were on active duty.
Do I win a no-prize?
If you are correct, you win the right to ask the next question.
You are correct Exnihil!! Watching Bozo descibe how Comet Queen could fly was a bizarre experience. You have the next question...
OK next question:
Which Legionnaire's background contains no fewer that four distinct references to a 1960's sitcom?
Not that I'm aware of (If I'm wrong, just let me know and cite the four things and where they're from.)
The Legionnaire I'm thinking of literally has four details of his or her life intentionally pulled from a real-life sitcom (although why this is the case I haven't the foggiest.)
There was the Origins miniseries which for the Ultra Boy story had Gilligan's Island references.
I'll guess Monstress.
I checked out that "Legends of the Legion" story and, although, it's not the one I was thinking of, it fits the parameters of the question as I asked it, with no fewer than 7 distinct visual character references to "Gilligan's Island."
My original intention was the Who's Who entry for Kent Shakespeare, which established his first name as "Richard", his parents as "Rob" and "Laura", and his place of birth as "New Rochelle", all references to "The Dick Van Dyke" show. The source was later confirmed in a letter column, though why the homage was written at all was never revealed.
Anyway, Jo Nah-Gilligan's Island works, so... question to Chaim.
Interesting - never having watched the Dick van Dyke Show, I never would have guessed that.
New question: In the Adult Legion story, how many children did Light Lass and Timber Wolf have, and what were their names?
They had twin boys, I think. Names???? Brin, Jr. & Garth?
Hmm...not 100% correct. I'll wait for more answers before even saying what of the above is right or not.
The twins Brin & Bran, and their older sister Loni Londo. (Gasp! Another "LL"! How ironic, choke!)
Them's the little wolf cubs, Ex (in that alternate future) - you're next.
In LSH v.4 #2, Jo Nah is attacked by two incredibly courteous androids.
To whom are these androids a reference?
Hint: This is likely the earliest "comic" reference ever made in a Legion story.
Mac & Tosh, the gopher twins from the Warner Brothers cartoons?
You're on the right path, but you exited the timestream a little too soon.
Mac and Tosh are, themselves, also a reference to this even earlier source.
Eeeeeeeeeeven further back...
A big clue might be the actual names of the android assassins in the issue (based on the original source reference).
The Alphonse and Gaston comic strip?
Korbal nails it.
The two androids, named "Algronsk and Kaston," are a clear pastiche of the earlier characters, "Alphonse and Gaston," first drawn by Frederick Burr Opper in 1901.
Take it away, Korbal.
A Gold Medal winning Olympian and a Legion character share a common name--what is it?
No guesses? O.K. for those who follow esoteric sport stories--
Hint: It was humorously reported recently that a craven individual fraudulently claimed this name for themself.
Jacques Foccart?
(if I'm right anyone else can ask a new question as I'm not around enough to follow up)
Huh--thought the first clue would have been a dead giveaway. Anyway...
Hint: To date, the character has only appeared once in a tale from the Adventure era.
Hint: The athlete played professionally in New Jersey.
Oh, all right.
Yes, I'm as a big a geek as you!
Jeff Turner, late of the NJ Nets, took home the gold in 1984, then retired from basketball and took up trapping on the planet Vorn, where he met (or rather
will meet) the Legion 1,000 or so years later. (That Rejuvium does wonders for the complexion).
Correct!
As for the first Hint: It was humorously reported recently that a craven individual fraudulently claimed this name for themself.
--from wikipedia:
On June 4, 2008, the Associated Press reported that Ronnie Craven of Somerville, Massachusetts, had been posing as (Jeff) Turner and using the identity to facilitate sexual encounters with women he met in online chat rooms.
Doesn't anybody watch ESPN anymore?
The floor is yours, Ex.
I just learned this one a couple days ago:
What is a near-homophonic connection between Microsoft Excel 2000... and a three-boot Legionnaire?
Microsoft Excel 2000 was developed in a city full of giants.
I read that.
Somewhere.
I might have been drunk at the time.
Believe it or not... no.
Although, you are correct in thinking it has something to do with the developers. For the second portion of the question, it might help to know that the Legionnaire in question is not one of the "main" Legionnaires, but one of those extra thousands who were hanging around in Waid's run.
Microsoft was the Nu Thena (software vendor)for Excel 2000?
Sounds like "Theena."
You know, although that's not the answer I was thinking of, given what the actual answer is, yours is a distinct possibility, as well, so... I'll give it to you.
The answer I was thinking of was an Easter Egg hidden in Excel 2000 where, if you publish a speadsheet to a web page, then navigate to a certain cell, you get access to a "Pole Position"-like game called "Dev Hunter"... an extremely likely name source for Superboy look-alike 3-boot Legionnaire, "Dav Huntr".
Question to KK.
Who was the first person to try to kill Garridan Ranzz?
Well, in his first appearance, Validus was awaiting execution on Bismari presumably, after Grimbor captured him. So perhaps Grimbor tried to kill him, but since he couldn't, settled on delivering him to the UP alive.
Not what I was looking for.
My memory of the 5YL stuff is (thankfully) fuzzy, so I'll guess...Roxxas?
The Sun-Eater sure tried to take out Validus, however since it was mindless, it could be said that its master, the renegade Controller could be ultimately culpable.
What I had in mind was earlier from Garridan's POV.
Hmmm. Do you mean that Khundian guy that a pregnant Saturn Girl faced off against during the Great Darkness Saga?
Hm, close enough. Pregnant Saturn Girl faced off against Tyr during the War against the LSV. She then went into labor and Darkseid fulfilled his Curse by stealing the baby from the womb. Tyr saw that Imra was prenant, and was still willing to kill her and her unborn children.
Go, Quis.
In Superboy starring The Legion of Superheroes #212 "Last Fight for a Legionnaire" The Legion defeat the Legion of Super Rejects by switching foes and using teamwork. However, one Reject was defeated by his/her counterpart Legionnaire. Name the Legionaire, the Reject, and the manner of defeat.
The Legionnaires in the story were Chameleon Boy, Cosmic Boy, Matter-eater Lad, Phantom Girl, Saturn Girl, & Shrinking Violet.
The Rejects were Calorie Queen, Chameleon Kid, Esper Lass, Magno Lad, Micro Lad, & Phantom Lad
I know I read that issue at some point, but I don't recall the specs. I'm guessing only Tinya could handle Phantom Lad.
Tenz chomped down a flagpole on CQ and tied her up in the banner.
Korbal is correct.
Shrinking Violet grew up and KOed Phantom Lad. Phantom Girl snuck up behind Micro Lad. Saturn Girl discover what Chameleon Kid was disguised as (and Matter-Eater Lad threatened to take a bite out of him.) Cosmic Boy magnetized the iron in Esper Lass' blood and sent her spinning and unable to concentrate. Magno Lad was going to hurl a steel sculpture at Cosmic Boy, but that turned out to be Chameleon Boy, who slugged Magno Lad.
Who was "the Dark Elvar," and where did he make his sole appearance?
Hint: It was in a feature written by Mark Waid and illustrated by Steve Dillon.
It was the "revitalized" Wanderer Elvo, brought back to life by a Controller in the "Wanderers" series. (If you're looking for a specific issue reference, though, I dunno - I never read this series)
Right direction, but not quite the whole answer.
It been six days since the question was posted with only one guess, so an new question seems to be in order, but first the answer:
In 1988, in a CBS freebie entitled DC FOCUS, Mark Waid wrote a text feature outlining the history (both past and future) of the Wanderers. Scripter Doug Moench re-imagined the characters and Steve Dillon provided their new looks. Among the new Wanderers was the Dark Elvar--a sunglass-wearing pale elf, with a red crewcut, armed with a light saber. However, when the series actually debuted, Dillon was replaced without explanation by the team of Hoover/Campenella. All the Wanderers differed signicantly from the previously published Dillon designs, and their version of Elvo was simply named Elvar.
New Question: Why is Jan Arrah not welcome on Venus?
Venus had outlawed transmutation as EVIL!
That's why Cosmic King had gotten the boot from his home planet.
OK, this might be an easy one. Sticking with the Wanderers:
In the years following their heroic careers, at least one of the Wanderers found work as a celebrity spokesperson. Two-part question: Which member, and what product did he or she endorse?
Quantum Queen, and it was a perfume.
Hmmm... I think I might be outclassed in the trivia dept. Each time I think I've got a sole occurence of a phenomena, someone else provides an additional example that fits, as well.
I had been thinking about the early v.4 example of Dartalon appearing in a Silverale commercial (...It's for the famous and free, it's for you and me...), but didn't know about QQ's perfume.
In any case, right on, question to Chaim.
Actually, you're more right - the example I had was from during their heroic careers. Now that you mention Dartalon's appearance (during the v4 era), I realize my mistake.
In any case, though:
Which Legionnaire was Brutus in a prior life?
Is this Karate Kid from the Dr. Mayavale story?
That's who I was thinking of, yes.
Thanks for making me dredge up the memory of that issue, Chaim...
Ok, here we go...
Which Legionnaire's parents were the first Legion parents to be kidnapped?
In-story, or chronologically? Chronologically, I guess Chameleon Boy's father was kidnapped in the 20th century when he was imprisoned on Colu.
In story order, assuming pre-Legion Superboy/Supergirl stories are not included here, I think the answer must be Colossal Boy's, by Tarik the Mute.
Colossal Boy is the answer I was going for Chaim. Take it, sir...
Not counting Lex Luthor, who is the first (in publication time) villain that the Legion fought who they eventually had subsequent battle(s) against?
don't 'spose Kal himself counts? (Prisoner of the Super-Heroes 1st, v.3 #37 among others later)
No, Kal doesn't count. And the Time Trapper first appeared (vis a vis the Legion - he had a prior appearance in Wonder Woman I think?) in ADV # 317, which is later than the villain I'd been thinking of.
Universo didn't appear until ADV # 349.
Actually, if you're talking publication order, wouldn't it be a trio of villains? Lightning Lord, Saturn Queen, And Cosmic King first appeared in Superman 147 (8/61) and, of course, the Legion faced them again several times.
Admittedly, it was an "Adult Legion" story, but, nevertheless, the earliest example of a recurrent Legion villain.
Roxxas is who I was thinking of. The Adult LSV story has to be questioned as to whether later-published battles against them were before or after, given Saturn Queen's rehabilitation in that issue.
Yours, Kent.
Name every Legionnaire who has been a planetary ruler of some sort.
Jeckie & Val-- Queen and Consort of Orando
Nura Nal-- High Seer of Naltor
Tyroc and Jacques--Presidents of Earth
Brainy- Leader of Colu
Lournu Durgo--Sole template for inhabitants of Carggg
Debatable
Tenzil--Senator (and foreshadowed president)of Bismoll
Tasmia--Champion of Talok VIII
Garth and Imra--Owners of Talus
Valor--unofficial consort to Glorith of Baaldor
those are all the definites I was thinking of, but there were a couple of other 'debatables' (like Chuck and Lu on Xolnar).
Hint: Employed by the United Planets.
Hint: Character created by Doug Moench.
It's been a week, time for the answer and a new question.
Contact (Given name Arhae--an attractive female with green hair and pale white skin) was the official United Planets Liaison to the Wanderers. She appeared in the latter half of their series.
New Question: Name three things in common that the homewords of Triplicate Girl and Timber Wolf share.
Huh...forgot about her. OK, as for your new question:
1) Spelling of name changed from pre-TMK to post-TMK
2) The Legion had adventures on both during the TMK era
3) The spelling of both contains consecutive letters
Correct, though you did miss the most obvious one--they both boast triple suns. Your turn.
Didn't remember that detail. OK, here goes:
Aside from being Mysa/the White Witch, what alias was the Hag known by?
In what way does Celeste McCauley owe a pseudonymic debt to Isaac Hayes?
his Rockford Files character Gandolph Fitch was nick-named Rockfish.
I'll give it to you, Kent. All the pieces are there, but in the wrong order.
True, Hayes was Gandolph Fitch, but "Rockfish" was not
his nickname but, rather, the nickname he gave to Jim Rockford. Celeste, by contrast, took "Rockfish" as her assumed name, but people would mistakenly call her "Rockford".
Anyway, close enough for horseshoes, hand grenades, and Legion trivia.
What Dave Cockrum story foreshadowed the death of a Legionnaire, and how?
The introduction of Molecule Master in Superboy # 201, who was said to have killed Reflecto during the 5-year gap?
didn't think of that one.
But since MM only "killed" the Jo/Kal Reflecto, and was never shown to have killed the Bierbaum Reflecto, I'd have to say No.
plus there's a more clear-cut answer out there.
#207 Has Jeckie using fear to turn Nemesis Kid into a cowering mess, very much as she will later do when she executes him years later.
I'm pretty sure that Cockrum was gone by #207; that was Grell by then.
Hint: The member-to-die in question was technically not an active member at the time this story appeared, but was still appearing semi-regularly anyway.
Superboy, then? No idea, though, what in a Cockrum issue foreshadowed his death.
Chaim, I can't think of who he means either. Been wracking my brain too. Gotta be either Superboy or Supergirl I guess?
Superboy #190 "Murder the Leader" Mon-El tricks Validus into scragging Tharok. Several components will be taken from his robot half to display in the trophy room. Eventually, these parts will transform into a beacon that summons Validus in #203 (illustrated by Grell) in which Lyle bravely mets his end by destroying the device.
good guesses... not what I'm looking for.
And it's hard to give clues without giving it away entirely.
Hint: Cockrum was teamed with a writer whose initials were not CB or ENB.
Superboy #201 "The Silent Death" (Dream Girl has a vision of Karate Kid's demise, much as she will have years later in the LSH/LSV War) could also fit, but the hint seems to indicate his Legion #300 sequence...
Korbal's answer is not quite what I am looking for, but on several levels is so close that it is hard to comment on.
It is possible for someone to offer a "better" answer, building upon his/her (sorry I don't know which and I hate to assume) last post...
...but if no one offers a better guess by, say, Thursday evening, I'll give it over to Korbal.
no attempts, then.
It's Korbal's Q.
What I was looking for was Cockrum's story form LSH 300, in which we see a future of the 70s Legion. In one panel, one Legionniare is speaking, and we see on the wall behind him several portraits. From left to right, we see portraits of those already fallen in "real" continuity of the time on one side of the speaker, followed by Tasmia (issue #300's red herring for being the next corpse) and then Val after her.
OK. The Fatal Five once plotted to transform the planet Mordan (and all its inhabitants) into energite, the most valuable substance in the universe--but what physical property makes it so?
Hint: Was revealed in a Smallvile (sic) classroom...
It can cure disease?
Supergirl's father had two brothers. Name them.
Jor-El and my other brother Jor-El!
Cru-El was a cousin, if I recall right, and Van-Zee was a cousin via a female relation.
Jor-El and... Nim-El?
Nim-El waits by the mailbox every Valentine's Day, hoping this year will be different. But no Valentine ever comes...
At least Kent Shakespeare remembers him.
It's your question.
who was the first JSA member to appear in a Legion story (not counting the JLA/JSA x-over in the 70s)?
Flash?
not that I'm aware of. The earliest I recall him is in the Reboot era.
To the best of my recollection, DR. Fate it was. Giffen had a tendancy to sneak various characters into the backgrounds (even Garfield, once), and we see Dr. Fate at the magic museum in the Great Darkness Saga.
Go ahead, AFOBbie!
Sorry it took so long to post...
In an Action backup story, one of the female Legionnaires was revealed to be an imposter. Mon-el had "neglected to take the serum which gives me temporary immunity to my weaknesses, lead and ____________________."
1. What was this other supposed treatment for?
2. Who was the male villain du jour?
red sun energy?
Red sun energy, and the villain was named Sunburst.
KK got the first part, but CMK got both ,so, Chaim, you're up!
It was Action #379, Aug 1969. "Shadow Lass" is found to be an imposter when her powers don't weaken in a bright sunlight.
Incidentally, is that a link in your signature? It doesn't seem to work.
Guess he took the page down.
In the Bloodlines Annual which regrettably introduced the character "Jamm", Jacques Foccart retrieves Timber Wolf from the twentieth century by accidentally triggering a theoretical time-retrieval program that Brainiac 5 had been working on. Who else did Brainy have a program to attempt to retrieve?
You're gonna make me dig this out, aren't you, Chaim? *sigh* Don't know if I can hack that...
You can probably figure it out without looking it up if you really try...
I am still putting off looking this up. Was it T-Wolf?
Ok, it was Lar Gand.
Gimme a little time, and I'll have a new question.
OK, here we go...
Whom did Supergirl once wrap up in her cape to save said person from an exploding ship, and what was initially wrong with the plan?
Brainiac Five?
Supergirl was an android who wasn't able to survive the blast herself. Naturally, the real Supergirl zipped in at the exact right moment.
deus ex machina!
That's it, KK. You're up!
Iris West knows a cub reporter with an allergy to what?
Hmmmm, can you be a little more specific...?
No. I am pretty sure you are talking about Devlin O'Ryan on Winath, but I don't remember what issue it is in. grrr...now how can I look it up without my 2-yr-old pulling comics from my longboxes...?
Ok, IIRC, Devlin was allergic to Winthian Rose-Honey Bees. You got all the pertenant info, plus I don't want to search thru my collection, either.
Go, Lance's realm.
(Hm. I'll bet rose-honey is good on daisy-toast...)
Ok, here we go...
In the Mask Man story in Adventue 310, how did Mask Man kill Sun Boy?
He didn't, as far as we know. Sun Boy is seen with Superboy, Mon-El, Lightning Lass, Saturn Girl, Brainy, & Lyle in one panel. Soon later, Mask Man kills Staurn Girl and Brainy, even commenting that he killed "you two." In the next panel, Super tells Mon-El that only they, Lightning Lass, and Invisible Kid are still alive (even though he was wrong about Lyle). Sun Boy was forgotten. He appears alive in a group shot in the last panel.
Yup. The writer completely forgot about Sun Boy. You're up again, KK. (By the way, did you look that one up, or did you know it?)
I happened to have "Showcase presents the Legion of Super-Heroes #1" near my desk. It always bothered me when the writer, artist, and editor all misplaced characters.
In the "All New Collector's Edition of the Legion of Super-Heroes" (1978) lightning Lad decided to kill Imra Ranzz. Why, and where were they at the time?
There were marooned on the Moon and Garth wanted to spare them the lingering death of suffocation.
Korbal- Correct! The yellow-skinned aliens had a domed lunar city city named, oddly, New Cathay ("New China").
Given your avatar, Korbal, I should have known that you would get this one!
Fingerprinting is an important contemporary tool in crime fighting--what Legion case was solved by this technique?
Hint:Actually it was a lack of said fingerprints wich led Brainy to the true culprit.
Ohhh...now I think I know. You are talking about when the Legion thought Timber Wolf was a criminal - even though it was the android Karth Arn who was the bad guy.
Correct. The Legion learned that androids do not have fingerprints to leave behind. Your turn LR.
OK, and just call me Lance.
Who's allergy saved his life?
Devlin's allergy to the bees (mentioned recently) might have saved him from returning to the Winath plantation and encountering Roxxas.
ummm...not what I was looking for, CMK.
I understand why no one has answered this question - this is taken from an utterly forgettable story.
I remember Bouncing Boy sneezing his way to victory over the Hunter, but I think that was a cold, not an allergy.
OK, time for a hint...this was a short story, and the other 2 Legionnaires featured were Brainiac 5 and Matter-Eater Lad.
I think I know the story you're talking about - it's the one where Brainy goes to get Matter-Eater Lad from the asylum, and one of the doctors went bad, right? Was Sun Boy the other Legionnaire in that story?
Actually, it was Element Lad. His intense Trommian allergy to pollen woke him up so he could save them from a contracting force field. The floor is open to anyone to ask a question.
I'll continue this here:
Who really won the Legion leader election when Wildfire became leader, and why did he or she not take that post?
Superboy "won", receiving the most votes, even though he wasn't eligible. The Leader must be a permanent resident of the 30th Century. Clark, of course, was not.
IIRC, Superboy planned to take Wildfgire's place in one of his containment suits, but was foiled. I don't remember how or by whom.
(This was one of the first comic books I ever bought!)
:fanboy:
(There should be a graemlin for "Fan Boy".)
Correct! Your question, KK.
Jacques Foccart hails from what city?
:fanboy:
CMK-Not according to my source, but close.
Abidjan may have been absorbed by this "New City", just as muct of the Amercan North Atlantic coast was absorbed by Metropolis by the 30th Century.
Originally posted by KryptonKid:

I just re-read some of the Levitz era, and his hometown/city is indeed referred to as Abidjan.
According to LSH #57, written by Levitz, its Angi, "one of the so-called 'New Cities' of Africa." I assume this covers all or most of Cote d'Ivoire.
Next question goes to CMK, Kent, or whomever.
Maybe his family moved there later.
Who was the first Legionnaire to not have a code-name indicating youth (i.e., Boy, Girl, Lad, Lass, Kid)?
Brainiac 5 is correct. Not the most difficult question in the world, but I figured maybe someone would instinctively think of Timber Wolf or Shrinking Violet (or Mon-El!) before Braint.
Your turn, AFOB.
Silly me. I realized I was wrong later.
What were the powers that Pre-boot Wildfire (as ERG-1) demonstrated that got him rejected for membership?
Let's see, going from memory...
He could expand and shrink in size, he could control chemical reactions, he could phase through solid matter. That's what I can remember. Could he fly too?
Yes, that's 5. I count 2 more. Anyone?
Was X-Ray vision one of them?
And the other elemental transmutation? I'm just guessing here
It was 'vision and ___________equal to Superboy's.'
One more to go.
Well, I'm just throwing them out now. Hearing? I assume it wasn't super-breath!
It was hearing! You're up!
OK, two part question here...
1. I think someone else in this thread already posed a question about the "Mask Man" story where everyone in the Legion was killed by a descendant of Mxyzptlk. They mentioned that Sun Boy's death was never shown "on screen". However, Sun Boy isn't the only character to suffer from this sort of neglect in that story.
What other active Legionnaire was apparently killed in that story, but his or her death was never shown or explained?
2. Some of the Legionnaires who weren't central to the story were killed off when an asteroid materialized in front of their spaceship. The dialogue indicates that "Triplicate Girl, Element Lad, Phantom Girl...they and the others in it are dead!" Now assuming that there were only active Legionnaires on that ship, who can we deduce were they referring to by "the others in it"?
1. Bouncing Boy & Lightning Lass
2. Matter-Eater Lad & Star Boy
Star Boy is only seen on the splash page, and Tenzil isn't seen at all, but if there were "others" (plural) it would have to be them. Ayla and Chuck were seen alive later, but the story never mentioned how they died. I suppose we can take Mask Man's word for how Lyle died...(Why would a swell guy like him lie?)
Lightning Lad, at this point, was still on Special Rigor Mortis Detatched-Duty, I believe.
Well, KryptonKid, you are mostly right, with one small error. In the first part of my question, I was only looking for the name of one legionnaire, and that was Bouncing Boy. Ayla's death is explained, just before Invisible Kid. She was turned to stone, apparently.
But you had so much of it correct that I think you should go ahead and take it.
What was the real name of the person who took on the names Landslide, Smasher, and the Cyclone?
One person became all those? Sounds like the old dial "H" for hero's, but i don't recall it being anything to do with the Legion.
I'd say Jimmy Olsen?
Dial H for Hero? Didn't the Legion crossover with the Dial way back in Superboy #50? Not to mention Lori Morning?
Not remembering the story of Superboy #50, I'll guess Lori Morning.
Not Jimmy ("Mr. Action") or Lori (Glorith x "hello, Kitty"), but you are both on the right track.
Hint: Think "V", not "H".
Hint #2: Superboy was one of the Legionnaires in the story.
The Variant?...amigo, ya got me. I officially give on this one.
Hint #3: Lex Luthor was also in this story. The Legionnaires were
Nylor Truggs, it was Krypto who literally "took a bite out of crime"....
"Notorious Nylor's nuptials to Nura Nal near Naltor naturally nurtured negative news."
That was my favorite tongue twister growing up.
Nylor dialed "V" for Villian in The New Adventures of Superboy #50 (Feb84).
Consequently, Korbal can continue questioning.
Which Legionnaire was the first (and only?) member to hold the official post of Legion Treasurer?
Anyone but Ultra Boy!
Cham?
Element Lad? (Umm...sure we still have gold in the treasury. Just wait, I'll get you some...)
I'm guessing this is from a story where someone was kicking people out of the Legion for violating issues of the Legion code. So that would mean either the issue where Saturn Girl becomes leader and Lightning Lad dies, or maybe the one with Alaktor (?) where he kicks everyone out and replaces them with the LSV. Both of those are pretty early...
So at a wild guess I'm going to go for Sun Boy.
Nope.
Hint: Desperately seeking data to help a family member, this Legionnaire decried the fact that the Legion still used paper in its filing systems...
Yup, Gim's sole (depicted) act as Treasurer was to open the safe and surrender a bar of Spectrium worth $200,000, to Saturn Girl, who promptly deposited it into a handy Medallion-Making Machine to create her power-duplicating pendants, in ADVENTURE #304. You're turn, KK.
OK, KK. I'll try to post tomorrow.
FYL, who was the last villian Brin Londo faced before becoming Furball?
Was it Dr. Regulus during the "Black Dawn" story?
Originally posted by Xben:
Was it Dr. Regulus during the "Black Dawn" story?
Correct. I was thinking that the off-panel "Black Dawn" conflict was with Starfinger, but it was Regulus. Your question, Xben.
OK, here is a question that is based entirely on memory, so hopefully I have it right.
In the infamous Dr. Mayavale story which was in, I think, LSH #268 (sigh, will there ever be a Legion title that goes up to #268 again?), who was featured on the cover (as part of a roll call) but wasn't in the story? And which who was in the story but missing from the cover roll-call?
I have that issue, one of the Ditko ones i think, but i can't recall off hand.
I think Element Lad was mistakenly depicted on the cover. As for the second question...Shadow Lass?
In roll call, but not in story-Ultra Boy.
In story, but not roll call-Shrinking Violet.
Correct!
I was a new reader of the LSH at the time, and one of the few stories I had read up to that point was the "Curse of the Blood Crystals" or whatever it was called from the SLSH days. That story included Ultra Boy, so I was pretty disappointed when he wasn't in the story in 268. They never even mentioned Shrinking Violet's name or (I think) showed her using her powers, so I had no idea who she was. Ah, those were the days, when the Legion was a vast unknown to me full of amazing things to be disocovered. So many characters, so many origins, so many powers! For me as a young comic reader, not off-putting at all, only inviting.
In Superboy/LSH, in a back-up story, Chameleon Boy masquerades as a gem to catch criminals.
1) What color(s) was the gem and
2) Who was the exotic looking, pink-skinned girl in the story?
ROYGBIV (rainbow)?
Jeryl, she also had a Who's Who in the Legion, entry making a her a diplomat and perhaps a TMK "text" reference.
1) No, but it's actually a trick question.
2) Yes, Ambassador Jeryl.
Hint: What are jewels kept in?
Yes, he was disguised as the jewel case.
And of course, Ambassador Jeryl.
Your turn, Kid.
OK, this is from memory, which is always risky.
During the mission in which Chemical King died, two Legionnaires went under cover to infiltrate the Australian government. Neither of these two are normally associated with the Espionage Squad. How are these Legionnaires identified on the Legion's Mission Monitor Board?
Light Lass and Shadow Lass.
Timber Wolf and Colossal Boy.
IIRC, T-Wolf & Gim infiltrated the Australian Army. Light Lass and Shadow Lass is what I was looking for.
Its yours, CMK!
Which four Legionnaires became fused together as a result of Imskian dragon-hunting?
Lightning Lad
Saturn Girl
Colossal Boy
Shrinking Violet
Together they were the "Composite Legionnaire" hunted by Dawnstar's cousin, Bounty.
That was them, from Superboy & the LSH # 234.
In the "Glorithverse revision" of the Legion's mission to Australia to prevent World War VII, who took the place of the then non-existent Superboy?
Hmmm. I don't remember seeing this. Wild guess: Tyroc.
Valor would be the easy guess here, so I'll pick him.
Nope.
Hint: This Legionnaire did not appear in SLSH #228, but in the Chemical King bio tale published for SECRET ORIGINS...
Xben is correct--it was kind of strange to have Brainy of all characters narrate "The Unique Properties of Condo Arlik."
OK, in the "Absolute Power" arc of Superman / Batman, there are seven members of the adult Legion of Super-Heroes present at the end of the story. Who can name the them all? (or failing that, name more of them than anyone else?)
Founders, Dreamy, Brainy, Tenzil, and Violet?
Not correct, but close. Anyone else want to take a stab at it?
All of Korbal's choices are correct, with the exception of Violet, who should actually be Cham.
I'll pass the next question back to Korbal, if that's OK, Xben, as he got the majority of the answer.
Ok, then. What Legion foe once operated under an alias which was merely their first name added with the initial letter of their last name?
Dr. Larsh (Lars Hanscomb aka Starfinger)?
Correct, man that Levitz could be subtle. You're up, KS.
What fictional planet, known to Legion-era people, is apparently the namesake of a 1980s pop music group?
The planet Wham, of course!
Three-eyed SaMatthew has it, easily enough.
Who was the last Legionnaire to join the team before the Levitz era ended?
Originally posted by Matthew E:

