I see the BoP article... and Superman.
16. Superman
17. "multi-color" lantern book
The Lantern Corps: Taste the colors of the Rainbow
18. Batwoman
Okay, with this announcement, I am almost POSITIVE now that some of these books will be taking place on various of the 52 "multiple earths"....
There's a TEEN TITANS article! Brett Booth looks to be the artist... a good choice. If it is a reboot of any sort, I will definitely buy it. If it is a ridiculous death-fest of any kind, I will never be fooled again.
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2011/06/02/dc-relaunch-teen-titans-1/
Ooh, Brett Booth was one of my favorite 'finds' from the Image days. Nice clean lines. Although he's got a thing for lots of animal people and dinosaurs, from what I recall.
ASSLOAD of new titles just announced:
Wonder Woman
Aquaman

Mr. Terrific #1
DC Comics Presents #1
Fury of Firestorm #1
Green Arrow #1
Aquaman #1
Hawkman #1
JLI #1
wow....love the artworks...esp Hawkman and his BFM! and Mr. Terrific.
Good to go for now:
Legion Lost
Flash
Justice League International
Good to go as long as they maintain my interest:
Justice League
Aquaman
Fury of Firestorm
The Maybe I might:
OMAC - Dang it Giffen, you had to team with Dandie!?!?!
Batman & Detective - Depends on which one Snyder is writing.
Teen Titans - Need to see the team...creative and the lineup.
Superman - If the rumors are true, then I amm on board.
Mr. Terrific - Just because I like the character. need to see creative team.
Green Arrow - Dan J is on this, so it has possibilities...
The creative team for Mr. Terrific is Roger Robinson on penciling duties, and the writing is Eric Wallace. As in the guy who redeemed and subsequently turned Osiris into an ass, and is currently writing Titans.
Gonna be a in store grab thing on Mr. Terrific then. Not familiar with either of them.
Teen Titans is by Fabian N. I may actually give it a shot, depending on the lineup.
Actually, I heard Fabian isn't on Teen Titans now (per Bleeding Cool). We'll have to see...
DC should just release the listings. This whole bleeding things into a little here and there is getting annoying.

you can check newsarama.com out and they do have information on that too but oh boy...too scattered away throughout their site....so I prefer Bleeding cool over it because they have a tab where you can keep checking for more info on DC #1 book titles.
25. Green Lantern Corps
26. Red Lanterns
16. Green Lantern: The New Guardians (this is the "Spectrum" Lanterns book)
Lobdell on TEEN TITANS: I enjoyed his humorous approach to ALPHA FLIGHT a few years back... I'm leaning toward checking it out; who the cast is will decide for me...
I think I am done with the GL titles. Too much to try to follow one story.
I may limit myself quite a bit overall, and stick with a handfull of titles at most from the main DCU. Too much other stuff to read/add to my list.
Hmmm. the more I think about it...DC may have just lost a major supporter in this guy. We'll see how I feel tomorrow.
I like Red Lanterns!!! and can't wait to see Atro, Dex-Starr, Bleez, Vox, etc....whoo hoo....and maybe the New Guardians.