If I recall correctly, it should be Mentalla but she got killed so therefore it's Sensor Girl, she was the last one based on Saturn Girl's recommendation.
Since Atmos was turned down, it seems like it would have to be one of the group of five, unless you are including someone who rejoined during Magic War.
Quislet?
Not Polar Boy. Kent is close, but as best I can tell, nobody rejoined during the Magic Wars.
Actually, Brainy did rejoin during the MW and perhaps Thom and Dreamy too?
Well, during Magic War, I think that a bunch of characters rejoined the team, including Brainy, Dream Girl, Blok and a fourth character. I can't recall who. Or at least it was implied that they were rejoining.
But perhaps the question is referring to Saturn Girl, who rejoined at the end of the Universo Project?
Saturn Girl is correct.
A few characters did show up and help during the Magic Wars, including Brainy and the White Witch, but I didn't see anything to indicate that they actually rejoined.
Go ahead.
What were the first things that Star Boy is seen using his "mass increasing" powers on?
Flying freshly hatched alien reptiles?
That is as effective of a description as any I could imagine. Good job.
Cham has disguised himself as many of his fellow Legion members over the years, but which Legionnaire was the first to impersonate Cham?
Hint: The Legionnaire in question employed neither make-up nor technology to accomplish the feat...
I don't know who it was, but were they impersonating Cham impersonating them?
I guess the other possibility was that it was their powers that allowed them to do this. If so, than I guess it would have to be Projectra (or one of her iterations) or Chameleon Girl (from the latest Johnsboot.)
But going with the first theory listed above, I'm going to wildly guess it was Colossal Boy.
Is Proty considered a Legionnaire?
Xben--your first theory is correct, however, your guess is not.
stephbarton--nope.
Hint: Years later, when Cham "returned the favor" and took the form of this same Legionnaire, he was instantly physically assaulted for his trouble...
Hint: The Legionnaire's "portrayal" of Cham was staged to deceive an audience of only one...
Final Hint: The incident occured in the tale referenced in the answer to the previous question...
Was it Dream Girl? Am I allowed to guess again?
Sure, X.
To get the final Legionnaire on her hit list, Dream Girl convinces Matter-Eater Lad that she was really Reep by writing, then drawing a line through "Cham" in an official spaceport logbook. Shortly thereafter, a suspicious Tenzil calls out "Chameleon Boy" which Nura appears to answer to, thereby causing him to accuse her of being Cham. The real Cham is easily contacted, and ME Lad is suspended from the Legion for falsely accusing a fellow Legionnaire, completing Nura's master plan for sparing several Legionnaires from a deadly vision. Years later, in the wake of the Vi/Yera switcheroo, Cham teases Star Boy with Nura's face, and is promptly given a black eye by Thom in response. Your turn Xben.
I've asked this question before, but I don't remember if I've ever done it in this forum...
Not including adult Legion stories, when was the first time that we ever saw a LSH member who was born in the future fighting actual villains who were also from the future, and actually defeating them in the future (ie, not the 20th century)?
I'll guess Bouncing Boy's defeat of an electrical villain in "The Secret Origin of Bouncing Boy!"
Hmm... come to think of it, however, BB was not actually a Legion member yet in that story, and Sun Boy had actually been expelled in the next issue when he defeated Kranyak.
It is not Bouncing Boy. Hint: even if Bouncing Boy had been a Legion member in the story mentioned above, he would still not be the answer.
Since it was Saturn Girl who assembled the Legion of Super-Pets, does she (born in the future) get credit for defeating, in the Legion's time-period, the Brain-Globes of Rambat?
Also, in the first Star Boy story, Star Boy recruits Superboy to help him defeat a villain who escaped into some copper pipes, but IIRC, I think that Star Boy himself nabbed that villain's accomplice.
Well, with Saturn Girl it depends on your point of view I guess, but I wasn't thinking of her. The situation I had in mind involved a full fledged LSH member actually using his or her powers to directly stop / defeat / capture some bad guys. Another hint is that the bad guys aren't really ever shown or developed beyond one this one panel appearance, but they are clearly bad guys.
As for Star Boy, he captures that crook off-screen and in the 20th century, which contradicts the conditions of the question.
Also, the Brain Globes of Rambat were defeated in the 20th century, not in the future.
Really? I could swear Saturn Girl brought the Super-Pets to the future to fight the Brain Globes, and that Star Boy brought Superboy to the future to capture the crooks. But I haven't looked at the Archives in quite a while.
Kranyak, from ADV 302?
In the Star Boy story the villain Thom captures is in the 20th century but the one Clark captures in the 30th.
Could it be Colossal Boy as in Adventure 301 here is a panel showing him growing to battle a giant on the planet Grykk?
Tinya busting into a gang's hide-out in ADV #300?
I'll go with the founders disabling the spaceship of the nameless crooks on the splash page of Adv. #247.
I hadn't thought of the splash page of #247, which is an interesting thought, since I didn't specify it had to actually be in a story.
Tinya' busting into the gang's hideout was in #301, one panel after the Colossal Boy panel that stuorstew references above.
I had actually not noticed either the Colossal Boy or the Tinya panel when I asked the question. I guess you could technically argue that we don't actually see either of them defeating their foe in the panel mentioned, but it's all pretty close and debatable.
My answer was Lightning Lad disabling a ship with crooks in it later on in #301.
I think both stuorstew and Eryk Davis Ester gave answers that could be considered valid, so I'll hand it over to which ever of them wants to take it.
Yay! I got one right (sort of!)
However as Erik Davis Ester's issue was earlier than mine I am happy to stand aside and let him take the next go.
I'm actually going to re-ask Xben's question, but with a few more stipulations thrown in:
Not including adult Legion stories, when was the first time that we ever saw an active duty LSH member who was born in the future fighting an actual named villain or villains who were also from the future, and actually defeating them in the future.
I'll actually have to look up the answer myself, but I'm curious as to what it is (though I have a suspiscion).
I don't know the answer, but after all the mix-ups, I had the same question in my mind.
I was thinking Sun Boy, but he wasn't an active member at the time. (Don't remember the crooks name, anyway.)
I guess that would have to be Dr. Landro and Meglaro in ADV # 303, wouldn't it?
Well, I suppose it depends on who you give credit to for the "defeat" of Landro and Meglaro. They're actually captured by Superboy (who is not from the future), though it's Brainy's ruse that leads to their capture, and Brainy is certainly credited with it at the end of the story.
If I'd specified "captured" rather than "defeated", the correct answer would, I beleive, be Roxxas, who was my original hunch.
Go ahead and take it, cmk.
Landro and Meglaro made another appearance that chronologcally precedes their capture in Adventure Comics # 303. Who was the hero that foiled their plans on that occasion?
Wild guess - Star Boy in the spotlight story in LSH #306
Remember that story, always thought it showed the Bierbaums did shoddy research as Meglaro/Landro allied together at that point in time clearly made no sense continuity-wise. Always felt Molock, Tharok, Magpie, or even Benn Pares would have fit better...
Really? What was said about them that would make us think they had not been together for a while?
That said, you've got the writers correct - but who was the hero?
The tale from Secret Origins #42 ends with both villlains, Meglaro and Landro, taken into custody by the Science Police. Yet, "later" in Adventure #303, it is depicted that Meglaro, after attempting to conquer the Earth by himself, has been in a prolonged suspended state of sleep, while the esteemed Doctor Landro is shown as the top specialist in his field, (that of fourth-dimensional surgery) with a well-established thriving practice. Had the Bierbaums revised their plot slightly so that Tinya covertly caused Meglaro's comotose condition, thwarting his attack, and have a craven Landro secretly escape capture with his anonymity intact, their story could have fit perfectly within then-current Legion continuity. Unfortunately, they failed to make the effort and instead hatched a rotten Easter egg...
Hmm, I'll have to have another look - I thought Tinya just got the spy ring busted, but I had not recalled that the two of them got captured.
That said - your question.
In his first appearance as Lightning Boy, Garth used his powers in an unusual manner--when was the next time he was depicted employing this atypical aspect of his abilities?
I know he clapped to get the lightning to happen in that first story. Darned if I can remember when it happened a second time, though.
More to the point of what he actually did with the lightning flashes rather than how it was produced...
OK, the fact that he made letters and words with his lightning, then?
Don't recall seeing that a second time, either, so I'll just guess - was it during his time possessed as Starfinger?
Hint: Shortly after the incident, Garth found himself being arrested by a Science Police Captain with whom he shared a common homeworld...
I doubt that this is right, but I'll guess.
Assuming CMK is right about the electrical caligraphy (cuz he's cool like that!), when Live Wire was searching for Mekt was mistaken for him. This would be on the planet Bisbe, shortly before Mekt blasted off his arm.
Nope.
Hint: Appeared within a year of the tale in which Garth's original electrical message appeared in a flashback montage...
Was it in the Legionnaires 3 mini-series?
Final Hint Before Selecting A New Question:Two words--Cosmic World...
Wow, now I remember that story. That's when the Legionnaires used an amusement park's holograms to snap Brainiac 5 out of his madness. Superboy & the LSH # 256, IIRC. I guess Lightning Lad must have used his lightning to make words warning people to clear out of the place.
Wow, good memory.
Yup. Nine issues after S/LSH #247's Legion 247th "anniversary" story featuring the montage of images from Adventure Comics #247, Garth finally uses his electric skywriting powers once more to persuade the patrons of Cosmic World to leave in an orderly manner so that the Legion can commandeer the holo facilities to save Brainy's mind. After doing so, the park owner orders the Legionnaires arrested, and SP Captain Trake (who despite appearing Scottish, is later revealed to be a native of Winath in a subsequent letter column) complies. However, Brainy demonstrates his full return to sanity by showing that Cosmic World has inflicted ecological harm to the area, and after rectifying the damage, everyone leaves happy. Your turn, CMK.
After the conspiracy storyline, when Brainiac 5 was court-martialed for the murder of Jaxon Rugarth (aka the Infinite Man), he almost correctly predicted the outcome of the vote. Who was the one Legionnaire's vote that he mis-predicted?
I'll guess the obvious. Dream Girl
I believe it was Quislet, who abstained.
That is correct. I was going to mention the irony of Quislet, Esq getting that question wrong, but of course that would have given it away.
Who tried to repair "Demons or Heroes"?
It was Gear. I find him an intreging character who's calling out for development. I'm sure he is difficult to write for, to make identifiable for the reader, but that was probably true of Spock, too. They share the Human/Machine dichodomy that ultimately makes them the most interesting and identifiable. All of us deal daily with the emotion vs. intellect dynamic. Perhaps he will be featured in the next incarnation of LSH, but I imagine he is far down on any creative team's list. More than likely, we'll see him in the background of L3W #'s 5 & 6, and then never again. Quelle domage.
It's yours, CMK.
What power does Chameleon Chief have that Chameleon Boy does not?
He is able to change the shape of objects as well as himself
Correct, stuorstew. You're up.
Who was the prime suspect in the murder of Starfinger II?
Who are the members of the Frightful Five?
Obviously Amalgams, were they in a Spider-Boy story?
Yep. Spider-Boy Team-Up featuring the Legion of Galactic Guardians 2099.
I've been looking all over for this book, and you have me quite covinced me that I must organize my comics. Whenever I try, however, I start reading and never get back to it...
OK, from memory:
1. Manorb
2. Emerald Eye of Alletto (Amoretto?)
3. Sparticus
4. Tharlocke
5. ?
Close enough. For the record:
Manorb (Mano + the Orb)
Agamotto Empress (Emerald Empress + Eye of Agomotto)
Sparticus (Persuader + Gladiator)
Tharlok (Tharok + Deathlok)
Valinus (Validus + Terminus)
You go next.
Thanks, CMK, you're more generous than I would have been...
Who was destined to become the greatest hero of the planet Nyrvn?
Jon Ross, Pete's son! (instead, he apparently became a British talk show host
)
Yes. Saturn Girl, Lightning Lad, Sun Boy, and Dawnstar kidnapped Jon and convinced Superman to leave him on Nyrvn. Nice scene of Pete ripping Clark's clothes off. That was before he swore revenge. (DC Comics Presents #13, Sept.1979)
Gooooooo, Kent!
back in the days when a plausible story consisted of a best friend vowing vengeance on another, and mental illness meant turning into a master super-villain (remember the follow-up?). then everything's fine a few issues later once Supes rescues the brat anyway.
1st Dawnstar appearance I'd ever read, if I recall correctly.
anyway... new Q later. gotta run;daylight's burning.
name six stories that where thematic sequels/remakes of the original Sun Eater story.
Off the top of my head...
1. The Ghost of Ferro Lad - a direct sequel
2. Another sequel: during the Baxter run, Element Lad, Ultra Boy, Phantom Girl, Chameleon Boy and someone (Shrinking Violet?) find the Sun-Eater factory in another dimension or galaxy or something, and destroy it. Later, in another story, they find out that the controllers had a good reason for making these things. Does that count as one or two?
3. Reboot: the Fatal Five are formed as part of a plan to fight the rumored Sun-Eater...turns out that the Sun-Eater is just a rumor this time being used to give President Chu an excuse to form the Fatal Five.
4. The Final Night - the Sun Eater attacks, but this time in the 20th century. That was the reboot's actual version of the Sun Eater battle, while the above was the reboot version of the Fatal Five being formed (both of which constitute reboot versions of the original story).
5. I can't remember for sure, but was there a DC Comics Presents appearance by the Legion that involved fighting a Sun-Eater alongside Superman? Around #43 or something?
6. The two parter at the end of the Superman & the Legion of Super-Heroes animated show, which featured a battle with the Sun Eater, and the death of Ferro Lad.
How many of these are right?
1. yes.
2. those count as one, in my view. The Tyr World bit related to the situation of the prior story, but not to any Sun-Eater per se.
3. yes.
4. yes.
5. Yes. I'm pretty sure you even have the issue number right.
6. forgot that one, but it should count. I was thinking of an early 90s Superman/Legion story in the Supe "Time and Time Again" storyline (in which he met the youn, 70s and 5YL Legions at various times) that was in some ways remake of the DCCP tale.
Go, Xben!
OK, I don't know if I've posted this question on Legionworld before or not, but Kent's question reminded me of it. Anyway, in the reboot, President Chu was a specific reboot version for which preboot character?
There are probably several characters one could make her fit for, but there is one character in particular who did something preboot that nobody else ever did, and President Chu did nearly exactly the same thing in the post-boot that nobody else ever did.
Hint: it's not Universo.
Starfinger? I'm thinking of the whole brainwashed-Jan bit.
President Kandru? Malfesance on a presidential level?
Starfinger is the answer. Or the face behind Starfinger is more like it. The first guy (Was that Lars Hanscomb?) brainwashed Garth and made him Starfinger, while Chu brainwashed Jan and made him the villain-formerly-known-as-Starfinger.
Universo was also guilty of the presidential-level criminal activities, wasn't he?
twice.
okay... i'll be back with a new Q soon.
(Excluding any possible meeting in Crisis on Infinite Earths,) What 20th century "legacy" hero did the Legion only encounter on the cover of a comic book, never in the story itself?
Ahh--but Kandru and Chu were legitimately elected when they abused their powers. Universo's prior crimes involved fraud, although Universo's own actual administration of Earth was fairly clean.
Hmm, what about Power Girl #2? Or does delusionary encounters count?
A meeting was depicted in the story, even though it was an illusion/delusion.
The answer I'm looking for does not even have that.
Thom (wearing his Kingdom Come outfit) was featured on the covers of Starman (Jack Kinght) # 57-62, which had images of all of the Starmen and not just Jack and Mikaal whom he actually met (and Ted, who he met a mother box copy of).
good thought, but as Lar once commented, you can't have a Legion of one.
the cover I refer to has three Legionnaires on it.
hint: this story was well before COIE.
DC Super-Stars #29--The founders "meet" the original Huntress, Helena Wayne of Earth 2?
I don't believe in Helena Wayne, so I'll say Green Arrow, from the same cover.
DC Super Stars #17 was the issue number, actually.
The way I intended to word the question (but failed to) was to exclude other non-COIE meetings of these characters as well (which would have eliminated GA, who met the Legion in JLA 147-148).
But re-reading my question, I did specify a 'legacy' character. GA could be argued a 'legacy' of Robin Hood, but in comic terms he is an original in his own right (and Robin Hood wasn't 20th C, so there's technicality-wiggle-room for me to disqualify him).
So it is Korbal's fish to fry.
What criminal mastermind succeeded in capturing, imprisoning, and experimenting on Superboy and Mon-El, simultaneously, all in complete secrecy?
Paul Levitz!

By "legacy" I thought you meant an inspiration for the Legion, and JLA member Green Arrow would qualify, and non-entity Huntress would not, even when "Helena Wayne" existed. I failed to understand the question, but could not have come close w/o Korbil's answer.
I love questions like this that make us think, rather than just regurgitate facts.
I remember at the time being confused by the cover. Why would Ollie be so chummy with Rokk, Imra, & Garth, and why would that be significant to the file the Huntress was stealing? I wish I still owned any of those old DC Super-Stars issues...

The way most people seem to use the term "legacy hero" means someone who is an heir to another hero, either by lineage (Helena/Bruce Wayne), mentorship (Batman/Robin) or deliberate taking up an abandoned role and tying oneself to what came before (Mister Terrific).
I'm not familiar with Ollie inspiring the Legion, or 'legacy' used in such a specific context. Sorry for any confusion.

True, but putting Hitler's and Nero's minds in their bodies was done subtly, until the evil personalities took over.
Final Hint Before New Question:The Perpetrator was never captured by the Legion, but rather suffered the fatal scorn of a confederate...
Cosvarr, from Action Comics #382, captured Kal and Mon to create his Protector Androids who shortly thereafter ambushed Ultra Boy. The Legion never even knew their most powerful members were in captivity until they stumbled upon them. Cosvarr was apparently killed when a disguised Ayla caught his fancy and his jealous female collaborator destroyed them both (after letting the Legionnaires escape) in a fit of scorned rage.
New Question:What recent 21st Century DCU Villian comes from the planet, Vorn, first mentioned in ADVENTURE COMICS#339?
Hint: Can be considered a "ringslinger"...
One of the Sinestro Corps? I don't know many of them by name...
Yup, this member is said to be the "Kilowog" of their corps...
Hint:He'd be among the first Sinestro members listed alphabetically...
Hmm--no takers? Okay, his name was Arkillo.
New Question: Who tried to take over Bismoll by utilizing the surviving Computo clones from Adventure #341?
Pulsar Stargrave.
Finally, a question I can answer again!
Chaim sure pounced on that one.
Yup, from the Sub's Special. Your turn CMK.
Well, after the last two, I had some pent-up frustration.
What comic book was Dr. Gym'll shown to be a collector of?
Flash
specifically, the pre-Crisis (Barry Allen) series.
Good eye, Kent. Your question next.
Name three real-world human-made structures that have existed since before the 20th century that still exist in the Legion's era.
Tower of London (pre-boot, beginning of Great Darkness Saga)
Great Wall of China (mentioned as still existing in the 30th century by time-lost Legionnaires, in the Annual where Karate Kid and Projectra got married)
Alamo (reboot, White Triangle story)
those are the three I was thinking of. I expected the Great Wall might be the trick one, since Jo sees it in the ancient past claims it still exists... but we ner saw it.
(the Alamo, where Panamanian strongman George Washington wrote his epic poem, "The Raven," in 1913)
Go, Chaim!
What part of Phantom Girl's costume came from Bgztl?
I was going to say her touchstone, but that was Apparition.
Yes, that's not what I was referring to. Pre-boot, specifically.
it was her belt, wasn't it? I'm recalling that 20th C bit by Roy Thomas.
That is correct, Kent. Back to you.
In what non-Legion comic did the Amazers of Xanthu appear?
Starman #50, when the Shade engulfed Xanthu.
When was Garth seen using his powers to slightly affect weather?
Issue 5 of the threeboot? Against Terror Firma?
Adventure # 328 showed Garth using his lightning to summon forth clouds in order to cool a hot day.
Aside from the retcon Kid Quantum, name the only other pre-boot Legionnaire whose power relied solely on a device or weapon.
Rond Vidar? Funny, I'm not sure if he counts as either a Legionnaire, or as pre-boot. Legion history is so mixed up.
Unless you mean Alaktor or one of those other one-off fake members?
No, it's not Rond.
Hint: Although not a villain, this person was a Legionnaire for one issue only.
No. Anti-Lad wasn't technically a member, if I read SUPERBOY # 204 correctly. He had merely passed the "preliminary tests."
Hint 2: This Legionnaire was already a member (in another identity) of an auxiliary branch of the Legion.
You got it, Eryk.
Biron was really Comet the Super-Horse, a member of the Legion of Super-Pets. In ADVENTURE # 364, he temporarily reverted to his human identity when a comet passed near the earth; he then infiltrated the Legion after being duped by a villain. The Legion, aware of the plot, allowed him to join even though his "power" consisted of his skill with the bow and arrow.
Of course, Biron didn't join the Legion alone in that story. His co-conspirator was . . . well, maybe that's the subject of another question.
Okay, let's go for that. Name every Legionnaire (in any boot) who took the name of a dead character, at least temporarily.
Lightning Lass called herself Lightning Lad when he was dead, and in the reboot Spark called herself Live Wire for a while.
Invisible Kid II, Karate Kid II, Kid Quantum II and LeViathan all did. Star Boy's been calling himself Starman recently.
That's all I can think of.
I figured Spark as Live Wire would be a difficult one.
There's at least two more I can think of, both fairly obscure.
Proty II (a sort-of Legionnaire) as Blockade Boy?
Yeah, that's one of 'em. And the one that connects to the previous question.
The last one I'm thinking of was not a member in a regularly published Legion continuity.
Douglas Nolan as Ferro Lad in LSHv2 #300?
Yeah, that's the one. Your question, Matthew.
What do the following Legionnaires have in common, uniquely among Legionnaires?
Kono
Gates
Devlin O'Ryan
(and maybe original-version Princess Projectra, although I'm not entirely sure about it)
Real names with apostrophes in them?
Just out of curiosity, Matthew, what made you think that Projectra's name had a apostrophe?
Aside from the obvious Jo Nah, name at least 2 Legion characters, from any version, who have "Biblical/ Christian" names (such as Paul or David-only one name necessary) in the English translation.
Originally posted by He Who Wanders:

I've seen references to original-recipe Jeckie's full name being "Projectra Wind'zzor". But I don't know where that comes from.

Yeah, Sensor was Jeka Wynzorr (no apostrophe). I didn't think Jeckie had a surname either, but I've seen claims that she did and that it had an apostrophe.
I think that came from the Dark Circle story, where she goes home. I'm pretty sure it was used in that story, if I'm recalling right.
The current question seems to have gone neglected, so I'll give it a shot:
Jacques (which in English is Jacob, Biblical Patriarch)
Danielle (a feminization of Daniel, Biblical prphet)
Those will work. Also there's James (a disciple) Cullen, Andrew (a disciple) Nolan, and you might even make the case for (The Apostle) Pol/Paul Krinn. There may be others. Go, CMK!
Who was killed by Jacques Foccart's inability to control his teleportation powers?
One of the Khund assassins sent to murder a Presidential candidate. Can't remember if he actually had a name.
That's good enough for me. You take it, EDE.
I just realized I'd completely forgotten I had the next question for this.
Um... name the members of the cartoon version of the Legion of Substitute-Heroes.
Porcupine Pete, Infectious Lass, Color Kid, Stone Boy, Chlorophyll Kid.
Has the Legion had any female leaders who weren't blonde? If so, name them; if not, name the blonde ones.
Dream Girl and Sensor Girl both had silver/white hair (though some may have described Nura as platium blonde, I don't think that term applies to Jeckie).
Shrinking Violet/LeViathan (brunette) was leader of the Legion while she was controlled by the Emerald Eye in the reboot.
Kid Quantum was Afro-Xanthuan with black hair, natch.
Those are the ones I can think of.
I count both Dream Girl and Sensor Girl as blonde. It was Vi and Jazmin I was thinking of. Go ahead.
How many Legionnaires and Reservists come from worlds that have been destroyed?
Good question--but no, let's exclude earth.
Pre-Boot:
Superboy
Supergirl
Kid Psycho
Blok
Element Lad (depopulated, but not physically destroyed)
Valor and Laurel Gand (during the "Glorithverse" phase, depopulated, but not physically destroyed)
Post-Boot:
Element Lad (depopulated, but not physically destroyed)
Three-Boot:
Supergirl
Princess Projectra (depopulated, but not physically destroyed)

And the next question is...I wait with baited breath
What about Triad? Depopulated but not physically destroyed. She was the only one left.
I don't remember Triad's world being depopulated, but, in any case, I was going after worlds that had been physically destroyed. Chaim identified the three I was thinking of, the supercousins and Kid Psycho. (I forgot about Blok.)
Take it away, CMK.
rickshaw, if you're referring to threeboot Triplicate Girl, it's true that no one but copies of Luornu live there at "present", but they seem to be maintaining a population. (Though I imagine they'll need to import some males at some point within a generation.)
Why did Shrinking Violet dump Duplicate Boy?
Because he knew that she had been replaced by an imposter (Yera), but did nothing about it.
Yup. You take it, Wanders.
Name three preboot Legionnaires who were known by different codenames before they joined the Legion.
Lone Wolf
Erg-1
Mystery Lad
Which pre-boot Legionnaire could temporarily "share" their power with others without physical or technological means?
Quislet sort of shared his with Wildfire, if that's what you mean.
Nope, this was during the Adventure era, and could presumably share this ability with any other sentient being for a limited time.
Didn't Saturn Girl make others temorarily telepathic in one story?
Yup--Imra granted telepathic power (she pointed and apparently thought at them real hard) to the Super-Pets! She even added an extra long "charge" so they could communicate for several days without her in Adventure #364. You're up next, dedman.
What are the names of the creators of Lamprey and Nightwind?
Scott Taylor and Robert Harris.
OK - who's the third member of the triad of which dedman's question named two - character and creator?
Crystal Kid, whose creator would have been, what, Robert Cohen?
That's right - all introduced in Legion # 272.
Your turn, Matthew.
Complete the analogy.
God
:Adam:????
(There are quite a few obvious guesses for this one, but I have something very specific in mind.)
Reminder: this isn't a general comic-book trivia question. It's a Legion trivia question.
Nope and nope.
Here's an extension to the analogy that should provide a hint.
Michelangelo:Giffen::God
:Adam:???
RJ Brande?
your clues still could make any human male an appropriate choice.
Matthew can explain his own reasoning, but here's how I interepret the clues:
The commonality is opposites. Michaelangelo was a more realistic or conventional artist; Giffen is more abstract. God is, according to most faiths, the Creator of the Universe and a benevolent diety; Darkseid is an evil deity and destroyer of many things. Adam was the first man on earth and progenitor of the human race; the Time Trapper is the last being on earth and, as a force of entropy, the end of everything.
Of course, I could be grasping at relational straws.
I can't really see 'opposite' as a commonality. Giffen may not be naturalistic as a renaissance artist, but does use representational imagery. A complete abstract artist would be closer (if one accepts the rather dubious premise that naturalistic and abstract are opposites. I would suggest someone anti-art entirely would be a better choice, or even someone clearly lacking in visual expression). There is no clear consensus on what any god or God is, and the capitalization suggests the Abrahamic god... as described in the old testament, he is hardly an opposite of Darkseid
if Adam is a first man (even in terms of metaphor), he is generally first mortal human (as opposed to animal or angel), and the Trapper isn't really mortal.
my interpretation has been chronological; one precedes and influences the later, which is why I see it as very vague. My interpretation clearly lacks a clear solution for the Adam clue, but if "opposites" are indeed the commonality, I would suggest the entire clue structure is problematic, if not incorrect.
Good points, Kent. I'll defer to your understanding of art. As for God and Adam, the connections are, admittedly, loose, but since we're trying to find an answer that relates to the Legion, I'll stick with the Time Trapper for now.
Just for the sake of argument, though
, I don't see how Adam "precedes and influences" R.J. Brande. Depending on the continuity, Brande was either a Durlan or (possibly) a Martian (unless the threeboot did something different with R.J., of which I'm not aware). I suppose R.J.'s role in founding the Legion could be compared to Adam's role in starting the human race, but the matters of scale and method seem troubling to me.
After researching Michelangelo, I have an alternate answer:
Validus.
The commonality would go something like this: Michelangelo depicted God in "The Creation of Adam"; Giffen depicted Darkseid, who created Validus.
These are some really interesting guesses. None of them correct, but nonetheless intelligent guesses for all that.
HWW's most recent post comes closest to following my thinking, but doesn't include my final one or two steps.
I'm being much more literal than you guys think I am. Your reasoning is much more abstract than I am being.
And the answer is *not* a human male. Nor is it any creation of Darkseid.
That's got to be it! I feel like Agent Kujan in "The Usual Suspects": the truth was right in front of us all along.
Good puzzle, Matthew!
Going with the notion of "In thy image," the answer would have to be the planet Daxam, and his "tools" were the Daxamites...
Shadow Lass is correct!
I have a Legion Abstract post based partially on that image coming up any week now, by the way...
OK, dovetailing off of Matthew's question, and using a similar example, complete this analogy:
Jesus:Lightning Lord::Judas:???
It's been awhile since I've seen that issue.
Nemesis Kid?
No, not Nemesis Kid, though from a character trait standpoint, that would have been pretty clever.
Neutrax?
Neither Sun Emperor, Neutrax, nor Zymyr.
Hint: It's not so much the role of the individual that completes the analogy as the placement.
i can almost see it. i thought it was either neutrax or radiation roy, but now i'm thinking it was:
Mist Master?
Nor Mist Master.
As with Matthew's E's original example, allow me to extend the analogy:
da Vinci:Giffen::Jesus:Lightning Lord::Judas:???
Ding, Ding, Ding! We have a winner.
The original , with Judas the fourth head from the left, clutching his bag of silver
and
Giffen\'s homage .
Question to Sharky.
Who was the only member of the LSV left unaccounted for (not captured) at the end of "An Eye for an Eye" storyline?
d'oh ... true, but I had someone else in mind ...
Eyeful Ethel would be apropos
This character escaped with a group of LSVers from the limbo between Earth and Orando but was not captured by the Science Police a few issues later ...
nope ... CC was captured after the White Witch de-chameleoned him ...
I thought your "in mind" phrase was a clue. Guess it was. Anyhoo, off we go...
Who was the the first Legionnaire to fight the sun-eater?
Yep - way back in the early days of the Adventure run. Take it away, KK!
Who took Superboy's place when he was rejected for Legion membership?
No.
Well, that is the Anti-answer, so Yes.
It is yours, HWW.
(I wonder if Anti-Lad will have a place in...whatever the next Legion comes to be.)
Fill in the blank:
? --> E; cloud --> feather; lightning --> ________.
That's it, Chaim!
The symbols above represented the changing chest emblems of Adventure-era Legionnaires. Mystery/Element Lad's chest emblem changed from a question mark to the letter E. Light Lass's emblem changed from a cloud to a feather, and, before that, her Lightning Lass emblem changed from lightning to a cloud.
Name three occasions, in any version of the Legion, where Chameleon/Chameleon Boy's antennae detected something that others couldn't sense.
Adventure #359 records Mantis Morlo's form
Advebture #360 records Matis Morlo's clone
Threeboot, on Colu detects Light Lass's fruit and later detects Praetor Lemnos
Well, you got two of them, so you'll get the next question - I wasn't thinking of Mantis Morlo as being two seperate answers - the third one I had in mind was in the ReBoot, when Cham detects that the Science Police officer who claimed to have caught the Composite Man in mouse form was actually himself the Composite Man.
You take it, Korbal.
A blast from the past: Who was Jan Barth?
The explorer that was killed by the guy Star Boy shot.
Yup, intending to use the Kallor observatory for a homebase on Karak, Barth was killed by the driven-insane-by-jealousy, Kenz Nuhor.
Your turn Matthew
What do the following Legionnaires have in common? (There may be one or two others who belong on here... Andromeda, maybe.)
Cosmic Boy
Colossal Boy/Leviathan
Timber Wolf
Karate Kid
Uhhh... hmm. That's not what I was going for. Plus, I don't recall Marte Allon dying--did she ever?
I wasn't sure if she had or not--though as president, she'd be a prime candidate for assassination. But that's all I could think of.
Hint: there are some Legionnaires that not only don't qualify for this list; they couldn't qualify for this list, like Tellus, Thunder or Gazelle.
They all were born on Earth?
(TW is the possible problem there ...)
Kent: No, if it was that I would have had Garth on the list; you know the two of them must have been at each other's throats for most of their lives.
KryptonKid: No, but you're getting warm.
Their place of birth were altered in Legion mythos:
Rokk: Braal to Earth
Gim : Earth to Mars
Brin: Zoon to Apokolips/Zuun
Val : Earth to Omega Colony
Laurel: Daxam to Ricklef II
Basically, yes: I was thinking that their places of birth were altered from boot to boot.
Rokk: Earth to Braal
Gim: Earth to Mars
Brin: Zoon to Rimbor
Val: Earth to Omega Colony
Laurel: Ricklef II to Daxam
But you're essentially right. Go ahead.
Was Brin established as Rimborian and not from Zuun in the reboot? There was that scene set on Apokolips in Paul Levitz's short tale "Mosaic" which otherwise does not make sense in the story if a future Legionnaire was not present (and Brin was the most obvious choice).
Anyways, back to the question: What mission did Vi miss because she was "vacationing" on a hydrogen atom?
Was it the Orando trip against Mantis Morlo?
Yup. Adventure #362 & #363 the Legion's second battle against Morlo. The text of the splash page Roll Call of #363 "explained" Vi's whereabouts. Your turn stew.
What was Night Girls other power?
Not quite but also not miles away
An extra ability that allows her to increase her strength when she destroys any "shadow creatures." As seen in Legion Of Three Worlds #3.
X-ray vision, as seen in the story with the two zany old men from Throon.
Yep your go Eryk.
Just out of interest was this power ever mentioned again?
there was an old man from Throon
they say was mad as a loon
Lydda's X-rays glanced
right through his pants;
blushing fell into a swoon.
Originally posted by stuorstew:

Apparently not. I always assumed that they were flirting with the idea of giving her the full range of Kryptonian powers (but only in darkness), but the idea got dropped after that story.
Next question:
Who was the first non-founding member of the Legion of Substitute-Heroes?
I did first think it was Color Kid. Then I remembered the Star Boy gets expelled story, which at the end, Dream Girl invites him to join the subs with her.
Geez, now I have to ask a question. Hmmmm.....
OK, after Saturn Girl, Cosmic Boy, & Lightning Lad, who were the next three named Legionnaires?
Chameleon Boy, Colossal Boy, and Invible Kid

Clonus from the Wanderers series.
That's the one. YOu go, Korbal.

Khund Field Marshall Lorca?
That's the one. Your turn, Korbal.
Beyond native daughter Saturn Girl, what other Legionnaire gained powers on Saturn's moon, Titan?
It couldn't be Mentalla, could it?
stew--Wildfire did briefly get healing powers from a dying beast native to Titan but not necessarily on the moon itself (Brainy's lab was somewhere in the Solar system though).
OP--Nope.
Dreamer's powers were augmented on Titan. Does that count?
Kent-no--this is simply a character who went to Titan and gained the powers with which they later joined the Legion...
Correct! As revealed in the first reboot Annual, Zoe found a pool of energy in an ancient tomb on Titan while on a dig with her Mom. The next question is yours...

Not Gim.
And what am I missing that makes Dirk Morgna "close"?
Well, if I told you, then you'd know.
Magno? Heard of a Dirk Mags who has done DC audio presentations (Death of Superman, Knightfall) don't know if he actually worked in radio...

The Psycho Warrior exploited that phobia against Dirk, didn't he?

Blok and Mysa seem to like one another a lot - what do they have in common that no other Legionnaires do?
They're both former supervillains.
That's it. Your question, Matt.
Name a Legionnaire (I only know of one, but I may be missing something) who, counting across all continuities, has belonged to three superhero/supervillain groups other than the Legion of Super-Heroes, and name the groups.
(And go look at my current entry in the "Name Three" quiz--I learned something yesterday that shocked me to the core and I instantly turned it into a trivia question.)
Kon-el has been in Young Justice, Teen Titans, & the Ravers.
Yeah, I just thought of him this morning. The guy I had in mind was Star Boy, who has been in the Subs, the Uncanny Amazers, and the JSA.

I thought of Star Boy, but since the Thom that was in the Amazers was never in the Subs I went with Superboy II.

Name all of the Legionaires who hid their identity when they joined the team (I'm only thinking pre-five years later, and I'm only thinking of members who are generally considered to be members, not people who were only members for one story, like Nemesis Kid)

Marvel Lad
Mystery Lad
Sir Prize
Miss Terious
Sensor Girl
That's everyone that I could think of. Go ahead.
Name all characters who have been depicted as members of the Heroes of Lallor.
Evolvo Lad
Gas Girl
Beast Boy
Duplicate Boy
Life Lass
and, in the reboot, Splitter (Arm-Fall-Off Boy)

didn't he have a black eye?
(iirc, he also had a small box shoved in his mouth. it was, perhaps, about the right size for a wedding ring? idk, it was a long time ago)
Changed his hair (shaved the sideburns or something like that....)
KK, that's just an injury. rickshaw1, you're closer, but not quite.
Hint: It didn't happen immediately after the breakup - I believe this could first be seen during the Magic Wars. (The HoL didn't make too many appearances in the Post-Crisis era)
He grew a moustache. (I remember thinking that he looked like a sleazy nightclub comedian.)
Yes he did, and yes, he did. Your turn, HWW.
Who was given Shrinking Violet's power for six hours?
Brainiac 5 in the Nardo story?
Right story. Wrong Legionnaire.
You got it, Eryk.
Invisible Kid was shrunk down to tiny size by Nardo as punishment for an escape attempt. After six hours, the Imskian effect wore off.
Speaking of Violet, her reputation as "Shy Vi" is well-earned in the early Adventure era! She barely spoke in the early days.
Who was the first Legionnaire she is depicted speaking to, and in what context?
Without looking at the archives, I'm going to guess it was Chameleon Boy, as they searched through the city of little people for Doll Man (aka Mr. Myx V).
Well, after checking the archives I see that was not correct.
Bouncing Boy?
"Sun Boy?!! Well, that's @#!^ up, Balloon Boy."
Not quite *that* early!
Hint: It involves a new member!
That'll do.
Vi's first recorded words are a rather lengthly exposition of who Zaryan the Conqueror is, in response to Matter-Eater Lad's saying that, as a new member, he wasn't familiar with Zaryan!
Vi was holding it all in for the right moment.
Be back next year with a new question.
Who was Zarl Hendricks and what was his unwitting contribution to a Legionnaire's origin?
Didn't he die in the accident that gave Sun Boy his powers?
Close enough. Zarl was killed in an explosion when he and Dirk interrupted an experiment conducted by Dr. Regulus. When Regulus was fired by Dirk's father, he went after Dirk, and the rest is history.
Back to you, Eryk.
Okay, what change was made to the above story when retold 5YL?
Zarl was retconned to be a girl named Alissa.
Pointless retcons. Another strike against 5YL.
Who were Mo Seh and Doctor Hazeg?
Mo Seh was a name that Chameleon Boy used on Rimbor whilst trying to infiltrate Starfinger IIs gang. Doctor Hazeg was the name used by Gim for the same purpose.
Which rejected applicants father was the Vice-Chancellor of Antares?
Thanks, I wasn't sure if I got the name right.
Where did the Legion leave Koko?
Was it "4"? I just remember Tenazor.
At any rate, it goes to Trivia Master Korbal.
How is Khard Wlessey linked to the Legion?
Hint: Although never depicted on-panel, early in the 5YG he was revealed to be a (non-blood) relative of a longtime Legionnaire...
Is he Tinya's stepfather?
What character is known to have tried out for the Legion of Super-Heroes alongside the original Legion of Substitute-Heroes members, but did not join either team?
Who was meant to be the sixth member of the Devil's Dozen?
Korbal (unsurprisingly, given the name) has it correct.
Which Legionnaire once nearly stomped on Violet, causing her to develop a severe phobia of using her native Imskian powers to shrink?
Colossal Boy seems too obvious so... Ultra Boy?
Hint:This Legionnaire is no stranger to mental troubles as well...
EDE is correct, as revealed by Brainy during his diagnosis of Vi's short-lived shrinking phobia from S/LSH #217 "Stay Small or Die!"
Kind of a follow-up question:
Which Legionnaire once saved Sun Boy from being crushed by a giant figure, and where?
Ultra Boy, on the Puppet Planetoid?
Who was considered to be the Legion's best scientist during the Magic Wars?
No. She was living on Xanthu with Atmos at the time.
Crap! I completely forgot about this.
Er... name the members of the second (Baxter era) Legion of Substitute-Heroes.
Cosmic Boy
Night Girl
Comet Queen
Karate Kid 2
I still feel I'm missing someone though
You're missing Bouncing Boy and Duo Damsel.
Now that I think about it, he question is actually more ambiguous than I intended it to be. dedman's list plus cmk's are the members depicted in WWitLSH, though I don't believe Duo Damsel actively participated in their first mission, though she and the rest of the Academy members (who could thus be argued to be Subs as well) cleaned things up back on Earth, as I recall. So, it could include dedman's four plus just BB, dedman's four plus BB and DD, or dedman's four plus BB, DD, and the entire academy.
Anyway, dedman got most of them (and hasn't asked a question recently), so we might as well give it to him.
oops, didn't realize I had next question...be back later with something
Who has the philosophers stone when the reboot legion first encounter it?
Who was the childhood friend of Zarl Hedricks?
You got it! It's pretty hard to think up Legion Trivia questions for this board
Hint:Can aptly be described as short, stuttering, and adept with a sani-vac...
The small Validus shaped major-domo that Brainy built?
The Time Trapper's majordomo, IIRC.
Yep, Otok only appeared during the LEGIONNAIRES 3 mini by Giffen/Newell/Colan--CMK is up!
Which Legionnaires were in the 20th century during Zero Hour?
I know I'll be off but its worth a try to see how close I'll get:
Emerald Dragon (Jo), SW6 Cos, SW6 Imra, SW6 Garth.
Ugh, I feel like there should be more but that's all I remember.
That's because that's all there were. You're up!
Jillikers! Cool! Now to try to come up with a question that won't be answered in 15 seconds by you guys!
Other than being 30th century space-beasts, what do a Tigerram, a Jovian mastodon, an Ankarian toad, a Venusian tricorn beast, a Toradian karkon, an Oraxian cyclops and a sloth-ape have in common?
They were all captured by the Hunter?
With the quickness! You got it!
You guys are too good with the Legion trivia!
Which Legionnaires would be particularly welcome to use their powers on planet Zond?
Shrinking Violet & the Chameleon duo? And Quislet maybe?
Nope, that's not it!
Here's a hint: Zond has something in common with Kaffar!
Hmmm, Kaffar rings a bell but there's no one home to answer it.
So I'll just randomly guess again - the Invisible Kids?
Cos & Pol because it helps their magnetism!
Actually, their magnetism would be particularly effective on Zond, but that's not the answer!
Then it must be Sun Boy and Polar Boy to regulate the temperature of Zond!
Bloody Liberty! I don't like random guessing!
Saturn Girl and Tellus since no one communicates normally?
Nope!
Jeepers! I guess you guys were so enchanted by this issue featuring one of the classic appearances of Calamity King, that you don't remember Zond at all!
Is that the Luck Lords home? Not that it will help me at all.
Wait! Is it Garth & Ayla, whose lighting would be lucky?
Yep! The planet Zond is inhabited by metallic beings who believe that getting struck by lightning brings good luck!
In that same sequence, we learn that on planet Kaffar, windows are considered unlucky, becsause they let demons in!
Yay! It only took me like 5 tries!
Until you said Calamity King, it was just random guesses.
A gang of Mohadian aqua-crooks took orders from which Legion villain?
Remember them from a story in Adventure #371, seemed they were operating on their own...
Though they maintained some independence, they were pretty much operating under someone's directive.
It wasn't Mantis Morlo though!
Evillo? (I have no idea in case you hadn't guessed.
)