A shame that this is exactly the opposite of DC's goal.
Does anyone suppose they're so serious about this "good jumping on place" idea that they'll simplify the stories to the point of self contained stories for a year or so? Or heaven forbid, even self contained
issues once in a while?
If they're really hoping to get and keep new readers, I hope they don't ignore the basics of accessibility.
That's the chance they take by doing something like this. One day, I think it might be alright, the next...not so much.
It gives people that are buying out of habit time to think about what they are buying...and make changes if necessary.
If I thought that Icould actually buy Green Lantern and get to read a story without having to buy 6 - 8 months of multiple part crossovers a year, I might think about continuing with it. That just isn't the case with Johns run so far.
As for Red Lanterns...I personally do not see how they are going to carry their own book for more than a year at best. But that's just me.
Not to sound defeatist, but I'm fairly certain 50% of these 52 titles will be gone with issue 12.
BUT... I also think DC is well aware of this.
Seems like a case of throwing it on the wall and see what sticks, then go from there.
Which is a plan.... of a sort...
I would be shocked if we don't see #3 for half.
Is everything supposed to be monthly? Because this could make a whole lot of sense if most of them are bi-monthly. It just doesn't seem sensible that if you can't manage to sell 30 monthlies to change everything and hope to sell 52.
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2011/06/03/dc-comics-relaunch-vigilante-1/ Speculation on Bleeding Cool...but if this is true...sign me up...as soon as possible. This would be so awesome!!!
Legion
Nightwing (If it stars Dick Grayson)
Firestorm
Hawkman
after that, GL if it stars Hal, and then I don't honestly know. Most of the DC books I'm buying are the smaller books, not the Sup/Bat stuff.
I honestly see this as a "losing me" point over a jumping on point.
Jeepers! That looks pretty incredible!
It looks so cool that I can't believe it will happen! No official word yet, but if it does happen I will add it to the "All-New All-Now September Pull List for DC" I am making...
We know Cooke will be doing a Vigilante story--no word when or if part of an anthology / miniseries / etc.
Can't wait for it!
So far, I'll try:
Hawkman
Justice League
Justice League International
Legion Lost
Any word on the JSA or Power Girl?
Spoilers Alert (due to leaking) ---
Catwoman #1 and Swamp Thing #1
http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=371741 POST #96 is the one that will show the covers.
NIGHTWING also gets a new look and series.

3. Nightwing
4. Batgirl
5. Hawkman
6. Aquaman

30. Batman: The Dark Knight
31. Superboy
Bleeding Cool says it is one of THREE books Scott Lobdell is writing. He's also supposedly on TEEN TITANS... looks like he's getting all the younger heroes...
I think it is important to note than only the following titles have been confirmed by DC; the rest on my list are Bleeding Cool rumors:
- Justice League
- Wonder Woman
- Aquaman
- The Flash
- The Fury of Firestorm
- The Savage Hawkman
- Green Arrow
- Justice League International
- Mister Terrific
- Captain Atom
- DC Universe Presents
- Green Lantern
- Green Lantern Corps
- Green Lantern: The New Guardians
- Red Lanterns
- Detective Comics
- Batman
- Batman and Robin
- Batman: The Dark Knight
I could be persuaded to check out a new GL book if it was more in the spirit of the cartoons. I do have unholy amounts of love for that version of John Stewart.
DC must be expecting a big surge of interest in all things GL because of the movie.
May it do them good.

Some more officials, including an Oracle-free BoP

May it do them good. Actually, Green Lantern has been DCs best selling franchise for a few years now (maybe rivaled by Batman), so seeing them continue to work it is no big surprise.
I'm waiting to see what the rest of the day brings, but I'm shocked that it looks like they may cut Batman Inc. short. It was one of their sure-fire sellers.
Hmm...BOP looks like Black Canary, Poison Ivy, Renee Montoya (not in Question costume on the cover) and some Japanese girl (doesn't look like Katana - maybe the JSA's Judomaster in a new costume?).
Batman & Robin will feature Damien as Robin. No word on Tim Drake.
Ugh. If Damien is Robin and Tim Drake is written out, that will infuriate me. Moreso than anything else that DC could do.

Moreso than Jason Todd LEADING a group with Arsenal and Starfire?

Wow! I hadn't seen that! That might be the first
really, really bad relaunch comic to show-up so far!
1. Justice League
2. DC Universe Presents (starring Deadman)
3. Nightwing
4. Batgirl
5. Hawkman
6. Aquaman
7. Legion Lost

30. Batman: The Dark Knight
31. Superboy
32. Animal Man
33. Red Hood & the Outlaws
34. Batwing (getting WAAAAAAAAY Bat-heavy)
Animal Man is supposedly by Jeff Lemiure...of Superboy and Atom fame. Lessee...one of my favorite characters, by a good writer that writes good hero comics...I'm on board for that one.
Okay. Snyder on Batman makes me happy. Best decision so far in my opinion.
Gail writing Batgirl...sign me up for the first arc at the very least.