New Question:
Which Legionnaires were born on the plaent Renii?
Invisible Kid II and Computo?
Kids Quantum, Monstress, & Star Boy?
Nope!
Repeating the question:
Which Legionnaires were born on planet Renii?
Don and Dawn weren't Legionnaires!
And weren't born on Renii!
Hint: One Legionnaire from Renii is male, the other one is female.
Nope.
Hint: This is a fairly straightforward question. I'm not relying on alternate names for familiar planets or any sneaky tricks like that. There are two Legionnaires, one male and one female, whose homeworld is the planet Renii. If you ask what planet these Legionnaires come from, "Renii" would be the most obvious answer.
And we have a winner!
Silverwing and Argent, members of Wildfire's Legion in the Legend of the Dead Earth Annual, were born on planet Renii.
I always assumed their introduction was a setup for the planet to be introduced in the regular timeline Legion, but it never was.
What was Dev-Em's first recorded crime?
Tresspassing- Baby Kal-El and Krypto found him in Jor-El's lab on Krypton.
OK. I was looking for vandalism (window-breaking), but you're right.
Go, Korbal!
Who once advised Star Boy to "Cool up?"
(Good guess stuorstew, what I would have thought)
Cham?
I remember this...I could look it up, but I'll just guess. Was it Saturn Girl?
Lance recalled the right Legionnaire--in a Chronicler's note from SUPERBOY #204, the readers were informed that "cool up" was 30th Century slang for "calm down"...
Funny how I distinctly remembered that panel. Likely because it was one of the first issues of Legion I ever read. Since I only had a handful of Legion comics back when I was a kid, I read them all dozens of times.
New question coming as soon as I think one up...
Ok, let's stay with Legion slang...who once told Imra "Timber Wolf and the others are on a wild klanth chase?"
Bonus points if you know who the Legion was looking for.
Brainy?
And they were looking for Jo?
Dream Girl, looking for the Lost Legionnaires after the LSV war?
Nope. Ok, a hint. They were looking for someone who was responsible for the death of a Legionnaire.
Light Lass and they were looking for that guy who killed Chemical King?
Yes, and his name was Deregon. Take it away, Blacula!
I think this one may be too obscure even for the Legion-experts on this board but we'll see -
Who was Dr. Cevetem?
He is the man who called the Leggionnaires to the moon observatory to view the Sun Eater in Time and Time Again
I should've known better than to doubt the Legionphiles at this place!
Even characters who make obscure one page appearances in a non-Legion comic from the early 90s get remembered around here.
My hat's off to you stuorstew. And the question is yours.
You should actually thank the UK Leadership Debate for being not that interesting so I could catch up on the FYL reread.
What did Talon Redbeard steal from the Legionaires?
The plans for UP defences?
No; you were closer the first time
Yep that is right.
It happened in Legion of Super-Heroes in the 31st Century #17.
Your go
Ok, here we go...
What was U.S. Project Vanguard?
An agreement with Vril Dox?
No...much earlier than that.
The sattilite Rokk pulled out of orbit for Superboy to stop in the first Legion story
The Solar Stunner, a weapon kept in the Legion Arsenal, was constructed on which Legionnaire's homeworld?
Brainy revealed to the readers that the Solar Stunner was from Titan in SUPERBOY #199. KKid is up next.
Who was the associate of Steggus and Gorax?
Close, but not what I am looking for.
Who told Tusker that he and Eyeful Ethel could get into the Legion of Super-Villains by destroying a planet's government computer system?
Indeed it was he. You're up, EDE.
Pre-Zero Hour, Saturn Girl was the most frequently appearing female Legionnaire.
Who is second?
Yes, as the 8th most frequently appearing Legionnaire pre-Zero Hour, Shrinking Violet is the only other female in the Top 10!
Thanks Eryk. That was an interesting list. I knew it had to be an Adventure era femme but I had discounted Vi until I remembered her prominence in v.4.
Question -
Who are Batter-Eater Lad, Beachball Boy, Butler-Eater Lad, Butter-Eater Lad, Button-Eater Lad, Kid Kid, Kid Lass, Lightning Lice, Loud Kid, Mutton-Eater Lad, and Negative Lass?
I've seen this. IIRC, some poters here on Legion World kept bringing up "Button-Eater Lad" and it took me a while to figure out what they were talking about. Were they the Legion of Super-Teens, or something like that?
Well, 'something like that' is vague enough that I'd give it to you if Legion of Super-Teens were close... but unfortunately it's not really.
The team name would be good but I'm more asking where the team is from.
Were they not the members of the Logjam of Super-Heroes?
Yes they were! From New Years Evil: Mr Mxyzptlk.
You're up stuorstew.
According to information provided by a rejected applicant How much is a Vacation on Venus?
100,000 of an undisclosed denomination
Yes that is correct, your go Korbal
What act did Saturn Girl initially consider "impossible" and then subsequently deem "disgusting"?
Reading the mind of a Deregon robot?
Entering the mind of a Durlan?
Eating Garth's home cooking?
Her pink disco-costume?
Conceiving children with a Protean?
Lance is oh so close, but not quite right...
OK, had to look it up - it was reading the mind of a Brainiac 5 robot.
Ooops! Too slow
Since I am sure I am correct, I will go ahead and ask the next question:
Who was the first character to say "Long live the Legion?"
Neither guess is correct.
A small hint - this quote is from the very early days of the Legion.
The Legion of Substitute Heroes?
Cobie has it - it was Sun Boy from Adventure #300, lo those many years ago. Or perhaps years ahead. Anyway, next question to you Cobie...
On what world did the Legion meet Demo the Dreadful?
(Thinking up Legion questions for this board is HARD!)
stuorstew has it--you really know your Legion history!!
Thanks I have been making a concerted effort to learn my Adventures - I am glad it is paying off.
Via which device was Superboy able to see Menatl Images of the cities Mechago, Necropolis and Gothikter?
Nope
It was held by a Legionnaire but not one from this dimension.
The Mentazo ring of the evil Invisible Kid
What future DCU hero was affected by the Crystal of Catastrophe after the Legion defeated the villainous Sden, and Superboy took the crystal back in time?
Hint: Unfluenced by the Crystal this character assumed the identity of "Mighty Girl."
Hint: She has served in the JLA...
It's been over a week, so I'll post a new question.
Originally posted by Korbal:
What future DCU hero was affected by the Crystal of Catastrophe after the Legion defeated the villainous Sden, and Superboy took the crystal back in time?
Barbara Gordon the future Batgirl "borrowed" the crystal from her camp counselor, Clark Kent.
New Question: It's fairly well known that GiGi Cusimano was named for Paul Levitz's wife, what is her real first name, and why was she nicknamed "GiGi?"
Jeanette.
I think Gigi was her college nickname?
Right name, but wrong reason for the nickname.
Hint: It had something to do with Paul's predecessor at DC
Jeanette.
Gigi, so as not to be confused with Jeanette Kahn?
Kent gets it! Ms. Cusimano was already working at DC when she met her future husband. This fact was revealed in a Legion Outpost letter answered by then Legion editor, Karen Berger.
What Legionnaire delivered Jimmy Olsen's wedding present?
nope and nope.
Even if Supergirl did pop up, Cobie, she wasn't doing so as a Legionnaire.
I'm thinking of a specific person representing the legion who showed up in a time bubble.
"The Monkey Rode on the Rocketship" was a favorite childhood song of what Legionnaire?
Bonus: What happened to the monkey who rode on the rocketship?
Animated Lightning Lad
Went off into space?
I was looking for Ayla, but I'll take that (since she wasn't technically a Legionnaire in that continuity, and he sings it too).
And the answer to the bonus question is <span class="spoiler_containter"><span class="spoiler_wording">Click Here For A Spoiler</span><span class="spoiler_text">bumped his head on the moon</span></span>.
In honor of Tyroc's iminent return to the Legion duty roster: What was the name of the criminal group he infiltrated when he first met the Legion?
Hope this question's not too vague.
Tyroc's island home of Marzal is often described by comparison to Brigadoon. There is, however, a fairly major difference between Brigadoon's periodic appearance and re-appearance and that of Marzal.
What is this difference?
I'm not sure, but is the difference that time didn't pass in Brigadoon between it's appearances, whereas in Marzal, it did?
That's what I had in mind. From the perspective of the inhabitants of Brigadoon, they would go to bed at night, and wake up hundred years later from the perspective of the outside world, whereas Marzal simply moved into another dimension.
I believe it was 1)Marzal appeared every 300 years on Earth and 2)Because of Tyroc's use of his powers he affected Marzal's disappearance...it disappeared earlier than it was supposed too.
Braniac 5 and which 6 other Legionairres were there to greet Superman and Batman after they had defeated their "Mother" and two "Fathers"?
I remember this was a great scene but lets see if I can remember who was there specifically.
Saturn Girl
Cosmic Boy
Lightning Lad
Dawnstar
Wildfire
Timberwolf
Saturn Girl
Cosmic Boy
Lightning Lad
Wildfire
Timber Wolf
Shadow Lass
I don't know this reference. Where can I find info on it, please?
They were the Adult Legion, right?
Cosmic Man
Lightning Man
Saturn Woman
Matter-Eater Man
Dream Woman
Chameleon Man
KK, It was at the conclusion of the Superman/Batman arc with the LSV, about 5 years ago. The 60s-style Adult Legion cameo at the end. I haven't read it since it came out, so let's see what I can remember:
Dream Woman
Cosmic Man
Lightning Man
Saturn Woman
Element Man
Chameleon Man
Eryk has the answer.
That scene is my favourite thing in Loeb's Superman/Batman arc - I don't remember where the mainstream Legion of Super-Heroes was at the time, but I remember thinking that I wouldn't mind reading more about this version of things.
During the Adventure, two different lists of the permanent members of the Legion Espionage Squad were given in two different letter columns, in response to reader questions. These lists differed in that one member mentioned in the first list was replaced by another member in the second list.
Name the Legionnare who was dropped, and the replacement.
Saturn Girl dropped for Duo Damsel
Got it right off the bat.
Groovy! When I first read the Legion, I began with issues of Adventure and remember the letters page explaining Saturn Girl was in the Espionage Squad, which has always fascinated me. Duo Damsel was a lucky guess influenced by the fact that I knew she was in it later in the reboot.
Er, now I have to come up with a question. Jillikers.
Scott Taylor of Portland, TX created which groovy Legion character?
Nailed it
Blast, picked the wrong one. I knew it was one of that gang from LSH # 272/283.
I knew it was one or the other just glad you picked the other one.
King Leon was the deposed ruler of which planet?
Darn that was quick! You are right of course. Your go.
Well, I had all this pent-up energy in me from last time.
Which Legionnaire can catch a cold by submerging his/herself in chilly water for a while?
For how long did Computo the Conqueror restore Bouncing Boy's power, and for how long did that extend the time until Saturn Girl's execution?
30 min. & 5 min.
30 minutes is right, but while a five minute period plays a role in the answer to the second part, it's not the whole of the answer.
Hint:
So, the basic idea here is that Computo says, "Saturn Girl will die in N minutes".
He then restores Bouncing Boy's powers for 30 minutes to let him try to save her, and at the end of that period gives Saturn Girl five minutes to live. So, he gives her 35 minutes total. So, how much longer is the 35 minutes than the original N minutes she was given to live?
20 minutes as he originally gave Saturn Girl 15 minutes to live
Which super team was involved with the Global Grace Foundation?
What was the name used by the person who had a letter printed in the Legion Outpost (during the ADVENTURE era) by claiming to be a citizen of the 30th Century?
No guesses? OK time for a new question.
The name given for the letter writer was Gor Bismari
New Question: What three Legionnaires have been physically merged with intangible natives of Bgztl?
Ultra Boy, Sun Boy, Element Lad?
Karate Kid, Brainiac 5, Saturn Girl?
X-ben got two.
Hint: The first incident occurred before Tinya brother, Gmya "eclipsed" Sun Boy, and was the only time both parties were knowing participants.
Sounds like that first incident was some sort of espionage action. I thought maybe it was from the second Universo story, but after checking it out that doesn't seem to be correct.
Chameleon Boy? Was that when he pulled "Soljer"'s phantom knife out of Tinya's body?
Cham didn't really "merge" with Tinya, he just removed the blade.
Hint: Tinya did slip within another Legionnaire's form but it was not part of a mission, but rather a survival tactic...
Sun Boy, Element Lad and Superboy?
Ultra Boy, Sun Boy and Superboy?
Ultra Boy, Sun Boy and Luornu
(Hmmm ... no one has mentioned Lightning Lad (see: the second story in Superboy 201))
Ultra Boy, Sun Boy, and Lightning Lad?
X-Ben, Stuorstew, and BRM each have two.
No one has gotten all three yet...
Sun Boy, Element Lad & Lightning Lad
Sun Boy, Lightning Lad, and Ultra Boy (if one counts the reboot)
Sun Boy, Ultra Boy, Superboy
I guessed that combo already, Xben.
Based on the last hint, it seems Cobie must have it.
Colbaltus has it, and gets to provide the next question.
Didn't Apparition merge with Ultra Boy during that period when she was believed to be dead at the hands of a White Triangle Daxamite during the reboot? Or am I mis-remembering it?
Her spirit may have, however, her physical body was charred, but basically intact--and therefore not the kind of "merge" germane to the question.
Well, I didn't really know the answer but just did some guess-work based on others. So, standing on the shoulders of the rest of Legion World, I got it right
.
Unfortunately I now have to come up with a question that won't be guessed in 15 seconds which is hard as hell for you guys! Here it is:
Which enemy of the Legion once had an undersea base in the Sea of Ornal?
I'll post something tomorrow.
What British character has seen the Legion in their own era?
not that I'm aware of. It was a DC character.
that wasn't who I was thinking of, but it certainly is correct.
Go ahead, Chaim!
Who is the only member of the original Fatal Five who has never been seen in an adventure without the rest of the team?
I thought they all had? Unless you're discounting cameos.
In that case, I'd say Validus, but he appeared in the Annual and Great Darkness.
For the hell of it, a little round-up:
Tharok battled Mon-El in the reboot on his own but if you're not counting the reboot that will work.
Mano had his reboot origin story and TMK sequence.
The Persauder and the Empress each had notable solo stories.
Yeah, I'm puzzled as to what counts.
Does the entire rest of the team have to appear? If not, you've got Tharok and Validus together without the other three in at least one story.
yeah, I assumes the original 5 characters in any version, but then I started to wonder. not clear.
Hmm...the answer I had meant was Tharok, but I'd forgotten about him and M'Onel in Legion Worlds # 1. The issue with him and Validus I thought of as a "team" appearance, but true, it wasn't the whole team. I guess I phrased it badly.
So let me ask a clearer one: in the pre-boot, what item of clothing does Phantom Girl wear that is from Bgztl?
Her belt which was a gift from, I think, her mother
Correct, it was the belt.
Your turn, stu.
Sorry about the delay I had forgotten it was my go. But here goes:
Teams of Legionnaires teamed up with Mordru, Universo and the Fatal Five to battle which villain?
Darn I thought that one may have lasted at least a day, I underestimated you all again!
Your go.
Which member of the Wanderers was shown romancing a member of the opposite sex?
Blacula is correct, though at the time he was using the name Aviax.
Opposite sex, not necessarily of his true species.
Oh Gosh - I wasn't expecting to get that right.
OK here's one -
Which Legionnaire (other than any of the Super-ones) was once considered for membership in the Justice League of America? (Bonus points for telling me where.)
Karate Kid, on the cover of Brad Meltzer's JLA # 1?
Was that on the cover - or just in a piece of promotional art?
I thought the promotional art was also the cover, but I could be wrong. I don't own the issue.
It was the promotional piece but also ended up being one of the (many) alternate covers to issue #1 - though funnily enough his spot gets taken by Blue Beetle on a bunch of them too.
http://www.comics.org/issue/301169/cover/4/?style=default Weird.
Anyway, your question CMK.
Why was Karate Kid on Mercury immediately after the Earthwar ended?
to cure his friend (iris jacobs, I think was her name)) of being the transformed Diamondeth.
Correct, Kent. And you got the name right too.
I answered off of memory, then double-checked the spellings on google. Didn't have to go back and edit.
What Legionnaire once celebrated an 18th-and-a-half birthday?
EDE has it! from the early 70s back-up story days.
What Legion villain shares a name with a planet once visited by a Legionnaire?
While the name Thora has been used twice in Legion history, both times it was used for a person!
So not the correct answer!
Saturn Queen seems too obvious, but I'm guessing it anyway.
No. I don't mean that they have the name of a planet incorporated into their name, ala Saturn Queen or Earth Man, but that their name is literally the same as that of a planet. So, if there were a planet named "Thora", that would be correct.
The character in question also apparently has no connection to the planet in question.
There was a villian who fought Karate Kid and Ferro in Legion Worlds called "Nadir" which was also the name of the medieval planet on which Chameleon Boy met Princess Elwinda late in the Adventure run.
OK, staying with the "Name's the Same" category, which geographic feature of pre-crisis Krypton shares its name with the homeworld of a Legionnaire?
Right you are. Next question to Krypton Kid.
Which Legionnaires discovered Luthor's lair in the sewer?
Karate Kid, Sun Boy and Shrinking Violet?
Karate Kid and Shrinking Violet are correct, but there were 6 others.
Invisible Kid, Chameleon Boy, Duo Damsel, Phantom Girl, Colossal Boy, and Matter-Eater Lad? Some of those are guesses, some I'm pretty sure about.
Uh, plus Karate Kid and Shrinking Violet, of course.
Brainy, Thom, DD, PG, Cham, Vi, KK and Lyle as leader.
Duo Damsel, Colossal Boy, and Tenz were very busy elsewhere, and were not present.
So that would make it Karate Kid, Shrinking Violet, Star Boy, Phantom Girl, Chameleon Boy, Brainiac 5, Invisible Kid, and one other...I'll guess Shadow Lass?
Brainy, Karate Kid, Invisible Kid, Chameleon Boy, Star Boy, Phantom Girl and Shrinking Violet
Originally posted by stuorstew:

Oops forgot one and messed that up!
Very close, Xben. Shadow Lass wasn't a member yet, but Bouncing Boy was. At that point in the Universo two-parter Supergirl had returned to the 20th century, four Legionnaires were in jail, and the rest in prison on Takron-Galtos.
And it's stuorstew's lead.
Which Legionnaire(s) attended the wedding of Supergirl and Superman?
Cosmic Boy
Saturn Girl
Lightning Lad
Brainiac 5
Mon-El
Not the answer I was looking for but is very specific so leads me to believe there was a Superman Supergirl wedding I have missed somewhere so I will have to go check.
Stu, don't go to all that trouble as I really didn't have any story in mind. I was wildly guessing (again).
Also a wild guess -
Sun Boy
Triplicate Girl
Lightning Lad
Saturn Girl
Phantom Girl
Brainiac 5
Phew! In that case I think I can safely say no to both guesses.
Stew, after over a week, I think it is safe to assume no one is going to get this one. Can we find a way to move on, please?
Thank you!
Sorry about that.
If anybody is interested it was Colossal Boy and Superboy in Supergirl 79.
Presumably it is still my go so I will try and make this a bit easier to move things on.
In the Reboot Aylas powers were changed during a tie-in with which company wide crossover?
Phil Collins.
Gah! Please do not say that!
But yes your go.
Was he one of the members of "The Devil's Jury"?
Not having read "The Devil's Jury" story I just looked it up to see if there was a Golgo in it... and there isn't.
However there is a Golgro. And he's listed as an assassin - which is the same description used for the Golgo I'm asking about.
I'm now wondering if the (later) issue I'm getting the mention of him from is a mis-print and they're meant to be the same guy?
Since I've given away part of the answer (which is that he's an assassin, and a villain obviously) I'll convert the question slightly and ask -
Who captured Golgo/Golgro?

Once did a fanfic where they were Winithian twins.
It was Grimbor.
That's a cool idea Korbal! I'd like to see some of these minor villains from the Legion's history dusted off and fleshed out a bit and that's a great start.
And yes, it was Grimbor who "tethered" him according to Charma in S&LSH #221.
Over to you.
Who was once slated to be executed on the planet Bismari?
Keeping with Validus trivia, in the reboot Validus was, according to President Chu, a bio-weapon designed to battle the Sun-Eater. What planet is supposed to have developed him for that purpose?
No guesses?
Hint: The planet was also the setting of an important event in the career of a female Legionnaire in the preboot.
This is in the back of my mind but for some reason I keep wanting to say the Athramites' planet even though I know it's not that one.
Not Athram.
Hint #2: A ruler from the planet is also a high ranking official in the United Planets in the preboot.
Pansic or Pasnic or however you spell the planet I confuse with Angtu. I think I spelled that one wrong, too...
Also, I don't remember what Pasnic has to do with a female Legionnaire, but King Jonn was from there. Right?
Pasnic it is.
Pasnic was named for Nick Pascale, designer of Lu's first split orange/purple costume, and it was also the planet on which the costume debuted in a memorable action backup where she stopped a civil war.
Wow. I had absolutely no confidence in that answer. I am on vaction in Vegas and dead tired, but yeah for me.
When the Legion briefly had leaders serve for six month terms, which Legionnaire served for only one of the half-terms?
Karate Kid is it. Both Ultra Boy and Mon-El served two non-consecutive 6-mo. terms.
CMK- hit me!
What villain did Roon Dvron let escape in his first appearance?
That is correct. Your question, EDE.
Where was Starfinger captured in the original Starfinger story?
Nope.
Just to clarify, by "Starfinger" I mean Lars Hanscom, not Lightning Lad.
Inside the Metropolis Fusion Powersphere
As a precursor to Legion Leader Elections, Mon-El won the Favorite Legionnaire Poll held by the Legion Outpost in ADVENTURE COMICS during the mid 60's, who came in second--losing by a mere single vote?
Quislet?? no that isn't right. IF Quislet had been in the voting, he would have gotten first place.
Saturn Girl?
I think stuorstew has it, but: Sun Boy?

The Legionnaire in question has not been correctly guessed yet...
Kent is correct, it was Garth--Phantom Girl got the most votes among the girls.
As soon as I saw that Kent had posted that, I was pretty sure he was right.
Mon-El also received the first vote of the contest.
Dear Editor: How about taking a popularity poll to see which Legionnaires are the best-liked? it would be very interesting to see which ones are the readers' favorites. I suggest you leave out Superboy and Supergirl, since they have their own strips. I'll cast my vote for Mon-El right now. -Steve Rosenbery, New York, N.Y.
(How about it, readers? Which of the Super-heroes are your favorites and why? We'll print the best answers in The Legion Outpost, if they are written on a postal card in less than fifty words. Ed.)
I figured it must pre-date the first fan election, so it would have come during Imra's run as leader... and Garth's fairly recent noble sacrifice, death and return probably boosted his ratings.
anywho...
I'll be back with a new Q soon.
Actually, Kent, the first fan election took place very late in the Adventure run. There had been a few leaders after Imra, and Garth's popularity had nothing to do with the whole Zaryan story.
my mistaken assumption, then. dumb luck.
New Q:
What do Blok and Brainiac 5 have as a commonality that would still be true regardless of their Legion careers?
The names of their home planets have been changed?
basically, that's it. I was going for just the 2 names aspect.
Yod/Colu and Korlon/Dryad.
your question, counsellor.
Who was Karate Kid's deputy leader?
Yup. I figured the first person to respond would get it. I have no good Legion trivia questions.
probably another easy one:
who predicted an earthquake at the Grand Canyon?
We interrupt this thread to point out to Chaim that it's his turn in Non-Legion Trivia
a couple of threads down.
Thank you for your time
Brainiac 5 - in one of those horrible 70s issues. Utterly forgettable story, so it is no wonder no one else has got it.
Lance has it!
First the Legion commandeers an amusement park that hovers over the GC, to use its holo-systems to cure B5. Then, the SPs show up to arrest them, and B5 conveniently covers for them, that they had to seize/evacuate the park in order to deal with the impending quake.
go, Lance!
Ok, here we go:
Where did Supergirl eat Martian ice cream?
Mars?
Nope - and I am looking for the name of the establishment, not a planet.
prob too obvious, but...
Nine Planets Ice Cream Parlor?
That's it Kent. Same place Superboy went, and they both tried Martian ice cream. You're up!
okay, another easy one: What do Superboy, Karate Kid, Invisible Kid, Leviathan and Kid Quantum have in common?
The name was used by two distinct Legionnaires?
Chaim has what I was looking for.
Stuorstew is correct, but Chaim's answer is better, because other Legionnaires have also died beyond that set, while Chaim's answer is uniquely specific to the five.
go, Chaim!
Who was the Legion leader that was attacked and incapacitated by Validus?
Why did the 30th century criminal Kasmir once seek Jimmy Olsen's help?
Hint: He visited Jimmy after stealing a time-bubble.
He wanted to learn how to contact Superman and/or Supergirl?
Nope. Though he did want to learn something!
How to get Elastic-Lad powers?
He just needed Jimmy to operate the time bubble - which makes me wonder how he stole it in the first place.
Lance has it. He stole the time bubble, which was already set to automatically travel to Superman's time, but he needed Jimmy's help to navigate where he he wanted to go.
Actually, Eryk, I had to do a little online reasearch to get that one. The question had been on the floor for awhile, so I hope that's ok. (I usually put a self-imposed 48-hour restriction on using search engines; if no one has gotten it by then, I figure it's ok to do some research.)
Anyway, next question...
Who once hijacked the Trevis building?
Nope, but the villain in question was a regular villain who made his debut in the Adventure run.
Eryk, I don't know if you guessed correctly, or picked up on my subtle clue. Still, the next Question is yours.
Oh, yeah, Dr. Regulus vowed to return in that story (Adv. 348) but we never saw him again in the Silver Age.
I was actually just guessing based on the fact that hijacking buildings was DR's m.o. in that first story!
On which Legion homeworld was an election once decided by one vote?
Originally posted by Lance's realm:

Back to you, Lance.
From the Mantis Morlo story, a candidate wins an election 1-0. Naltor has very low voter participation, since most people foresee the outcome.
I remembered the scene, but I had no idea what issue it was from.
Ok, off we go...
Who was Dane Roberts?
An "aquaintance" of Jeckie's who conveniently stepped in to attend a weekend party thrown by Janice Warren after her original date, Chameleon Boy, overheard their hostess express her unflattering impression of the Legionnaire...
Um, actually, Korbal, you aren't giving quite the answer I am looking for, although everything you have said is correct.
Too subtle? Okay, Dane was really Reep.
That's what I was looking for. I assumed you knew the correct answer, but I wanted it spelled out.
Your Question, Korbal!
During the events of New Krypton, what secret personal request did Lois Lane ask Mon-El to do?
I think Lance has it but will say Winath just in case
stuorstew, I think you're a page behind the times.
What!? I got it again when I wasn't even guessing? I am so good...
Nope.
Hint: The task took place within a cemetery.
Tell the world what a creep her father was?
Count her fathers corpses teeth?
Yup, and from the fact that there were 32 instead of 28, Lois knew that her father was not in his grave.
You're up, stew.
Um, just out of curiosity, where was her father?
^He was supposed to be buried after dying at the end of Our Worlds at War but was in fact not dead and planning to destroy New Krypton.
Who were Frances and Carole Campbell?
Gemini's parents? (Aria & Coda)
Luornu's aliases when visiting Smallville?
Yep KryptonLSH has it.
Your go.
I remember Darkseid talking down to him, but I don't think we ever saw her. IIRC, Frances spoke to his dead wife for emotional support.
When the Legion was called upon to escort a Dominion delagation to Earth what route did they take (that has never been used since)?
Didn't they go through the 10th dimension or something?
the 'Frances' threw me off - i thought it was 2 women we were discussing. Shouldn't it have been 'Francis?'
for K-LSH's Q, yes, they did take some sort of extradimensional route, as I recall.
EDE, they did go through the 10th Dimension, a method they abandoned for some reason. Too many rockslides, I suppose.
Now I'm eager for Ester's inquiry.
I think they did reuse it (or at least another Dominator subdimensional route) in the v3 New Subs annual. But it is strange that it didn't become a more standard part of LSH lore.
I'll have to think of a good question!
Oh crap! I'd forgotten it was my turn! Er... new question later today.
Okay, how about this:
Name two planets which the Legionnaires landed on while hiding in a hollowed out asteroid.
Which two Legionnaires have some connection to kangobroncs?
Saturn Girl is certainly one, since she rode one in "The Great Proty Puzzle." (I think.) The other is...um...Cham?
Imra is correct, but not the other.
Hint: the other Legionnaire's connection is actually through his/her father.
Imra and Tenz? (Ral Kem betting on the races?)
That's who I was thinking of. Yours, Korbal.
From what world did Bouncing Boy possess a relic with which he (allegedly)could claim the Kingship of?
Crud..I KNOW what story this is from. If no one gets it soon, I'll go dig it out.
Is it Nadir? I know that was the world in the first Wanderers story, but I'm not sure whether there was any relic involved.
Suhuru...from the first Dream Girl story.
Crap! I ought to know this, but I can't remember the name of the planet at all!
Originally posted by lancesrealm:

Yup, Lance is correct. However, the fact that it was mentioned in a splash page may question whether or not it is canon, still, often wondered what Chuck did to get it, and if he spent some of his time after losing his powers on the throne of Suhuru...
Good point, Korbal. It might be interesting to see what would happen if Chuck decided to become their king. Although, if I had a foxy wife who could duplicate herself I might be too busy...
Ok, new question:
What Legionnaire once visited England in the year 693?
Wow! Right the first time! Gym visited old England in the Universo story in Adventure #349. You're up, KK!
Name six Legionnaires connected to the Daily Planet.
This might be a stretch, depending on the definitions of "Legionnaire" and "connected" but I can think of:
1. Superman (works there)
2. Elastic Lad (works there)
3. Insect Queen (I don't know what current continuity is, but back in the day she worked for Galaxy Communications, part of the same conglomerate as the Planet)
4. Devlin O'Ryan (works there)
5. XS (grandmother works there)
6. Supergirl (cousin works there)
I was leaning more toward Bart Allen, but Supergirl works. At some point Lana Lang was writing for the Planet's business section. Sometime ya just gotta say "K**** continuity!"
Give us a herd ball, Exnihil.
The wind up and... the pitch:
Who was once said to hail from the Planet Sua?
I have no idea what the answer is, but a "herd ball" sounds like something I'd like to see, at least once.