Based on Batman Inc 6, I'm guessing that we'll see a Click Here For A SpoilerRed Robin and the Outsiders book announced soon that will feature Tim. Given the dreck that's been published under that name lately, I really hope they get a good team for the book.
Definite buys:
7. Legion Lost
9. Batman
19. Flash
23. Justice League International
32. Animal Man
Gonna try...maybe one issue, maybe an arc:
1. Justice League
4. Batgirl
8. Omac
17. Superman
I like the Red Hood cover.
Who's the artist?
Underwhelmed until now, but these look great!
Frankenstein, Swamp Thing, Animal man, JLA Dark.

34. Batwing
35. Justice League Dark
36. Demon Knights
37. Frankenstein, Agent of SHADE
oh boy....I am intrigued by the new books: Batwing, JLDark (Madame Xanadu!!!!), Frankenstein (hoping to see F's Bride there - she's so funny cool!).
Bill S. drew the best Animal Man cover....his drawing makes the animal look REAL (elephant, giraffe, eagle....)!
DC just confirmed "I, Vampire", "Resurrection Man" & "Vodoo" as three more titles to round out the "Dark" titles.
Only one Legion book and no dotLEGION?
Tipical DC.

Rickshaw's gonna be one happy camper about the extremely unexpected return of Resurrection Man!
Scott Snyder on Swamp Thing, eh? Def gonna give that one a chance!
JL Dark also looks to be a must-have!

Tipical DC. Actually, DC has only officially announced 34 of the books on Lash's list (and Legion's not one of them). So there's still 18 books to be revealed and though its doubtful we'll get more than one Legion book, its not impossible.

Some of these titles are very interesting. Writers like Scott Snyder are ones I'll certainly follow but writers who have let me down like Judd Winnick and Paul Cornell are ones that make my choices easier by letting me cross them off (sorry Selena and Etrigan, two characters I really like).
I expect the Superman comics will all be announced together like the Batman ones and the Legion will be included. The question is if Superman when he was a boy will be included as a cast member of the Legion.
LASH included Legion Lost, so I thought that was all we were going to get.
still
for some odd reasons, I have a weird feeling that we may see three possible books maybe four - The New Gods, The Great Disaster starring Kamandi, Hawk/Dove, and Amethyst. hmm i am again interested in reading I ...Vampire....Resurrection Man!!!!!!!! and voodoo.
I'm going to try I, Vampire for the first time.
I'd *love* to see a Kamandi book!!
Yeah Legion Lost has not been confirmed by DC (yet).
Uh oh. I'm in trouble. With today's announcements of some of my favorite supernatural DC stars, I now want to buy more titles than I can afford.

Gotta agree with you here.
...damnit DC, you know what buttons to press! I haven't felt this conflicted since I went to Conflict Con 2010.
I'll say this, the I Vampire revamp (redundant word play, I get it) screams "Twilight".
Here's what has me interested...
Animal Man: I'm more curious in regards to Maxine.
Batgirl: If Gail Simone can make Babs as important and relevant as Batgirl as she was as Oracle...
Batwing: I'd be more enthusiastic, but Judd Winnick...
Batwoman: I was already planning on getting this.
Demon Knights: The cover art is gorgeous.
Flash: Francis Manapul writing AND illustrating. That takes balls. I'm in.
Resurrection Man: And it's by the guys who created him and wrote the original YES!
Red Hood and the Outlaws: Only for Roy's sake. But this all depends on what Scott Lobdell says.
Teen Titans: They're getting rid of the guy who wrote Rise of Arsenal and replacing him with the guy who wrote Generation X. Huh.
Voodoo: I am curious as to how they are retooling a Wildstorm character and if they will either A: put her in the DCU or B: It's still in the Wildstorm universe.
And anything Nei Ruffino colors.
So I'm already prepping myself to remain civil if "Watchmen #1" is announced. My initial comment would be: "anyone who buys a relaunched Watchmen comic is an asshole", but I realize that might not be in good form.
It's only comics...(he said unconvincingly to himself)...
Announced today:
Legion Lost
Legion of Super-Heroes
Teen Titans
Static Shock
Hawk & Dove
And those are all confirmed by DC!