Correct. Although Proty II is traditionally said to hail from Antares II, on one occassion (a character guide in Batman #238) his home planet was listed as Sua.
Now, I suppose that since "Antares II" is presumedly just a descriptive name (second planet from the star Antares) there's no reason it couldn't
also be called "Sua," just that, with that one exception, it never was.
Next question to stuorstew.
Which organisation gave Imra a plaque for driving off Space Monsters with her mental powers?
I second guessed myself.. the only Saturn Girl plaque I remembered was the one from the Adult Legion Christmas party for "exceptionally loveliness", but when I double checked, sure enough, that was one of two in that story, the other being the one to which you're referring... given by the "Science Council".
Keeping with the Christmas theme:
The Legion has now been twice featured in a Holiday special. Of the other headlining characters having stories in same issues, which one character has also appeared in both?
Well, that took no time at all.
Correct, and next question to Chaim.
What are the stakes in the tough pool hall that Ultra Boys takes his two "wanna-be tough" teammates to?
Correct - that was quick.
Who could forget Sprouse drawing toughs in a shady bar? Adorable!
What were the odds against Salu, Brin, and Reep?
17:1 is correct!
Yours, K.E.N.T.
Okay then....
What are two known technological capabilities of the Llorn?
Space travel, and giving Proteans shape-changing abilities?
I as thinking of something a bit more specific and unique than 'space travel;' in any scifi comic that's basically a given. If I accept that as a 'technological capability,' then so might be 'food gathering.'
I'm looking for two things that stand out as differentiate the Llorn form everyone else, of which you've given one.
Kid Quantum's stasis belt was Llorn tech, as I recall.
The whole "Soul of Antares" stuff all involved Llorn tech, too.
A fairly recent retcon (during the Lightning Saga) also stated that the Duralim wand process for restoring life was Llorn-tech.
EDE got 2 of the 3 I was thinking of (along with Chaim's one), and Exxy named a 4th I didn't realize.
But EDE got there first. His turn!
What do the following Legionnaires have in common that distinguishes them from other (pre-Crisis) Legionnaires?
Lightning Lad
Colossal Boy
Star Boy
Sun Boy
Bouncing Boy
Ultra Boy
Lightning Lass
Wildfire
I don't think Ultra Boy ever lost his powers, did he?
Anyway, not what I was thinking of.
They all gained their powers through some sort of accident or as an unexpected result of something (Sun Boy wasn't an accident, exactly). Unless I've missed someone, everyone else got their powers because of the alien race they were part of or because they were a mutant, or because they went out and sought them (Invisible Kid, Karate Kid).
Surprising to see how few Legionairres got their powers that way, actually. I'll post a question soon.
I was originally going to ask the question based on the Legionnaires who had intentionally gained their abilities, which I realized was surprisingly few. Even most of them (Projectra, Shady, even Val arguably) gained their abilities at least in part because of birthright. As far as members who blatantly sought powers, the two Invisible Kids are probably the strongest examples.
OK, this is a two part question, based on hopefully reliable memory?
1. Why were Karate Kid, Sun Boy, Colossal Boy and Wildfire being honored in a ceremony presided by President Marte Allon?
2. According a later revelation/ret-con, what other Legionnaire should have been honored as well?
I don't know the story but based on the character list, I'd say:
1. Born on Earth
2. Later retcon would then make that honor also apply to Cosmic Boy.
That's exactly right! Very good for not knowing the story.
That story was a sequel to the "Colossal Failure" story from the Adventure days - it appeared in a DC Digest, and basically included a new framing story around a reprint of the Adventure Comics tale.
I think Cosmic Boy's heritage was revealed in his miniseries? Was it ever mentioned anywhere else?
2. Wasn't XS born on Earth before her family escaped to Earth-247 or subsequently, Aarak-247?
Xben:
I think Cosmic Boy's heritage was revealed in his miniseries? Was it ever mentioned anywhere else?
I think it was mentioned in LSH # 296-297, in which Rokk's mother gets killed.
OK, this next one is about as obscure as it comes for Legion trivia (and I just learned it tonight!)
So, earlier tonight I watched the second Beatles film, "Help!" and, at one point, there is a scene of Paul McCartney playing an organ. Instead of sheet music, however, he has a selection of 60's DC comics (Superman, Action, and Jimmy Olsen).
The question is this: Apart from members of the "Superman Family", i.e. Superman, Supergirl, or Jimmy, which other Legionnaire appears on the cover of one of Paul's comics?
Hint: It's a bit of a trick question and the answer is a spoiler for the story contained in the issue.
I guess XS could qualify as a muuuch later retcon, but the difference is she wasn't a member at the time of the first story.
For the current question, I am going to guess Chameleon Boy, because of the "spoiler" hint (maybe he's in disguise as somebody else)
It is indeed Saturn Girl (or rather Saturn
Woman, but close enough for government work).
Among the comics that McCartney has on his organ is Superman 165, which features Saturn Woman disguised as the sorceress, Circe (and Proty II disguised as Superman's head!)
HERE is a nice bit of investigation about the comics in the movie, with screenshots, and
HERE is the issue summary, with panels of the big reveal.
Next question to stuorstew.
Wow! Talk about trivia that is really trivial! I love it! More!
On a visit to New Themyscira several Legionnaires were turned into what creature?
Kangas would have been cool but no. Nor was it Cerberus which is also a better answer
Funny thing is, I don't remember such a story. It must have been recent (if the island was called Themiscyra) but I totally don't remember it. I just guessed pigs because that's what Circe turned Ulysses's men into.
New question: What type of science is very under-developed on Colu? (pre-boot reference)

It's from the Legion in the 31st Century series.
Oh, that's the one based on the cartoon, right? I never did get around to buying that one.

You should give it a go as it is excellent
Zymology? (Coluans are total lightweights during Klordny
)
KK is close enough, so I'll give it to him. It says in LSH # 55 (Levitz series) that Colu has practically zero development in the social sciences.
What three things did the "Time-Trapper" give to Glorith to help her enact his evil schemes?
Er... the hourglass, the gloves to protect her from the hourglass, and the force field ring?
Why, yes.
Wow! I actually had no idea, I was just posting items I remembered being in the story!
Next question:
Endor was the prince of which Legionnaire homeworld, and which Legion character once saved his life?
I think I know this, I'm just waffling because of the phrase "Legionnaire homeworld".
Anyway, are you looking for Zerox and Comet, the Superhorse?
Yeah, that's it. I was a little hesitant about using the term "homeworld" myself (I think it's sometime listed as such, however), but I couldn't figure out a way to qualify it without making it obvious.
Which relative of a Legionnaire had only one actual Pre-Crisis appearance... and even that was both out of continuity and published after the Crisis itself was over?
Was is Chameleon Boy's twin brother, Liggt?
No, Liggt was a Post-Crisis character all the way.
Was it Chameleon Boy's mother, Zhay?
Salkor, husband of Supergirl?
Originally posted by Exnihil:

Enya Wazzo?
Enya was definitely a Post-Crisis character; I'm pretty sure Zhay appeared Pre-Crisis (Secrets of the Legion?) but that appearance would have been in-continuity; Salkor is a good guess, but that story was in January 1986, and the Crisis was still ongoing until March.
It's a pretty tricky question, the key word being "actual". As a hint, I will say that EDE at least got the century correct with his guess.
Was it Chameleon Boy's great-great-uncle, Odo?
Is that a "Star Trek" thing?
OK, the more I think about this question, the more I think I need to clarify the intent. The timeline lays out like this:
1. Pre-Crisis, this character "sort of" has a few appearances... but not actually (you'll understand once the answer is given).
2. The Crisis on Infinite Earths series runs in its entirety.
3.
After the Crisis series is over, this character has their first actual appearance... in a story that clearly takes place in a Pre-Crisis continuity... but is also explicitly stated as taking place
outside of regular DC continuity.
4. Post-Crisis (both in publishing order and in continuity) this character appears quite a few times.
Clear as mud.
Supergirl in Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?
No one's got it yet... but EDE is on the right track.
No and no.
To recap, the original question was:
Which relative of a Legionnaire had only one actual Pre-Crisis appearance... and even that was both out of continuity and published after the Crisis itself was over?
Some additional clarification was given:
The timeline lays out like this:
1. Pre-Crisis, this character "sort of" has a few appearances... but not actually (you'll understand once the answer is given).
2. The Crisis on Infinite Earths series runs in its entirety.
3. After the Crisis series is over, this character has their first actual appearance... in a story that clearly takes place in a Pre-Crisis continuity... but is also explicitly stated as taking place outside of regular DC continuity.
4. Post-Crisis (both in publishing order and in continuity) this character appears quite a few times.
and, through the guesses, we've learned that this character was in the 20th century and that "Vril Dox", although not the correct character, is, as a guess, "on the right track".
Originally posted by Xben:
Lydea Mallor
Goshdarnit, I wish I'd've thought of that!
Yay! Yup, Lydea Mallor it was.
Pre-Crisis proper Lydea never actually appeared in a story. Sure, her clone was one of the Servants of Darkness, but we had never actually met the real Lydea.
Until 1986.
While the Crisis was going on there was another 12 issue maxiseries running called "The DC Challenge". The idea was a round-robin story written by twelve different authors. One writer would write the first issue, leaving it on a cliffhanger, to be solved by the next writer, and so on for twelve issues.
The problem with this is that it required tremendous lead time to actually write, because in order for, say, writer #7 to produce something reasonably consistent, he would have had to have read the previous six scripts. As a result, this project had been in the works for two years prior to the first issue hitting the stands, i.e. well before the Crisis had started.
So, once it was published, what you had was a story clearly taking place in a Pre-Crisis continuity (multiple earths, a Wonder Woman who had been around for years, Kara Zor-El alive and kicking) but after the Crisis itself had rendered that continuity passe. As a way of placating the annoyed letter writers who were completely befuddled, the editor just replied that this story took place outside of regular continuity.
Anyway, within the story (which contained everybody from Bwana Beast, to the Space Cabby, to Woozy Winks, to Albert Einstein) at one point, Superman travels to 20th century Talok VIII to enlist the aid of Shadow Lass's ancestor, Lydea Mallor. She appears for only about 5 panels but, for all intents and purposes, this was her only Pre-Crisis appearance.
Post Crisis, of course, Lydea was a member of L.E.G.I.O.N., and had quite a few appearances.
Whew.
Next question to Xben.
Thanks - I'll think of something as soon as I can.
I guessed Lydea from the clues that were given - figured it must be a 20th Century ancestor to a Legionnaire, and Lydea was the obvious choice (after Vril Dox, anyway). I was reading about her to see if she had any pre-crises appearance, and was reminded of the Great Darkness Saga. I had no idea about DC Challenge, though. Did she look the same as her LEGION appearance?
OK, who was the last active member of the reboot (aka "mid-boot"?) LSH to die in the line of duty before Mark Waid's "Threeboot" began?
Originally posted by Xben:

No, but she did get the honor of some nifty Curt Swan artwork:
From my interpretation, I'd say that EDE has the answer. Element Lad died afterward, but I think he could hardly be considered to be an "active member" at that point. I was hoping someone would guess Live Wire, who also died (although later revived) at the same time, but resigned from the Legion moments beforehand.
That's the reasoning I went through, Xben!
I don't remember DC Challenge at all! Sounds like kind of an interesting series though!
I kept trying to think of Lar Gand relatives it might be!
I have a few issues of DC Challenge but haven't read it ages - it's one of those books I keep thinking about completing via ebay or whatever. It was a hilarious idea - I don't know how readable it is now.
It was an interesting idea.... but extremely poorly executed. The creators clearly had a ball.... but it was just too all-over-the-place, and attempts to rein it in later in the run were too little, too late.
It really would have worked better with more starting parameters, rather than a cast-of-thousands running around all over the place pursuing a zillion story threads (that can't really be called plots).
<span style="font-size: 10px;">Eryk... I think you're up...</span>
Er... new question coming soon!
Well I'll go with this one...
Moonbats are native to what planet?
Kent has it!
Moonbats made an appearance in the v3 annual featuring the new Legion of Substitute-Heroes.
didn't even remember that. Just an intuitive guess.
I'll post something new tomorrow.
What did Tinya, Lar and Kal-El (at one point or another) have in common with reboot-era Garth's mom, that most other Legionnaires presumably did not?
Um...they all ran afoul of Vril Dox? Er...they all battled Khunds in the 20th Century? OK, I can think of a lot of things that the three legionnaires had in common, but I don't remember anything about Garth's mom, in any boot. But I'm suspicious of the fact that you referred to the Legionnaires by their given names, and the fact that they all lived in the 20th Century for an extended chunk of time.
Stab in the dark based on the Legionnaires (again, I don't know anything about Mrs. Ranzz) but did they all, at some point, travel to the Phantom Zone (Buffer Zone, Stasis Zone, whatever it was called at the time)?
nope times three (at least I'm not aware of any of their handedness; it's not what I'm looking for).
Xben, first, I tend to refer to them by real names. secondly, it is more about them as people than codenames/identities/heroics.
They all have lookalike relatives?
Oh - that's good! I bet that's it!
that's it, KK!
Kal had at least two identical cousins, Van-Zee and one guy who was nuts. Lar had Eltro. Tinya had Phase (who, right before Zero Hour, was Tinya's cousin, not Tinya herself), and Mrs. Ranzz's sister, as we saw in Legion Worlds 2, was an identical twin.
go, KK!
In the Supergirl movie, where does Argo City move to in order to survive an onslaught of meteors?
I suspect this question will last a long time. Those of us who have seen the movie have tried very hard to forget it.
Is it the Phantom Zone? I know they go there in the movie, although I didn't think it was all of Argo City...
"The Survival Zone"
Phantom Zone is close enough, I suppose, as my question doesn't appear to have merit.
Go ahead, Xben.
sorry, KK. It would be a great place to mine for trivia, if it had acquired even a smidgeon more appreciation.
Was Phantom Zone not the actual answer? What was?
OK, here is my question:
In the reboot continuity, Legion readers were treated to many familiar aspects of Legion Lore that were now adjusted, or re-imagined, in various ways. For example, we still had flight rings, but now Lyle had invented them instead of Brainy. Or we still had Proteans, but now they were a side effect of Dr. Mantis Morlo's experiments (I think), and Morlo himself was a big bug, etc.
So the question is: Reboot-era Mekt Ranzz could be considered to be the reboot version of what original-continuity aspect of Legion Lore? (Other than Lightning Lord, of course)
I hope that makes sense. A long time ago I had a similar question about President Chu - she could be considered to specifically be the reboot version of a particular preboot aspect of Legion lore. I don't know if I posted that question here, years ago - so I'll throw it out as a bonus question.
The Super Moby-Dick of Space?
KK, I didn't mean to imply that your question didn't have merit. I was just stating that the movie (IMHO) was pretty awful.
I don't want to discourage anyone from mining outside the regular series for Legion minutae. I love the endless trivia that this thread has quizzed us about!
CMK - that is correct. Both were responsible for Garth losing his arm.
Any guesses on the bonus question?
Either way, you've got it - go ahead.
Chu was like the Sun Eater in bringing together the Fatal Five
-she was like Starfinger in brainwashing one of the gang into being a surrogate villain with various finger powers
-she was like Universo in his 2nd appearance in being a villainous prez the LSH had to work against
You could argue all of those, I suppose, but Lars Hanscom aka Starfinger, is the one I had in mind.
I think I recall you asking that several years ago.
Lori Lemaris is implied to be descended from what figure in the distant past?
Who lived next door to Elza Perkins?
Thanks, Ex. As soon as I read the question, I knew I recognized the name, but couldn't place it. You saved me a small amount of mental anguish. Your check is in the mail.
Anguish-saving Ex is correct.
Mrs. Perkins was the neighbor who claimed not to be a busybody, yet who provided the Legion with information leading them to realize that Colossal Boy's parents had been kidnapped (Adventure # 372).

Reep Daggle learned R.J. Brande was his father after R.J. contracted a rare case of Yorggian Fever.

Brainiac 5, Dream Girl, Element Lad, Light Lass, Mon-El, Phantom Girl, Princess Projectra, Star Boy, or Ultra Boy
Brainiac 5 is correct, but Mon-el isn't. At least according to the source material in question.
So the remaining candidates are: Dream Girl, Element Lad, Light Lass, Phantom Girl, Princess Projectra, Star Boy, or Ultra Boy
I'll give the next turn to whoever can give me both Legionnaires. Blacula, feel free to guess again!
The question again for the new page: Which two of the following Legionnaires' races are known to have had cases of Yorggian Fever?
Brainiac 5 and...
Dream Girl, Element Lad, Light Lass, Phantom Girl, Princess Projectra, Star Boy, or Ultra Boy
Braniac 5 and Phantom Girl
Brainiac 5 & Princess Projectra (she's always getting sick)
pretty sure it was Light Lass, but I'll guess:
Element Lad (and Brainy, of course)
EDE is correct!
Brainiac 5 and Light Lass (or Coluans and Winathians) are the two I was looking for. Alongside five other species (Braalians, Durlans, Earthlings, Imskians, and Talokians), they were the only races to have had known cases of Yorggian Fever. This is all per Secrets of the Legion of Super-Heroes #3!
Your go, Eryk.
By my count, there are 40 Legionnaires depicted on the final splash page of Superboy's Legion. However, five of those are not depicted clearly enough for their identities to be confirmed.
Name the 35 members who are definitely depicted as part of the team on this page.
OK. I'm probably going to miss a few but I'll get the ball rolling -
From a long time ago's memory...
1. Cosmic Boy (minus an arm)
2. Saturn Girl
3. Lightning Lad
4. Ultra Boy
5. Phantom Girl
6. Triplicate Girl
7. Brainiac 5
8. Invisible Kid I
9. Chameleon Boy
10. Star Boy
11. Dream Girl
12. Mon-el
13. Shadow Lass
14. Wildfire
15. Dawnstar
16. Princess Projectra
17. Light Lass
18. Karate Kid
19. Ferro Lad
20. Bouncing Boy
21. Sun Boy
22. Shrinking Violet
23. Timber Wolf
24. Chemical King
25. Blok
26. Superboy
27. Invisible Kid II
28. Tyroc
29. Tellus
30. Quislet
31. Polar Boy
32. Magnetic Kid
33. Kid Quantum I
34. Matter-Eater Lad
35. Supergirl
and in my dreams
36. Colossal Boy
I believe you have six incorrect (plus the fact that Cos is apparently no longer missing his arm by the time of this shot).
Some slightly wild guesses (except for the Superboy/Mon-El correction, which I'm pretty sure of)
1. Cosmic Boy
2. Saturn Girl
3. Lightning Lad
4. Triplicate Girl
5. Phantom Girl
6. Chameleon Boy
7. Invisible Kid I
8. Braniac 5
9. Superboy / Mon-El
10. Sun Boy
11. Shrinking Violet
12. Bouncing Boy
13. Matter-Eater Lad
14. Ultra Boy
15. Star Boy
16. Element Lad
17. Light Lass
18. Dream Girl
19. Karate Kid
20. Princess Projectra
21. Ferro Lad

28. Blok
29. Kinetix
30. White Witch
31. Tellus
32. Gates
33. Polar Boy
34. Quislet
35. XS
Superboy adopts the name "Kal-El" and a version of Mon-El's costume at the end of the story! Good memory! (I'd forgotten until I looked at the panel for the question).
I believe you still have five wrong, though.
I'll take a crack at this. I actually read this about two weeks ago for some Micro Heroes stuff so it's fresh on my mind.
01. Cosmic Boy
02. Saturn Girl
03. Lightning Lad
04. Phantom Girl
05. Triplicate Girl
06. Chameleon
07. Invisible Kid
08. Brainiac 5
09. Kal-El
10. Star Boy
11. Sun Boy
12. Ultra Boy
13. Bouncing Boy
14. Shrinking Violet
15. Matter-Eater Lad

20. Karate Kid
21. Nemesis Kid
22. Sensor
23. Shadow Lass
24. Chemical King
25. Timber Wolf
26. Wildfire
27. Dawnstar
28. Tyroc
29. Blok
30. White Witch
31. Tellus
32. Gates
33. Monstress
34. Thunder
35. Slipstream (the what the heck inclusion)
I felt like Comet Queen was in there, too. But the more I thought about it the more I couldn't picture her in that story or by the smashing Alan Davis. So she's my 36th guess if I had one.
I believe you've got them all Future. One of the unidentifieds is a possible Comet Queen, so that might be what you were thinking of.
For the record, I had as unidentifieds the following:
1. Faceless fellow in purple behind Chuck.
2. Alien looking character behind Nemesis Kid (Comet Queen?).
3. Indistinguishible character on other side of Wildfire.
4. Blob looking thing next to Chameleon Boy (Proty? Membrain?)
5. Fish/Dolphin/Whale looking creature next to Ferro Lad.
I think you could make a good case that #4 is Proty

Got'cha! Yeah, I think so too. I also remember that little blob creature and wasn't sure if it was supposed to be Proty, Quislet, or someone else. The female by Wildfire in the back with her long hair I always felt could be Andromeda. Have to love waxing about "what could have been" on a team of Legionnaires who are already 35+.
Inspired by EDE, let's shift gears to another Legion who had impressive numbers: the Legion of Earth-22, Kingdom Come! Though they've only made two panel appearances to date, I would absolutely love to get stories with this Legion. I've always been a fan of the SW6 designs and the membership was great.
Name the 31 Legionnaires who comprised the Legion of Kingdom Come.
Clue #1: In their first appearance, this Legion only had -30- members. A 31st was added in the issue of JSA they appeared in, though AOL chats back in the 90s revealed that Alex Ross had always meant to include this Legionnaire in the original panel - he had just neglected to for some reason. He paid homage to that fact by placing them in the rear of the JSA shot, as if they had always been flying on the tail of the team off-panel the first time.
Making a guess here. I am just using the original names when I guess we could never really know for sure (ie was it Lightning Lad or Live Wire, etc.) I wish I could remember if the Kryptonians were there or not.
1. Lightning Lad
2. Cosmic Boy
3. Saturn Girl
4. Phantom Girl
5. Triplicate Girl
6. Chameleon Boy
7. Invisible Kid
8. Colossal Boy
9. Star Boy
10. Ultra Boy
11. Braniac 5
12. Sun Boy
13. Shrinking Violet
14. Bouncing Boy
15. Matter-Eater Lad
16. Mon-El
17. Element Lad
18. Light Lass
19. Dream Girl
20. Karate Kid
21. Princess Projectra
22. Ferro Lad
23. Shadow Lass
24. Timber Wolf
25. Chemical King
26. Wildfire
27. Dawnstar
28. Tyroc
29. Polar Boy
30. White Witch
31. Blok
I'm pretty sure Blok was the "31st" member.
I'll try:
1. Lightning Lad
2. Cosmic Boy
3. Saturn Girl
4. Phantom Girl
5. Triplicate Girl
6. Chameleon Boy
7. Invisible Kid
8. Colossal Boy
9. Star Boy
10. Ultra Boy
11. Braniac 5
12. Sun Boy
13. Shrinking Violet
14. Bouncing Boy
15. Matter-Eater Lad
16. Mon-El
17. Element Lad
18. Light Lass
19. Dream Girl
20. Karate Kid
21. Princess Projectra
22. Ferro Lad
23. Shadow Lass
24. Timber Wolf
25. Chemical King
26. Wildfire
27. Dawnstar
28. XS
29. Superboy
30. Supergirl
31. Andromeda
It's true about the codenames never really being specified. To my knowledge the few Legionnaires that were namedropped by Alex Ross in interviews and sketches used their classic monikers, but most of those were Legionnaires who stuck with their original codenames anyway.
You're both close! XBen is off by six and EDE by two.
Clue #2: In addition to many traditional faces, this Legion included a postboot exclusive character as well as three who originated from the Glorithverse.
1. Lightning Lad
2. Cosmic Boy
3. Saturn Girl
4. Phantom Girl
5. Triplicate Girl
6. Chameleon Boy
7. Invisible Kid
8. Colossal Boy
9. Star Boy
10. Ultra Boy
11. Braniac 5
12. Sun Boy
13. Shrinking Violet
14. Bouncing Boy
15. Matter-Eater Lad
16. Mon-El
17. Element Lad
18. Light Lass
19. Dream Girl
20. Karate Kid
21. Princess Projectra
22. Computo
23. Shadow Lass
24. Timber Wolf
25. Kono
26. Wildfire
27. Dawnstar
28. XS
29. Superboy
30. Supergirl
31. Andromeda / Laurel Gand
I can't really imagine this is right but based on the clues, all four of the ones EDE had that I didn't must be right. So I've added two of the Glorith-verse characters I could remember and took a stab at it and removed some of the dead characters.
Oh crap! I just rememembered the basic formula, but I thought there should be one more character in it... Anyway, this has got to be pretty close:
1. Lightning Lad
2. Cosmic Boy
3. Saturn Girl
4. Phantom Girl
5. Triplicate Girl
6. Chameleon Boy
7. Invisible Kid
8. Colossal Boy
9. Star Boy
10. Ultra Boy
11. Braniac 5
12. Sun Boy
13. Shrinking Violet
14. Bouncing Boy
15. Matter-Eater Lad
16. Mon-El
17. Element Lad
18. Light Lass
19. Dream Girl
20. Karate Kid
21. Princess Projectra
22. Ferro Lad
23. Shadow Lass
24. Timber Wolf
25. Chemical King
26. Catspaw
27. Dragonmage
28. XS
29. Superboy
30. Supergirl
31. Andromeda
Getting closer, Xben! Still four off, though. You actually took out some of the correct ones you previously had!
Clue #3: Aside from the SW6 team, this is the only reality two of the heroes have been depicted as Legionnaires.
Clue #4: Despite the SW6 visual cues, the team roster is heavily inspired by a specific, earlier Legion era.
EDE has it, yet again!
The Kingdom Come Legion of Super-Heroes, glimpsed in only a panel of Kingdom Come and then a panel of JSA, were heavily inspired by the Adventure Comics era and featured every member of that period alive and well. They were joined by SW6 Legionnaires Catspaw and Dragonmage, Postbooter XS, legacy (but not Clark & Kara) versions of Superboy and Supergirl, and the gorgeous retcon of Andromeda.
Andromeda was originally absent from Kingdom Come, but had intended to be included by Ross on the team. She is visible, though barely, taking up the rear of the flight formation in their JSA appearance. Yours again, Eryk.
I suddenly remembered that it was basically the Adventure Era cast combined with the SW6ers, with XS thrown in. I was thinking Computo was there too, though, which confused me for a moment.
Yeah, I always thought Computo's exclusion was surprising. Then I remembered that if they were going by the history books she'd have to be a tyke again. Otherwise, good old Jacques Foccart would be too old to join the Legion down the road! That was the rationale I coped with, at least.
An awesome cast anyway.
Crap! Now I've got to come up with a new question!
Originally posted by Future:

Hmm... a possible problem with that being Andromeda is that Daxam was destroyed in this continuity. Of course, that might *not* be a problem as Laurel was originally from a Daxamite colony...
Next question:
What concept, later incorporated into the Legionverse, originated in Vol. 18 of the Science Fiction anthology Orbit?
Another good guess, but not right!
No, but, in one sense, the closest guess yet!
HINT: Orbit was a series published from 1966-1980.
Right, and from the incomplete Wikipedia article, Vol. 18 must have been published circa 1977-79, so the concept would have been introduced into the Legion later than that.
What about something like alternative histories?
A green character who appeared in every issue?
Nope and nope.
HINT: It's something you would probably immediately associate with the Legion if you heard the term for it, but apparently actually originates in a story in Orbit.
Nope. Plus, I'd associate stargates with that one sci-fi show... what was called?... oh, yeah... Stargate before I'd associate it with the Legion.
Meow.

HINT #1: Pocket Universes are, in one sense, closer than Hypertaxis or flight rings.
HINT #2: Orbit was published from 1966-1980, and HWW's research narrows down the publication of Volume 18 to 1977-1979.
HINT #3: It's something you would probably immediately associate with the Legion if you heard the term for it, but apparently actually originates in a story in Orbit.
A living force of entropy that inhabits the end of time?
It fits all the clues so far, but it's a complete wild guess
Nope. There's a very specific term associated that I'm looking for.
HINT #4: At least several Legionnaires enjoy this. At least one does not.
Holographic Dungeons & Dragons?
Nope. Getting closer, however.
Is it Klordny (Klordny Week or Klordny Festival)?
HINT #5: Brainiac Five is the Legionnaire who is not a fan of this.
I actually guessed "Moopsball" before you posted Hint # 5, as the post's time signature will bear out.
That's one of my favorite Brainy scenes, as it mirrors my own (sometimes) snobbish disinterest in sports. Brainy: "Gentlemen . . . the only thing I know about Moopsball is how to spell it!"
Good one, Eryk! I had no idea that Moopsball originated outside of the Legion. The name is just so . . . throwaway.
Be back in a day or so with a new question.
Yeah, I always assumed it was a Legion thing as well, until I came across it on Wikipedia a couple of weeks ago.
Moopsball! Of course, forgot all about that. It was clear that it was a game, but I couldn't remember any other games but Magnoball.
What was the Pocket Universe connection?
Just that both were 1980s concepts (unlike flight rings, from the Silver Age, and hypertaxis, from DnA).
Darn it was actually that Brainy scene I was recalling when I guessed Magnoball. Obviously got my balls confused!!
Which Legionnaire's homeworld was destined to become a planet-wide nursing home?
Random guess - Triplicate Girl / Cargg?
Phlon, if uncontrolled baby Condo Arlik accelerated the metabolism of everyone on the planet?
I'd have guessed Triplicate Girl / Cargg if I could (from Waid's LSH) but failing that I'll guess Imsk / Shrinking Violet
Triplicate Girl, Chemical King, and Shrinking Violet are all incorrect.
Hint: The Legionnaire's homeworld, as depicted in this story, had much in common with the Star Trek episode, "The Cage."
It's from the One Million issues.
Titan, I believe?
Eryk's got it.
According the Legionnaires One Million, Titan will become a "planetwide nursing home," where the rich and affluent can live out their days in a telepathic-enduced vision of heaven while nurses look after their bodies.
"The Cage" had a similar premise, in which the Talosians used their telepathic powers to create any sort of illusion their would-be slaves desired. This was particularly true for Vina, the beautiful young woman who tempted Captain Pike, but who in reality was middle aged and disfigured.
Of course, since Titan as been blown up, I guess the rich and affluent will have to go elsewhere.
Oddly enough, I've never read that issue, but remembered it from a couple of weeks back when I was looking at the Legion Elseworlds page to get the picture from Superboy's Legion.
It's odd how these questions and answers come about!
I decided to simplify my search for a trivia question this time by pulling a random issue out of my collection and challenging myself to create a trivia question from it. I had no idea it would stump so many people.
Okay, let's go back to alternate Legions.
In the LSH #300 alt-reality in which Computo recruits the LSV and kills a number of Legionnaires, who finally defeats Computo?
Originally posted by Eryk Davis Ester:

no one ....it was in stalemate as Polar Boy froze Computo while Computo exploded killing both Polar Boy and Colossal Boy. so I would say...no one. thats my opinion. For answer - would say its Polar Boy.
Polar Boy was who I had in mind. I would say Brek sacrificed himself to defeat Computo, ala Ferro Lad sacrificing himself to stop the Sun-Eater!
ah....just got a message from lancerealms wanting to spank me for being a bad boy! heh. oh hmmmm....
does it have to limit to comics only? can it be expanded to action figures, 7-11 slurpee, heroclix, t-shirt, etc?
Anything Legion-related, from any media, is fair game as far as I'm concerned.
hmmm okay i will give it a try:
besides Fatal Five, name at least two Legion villains that has appeared in Legion cartoon. who are they?
Hmm...don't remember the cartoon that well, but I think both Mekt Ranzz and Ronn Karr appeared?
Grimbor and Lightning Lord?

I would never threaten anyone here with a spanking. I think there are too many people here who would enjoy it.

answer: The lineup of Lightning Lord, Hunter, Esper, Tyr, Wave, and Ron-Karr appears in the Legion of Superheroes Animated series - - and also Grimbor.
so Xben - you got both right - your turn!
OK, in Issue #300 of the Legion of Super-Heroes, there is a two page spread of the ceremony that the Legion is building to throughout the issue. It contains also an "Honor Roll of the Legionnaires."
The question is: Name all the people listed on the Honor Roll who aren't shown in that picture to be at the ceremony.
Ferro Lad, Invisible Kid I, Chemical King and Tyroc
Close, but you are missing one
Ferro Lad, Invisible Kid I, Chemical King and Tyroc...
and Kid Psycho?

Invisible Kid I, Ferro Lad, Chemical King, Tyroc, and the "Vi" depicted was actually Yera?
Korbal is right - Vi was not at the ceremony as she was replaced by Yera at the time.
Kid Psycho and Pete Ross were not listed on the Honor Roll, and Kid Psycho at least was also present.
How did Queen Azura's command given to Supergirl differ from that of the other female Legionnaires?
Did her little "voodoo" statuette have tiny traces of Kryptonite in it?
That was ambassador Thora, sometime later...
Ah, I get those stories mixed up
Queen Azura's command to Supergirl included an order to kill Superboy?
It was created using a recording of Superboys voice as opposed to Azuras?
More in the wording, the order given to Supergirl would not allow her to become infatuated with Duplicate Boy as Violet's command did...
She told Supergirl to hate boys?
She told Supergirl to hate super-powered boys?
It told her to hate males? Also, she didn't try to kill Chameleon Boy; she just sprayed him with cancelite so he would remain a phantom.
Lance is close enough. Kara was told to hate all males, while the other Legionnaires were instructed to hate only their male team mates, (which allowed Vi to become attracted to Duplicate Boy while under Azura's influence).
Ok, sorry...off we go...
There was once a reward offered of one million dollars for the capture of someone. Who was it?
The Legionnaires hiding in the 20th century during the first Mordru storyline?
Good guesses, but no and no.
I'm thinking Tharok, but I don't know how Tharok would be close to Ultra Boy.
No. Here's a hint. The fugitive was a Legionnaire.
Tinya Wazzo? I don't ever recall such a moment, but I'm just trying to think of "close to Ultra Boy" guesses.
No...all I meant by "close to Ultra Boy" was that the fugitive was a Legionnaire.
Thank you, Eryk. Yes, it was Colossal Boy in Adventure #372.
Lurium is a defense against which villain?
Nope, it is a Silver Age villain however!
I'm going to assume that you meant "Meglaro" and give it to you, stuorstew!
Lurium helmets were used block out the mind control abilities of Meglaro.
Soree aboot thet spealin woz nevah mi stwron soot
Apart from Cosmic Boy and Shrinking Violet which other Legionnaire was present at Venado Bay?
Yep that is correct
Your go
What was different about Dominators between their first appearance and all of their subsequent appearances?
They were originally blue?
That's what I'm looking for. Your turn.
I should be working on an assignment instead of playing at Legion World so an easy question -
Reboot Wildfire was made up of which two characters?
Those are the two.
Your Q stuorstew.
I love it when a post is a poem!
We could to worse
than having a verse
but who has the time
for a really good rhyme?
Well I was blessed
With the right guess
Now here is my quest...ion
Ok maybe not so much of the rhyming for me!
The Encyclopedia Galactica entry for which planet read:
Jerkwater. Give it a miss.
That sounds like a Giffen quote, so I'll say:
Bismoll?
Nope, neither Giffen or Bismoll
Mardru. Not Giffen, but Giffen-esque indeed, as it is from the Legion of Subs origin in Secret Origins # 37.
Who was the first Legion reject who became a villain?
That's who I was thinking of. Yours, Quis.
Dang! That means I have to come up with a question.
was he Rokk's crooked sports manager in the Reboot?
okay, then. What Legionnaire came from a homeworld spelled with only one consonant?
Aetia? Echo or Flederweb?
Echo was from Calish-Aetia. Not quite sure if it's the same place; it seems with the modifier that it would probably be a distinctly separate place (a la West Virginia from Virginia). And that Calish modifier adds extra consonants.
Flederweb was from Aetia. He's who I was thinking of.
even though it's kind of a double-guess, I'll give next Q to Chaim, since even his (possibly) 'wrong' guess is in the right ballpark. Anyone who doesn't like it can sue me!
I was actually wondering if someone would argue for an Eather, given the "Gaia" alt-name for Earth.
What was Grxx of Ceti Alpha 6 doing when the Crisis on Infinite Earths occurred?
Looking for the "Botany Bay"?
Stu, you are correct. Sorry for the delay in responding, life's been a bit hectic here at Casa Keller.
In the Anti-Superman Gang which villain was the officer in charge of Space Raids?
Stu, I don't think folks here are familiar with the anti-Superman Gang.
I'll guess Brainiac.
No apparently not but I am struggling to come up with any clues that does not give it away apart from:
They are also a founding member of the LSV
It is not Brainiac even though he was a member of the Anti-Superman Gang
Nor is it Lex Luthor who is the other non-LSV member of the gang
I seem to remember an issue of "World's Finest" (c. 1977) in which a version of the Anti-Superman Gang challenged the Anti-Batman Gang. The ASG had shaved heads to emulate Lex Luthor and wore Superman uniforms with a kryptonite "S".
Totally unrelated to the question, but I was wondering if anyone else remembered this.
I think the answer is General Zod!
Well, I'll guess Saturn Queen. I think that covers the founders of the LSV.
Originally posted by lancesrealm:

Yes it does and it also happens to be the correct answer. So, thankfully;), it is your go
What!? Hey, that's not fair! Now I gotta think of a question! (I didn't think there was a snowball's chance in Quito that that was the right answer.)
Brother of Kenz Nuhor, who Star Boy killed in self-defense.
What was built on the exact location of the Legion HQ holding cell in Superboy's time?
Um...I know the story you are thinking of..was it a Superboy statue?
Ok, a hint..this was from a story when the Legion was the backup in Action.
Was that the dude Princess Projectra/Saturn Girl were trying to capture before they met Prince Projector/Saturn Lad?
That's what I was looking for, Quis - next question to you.
In the fight with the Legion of Super rejects, which Legionnaires took out which Reject?
This was around Superboy & the Legion #212 or so...but I don't remember the details so I might have to go dig it out. IIRC, that is...
Guessing wildly:
Vi took out Calorie Queen
Tenzil took out Magno Lad
Saturn Girl defeated Chameleon Kid
Chameleon Boy went over Phantom Lad
Cosmic Boy vanquished Micro Lad
Phantom Girl beat Esper Lass
It was #212 and:
M-E Lad captured Calorie Queen
Cham punched out Magno Lad
Vi did the same to Phantom Lad
Tinya reciprocated woth Micro Lad
Cos spun Esper lass into submission
and saturn Girl terrified Chameleon Kid into surrender
It was Superboy and the Legion of Superheroes #212. Silver Age Lad has it. Although I would say that it was Saturn Girl & Matter-Eater Lad that got Chameleon Kid (Imra to point him out and Tenzil to threaten) and Cosmic Boy helped take out Magno by making himself a target.
Not a single one correct *hangs head in shame*
No, no, you got Saturn Girl vs Chameleon Kid. I think in a real fight Imra would not have needed Tenzil's help in defeating Chameleon Kid, but it was a spot light story for Matter-Eater Lad
Apologies if this has been asked before:

You got it in one. Your question
The doctor who worked for Evillo. He betrayed Evillo by restoring Lightning Lad's arm, Bouncing Boy's power, and Matter-Eater Lad's slimness.
Here's an obscure one. Speaking of Zan Orbal, what error did Legion text feature writer Allan Asherman commit against the esteemed doctor?
Hint time? Even if you don't have the article in question (it's in one of the old reprint LSH issues), you should be able to make a reasonable guess based on what little we know about the doctor.
Um...he said he had a sister named Jayna?
Did he say he was a member of the Devil's Dozen?
Wrong on both counts (though the Jayna guess is so specific, lancesrealm, that I wonder what you are thinking of).
Hint # 2: Asherman apparently didn't read the story closely. If one reads only the conclusion in ADV. 351 and not another scene several pages earlier, it's easy to miss this vital piece of info.
He Who, lance was referring to the fact that the Wonder Twins from the old Super Friends cartoon were named Zan (as in, Zan Orbal) and Jayna.
Oh, okay.
Did he say that Orbal was an alien rather than that he was a normal human turned horror-looking by Evillo?
Did they mis-spell his name?
Originally posted by stuorstew:
Did they mis-spell his name?
Close enough.
Asherman thought the doctor didn't have a name. From the text feature in LSH v.1 # 4:
In retaliation, the good scientist (whose name we never learned), decided to undo as much harm as possible, and, in the process, performed three great services to The Legion [emphasis mine].
It's easy to see how Asherman missed Zan Orbal's name. It's mentioned only once, when Evillo is talking to the injured Lightning Lad (Orbal appears only on video screen during the exchange). His name is not mentioned at all during the climax, when the doctor finally appears and speaks.
Your turn, stuorstew.
What! Really? That was the answer?
New question soon
Well, I said it was obscure.
Dawnstar's boyfrield from the world of Kol.
The Shurg is a 30th-century dance craze from what planet?
Janda.
Though I wonder if the sexual meanings of shurg came before or after the story was printed.
I had no idea "shurg" was a sometimes dirty word. I looked it up, and was surprised to find that some things could still offend me.
Correct, Shining Son.
And I too had no idea that "shurg" had become a dirty word. Grife!
Given time I suppose all words, even made up ones, will eventually have a sexual meaning.
Oh and BTW Chaim, thanks for posting that Dominators question back in April. I have that original appearance in an inherited comic, and when they appeared again when I started buying comics myself, I always thought "I could swear they were blue." Having just run across my old comics last week, I see there's a technicality involved, but I may use that for my next question.
But for this one:
In the 1980's, DC was paid for the movie rights to a Legionnaire, though the movie had nothing to do with that character. Name that Legionnaire.
(I looked back a few pages after joining Legion World, but there's over 100 pages in this trivia thread alone, so forgive me if it's already been asked. And also if there's more than one right answer, but I only know of the one.)
I will go for the obvious one and say Karate Kid
I am pretty sure you are correct, Stu, because I remember seeing credit given to DC in the credits. Still, we'll wait for SS to confirm.
Yep, that's the one I was thinking of.
Sorry for the delay
By what novel method did Ferro defeat Benn Pares?
I believe he punched Benn Pares through a teleportation disk created by Gates. Adventures in the DCU 10, right?
(PS, I don't check LW much, but if y'all PM me I'll receive an email, and check back here right away. Thanks!)
Thanks Stu!
According to Gates, what were the only words Brainiac 5 ever said to him?
"I need four teleport discs, Gates." Something else else akin to that?
100% right, Future! Next Q's yours!
What's unique about Shadow Lass and White Witch's induction into the Legion that other Legionnaires can't claim?
Was it that it was in the course of battle?
You got it! Over to you, Xben.
OK, back 70's, which six Legionnaires believed Superboy's crazy ramblings enough to travel back to the 20th Century with him and investigate a threat to the United Nations?
Projectra
Shadow Lass
Mon-el
Karate Kid
Brainiac 5
Sun Boy
That's right!
I just bought this story off of Ebay, after years of being curious about it.
Xben, this is from the tabloid, right? I looked for this for years in the pre-internet days. I finally found it in a comic shop and picked one up for a dollar. Considering the story, I might have paid too much, haha! Really weak story, IMHO...
It's not the greatest by any means, but after hearing many times how weak it was, I had my expectations lowered enough that I found I enjoyed it more than I thought. It was fun to read a "new" story from that period in Legion history, which is the period where my collection is least complete (thus I am very happy about the news of the latest Archive).
I'd probably grab one just to see the wedding, too. This was an interesting transitory period for the Legion, when they were starting to grow up.
OK, question:
Kinetix has always loved her fashions. She even has the costumes of three heroines in her closet. Whose are they?
I'm going off memory here, but I think I remember Kinetix had the costumes for Wonder Woman as well as preboot Shrinking Violet (60s) and Phantom Girl (70s). If the Legion heroine costume nods don't count, then I'm at a loss.

A+, Future. Next Q's yours!
In the 2001 Superboy's Legion, five longstanding Silver Age Legionnaires never joined Superboy's team during the course of the story. Four were, however, shown finally as members in the story's closing splash page. Name these five Legionnaires and the one Legionnaire among them who surprisingly didn't make the cut on a Legion team of 40+.
Hint: These Silver Agers have had counterparts on Earth-247, Earth-Prime, Kingdom Come, Batch SW6 (sort of), etc.
Triplicate Girl
Dream Girl
Matter-Eater Lad
Timber Wolf
and Mon-el as the one who didn't join?
You got it, IB. Right back to you.
Thanks, Future!
In Post-Zero Hour Legion history, what do these Legionnaires have in common?
Hint: it has to do with their membership.
Triad
Brainiac 5
Gates
Ultra Boy
Element Lad
M'Onel
Monstress
Ferro
Kid Quantum II
Karate Kid
Wildfire
Shikari
Timber Wolf
Dreamer
The fact that they all appeared in at least one comic issue before the issue in which they joined the Legion?
Excellent, Chaim. Next Q is yours!
Which two Legionnaires other than Tyroc have been on Marzal when it was out of Earth's dimension?
Shadow Lass and Dawnstar?
Those are they. Quick turnaround, EDE.
How did Shrinking Violet cause Amalgamax to retreat?
Prematurely activated the warning device that his powers were wearing off
That's it! The device was, of course, located in his belt buckle!
In honor of the upcoming Star Trek/ Legion of Super-Heroes mini--Name five performers who have both Star Trek and Legion of Super-Heroes acting credits...
I'm guessing...
Wil Wheatin
LeVar Burton
Rene - (guy who played Odo)
Avery Brooks
Michael Dorn
Ya got one, Wil Wheaton did play Rokk.
Hint: The other actors are not as well known: two played Legionnaires, and the other two portrayed Legion adversaries unique to the cartoon.
Well, since it been more than a week without a guess, the other actors were:
Andy Mildner and Bumper Robinson, who played Lightning Lad and Star Boy (as well as guest aliens in episodes of ST:DS9 and ST:Voyager), Greg Ellis who played the enigmatic Phantom Zone escapee Drax, and Engineer Olsen (the "Red Shirt" disintegrated by the Romulans attack on Vulcan in the reboot movie) and last but not least, Phil Morris who portrayed Imperiex--and not only appeared in ST:Voyager and "The Search For Spock"--he also played a child in the Original Series episode "Miri."
KKid since you did manage to name Wil Wheaton, the next question is yours...
I wish I could pass finals with 20% correct.
What do Paul Decker, Charles Tyson, and Barbara Jean Scott have in common?
Um, they share their names with so many other people that a Google search didn't help me at all?
)
Not having to take finals at all is even better! Wish that happened to me a lot more often
)
They all designed costumes for Legionnaires.
Correct! Your turn HWW.
Which Legionnaires were destined to do the following when they grew up?
a) smoke a pipe
b) have twin boys
c) lead the Cosmic Directorate
d) have a daughter named Arna
a. Brainiac 5
b. Brin & Ayla (Just working against the obvious guess)
c. Colossal Boy
d. Star Boy & Dream Girl
Mostly guesses here.
Three answers are correct. One is not.
a. Brainiac 5
b. Brin & Ayla
c. Colossal Boy
d. Jo and Tinya Nah
None of them, since that timeline never came to pass!
Just kidding, I'm pretty sure KK#1 has it right.
And KK#1
is correct.
(And since the question reads "were destined," he is still correct.
)
Wow, I'm pretty impressed at how I did with basically guessing (the only one I was certain about was Brainiac 5)
What did Hunter I require six Legionnaires to do to become "safe"?
Hint: They had to touch something
It was a flag, wasn't it? And the flag was connected to a bomb that would kill him?
You've got the right idea, CMK, but it wasn't a flag,
Ehhh....
kinda
A specific type of statue borrowed from the American Northwest.
Gee, that was a subtle hint. Must have been a totem pole.
That's where I went wrong at first - I remembered a pole - thought "flagpole" - and answered "flag."
Whose grave was Brainiac 5 visiting when he was attacked by Mano?
Correct.
I'm not coming up with very tough questions lately, it seems.
This one may be easy, too.
Who was Lialla?
Okay, maybe not so easy!
Hint: she's somebody's relative.
The Persuaders daugther in the Reboot?
Really? When was the Persuader revealed to have a daughter? (or is this the 20th/21st-century Persuader, who I never really cared about?)
That would have been in the final arc of the post-Zero Hour Legion, "For No Better Reason", written by Gail Simone.
Huh...I don't even remember the Persuader being involved in it. I just remember a bunch of villains who named themselves after 20th-century super-heroes with colors in their names and removing the colors.
There was a whole subplot about a floating prison with the inmates escaping, which featured a bunch of romantic tension between Karate Kid and the Persuader's daughter. I thought she was kind of a fun character. I think it took about three issues for them to actually give her a name, though, and I always forget it.
Finally found a pic of her:
I guess it's been a while since I read those issues. Truth to tell, when I get the urge to re-read my reboot issues, it's never the DnA (or successor) issues that I go to. It's always the period from ZH until LSH # 100 (yes, inclusive of the team 20- team 30 split) that I remember most fondly.
^ Except for the Team 20 part of the Team 20/Team 30 split (although a couple of issues were good), that (and Legion Lost) is my favourite period of the reboot too, CMK.
Which member once helped save the day by using the Augmatron?
Yes it was Projectra
Your go Lance
Which 3 Legionnaires fought Klim?
Chemical King, Cosmic Boy and Shrinking Violet
Yep, they all got Milk...er, fought Klim. You're up, Chaim.
What brand of breakfast "cereal" does Tenzil Kem eat?
No takers? Hint: the brand name implies that it's made of rocks.
Was it "Quarry" or something like that?
It was indeed "Quarry." You're up, Xben.
I'm away from my comic collection right now so this is by memory...
Shadow Lass once told a group of tourists about a specific functionality that the Flight Rings had that I have never seen before or since in any story (although I cannot guarantee that it was never mentioned anywhere else). What was it?
That's right. Was that something limited to that one story, as a reason to explain artist's mistakes? Was it ever mentioned again?
Dawny used it during Blok's training mission in LEGION #272, which did merit an editor's note, and Geoff Johns has been using it during his Superman/Legion crossovers.
New Question: Which Legionnaire gave Lois Lane a flight ring?
I am guessing this was from Lois Lane #50 so...Phantom Girl?
Nope, this was a much more recent revelation...
Future has it, as revealed by Johns in ACTION COMICS #900.
That had something to do with the short story where the Legion comes to dinner in the 21st century, right? I thought I recalled it from around that time but didn't have the issue on hand.
New Question: Which Legion related characters were originally named Rondo Kane, Angela Majors, and Lara Londo?
Two gals and a guy?
I guess Power Boy, Nightwing and Lamprey?
Very close, stuorstew! Nightwind and Lamprey are correct. Nightwind was originally called Nightwing (so your answer is correct in that regard as well!) and her real name was Lara Londo. Lamprey's real name was Angela Majors. The boy that accompanied them was not Power Boy, however. Care to take another guess? The next question will be yours either way, stuorstew, for getting the most correct.
These name changes were because the characters first debuted out of continuity as fan submissions in Amazing World of DC Comics #14. When they were fully adapted into the Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes tales, their aliases were changed into homages to their fan creators.
Although the next question belongs to stuorstew, I'll chime in that the third person must be Crystal Kid.
You're correct on the third, Chaim! Crystal Kid rounds out the trifecta.
stuorstew, you're up.
As soon as I pressed send I became sure I had got it wrong but did not want to edit it incase somebody came along with all three.
But anyhoo:
Six Legionnaires lost their flight rings to Talon Redbeard. Who were they?
I admit I had to google Talon Redbeard to recall who that was. I'm having trouble remembering who was even in that issue, but I'll go with a guess and spotty memory:
Brainiac 5, Chameleon Boy, Dream Girl, Lightning Lad, Shrinking Violet, Timber Wolf?
You got four and, as the animated questions never seem that popular, if nobody gets them all by tomorrow then it will be your question
As expected there were no other takers for this question.
The two you got wrong were Chameleon Boy and Dream Girl (even though Dream Girl did play a significant role in the issue she did not lose her ring (Which is probably the first time that has happened to Nura))
The six were: Brainiac 5, Lightning Lad, Shrinking Violet, Timber Wolf, Bouncing Boy and Superman.
Your go Future
The Batch SW6 Legionnaires have had a total of five different leaders. Name them. Next question will go to the first person to get all five.
Hint 1: These are leaders proper, not mission leaders.
This is just a guess going by my very bad memory so I'm sure someone else will remember more accurately who the five were -
Cosmic Boy
Computo
Chameleon Boy (the adult version)
Invisible Kid
Saturn Girl
Very close, Blacula! You got four of the five. The incorrect one is Chameleon Boy, who was more a mentor than an official leader.
The fifth one, as a hint, features the same reasoning Saturn Girl makes the list.
Well
my reasoning for including her was - "panel hog".
So by that logic, I'll say - Brainiac 5. haha
Haha. That logic works too, and you're correct!
Invisible Kid, Cosmic Boy, and Computo were all shown on-panel as leaders.
Saturn Girl and Brainiac 5 retroactively count as previous preboot Legion leaders (before IK) likely were in continuity for them.
Your go, Blacula!
I find that Saturn Girl and Brainiac 5 are good guesses for most answers in this thread because of how much they've done over their panel-hogging years. haha
Here's my question-
Which two Legionnaires and a Legion ally once tried to evacuate a city in England?
Hm. This is making me think of Legionnaires Annual #2, but I'm blanking on if that location was featured.
I'll stage a guess: Chameleon and Invisible Kid with...Evolvo?
I'm guessing the reference is to the evacuation of London during Crisis on Infinite Earths, but I can't remember which Legionnaires were there.
I'll try:
Ultra Boy
Phantom Girl
Kid Psycho
Was it Phantom Girl, Superboy..and Dev-Em?
Of the 8 different characters guessed so far - only 1 is correct.
Dream Girl
Kid Psycho
Element Lad
EDE guessed the occasion to which I'm referring earlier and Xben has two of the three characters involved correct.
Shrinking Violet?
Element Lad
Kid Psycho