I just tell myself that Watchmen was itself a take-off of some other company's heroes and then it stings less.

yes one of them is true!! H and D!!!
I was thinking about Starman , aka Danny Blaine....but it looks like Legion Lost is the one who s actually get lost in 21st century...makes me wonder if Thom Kallor will be the one who dies under the Legion flag?
So by my count DC has confirmed 39 titles so far.
The following are unconfirmed / unnanounced by DC, but ones we "know about" or have been rumored:
Superman
Action Comics
Superboy
Supergirl
Adventure - been rumored
My Greatest Adventure - was part of initial wave of rumors but nothing since.
OMAC - we've seen preview art and the creative team (Giff & Didio) but no official announcement
Grifter - very likely considering writer's name is being banded around (the awesome writer from Who is Jake Ellis?)
Here are the 39 confirmed titles (er, and then I'll let the beloved Lash take back over! Sorry Lash!)
(1) Justice League
(2) Justice League International
(3) DC Universe Presents (starring Deadman)
(4) Wonder Woman
(5) Aquaman
(6) Flash
(7) Fury of Firestorm
(8) Mr. Terrific
(9) Green Arrow
(10) The Savage Hawkman
(11) Captain Atom
(12) Birds of Prey
(13) Red Hood & the Outlaws
(14) Green Lantern
(15) Green Lantern Corps
(16) Green Lantern: The New Guardians
(17) Red Lanterns
(18) Batman
(19) Detective
(20) Batman: The Dark Knight
(21) Batman and Robin
(22) Batgirl
(23) Batwoman
(24) Nightwing
(25) Catwoman
(26) Batwing
(27) Justice League Dark
(28) Swamp Thing
(29) Animal Man
(30) Demon Knights
(31) Frankenstein, Agent of SHADE
(32) I, Vampire
(33) Resurrection Man
(34) Voodoo
(35) Legion Lost
(36) Legion of Super-Heroes
(37) Teen Titans
(38) Static Shock
(39) Hawk & Dove
*Also, Batman, Inc. will relaunch sometime in 2012.
So I wonder, what's the fate of some of the current ongoings? Booster Gold, Zatanna, Power Girl, the awesome Xombi and of course, Secret Six.
No announcements at all about JSA yet, which you'd expect would continue but can't be too sure about.
Also, Jonah Hex better continue unabated! If we lose Hex, then this whole thing sucks.
IMO, now would be the perfect time to relaunch Brave & Bold without JMS.
Supposedly the 52 does not include licensed material like the Spirit and Thunder Agents but I'm curious if any of those will continue.
Originally posted by Cobalt Kid:

Thing is, JSA is screwed. They're rebooting Hawkman again, along with various others.
So far, Bat- and GL- books appear to be continuing with minor adjustments at most, while Super- and Wonder- stuff is being rebooted from scratch again, as are some books affected by this (Teen Titans) and various miscellaneous titles like Firestorm and JLI.
So where does that leave JSA? Are they finally going to decouple it from WW2, and leave it as simply "the previous generation and their heirs"?
Or the opposite, with the JSA in WWII and not existing anymore in the present with some notable exceptions.
I can easliy see DC screwing over Infinity, Inc. again and making all the sons & daughters of the Golden Agers baby boomers born in the 50's and 60's and a solid generation+ older than Superman / Batman / etc.
Batman Beyond also appears to be one of them.
Surprised it wasn't announced with the other Bat-titles. Would they rope it into another 'group' of comics? Or will the last bunch of announcements be "everything else".
The best announcement ever for me would be a Tomahawk series by Darwyn Cooke or Ryan Sook. But I'd settle for a Kamandi series by Sook too. You know, if there doing an 'other time period' grouping.
I feel like Darwyn Cooke will be doing something for DC. There have been hints for about a year. It's been stated that it's NOT a New Frontier sequel, so I'm wondering if it'll be one of the final announcements. Darwyn taking two years off between Parker adaptations certainly fuels the speculation.
No, no PLEASE help when you can Cobiekins, I need it, there's so much going on every day it's kriz-azy!! And thank you!!
SO I think I am going to get a fairly large amount of these titles, but I have decided to have a strict "1, 2, 3" policy...
Books that don't grab me right away are gone in 1 issue... books that I am kinda borderline about will have 2 issues to grab me. No more. If I am still borderline after 2, it's gone.
Books that keep me grabbed for 3 straight issues remain on the all-new Sept. Pull list.
1, 2, 3 DC... don't eff it up!