I agree with both of you. I rarely reread anything after Legion 14 (Computo invades Earth). I guess some of us just like our bright, shiny, happy futures.
Oh, and I guess Element Lad, Mon-el and Kid Psycho. Also features the last appearance of poor Kid Psycho.
And IB has it!
Element Lad
Mon-el
Kid Psycho
... kind of a weird grouping of characters. And, also the last time it could ever happen since, yes - Kid Psycho got eaten by the anti-matter wave at the end of it.
Over to you IB.
Maybe they thought Jan's pink costume would go well with Mon's red one?
Post-Zero Hour Legion Q:
When the Legion went to Summer World, which 4 Legion boys opted not to wear speedo-type swimwear, and instead went for the board shorts look?
Element Lad, Ferro, Magno, and ... Tenzil Kem?
Oops, you know what, I do believe I made a mistake. There were 5 Legion boys who wore shorts - Chuck Taine was the 5th.
Since you got the first 4 right, Future, you're up!
For each of the following lucky ladies, name the Legion lad who once dated them: Janice, Zynthia, Nila, Iresa, and Mayra.
Hmmm...
Chameleon Boy - Janice
Star Boy - Zynthia
Sun Boy - Nila
Bouncing Boy - Iresa
Invisible Kid - Mayra
You're one off, IB! Mayra's boy toy was NOT Invisible Kid (that was Myla). Care to take another stab at it?
Drat. And to think it was the ghostly gal whom I'd forgotten!
Chameleon Boy - Janice
Star Boy - Zynthia
Sun Boy - Nila
Bouncing Boy - Iresa
Element Lad - Mayra
You've got it! Back to you, IB.
We're certainly having a fun little game passing things back and forth, Future! Nice Q too, it inspired me for the next one...
The Post-Zero Hour Legionnaires rarely had romantic interactions with people outside the team (or Legion supporting cast - so no XS-Magno, Leviathan-Gigi, Ultra Boy-Spider Girl or Star Boy-Dreamer in this question). Also, we've rarely seen them go on dates, or even just flirting casually.
Can you name or identify (in case of unnamed characters) the non-Legionnaires we've seen these Legion Ladies with?
Triad (2 possible answers)
Kinetix (2 possible answers)
Shikari
I'm blanking on answers to all of these, but I'm going to toss some guesses out anyway.
Triad = She flirted with Arsenal once?
Kinetix = her SP partner?
Hm. Shikari = her nest kin Reos or Kamlos?
XS and Magno had a thing? I've totally forgotten that. What a cute couple they would have made.
I'm blanking on this question too.
I think Triad might have had a crush on Superboy (Kon) at one point but since he was a member later that probably doesn't count.
I remember Kinetix was the recipient of some romantic desires from Atom'X. Not sure if that counts either though since he later became half of Wildfire.
Whoops! I know realize I have to be much more careful with how I word my questions
Future, you're right about Triad and Shikari. I'd totally forgotten Titans/Legion. I didn't count her SP partner, since that scene could have been chalked up to playful banter between friends.
Blacula, you were right about Superboy, whom I didn't count; and Atom'x, whom I did (I forgot about him becoming one-half of Wildfire).
Re XS and Magno, Magno was coming onto Jenni in Legionnaires 59; they rode a carousel together in Legionnaires 77; and they were shown hugging in Legionnaires 80. Sadly, those were the only 3 instances of their little romance. You're right, they would have made a great couple.
For the record, the answers I was thinking of were:
Triad
a) unidentified guy in LSH 62, as the Legionnaires were walking to the UP Building
b) unidentified guy in Legionnaires 59, in the nightclub Triad Purple, Chameleon, Spark and Sensor attended.
Kinetix
a) Atom'x
b) Radion
Shikari
a) Kamlos
Future, you're up.
Legion applicant Voice once embarrassed which Legionnaire by asking everyone to raise their hand?
Correct! Voice didn't believe any Legionnaire would be effected by her simple vocal suggestion since her powers only worked on "simple minds" or something like that.
Your go, IB.
^ haha. That's actually quite funny. What issue/series did that appear in?
It was in the Threeboot! LSH v5 #38, I believe. I miss a lot of those auditionees Shooter made. They were a lot of fun.
I especially love how Voice was going, "Oh, but I'm sure nobody here will be affected by my powers... Oops."
What did Kinetix do that made Brainiac 5 and Gates agree for once?
I remember her throwing a transuit on top of them but not what her specific comment was. Probably for being too dorky analyzing the spacial anomaly.
Good enough!
She just told them to stop arguing, and suit up.
You're up, Future!
Name four people who have killed Sun Boy.
I'll get the ball rolling -
1. Sun Boy
2. Superboy Prime
3.
4.
Superboy Prime is one of them. I'm spacing on Sun Boy killing Sun Boy though.
Me too - I thought for a second he committed suicide in the 5 Year Gap, but then I remembered that wasn't the case.
I can remember
1. Superboy Prime
2. Circe
3. Mask Man (implied - I don't think we ever saw or heard about the specifics of his death)
4. Mordru and his little creepy looking demons in one of the alternate universes in LSH #300 - is there a shot of him being impaled?
(5. Alternatively, I think Blok and Dark Man basically kill him and everyone else in another one of those alternates)
Xben got three of the four I was thinking of! Superboy Prime, Circe, and Mask Man. I'm sure there's more Sun Boy deaths out there from various AUs, which I'm fine with accepting, so that's four for four.
The only other specific death I was thinking of is his death by Fahrenheit of Stormwatch or Authority (I'm unfamiliar with the character) in the DreamWar crossover.
Yours, Xben.
Wow, I didn't know anything about that DreamWar thing.
I'll be back as soon as I think of something.
I don't know how quickly I'll be back on this site, so I'll ask what I think will be a pretty easy one, for this crowd.
In the story where Chemical King died, the cover asked which one of the pictured heroes was going to die? Who were the other four (less likely) possibilities that were pictured on that cover?
I'll answer as soon as I can, but if anyone is positive of their answer or wants to check, feel free to move forward.
Saturn Girl
Colossal Boy
Superboy
Chameleon Boy
Who attacked the Legion with a Table Lamp?
Originally posted by Future:
Superboy Prime is one of them. I'm spacing on Sun Boy killing Sun Boy though.
Whoops. The Sun Boy killing Sun Boy thing was my misremembering of the 5YL era.
Originally posted by stuorstew:
Who attacked the Legion with a Table Lamp?
Total guess, but... Pa Kent? I'm thinking during the "Pocket Universe" story?
No not Pa
Quick Clue:
They were not aware it was a table lamp as they thought it was an ultimate weapon
The Time Trapper, disguised as SP Chief Wilson?
Neither of these are the answer I am looking for.
Another clue:
It was a Kryptonian lamp/doomsday weapon
I'm going to randomly guess, of all people ... Supergirl?
Whilst it did happen in a Supergirl story she was most definately the hero of the tale.
It was indeed Universo.
Your go
I was just guessing, but I remembered Universo was the villain from Superman Family #204, which might be the issue you are referring to? Anyway, off we go...
What did Saturn Girl once destroy that was worth $200,000?
A bar of Duralim (to make into medallions of her face)?
I don't think it was called Duralim; it was just called a spectrum bar. (Or maybe a spectrum rainbow bar.) You got the rest right - it was from Adventure #304 - so take the next qustion please.
just chiming in - Duralim is the metal Saturn Girl used for her rod during the resurrection of Lightning Lad. It's ultra-conductive, so she planned to ensure that she was the one who'd get hit by lightning.
I did know what Duralim was. Hmmm...I wonder if it is a metal native to Durla? Food for geeky thoughts...
Ah, right, Duralim was from Lightning Lad's resurrection issue, not his death issue.
Who are the only two people ever seen to damage the Persuader's Atomic Axe?
Lesse..Mon-El...and Ultra Boy?
Originally posted by Chaim Mattis Keller:

Matter-Eater Lad and Element Lad?
Those are the two I'm thinking of - Tenzil from Batch SW6, and Element Lad in the reboot.
Take it away, KK!
I couldn't remember the exact situation with E-Lad, but the panel in which Tenz chomps through the Axe is classic.
What was the line-up of the Heroes of Lallor when they declined to help in the battle against Mordru and Emerald Violet?
Element Lad turned the axe to cheese dip when the Persuader threw it at Gim.
Heroes of Lallor in that scene were, I believe, Beast Boy, Gas Girl, Splitter (aka Arm-Fall-Off Boy) and Duplicate Boy.
Ah, thanks, CMK. Now I can visualize the scene.
Beast Boy, Gas Girl, and Splitter was the list I was looking for. To tell the truth, I don't remember Dupe Boy in the reboot (or Life Lass).
You know, I think you're right about that. I'm probably mis-remembering Dupe Boy. He might have been in a crowd scene somewhere else.
Which classic Legion story was read by Mysa to Rond Vidar as a poetic epic during the "Mordruverse" issue?
I've PMed Stu about this. Let's give him a couple days to respond.
I've PMed Stu about this. Let's give him a couple days to respond.
Sorry for the delay so a nice easy one to get the thread going again.
During the Threeboot what was the name of the Winathian Lord of the Lightning?
Which Legionnaire is supposedly named after a family member?
Not Laurel, though I did forget the Lar : Laurel homage there.
The Legionnaire in question literally shares the same name as a family member. Extra hint: they also share the same hair color.
You got it, KK!
In Legionnaires 3 the mini-series, the founders are forced to make a hasty retreat when Imra's obnoxious aunt, Aunt Imra, comes for a visit. One could assume that our Imra was named after this aunt.
How did Kono know that Jo wasn't dead?
Hmm. Was it because she always thought a femme would do him in?
An excellent understanding of the personalities involved, but no.
She felt that Jo wouldn't die until he'd found Tinya?
She thought he wouldn't die without telling her first.
Exactly! 5YL, Jo was thrown back to ancient Egypt by way of Dominator agent Roxxas and a chronal Howitzer.
The floor is yours, good Exnihil.
Cool... ok, sticking with Kono:
What uniquely identifying birthmark did Kono have?
...formed by freckles, yep.
Too easy, I guess. Take it away, stu.
I've pinged Stu already, but I guess he hasn't gone online yet. If he doesn't respond within a day, whomever reads this first go ahead and ask a Q to keep the game rolling.
Okay, I'll take it. When Shadow Lass was hiding out in 1960's Smallville as Betsy Norcross, exchange student, what almost revealed her presence if it were not for Superboy's quick action with a fountain pen?
Was it that she had brushed up against something, rubbing off the "white" paint she was wearing? Can't recall the specific incident.
Ha. Sorry, it's a classic story. One of my favorites.
Next question:
Which member of the Justice League was given a flight belt and rejected from membership into the Legion of Super-Heroes ... without intending to actually apply?
As a hint, it's not a super cousin.
Yep! Blue Jay got thrown through time, but at least he didn't come back empty handed. ...not that a flight belt does him any good...
Yours, IB.
What do the following Postboot Legionnaires have in common?
Cosmic Boy
Live Wire
Saturn Girl
Apparition
Triad
Invisible Kid
Chameleon
Leviathan
Brainiac 5
Kinetix
Shrinking Violet
Gates
Element Lad
Monstress
Karate Kid
They all wear their flight rings on their right hand?
That may be true, but I think other Legionnaires do as well.
This is something that, as far as I know, ONLY these Legionnaires have in common.
Alright, here's a hint:
Andromeda would have been included in this list, if not for the last page of Legionnaires Annual 2.
Gates would have been excluded from the list, if not for Legion Lost (2nd series) #1.
Killed another in battle?
Characters the readers were led to believe had died (whether they had or not)?
(I can't really figure out how many of these Legionnaires fit that, but the Andromeda/Gates hint makes me think of it.)
Xben's answer is closer. But think a bit harder. Andromeda was believed dead, but what was revealed at the last page of Legionnaires Annual 2?
Couple more clues:
- Majority of the Legionnaires are only on the list because of Legionnaires 54.
- Another two (perhaps three) are only on the list because of Titans/Legion Universe Ablaze.
To make it even clearer, I checked the list and there's a Legionnaire I omitted (my bad):
What do the following Postboot Legionnaires have in common?
Cosmic Boy
Live Wire
Saturn Girl
Apparition
Triad
Invisible Kid
Chameleon
Leviathan
Kid Quantum I
Brainiac 5
Kinetix
Shrinking Violet
Gates
Element Lad
Monstress
Karate Kid
They've all had memorial statues/services in some form?
Not quite - Andromeda had a statue, as did Gates prior to the Retroboot.
Remember, Gates is only on this list because of Legion Lost (2nd series) 1 - so what occurred here that did not occur prior to that?
More clues (and a correction to my 2nd clue, my bad):
- Majority of the Legionnaires are only on the list because of Legionnaires 54.
- Another is only on the list because of Titans/Legion Universe Ablaze.
- Another Legionnaire is on the list because of both Titans/Legion AND Legion Lost (1st series).
- Another Legionnaire is on the list because of both Legionnaires 54 AND Legion Lost (1st series).
- Yet a 3rd Legionnaire is on the list because of both Legionnaires 54 AND Titans/Legion
- A 4th Legionnaire is on the list because of Legionnaires 54 AND Titans/Legion; this Legionnaire may also be on the list because of Legion Lost, although that is debatable
Hm. They were all killed or believed dead while using their powers?
As far as I remember, the last page of Legionnaires Annual #2 revealed that Andromeda was still alive, but self-imprisoned. I never read Universe Ablaze.
Is it simply characters who were, apparently, actually killed in action? If all of the time-lost Legionnaires died in #54, which I don't recall in detail, than most of the characters listed do fit that.
Not exactly, Future. Remember, Andromeda was also believed dead while using her powers to engage another Daxamite, yet she's not on the list.
I think Legionnaires 54 is what makes this so hazy, since it's debatable as to what actually happened to them in that issue.
Their deaths were all witnessed by other Legionnaires? Though that doesn't technically cover Apparition.

Is it simply characters who were, apparently, actually killed in action? If all of the time-lost Legionnaires died in #54, which I don't recall in detail, than most of the characters listed do fit that.
Xben has it. The Legionnaires listed all apparently died in action, at least to the reader.
I didn't count Andromeda since she hadn't actually died.
Gates was believed dead by the Postboot Universe during the events of the Great Rift, but he would not have been included because he was actually alive and imprisoned. However, his apparent death in Legion Lost 2nd series earns him a spot on the list.
I counted Legionnaires 54 deaths as actual deaths, since the reality continued after the Legionnaires "died" saving it.
Here's a listing of the "deaths" of the rest:
Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl, Triad, Violet, Chameleon, Invisible Kid - Legionnaires 54
Live Wire - L*54, Titans/Legion, Legion Lost (debatable if he actually died)
Apparition - Legionnaires Annual 2
Leviathan - LSH 84
Kid Quantum I - LSH 62
Brainiac 5 - Titans/Legion, L*54
Kinetix - Legion of 3 Worlds
Gates - Legion Lost 1 (2nd series)
Element Lad - L*54, Legion Lost 12 (1st series)
Karate Kid - Titans/Legion
Monstress - Legion Lost 11 (1st series), Titans/Legion
Over to you, Xben!
I can think of four different Adventure-era Legionnaires who had the same basic event happen to them (although not all in Adventures-era stories)(there could be more, but there are only four that come to mind). One of these was the result of natural causes, one was the result of an accident, one was the result of a political situation, and one was the result of deliberate murder.
Can you name the basic event, and identify the four Legionnaires?
Wow, tough one.
You used "natural causes", so that makes me think it involves death.
I'll hazard a guess and say the basic event was being on the run from their teammates or the authorities?
And the Legionnaires: Ultra Boy, Sun Boy, Chameleon Boy, Timber Wolf?
Not the basic event I had in mind, though one of the Legionnaires you mentioned is one I was thinking of.
Small hint: obviously, with "murder" as part of the riddle, death comes into it, but "natural causes" does not refer to death.
Hmm...
Legionnaires who had to be hospitalized?
Then I'll guess:
Timber Wolf
Star Boy
Projectra
Lightning Lad
Again, no. The event would probably be considered a bit more severe than that - and is something a bit more particular to superhero comics.
I'm extending Adventures-era continuity up to Zero Hour with this question, and if that is the case, this event is eventually undone in each case.
These would be reasons that Legionnaires were replaced.
1. Cosmic Boy naturally aged during his years with the Legion, noticeably beyong the "under 18" clause for new members. He retired and Magnetic Kid replaced him.
2. Sun Boy was killed by accidental exposure to Null Radiation. Wildfire used his body to replace him.
3. As a runaway, Live Wire's Legion membership created an uncomfortable political situation. Spark was called in to replace him.
4. Invisible Kid I was murdered by Validus. Invisible Kid II, using Lyle's formula, later replaced him.
Cosmic Boy, Sun Boy, Live Wire, Invisible Kid I
Good theory, not what I was looking for.
I'm not sure I could call Sun Boy's death accidental - he was actually killed by his lover in an act of mercy, right? Also, I'm talking about the actual Adventures-era Legionnaires in this question (assuming we can stretch their continuity out up to Zero-Hour, which is more or less what was intended at the time.) So using postboot Live Wire / Spark doesn't count.
Some hints:
- In each case, as I've said before, the event was eventually "undone"
- In one, it was all done and undone in one Silver-Age issue
- In another, it was done and undone over several Silver-Age issues
- In another it was done and undone over quite a few 5 Years Later issues
- In the last, it was done over a long time - from Adventures through Levitz, and was undone in the 5 Years Later era.
- The "political situation" is really a war
- Finally, Sun Boy has been guessed a few times, and is in fact one of the four characters in mind.
At first I was thinking of insanity or other mental issues like loss of identity, but I was having trouble thinking of which four would fit.
Based on your clues, though...
Sun Boy once lost his memory, I think via accident.
Mon-el's personality was slowly subsumed by Eltro Gand, and he become himself again 5YL.
Brainiac 5 also went insane over quite some time after the Silver Age.
Ultra Boy would have fit when he became Reflecto, but this was the same time frame as Brainy's. And Ultra Boy has been guessed, but is not on of the four.
I guessed that the political situation was a war, but I couldn't think of which one it was.
This is fun, though - if the question's still unanswered by the weekend, I'll go read through my Adventure Era issues to try to figure it out.
Still not what I had in mind. My answer can be given in a very straightforward phrase, moreso than "insanity or other mental issues" (although the circumstances were wildly different). However, it would be interesting to see how many Legionnaires had that happen to them as well! If that was the answer, than your guesses leave out the fairly obvious Matter-Eater Lad.
For the actual answer, there may be more than four examples of this but I can't think of them.
And I'm not promising that no other correct characters other than Sun Boy have been guessed - I was just giving him as a hint.
Another hint: the "murder" example is really, in a way, two murders - committed quite a long time apart (both in real life and in internal continuity).
Do you mean that there were two murders in internal continuity, and two murders in real life as well?
Good point on Matter-Eater Lad - I had thought of him then forgotten about him again. Ouch, poor Tenzil.
No - I just mean two murders in internal continuity that took place a long time apart in internal continuity, and were written a long time apart in real life. Both of them, together, were part of this "basic event" taking place in the life of one of our characters.
Another small hint is that this "murder" example is the only one of the four situations that was directly related to death.
How about...
Legionnaires who lost, and then regained, their powers?
Sun Boy lost his powers and regained them in one Adventure Era issue. Cause was natural, I believe.
Bouncing Boy lost his powers in the Adventure Era, then regained them towards the end of that era. He would lose and regain them again during the Bronze Age. Cause: accidentally bouncing into a shrinking ray.
Cosmic Boy lost his powers 5YL, but eventually regained them via special gloves towards Legion on the Run. Cause: depowered during the Braal-Imsk war.
Triplicate Girl lost one body in Adventure, then another one at the end of Levitz. She regained one body 5YL. Both her bodies were "murdered" - one by Computo, the other by the Time Trapper/Glorith.
Caveat: Lightning Lass could be said to have lost and regained her lightning powers, but one could argue her powers were merely altered and then altered again. The cause was not one of those you listed above.
Star Boy (his Superman-related abilities) and Projectra (ability to talk to the dead) also lost powers, but never regained them.
That's it! Good going. I didn't know Bouncing Boy lost his powers again. And I wasn't really counting Lightning Lass, Star Boy, or Projectra (didn't really remember Projectra ever had that power actually - was that a 5YL thing?) because they never actually became "powerless" like the others (unless Ayla did for an issue or two just before she got her lightning powers back?).
Anyway, you got it, you're up.
Whew! Congratulations, Xben. That was one tough question.
Thank goodness you threw out the Sun Boy clue. I really had to research his history to figure it out. And knowing that none of the others in my first guess were right helped narrow it down. I would have guessed amnesia, since Sun Boy came down with it once, but Ultra Boy did too so that couldn't be it.
I remember Projectra being able to talk to the dead in late Levitz, but the Emerald Eye stripped her of it to punish her for freeing Sarya from the Eye. The Eye did this during the Magic Wars.
I don't think Ayla ever did become totally powerless, so your question is totally sound.
I'll post a new question in a bit, hmmm.
What do the following Postboot Legionnaires have in common?
Cosmic Boy
Saturn Girl
Live Wire
Brainiac 5
Chameleon
Spark
Star Boy
Element Lad
M'Onel
Umbra
Sensor
Magno
Monstress
Kid Quantum II
Thunder
There may be more, but these are the ones I'm certain should be on this list.
Hmmm. Let's expand the clue, then.
The question has to do with places the Legionnaires visited after joining the Legion.
They all have been to Asteroid JS-1967?
They've all been to the 20th century?
KryptonKid, your answer would be correct except I don't remember Thunder ever being there. Also, several other Legionnaires (Invisible Kid, Kinetix, Violet, Karate Kid, Apparition, Ultra Boy, Gates) should also be on the list.
Blacula, same thing. I believe Kid Quantum II never went to the 2oth century, and several others should be on the list.
Another hint - these Legionnaires did not all visit the same places at the same time.
And another hint - Invisible Kid and Ferro could be on the list, if we were being highly technical. I excluded them, however. What do they have in common?
I'll throw out a few more hints in a couple of days.
Wow, have I killed this thread? hmmm.
Some bigger hints:
Thunder is on this list because of some place she visited in her civilian identity.
Magno and Umbra are on this list because of places they visited when they had a change in status with the team.
They've all been in an infirmary/hospital?
No, that's not the place I was thinking of.
More hints:
Chameleon and Sensor both went to these places willingly, but they did not want to spend much time there.
Kid Quantum II was heartbroken when she visited this place.
Star Boy and Monstress visited one place together. So did Live Wire and Spark.
Saturn Girl, Star Boy both invited others to their places.
Legionnaires who visited their homeworlds?
Good job, Future. Yup, these are Legionnaires who were shown visiting their homeworlds at least once after becoming Legionnaires.
Invisible Kid and Ferro technically don't count, since Legion HQ is on Earth - they never really "left".
You're up!
Which Legion villain was once defeated by a shoulder bag?
Oh, crap. I am pretty sure it was Light Lass who swung the bag, but I can't remember who she clobbered...
I'll randomly guess... Black Mace?
It was indeed Light Lass who swung the bag, but it wasn't against Black Mace, Luthor, or Magpie.
Hint #1: The villain in question doesn't use any weapons or trick gadgets.
Are we talking Adventure Era here? Hmmm...
Starfinger?

Cool, what story is this from? Sounds like a wonderful read.
I can't remember the issue number off-hand. I believe it was during the 210s of S&LSH? Also, I believe this is the issue where she sees him unmasked, thus the lack of a bubble helmet. Of course, that doesn't mean I don't have a scan of it lying around.
Ah, that would be Superboy # 219. The Fatal Five steal a bunch of stuff, and when the Legion stops them, we discover that they were only stealing the stuff so they could live more comfortable lives personally, so we should feel a little bad that the Legion stopped them. Because, you know, stealing is OK, as long as you plan to not bother anyone else after you're satisfied.
Thanks for the scan, Future! I don't know why Ayla would feel bad - that swing looks like something Karate Kid would be proud of.
Chaim, that does sound like an ineffective way to make the Fatal Five sympathetic. I guess the writer was trying to introduce some gray morality, but it didn't work.
What do the following pre-5YL Legionnaires have in common?
Lightning Lad
Light(ning) Lass
Projectra
Timber Wolf
Wildfire
Blok
White Witch
They all had a family member try to kill them/be evil?
I was thinking it would be family as well, but then Dream Girl ins't on the list...
They were all seduced/ tried to be turned evil by someone?
Garth - Evillo
Ayla - Mekt
Brin - Karth Arn
Jeckie - her grandma and cousin
Wildfire - the dream demon
Blok - Dark Man
Mysa - Mordru
Neither of those is what I was thinking about.
The commonality is something for which another group of Legionnaires is more famous.
Hmm... so there's another group of Legionnaires who also fit the criterion we're guessing at. These Legionnaires were intro'd 5YL or later, I imagine.
They... were thought dead and then returned?
Garth - the famous Adventure Era resurrection
Ayla - ?
Brin - when he was possessed by Tyr's gun hand, I think
Mysa - captured by Mordru then rescued?
Wildfire - Black Dawn
Jeckie - Dunno if she was thought dead when Orando was shunted to another dimension
Blok - ?
They all joined or left and then re-joined the Legion after their first appearance?
Wildfire has even a more obvious "thought dead and then returned" - he apparently died in his very first appearance. But that doesn't seem to fit everyone - just Garth and Brin as far as I can recall. Jeckie wasn't thought dead when her world left, as far as I know, and we're missing out on others like Ultra Boy (circa Reflecto storyline).
Yes, you're right. I'm actually just feeling around with this guess.
I think the biggest clue is that there's another group of Legionnaires more famous for this. EDE also specified that these were all pre 5YL Legionnaires, so that must be a clue too. I've been trying to find something in common with the new 5YL Legionnaires or the new Postboot ones, but can't really come up with anything.
Another interpretation is that something happened to some Legionnaires in the 5YL stories, but again I'm having trouble thinking what.
It also can't be rejoining the Legion, since Saturn Girl and Dream Girl would fit that too. I'm stumped, as of now.
Me too (stumped that is). The answer doesn't have to be about the new Legionnaires, though. It could be something more well known that happened to a particular group - like when DnA's Legion Lost guys were sent to another galaxy and thought dead. But I can't think of what the answer is either.
Is it something to do with being known by different "code names" names than they eventually came to be known by? I can think of examples of that with everyone but Blok. Maybe the other group that was better known for this was the Legion on the Run guys?
Yes, I was thinking too that the answer could be something like the Legion Lost crew, as long as it happened during 5YL or beyond.
I was also thinking it may have to do with that, but then Element Lad (aka Mystery Lad) should be on the list, and Blok doesn't fit.
(I love how we're collaborating on figuring out the answer!)
I also thought it might have to do with Mission Monitor Board symbols, but I think only Ayla and Blok among this group actually changed theirs.
I forgot about Mystery Lad.
What other "groups" of Legionnaires share an obvious common characteristic?
- The Founders
- Leaders
- Legion Lost (both versions)
- Legion on the Run
- Team 20
- ?
No one's got it so far.
Clarifying the hint:
There is a particular story featuring Legionnaires who all have something in common.
If this story were told at a different time, all of those on the above list would have qualified to be featured in the story.
There are a couple of other pre-5YL Legionnaires who may or may not qualify (e.g. Polar Boy) and thus whom I left off the list.
That's it.
In the case of the Ranzzes and Jeckie, they were orphaned after the original Legion orphans story. The rest are orphans who joined afterwards.
There's also Karate Kid, but I left him off because he wasn't included in the original orphans story.
Ah, that explains why Dream Girl was off the list - she was in the original story.
I'd thought we were looking at a particular story, but kept thinking it took place in the 5YL series.
Who is the most prominent (in terms of repeat appearances, and not considered dead as of the end of the 80's Legion series, not that this disqualified some) pre-Crisis Legion villain who did not fight the Legion in the Legion of 3 Worlds series?
Starfinger? (the 2nd, Levitz one)
Computo "died" during the Magic Wars, so he's disqualified.
Starfinger is the correct answer, as he appeared in LSH # 29, LSH # 40-41, and the extended story in LSH # 46-Annual 4. Also, he appeared in civilian form in LSH # 39.
I also would have accepted "the Khunds," but I can imagine that the question doesn't really seem to call for an entire alien race.
OK, this isn't going to sound like a Legion question but it really is...
What do classic JLA members Batman, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Atom, Hawkgirl (I think) and possibly Red Tornado have in common?
They've been shown having descendants in the Legion's time?
In Red Tornado's case, I guess that would be the mention of Wildfire possibly inhabiting Reddy's old android body.
Superman should probably be included in that list as well (through Laurel Kent) if that's the case.
That's not it - if it was, then yeah, Superman should be on the list, and if Hawkgirl was included than Hawkman should have been as well
The answer does have to do with the Pre-boot Legion especially (I can't remember if the link would be relevant with later boots)
Ah, forgot about Superman.
It's probably not JLA members who've met but haven't joined the Legion, since there have been others, I'm sure.
Well, this is going to sound a bit strange (and maybe the question is a bit borderline) but the answer has nothing to do with anything in particular that this group of characters ever did, and certainly not together. It has nothing to do with any particular storyline in particular.
I'm definitely thinking something about the pre-boot Legion with this question. I'm pretty sure this particular pre-boot concept was never repeated in later boots. It was never contradicted per se, but never actually specified again.
Is the connection that they would have all been ineligible for Legion membership, based on the pre-boot rules? All of their powers are device-based. (Though that doesn't explain the exclusion of Hawkman.)
That's a good guess, since I think all the above would fit. But the Postboot Legion also specified that all powers must be internal.
Hmmm...
I didn't remember. But now I'm also thinking that my answer doesn't make sense, because Batman is more than just his utility belt, he's a (near) Karate Kid-level fighter, so if KK was allowed to join, so should Batman have been.
No, CMK is correct. The answer is that they would have been ineligible for Legion membership because they didn't have internal powers.
- Hawkman doesn't count because apparently he had the super-power to talk to birds back in the day (something I couldn't find any evidence that she shared).
- I wasn't sure about Red Tornado since he was basically an artificial being in the first place
- I hadn't thought of the Batman thing, I guess that's arguable. (Although nobody ever said he knew "super-karate"!)
- If the postboot had that same specific rule, I apologize. I don't remember it ever being specifically expressed, although I know they kept the Glorithverse idea of Kid Quantum dying because his belt malfunctioned.
- Of course, a lot of the others would have been ineligible for other reasons - power duplication, and of course age. Based on all of that, perhaps Firestorm is the only JLA member who would have been able to join the Legion.
Well, what do you know. I shouldn't have doubted myself. I totally forgot the Hawkman talking-to-birds thing. As for Batman, his fighting might never have been called "super-karate", but surely if he were applying in the same manner that Karate Kid did, he'd have made just as good a fight against Superboy that impressed the Legion into allowing him membership.
Still, a win is a win...so my question is...
Name the one issue in which Tyroc was depicted with a beard.
Unless they bring up that Firestorm duplicates the powers of Wildfire, Phantom Girl, and Element Lad
I remember that being the "rule" against Wildfire joining original - sure, he had a lot of powers demonstrated (Condo's, Tinya's, Gim's and Violet's, if I remember right), but no unique one.
But that was a good question, Xben - and good going to CMK.
Anyway, the Postboot rule was mentioned in Legionnaires 43 and Legion Secret Files 2. Not sure if it was mentioned in Legionnaires 37 too.
Interesting tidbit about Hawkman, by the way.
Firestorm's transmutation powers were a lot more advanced than Element Lad's, I'm pretty sure - couldn't he fully change one object to another? Much more specific breaking down than from one element to another. Anyway...
Was Tyroc depicted with a beard in LSH #300 - the adult Legion vision where they all become soldiers? (Is that the one Cockrum drew?)
Originally posted by Xben:
- Hawkman doesn't count because apparently he had the super-power to talk to birds back in the day (something I couldn't find any evidence that she shared).
Hmm... he gained this ability through the absorbascon, which basically downloaded all Earth knowledge (including knowledge of all languages, including birds) into his brain. I can't remember if she used it as well or not...
You nailed it, XBen, that's the one. Back to you.
OK - which Legionnaire was...
- presumed dead in the preboot
- presumed dead again, and also a team leader (but not for the LSH), in the postboot
- not a team leader in the threeboot, and not (as far as I remember) shown to be part of any significant romantic relationships
Neither is who I have in mind, and I can't think of how either of those characters fit all of criteria, unless I'm forgetting something.
Phantom Girl / Apparition?
That's it.
She was presumed dead as of the start of 5YL during the preboot. Presumed dead again during the postboot after White Triangle, and one of her half Carggite (Cargggite?) bodies was revealed to be Phase of L.E.G.I.O.N., who though not top dog, was certainly a leader of that team.

Timber Wolf was presumed dead in SUPERBOY # 197, and he was leader of a gang on Rimbor before joining the Legion in the reboot.
I did not remember if he had been presumed dead in the reboot, and I have no knowledge of the threeboot, but, hey, it was worth a shot.
Going by a very distant memory for this question so hopefully I'm not forgetting anything -
When Mano appeared as a gang/crime-lord once, a member of which Legionnaire's race was shown assisting him?
Wow, no memory of this, but at a wild guess I'll say Tellus
Trust your gut - you got it Xben. (It was during the SW6 era by the way.)
Wow, cool! New question soon.
When Dynamo-Boy took over the Legion and sought new members, who were the four applicants that he rejected before Lightning Lord and his colleagues showed up?
And who was the only applicant of the four who wasn't rejected because of problems with his powers (not effective powers, not in full control of the powers, etc.)?
As I recall:
The Polecat
Golden Boy
Animal Lad
Tusker
Animal Lad was rejected because he was incorruptible.
That was quick! You're up, EDE.
Another rejected Legion applicants question:
Which applicant has been identified as having three distinct power sets according to different sources, and what were they?
Rainbow Girl? In her initial appearance (ADV 309) she just had a pretty but useless rainbow glow, then I think in Who's Who in the LSH it said she had pheremone control power, and finally, in the Geoff Johns Action Comics stories, her rainbow colors manipulated the (Johns GL creation) emotional spectrum.
It's Rainbow Girl, though I don't believe her powers were specified in her first appearance.
The other power I was looking for was the "power to split into four separate forms, each a different color and with a different power (Red - super-heat; blue-super-cold; yellow - super brightness; green - Kryptonite rays.", as suggested in the Bits of Legionnaire Business Lettercol.
Anyway, your move, cmk.
During the Crisis on Infinite Earths, fifteen heroes were selected to go, 5 each, to Earths X, S and 4 (Charlton) to save them from the Anti-Monitor. Which two Legionnaires were amongst these fifteen, and which Earth or Earths were they dispatched to?
Blok to Earth 4 and Supergirl to Earth S.
Kinetix loves changing outfits - one of her claims to fame is being the Postboot Legionnaire with the most costume changes (although many of them were minor - adding frills, a skirt, removing gloves, adding a cape).
This extends to her civilian wear too.
How many different swimsuits has Zoe worn?
I don't recall her wearing that many, KK. Civilian outfits, certainly, but not swimsuits.
Er, anyone want to guess again?
EDE got it - Zoe was shown wearing three swimsuits, all in the same issue, Legionnaires 77. You're up!
Which Legionnaires dismantled and hid parts of a weapon in the twentieth century?
Hmm, I think I remember this story.
Sun Boy
Phantom Girl
Chameleon Boy
Cosmic Boy
Lightning Lad
Saturn Girl?
Sun Boy
Phantom Girl
Colossal Boy
Cosmic Boy
Lightning Lad
Saturn Girl
Sun Boy
Phantom Girl
Cosmic Boy
Lightning Lad
Saturn Girl
Superboy
Nope!
There's four right in that guess!
How about
Sun Boy
Cosmic Boy
Lightning Lad
Saturn Girl
Chameleon Boy
Ultra Boy
There's 4 right in that guess as well!
Hint: Considering the title of the story might be useful.
I wonder why the Legion so often thought the 20th century was a good place to hide things? It was the only time they've been known to visit so often. (Or ever?)
If I were hunting any Legionnaires and they chronally vanished, the first place I'd look is with their ancient inspiration and chronic teammate Superboy.
Weeeeeeeeeell they just had to write Superboy in somehow.
Saturn Girl
Lightning Lad
Superboy
Chameleon Boy
Sun Boy
Brainiac 5

Not only that but either a) it risks the item being discovered by the wrong people in the 20th century or b) it still being there by the 30th century, where the villains can still dig it up and use it. Really not a particularly well thought out plan.
Still not right Ibby!
Following up on my last hint:
The story is called "The Secret of the Seventh Super-Hero!"
Okay, new hint: there's one character who has been on every list thus far who is incorrect.
Cosmic Boy
Phantom Girl
Chameleon Boy
Sun Boy
Saturn Girl
Bouncing Boy
Element Lad
Cosmic Boy
Lightning Lad
Chameleon Boy
Phantom Girl
Sun Boy
Triplicate Girl
Colossal Boy
Still only four.
Hint: There were six parts to the weapon.
OK, getting somewhere now...
Cosmic Boy
Lightning Lad
Chameleon Boy
Phantom Girl
Saturn Girl
Invisible Kid
That's five right, Xben! And, yes, you are definitely making progress!
How about...
Lightning Lad
Cosmic Boy
Phantom Girl
Chameleon Boy
Saturn Girl
Brainiac 5
That's right!
Sun Boy was, of course, the "seventh super-hero" of the title, who supposedly showed up to retrieve the pieces, but wasn't one of those who originally hid the weapon.
Which three Legionnaires appear to be balancing / standing / sitting on Colossal Boy on Neal Adam's wraparound cover for DC 100 Page Super Spectacular #DC-8 / Batman #238?
Hints: It was published in 1972 but reprinted an Adventures-era story, I believe. There are two male characters, one female character.
Random guess -
Shrinking Violet, Invisible Kid, Matter-Eater-Lad.
None right.
Another hint: None of the characters were born on earth.
A second hint: Two of the characters, technically, made their debut in the same issue.
Phantom Girl, Triplicate Girl, Dream Girl?
Sun Boy, Shadow Lass, Mon-el?
Chameleon Boy, Phantom Girl, Shrinking Violet
Only Blacula has guessed one character correct. The rest of the guesses are all wrong.
Reminder on the hints:
- 2 male characters, 1 female
- none are born on earth
- 2 of the characters, technically, first appeared in the same issue (there could be debate on this, but I think it's true)
New Hint:
- It would be evident by looking at them that one of the characters, though humanoid, is not human
- One of the characters later died (still in Preboot)
Brainiac Five, Shrinking Violet, Chemical King.
One right, EDE.
Remember, all previous guesses, except for one of Blacula's, have been wrong.
Chemical King, Shadow Lass, Ultra Boy
Chemical King, Shadow Lass, Timber Wolf
EDE and IB both have two correct. Possibly, they are the same two.
Chemical King, Shadow Lass, Element Lad
Still not quite it. The one you're missing had their first appearance before the one you got wrong, but their second appearance after.
Chemical King, Shadow Lass, Dream Girl
Chemical King, Shadow Lass, Star Boy.
Chemical King, Shadow Lass, Star Boy.
Chemical King, Shadow Lass, Princess Projectra
Both EDE and Dave Hackett have it correct! But as EDE squeaked his answer in earlier, he is up.
Retro, a Legion cadet in the Postboot?
Retro it is.
Ah, obscure Legion characters. We
them so much.
Kinetix was renowned for changing her costume most often in the Postboot Legion.
I can think of at least 6 Legionnaires who changed costumes immediately after becoming Legionnaires, and 5 more who changed costumes during their Legion tenure. (That is, these 5 changed costumes after they had served as Legionnaires for a while.).
Name the 6 Legionnaires who changed costumes upon gaining Legion membership, and the 4 who changed costumes later on in their careers.
Sensor doesn't count since she doesn't wear a costume. I don't count Live Wire as Jarth either, since his whole physical form changed. Andromeda doesn't count, since her nun's habit change came AFTER she left the team. Finally, I'm not counting Inferno (Sandy) as an official Legionnaire.
Here's what I could come up with. My numbers are kind of flipped from the questions.
Changed costumes when they joined:
Gear (debatable - the original yellow/blue number he had only appeared in one issue and could have been rec wear)
Kid Quantum II (added emblem)
M'onel
Monstress
Ultra Boy
Changed costumes during membership:
Apparition (sort of - her resurrection left her with a different one)
Brainiac 5
Kinetix
Shrinking Violet
Triad
Umbra
And technically I suppose Leviathan and Saturn Girl changed 'uniforms', going from S.P. duty to Legion duty. Not sure if Kid Quantum I and Star Boy "changed costumes" since in flashbacks Thom was depicted in the same costume minus the belt rather than the Planetary Champion outfits. The same is presumably true, then, for Kid Quantum I.
You got most of the ones I was thinking of, for the ones who changed costumes during membership. I didn't count Kinetix for the 2nd part, since she was a giveaway.
Good catch in Apparition - her costume change was so minute that I didn't think to include her in my list.
Upon reviewing, Leviathan also changed his costume by removing his headgear, and Monstress had minute changes to her costume after she turned orange.
You also got four of the ones I thought of for Part 1. I forgot about Gear. Wildfire and Shikari rounded out my last.
In any case, you get the next Q!
I thought about Wildfire after I posted, but had forgotten about Shikari. Good catch.
Dream Girl has predicted the "death" of a hero on more than one occasion. Name 9 of those heroes. As a bonus question, which Legionnaire has she predicted to die two different times?
Er, I remember that story where a lot of them come from, of course, but as to who featured in it...
Let's guess...
Star Boy
Lightning Lad
Colossal Boy
Matter-Eater Lad
Chameleon Boy
Sun Boy
Mon-El
Cosmic Boy
Magnetic Kid
And is the two-time death hero Chameleon Boy? I seem to vaguely remember something from the Bronze age...
By the way, it's funny how my memories of that Adventure-era where Dream Girl tricks a bunch of heroes out of the Legion for their own good get mixed up with my memories of the similar-era story where Saturn Girl tricks a bunch of heroes out of the Legion for their own good! Those crazy Legion ladies - if only they would just tell people what was going on instead of embarking on their mad schemes!
My guess:
Lightning Lad
Bouncing Boy
Matter-Eater Lad
Duo Damsel
Lightning Lass
Ultra Boy
Shrinking Violet
Karate Kid
Mon-el

Well, I'd forgotten Gear so good catch back! And I didn't really think anyone else would list down Apparition.

Poor communication kills, Xben. I remember the last Adventure Era story involved Superboy, Supergirl and Dream Girl conspiring to strand a bunch of Legionnaires on a distant planet because she predicted Legion HQ would be attacked.
Hello! If the Legionnaires still didn't trust Nura's predictions by then, then they have no business being Legionnaires. In Lester Spiffany's words,
Xben got 3 of the heroes I was potentially thinking of, while IB got 8.
I don't have every Legion adventure from the Bronze age memorized, so the only one I can't completely confirm from IB's list is Mon-el.
The heroes I was thinking of were:
Bouncing Boy, Lightning Lad, Lightning Lass, Matter-Eater Lad, Shrinking Violet, Triplicate Girl, and Ultra Boy from Dreamy's inaugural issue. They, of course, turned out to be robot duplicates.
Next, I was thinking of Karate Kid. Dreamy predicted him to die both earlier in the 70s as well as his actual death in the 80s. The first prediction she mis-interpreted him passing out and the second prediction she knew of his death, just simply not that it was Val.
Dreamy also predicted the death of Mentalla, which is why I used the word "heroes" instead of Legionnaires for most of the question.
I also would have accepted Star Boy, as postboot Dreamer predicted a gravestone for him that ultimately never came to pass.
Your go, IB.
I think Mon-El's death was predicted in the story that introduced Eltro Gand.
Good point on Mentalla. I don't know why I didn't include Star Boy, since I clearly remember that plot point in the Postboot Legion.
I can think of 16 Legionnaires who have encountered one of Lori Morning's Hero-dial personalities. I'm not counting the ones who met her in LSH 105, since the whole team was present. Name the 16.
This is (almost) a complete guess.
Live Wire
Brainiac 5
Saturn Girl

Re: predicting deaths, there's also Adv. #380, in which Dreamy predicts the apparent death of a number of Legionnaires, and then, after tricking them into space, uses robot duplicates to make her prediction come true without any actual deaths. It's kind of the reverse of the plot of her debut, in a way.

Ah, forgot about that. IIRC the cast included Bouncing Boy, Duo Damsel, Ultra Boy, Invisible Kid I, Cosmic Boy and Sun Boy. Not sure if I missed any.

She encountered Chuck Taine twice - don't think he counts though.
Actually, Future, I would have accepted Chuck Taine since he was an Honorary Legionnaire.
In any case, you're up, Future! Good show.
For the full breakdown (issue - Legionnaire - Lori identity)
Legionnaires 51 - Chuck Taine - unnamed redhead with star-spangled hair and skirt
Legionnaires 53 - Lori appears as Slipstream and Fireball but doesn't actually meet any Legionnaires
Legionnaires 55 - Kinetix, Violet, Live Wire, Monstress, Element Lad, Star Boy - Chiller
Legionnaires 58 - XS, Triad - Ink
Adventures Comics 80-page giant 1 - Cosmic Boy, Live Wire (2nd time), Saturn Girl, Kid Quantum II, Ferro - Blip
Legionnaires 69 - Saturn Girl (2nd time), Monstress (2nd time), Apparition, Ultra Boy - Plasma
Legionnaires 81 - Brainiac 5, Invisible Kid, Element Lad (2nd time), Chuck Taine (2nd time) - Helios
Name 12 Legionnaires, across all realities, who have graduated from the Legion Academy.
Dawnstar
Chemical King
Timber Wolf
Magnetic Kid
Tellus
Nightwind
Dragonwing
Chemical Kid
Comet Queen
Glorith
Crystal Kid (not sure if he counts, since in the 5 Year Gap, the Academy closed before he actually graduated)
Karate Kid II (same as above)
I actually do count Crystal Kid and Karate Kid II. I figure they probably completed more Academy classes in the Glorithverse than most of the current kids have in the Retroboot, after all.
Back to you.
They probably are better trained, at that.
Hmm...
Rank the ff. Postboot Legionnaires in order by weight, heaviest to lightest. Expect quite a few ties.
Karate Kid
Ferro
Brainiac 5
Cosmic Boy
Invisible Kid
Live Wire
Chameleon
Star Boy
M'Onel
Element Lad
Ultra Boy
What does the ff. stand for?
Was this info revealed somewhere? I don't remember it.
HEAVIEST
Ferro (when powered up)
M'Onel
Ultra Boy
Cosmic Boy
Brainiac 5
Star Boy
Live Wire
Karate Kid

Gah! That
Adventure Comics Giant infuriated me SO much! I was all excited to see the Legion get some spotlight in another title and it was a frakkin' Lori-Morning-saves-the-day story!
The fact that PMS were SO intent on forcing that crappy character on us just shows how out of touch they were with the readers during that period (IMO the lowest period in Legion history until the Threeboot came along).
No dice, Blacula. Several Legionnaires out of order there. (If you factor the heights in, the weights give an interesting view of which male Legionnaires are beefier and which ones are more slim!)
Sorry, ff. just means "following".
And yes, I can think of 3 sources for the weights. One source gives all of their weights except for Karate Kid.
Another source gives the weights for everyone except Karate Kid and Ferro.
The last one gives the weights of Karate Kid and Ferro.
And yeah, that story was AWFUL - though it gave Kid Quantum II a much-needed spotlight, at least.
re: The Adventure Comics 80-Page Giant ... the art was sure pretty though. I also believe it was the first story (and one of the few of that era) where we ever saw Kid Quantum II in action without one of the other Xanthian Legionnaires running around. Random fun fact.
My guesses without consulting the source material:
M'Onel
Ultra Boy
Star Boy
Karate Kid
Cosmic Boy
Ferro
Invisible Kid
Live Wire
Chameleon
Element Lad
Brainiac 5
Nope. Not right either, Future.
I'll post the guys' heights; based on body type, it might help make ranking easier.
Cosmic Boy - 5'7
Live Wire - 5'10
Invisible Kid - 5'6
Chameleon - 5'9
Brainiac 5 - 5'7
Star Boy - 5'5
M'Onel - 6'1
Element Lad - 5'5
Ultra Boy - 5'8
Karate Kid - 5'8
Ferro - 5'7
I just realized there's a FOURTH source that gives the height and weight for 5 of these Legionnaires plus Leviathan. Unfortunately, Brainiac 5 and Chameleon have different weights listed in that source.
I'll stick to the weights listed in the two sources that came out last, chronologically.
Now, I'm not a particularly tall guy, but... At 5'9, I'm taller than all of the above except Chameleon, M'Onel and Live Wire (and Leviathan, who measures in at 5'11). Since Ultra Boy got married to Apparition at 5'8... I'd assume the Legionnaires were around 18-19 at that time, and therefore the guys were close to their full height.
Okay, a few hints...
One Legionnaire is at 130 lbs.
One is at 135
One is at 140
Three are at 145
One is at 150
Two are at 155
One is at 160
One is at 165
The ones at 155 and 160, and especially the one at 150, are packing quite a bit of muscle - considering that after months of intensive gym work, I at 5'9' only managed 145 lbs.
The shortest Legionnaire is NOT the lightest, but the tallest Legionnaire IS the heaviest.
Okay, here's a list with some filled in
HEAVIEST
M'Onel
? - 160 lbs
Ferro
Ultra Boy

? - 145 lbs
? - 145 lbs

Star Boy is only 5'5"?! I would have pegged him as one of the taller ones.
You got 2/6 right!
I always thought Star Boy was tall, too - I guess he's more beefy than tall?
I wonder how the Postboot Legion would look under George Perez pencils... after all, Perez is one of the few artists who really makes it a point to draw characters with body type differences.
Perez did draw the Postbooters in Legion of Three Worlds - I don't remember if the body differences came through there or not
*facepalm* how could I forget? I'll have to go back and check.
M'Onel
Cosmic Boy
Ferro
Ultra Boy
Karate Kid
Chameleon
Live Wire
Star Boy
Element Lad
Brainiac 5
Invisible Kid
3/6 right for you, Future. Xben had two right in his guess, but none of the ones he got right are correct in your guess.
I'll fill one more Legionnaire in:
HEAVIEST
M'Onel
? - 160 lbs
Ferro
Ultra Boy
? - 150 lbs
? - 145 lbs
? - 145 lbs
Chameleon
Element Lad
? - 135 lbs
Invisible Kid
LIGHTEST
HEAVIEST
M'Onel
Cosmic Boy
Ferro
Ultra Boy
Karate Kid
Star Boy
Live Wire
Chameleon
Element Lad
Brainiac 5
Invisible Kid
LIGHTEST
2/5 right, Xben. One of those is one of those Future got right.
Two of your mistakes are switched exactly the same way that Future switched two of his mistakes.
Okay, I've filled in a few more. Only three left:
Star Boy
Live Wire
Star Boy
HEAVIEST
M'Onel
? - 160 lbs
Ferro
Ultra Boy
? - 150 lbs
? - 145 lbs
Cosmic Boy
Chameleon
Element Lad
Brainiac 5
Invisible Kid
LIGHTEST
For whatever reason I find it hard to try to interpret the clues on this question, so I'm really only one step above just guessing here.
HEAVIEST
M'Onel
Karate Kid - 160 lbs
Ferro
Ultra Boy
Live Wire - 150 lbs
Star Boy - 145 lbs
Cosmic Boy
Chameleon
Element Lad
Brainiac 5
Invisible Kid
LIGHTEST
I guess it's difficult because we're talking about rankings. Plus, 3 of the guys tie at 145 lbs.
You got one right, Xben! So just switch two of the guys and your guess will be 100% right.
It just feels too cumbersome to go through the information presented to logically deduce what's going on. I assume with so few variables left and with so many prior guesses, that the right answer is in there some place, but it's too much to go and find it.
HEAVIEST
M'Onel
Star Boy - 160 lbs
Ferro
Ultra Boy
Live Wire - 150 lbs
Karate Kid - 145 lbs
Cosmic Boy
Chameleon
Element Lad
Brainiac 5
Invisible Kid
LIGHTEST
Good point. I almost gave up and gave the right answer, but you're awfully close and will probably get it with the next guess.
I guess we'll be stopping with these types of questions soon, not only here but on Know Your Legion Worlders.
You didn't put any of the guys in the right slot this time.
OK, how about...
HEAVIEST
M'Onel
Star Boy - 160 lbs
Ferro
Ultra Boy
Karate Kid
Live Wire
Cosmic Boy
Chameleon
Element Lad
Brainiac 5
Invisible Kid
LIGHTEST
One right. You have to switch two of the guys again.
Oops - accidentally put Star Boy down in that last guess in the same slot as in my "all wrong" guess.
HEAVIEST
M'Onel
Karate Kid - 160 lbs
Ferro
Ultra Boy
Star Boy - 150 lbs
Live Wire - 145 lbs
Cosmic Boy
Chameleon
Element Lad
Brainiac 5
Invisible Kid
LIGHTEST
You got it! whew.
It's surprisingly hard to guess, huh? Especially since Star Boy at 5'5 is actually heavier than even Garth at 5'10!
OK, during a meeting of the Legion back in the early days, while the team was interviewing new candidates for the team (including Lester Spiffany and Storm Boy) three heroes were busy off world on solo missions on the planets Grykk, Lumbak, and Ferno. Name the three heroes, and what they were up to.
Ultra-Boy was fighting a lead monster, Phantom Girl was opening a criminal lair from the inside, and Colossal Boy was fighting a giant monster. Cosmic Boy was using the voyeur devise that kept him single for all those years.
That's pretty much it, good job.
In the preboot, when Lightning Lad was leader, Chameleon Boy took two other Legionnaires on an unauthorized mission. Which Legionnaires did he take and how did they disguise themselves?
(Bonus Question: what color is my hat?)
Colossal Boy and Chameleon Girl (still playing the role as Vi). They disguised themselves as a meteor when they landed on Khundia.
Uh--Gun-metal gray?
First part: yer half right.
Second part: not exactly what I was looking for, but yer right there with it.
Bonus: Yes, today it is gun-metal gray with red spinner on top.
Timber Wolf and Yera (disguised as Vi; not really called Chameleon Girl in actual Preboot)
they disguised themselves twice: once as a meteor, and then once on Khundia, they used Distorters to disguise themselves as Khunds.
yeah, but what color is my hat?
That's what I was looking for. Yer up, Kent!