I can easliy see DC screwing over Infinity, Inc. again and making all the sons & daughters of the Golden Agers baby boomers born in the 50's and 60's and a solid generation+ older than Superman / Batman / etc.
I think that's more likely. Of course, they can always come up with some reason for the Infinitors and other second-generation characters to remain youthful--after all, they did it with their parents!
Of the six Golden-Age offspring who have been most active in the DCU in the last few years, all seem to have some plausible (by comic book standards) explanation for slowed aging:
Black Canary (The magic spell that gave her her powers)
Hourman (Miraclo)
Jade (Starheart)
Jesse Quick (Speed Force)
Obsidian (Starheart)
Zatanna (Magic)
They could probably insert a generation (or two) in-between the JSA and the Infinitors if they wanted to. I'm not sure it makes that much difference for them to be the children rather than the grandchildren of the JSA.

I bet that's going to be the remaining grouping (aside from the Superman books). So tomorrow they might announce a JSA book set during WWII, Weird War Tales, OMAC, Jonah Hex and possibly a couple of surprises.
As the reality of this sinks in...I am optimistic about several of these titles. Including some that I never thought I'd buy again.
More offical announcements:
Stormwatch (Blending Martian Manhunter with the pre-Authority Wildstorm team)
Blackhawk (modern day)
Sgt. Rock (also modern day)
All-Star Western
Deathstroke
Grifter
OMAC
That puts us at 46 titles with the Super books left to come. Things don't look good for the JSA.
I was really excited when I heard the news but have to say I'm realy dissapointed that both Blackhawk and SGT Rock are set in the present day, not war comics, and involve mercenary type characters in the DCU. That's the worst possible set-up for either franchise IMO. I wouldn't even object to the present day if either still maintained a bit more of the original franchise.
So it appears All-Star Western is a continuation of Jonah Hex? With Graypal on that's an instant buy for me. It's a shame they have to restart the numbering for the title, though. Pluses are (A) the back-ups and (B) Moritat on art, since he's been rocking my face off on the Spirit.
Grifter is a character I've never cared about before, but the creative team is MONEY. Nathan Edmondson is punch-your-own-face awesome on Who is Jake Ellis? and CAFU is smack-your-neighbor cool on Thunder Agents.
As for OMAC: can't you just see Didio realizing that Johns and Lee will get all kinds of crazy royalties off these relaunches and realizes he should use his power to make sure he gets a little extra piece of the pie too?

Superman Beyond – Rich also seems to think this is likely
Watchmen – this is entirely unsubstantiated, just heresy thus far.
Current Ongoings with no word at all
Justice Society of America
Booster Gold
Zatanna
Power Girl
Secret Six
Xombi
Also Noteworthy
Batman, Inc. to be relaunched in 2012
Initial reports mentioned the 52 did not include licensed series like the Spirit and Thunder Agents but no confirmation on that.
So there we are. Unless Adventure Comics is not being relaunched, or Batman Beyond is happening somewhere down the road (since I would have thought it would be announced with the Bat titles or with this latest grouping), then no room for JSA. But don’t panic yet anyone, there is still a day of news to come.
Just throwing it out there, but JSA had a slot in Adventure once upon a time.
But, I honestly think they're going to ship the JSA back to Earth 2 and re-introduce them later. There's been enough on the previews so far that show a "De-coupling" from their Legacies, that this seems the most likely route.
It occurs to me that the Cooke Vigilante story is likely a back-up in All-Star Western.
And J'onn in Stormwatch all but confirms that Wildstorm is now blended into DC. I think it's unlikely at this point that any series takes place on another Earth.
hmm dosn't JL = Stormwatch ?
and did anyone else notice the shameless use of
#1 of 3 on the shelves at the comic store. Flashpoint Aquaman Emperer etc.
#1 #1 #1 #1 #1
I suspect from now on, if it hasn't already gotten to that point, #1 will have completely lost its cache.
Yeah...Marvel has pretty much dragged the #1 thing to the edge of the cliff kicking and screaming, and DC is about to join in and push it over the edge.
I'm surprised DC has never listed a comic called Bizarro #1.
Hopefully, they'd be smart enough to make it Bizarro #-1!

You're not kidding. Captain America has about 5 #1's and all of them except one are probably worth about as much as a snickers bar.

Closest one:
As if on cue to answer Double Chinner's question in the other thread, Blue Beetle is announced.
Also announced is Suicide Squad.
Looks like Adventure is out, Batman Beyond is not included in the 52 and JSA is out? Secret Six also done since Deadshot is in SS.
Unless Action is also delayed because of Grant Morrison...

Ugh. If Damien is Robin and Tim Drake is written out, that will infuriate me. Moreso than anything else that DC could do.
Since I haven't seen you comment, I'm curious what you now think of the news that Tim exists...
but has apparently been ripped out of Bat-history to be introduced as a newbie in Teen Titans . (Also, Cassie as "belligerent thief"? Huh?)

Heresy? Freudian typo of "hearsay"?
Must be!
As for Tim and Titans, I think it's terrible. Ridiculously awful and possibly the worst part of all of this. The Titans premise really looks like crap.
Hearsay about the heresy is what I say.

It's good to see that Yildray is still out there (on Fury of Firestorm). I may not love the Frank-designed costumes he got stuck with, but his art has been cool.
So the JSA may not be published any more, but we will have
All-Star Western. It's like 1951 all over again!
I realize a big shock is no Superman / Batman! Perhaps the biggest dropped ball of them all, as it should easily be the #1 comic every month.
Not likely to pick up the new Suicide Squad book. It's a shame because I really have been jonesing for one since the Secret Six/Suicide Squad team-up last year. I'd be totally onboard if John Ostrander or Gail Simone were writing. Instead we get this Adam Glass whom I've never heard of.
The real deal-breaker, though, is that the book features....Harley Quinn?!? REALLY?!?! I LOVED Harley on the old Batman animated series, but, IMO, she's translated very poorly into the DCU. And putting her in the Suicide Squad seems like the worst fit yet. Punch and Jewelee fit in just fine, but Harley is a different matter, I feel. Even with an unknown writer, I would've given it a chance if the lineup was appealing. While having Deadshot aboard is a plus, I'd rather see him with Bronze Tiger, Boomerbutt and some of the other standards.
Too bad.
I'll get the first few issues of Squad at least, just to give it a chance. I liked Secret Six well enough, but I really didn't think Deadshot ever fit well enough there (his best issues were Ostrander penned). I also doubt it will be just a three person squad, so the rest of the cast may surprise. We'll see.
The books I think I am going to be buying... using my strict 1, 2, 3 policy I expect it to get several cuts in October...
All-Star Western (Justin Gray, Jimmy Palmiotti & Moritat)

Swamp Thing (Scott Snyder & Yanick Paquette)
Teen Titans (Scott Lobdell, Brett Booth & Norm Rapmund)
And likely Superboy and Supergirl when they are officially announced.
I agree with Lardy about Harley Quinn in the comics. The way she's been written has been way too Mary Sue-ish, as if she's sacrosanct and can't be shown for an instant as anything but the coolest character that ever lived. Which means I want someone to beat the living crap out of her (c'mon Huntress!).
I'm really on the fence about Suicide Squad. I love the Squad and everything about the premise and history of the title but the preview didn't really excite me all that much.
I'm also unsure about Blue Beetle. I bought Jamie's first entire series and liked it well enough; but at the end of the day, he's still the most second-rate of all Blue Beetles from what we've seen so far. The one plus is Tony Bedard who might be able to change that finally. But I'm giving it the Lash 1,2,3 rule: one issue to hook me and the second issue better keep me around or its dropped.
I think I will try ACTION and SUPERMAN as well. Why not?

Huntress? If anybody should get to knock Haryley around, it should be Molly Mayne-Scott. And then make her a sidekick to the *original* Harlequin.
But that ain't gonna be happening, since a line in the solicit for the new ACTION COMICS states: "This momentous first issue will set in motion the history of the DC Universe as Superman defends a world that doesn’t trust their first Super Hero."
Bye-bye JSA and all characters derived from it. No Obsidian or Jade. No Sand or Atom-Smasher. No Hourman or Dr. Midnight. No Crimson Avenger.
Unless they all have operated in secret since WWII?
Perhaps ACTION takes place on a different Earth-- as indeed I've read the supposition that all the 52 titles take place on a different of the 52 Earths.
I don't know, from interviews it looks like it's all one Earth, one history, one status quo.

Thanks for posting the breakdown. Only have one heavy week with this stuff. Most of them are 4 or less issues.
I'm curious how many people pick up Batgirl and whether it's A matter of "give it a chance" vs "hell no, screw them for devolving Barbara from Oracle".
Plus, with more than 10 Bat-titles (including Batwoman), Babs comic has to compete with others since it's unlikely someone is going to buy them all. (Which is why Winnick's Bat-Wing isn't even in consideration for me). Is there still enough there to make her as interesting as Bruce and Dick?
I am on board with Babs comic. The interview Gail did for it really makes me want to read it. She has an obvious love for the character, and I trust her to make it a damned good read.
The only other Bat related book I am getting is Batman with Snyder. The other ones hold no interest for me. I like Snyders writing, and have loved his run on Detective...so he gets a free looksie from me.
I'm definitely picking up Batgirl. If anyone other than Gail were writing, I'd probably not give it a look. I read her
article on Newsarama about the subject. If I weren't already swayed to buy it, this would have. Give it a read if you haven't already.
This is all despite the fact that I dearly love the soon-to-end Batgirl book featuring Stephanie Brown. In a perfect world this book would survive and be nominated for Eisners. I will miss it a lot.
I thought the article hurt her cause more than anything personally. It shows Gail had no hand at all in the decision, and it almost feels like it's a matter of "I better write it before someone else gets it and really screws up Babs". I really like Gail but feel she was giving us the hard sell way too hard, like on a Mark Millar level.
I'm already beyond annoyed about Babs being devolved and just another Bat character again but that article really hurt the cause, making me wish I hasn't read it.
Babs was really something special as Oracle. I feel it's a tremendous loss.
Plus Batwoman has been so fantastic that it certainly trumps as Batgirl comic for me, even with Gail on it. My pull list is filling up awful fast with Bat books. (All the Batman ones, Nightwing and Batwoman).
Ps - I read it a few days ago, so don't feel like you showed me it Lardy (in case you felt bad).
It was mostly her sheer passion for Barbara bleeding through in the article that grabbed me. It wasn't a surprise that she was passionate, of course, but one point that hit me was that Barbara has never had her own solo ongoing! I have faith in Gail (and pretty much no one else) to make Barbara shine in this book and to make it work so that she doesn't seem redundant next to Batwoman.
I didn't see it as a "Millar hard sell" at all, personally. I felt she was genuinely sold on the change after initially resisting it like most of us.
Barbara basically disappeared after being crippled and becoming one of the earliest "women in refrigerators". If it weren't for John Ostrander and Kim Yale, she may have rarely or never been seen again. She's right that it makes no sense why every other character mutilated or even killed can be cured in the DCU, but somehow never Barbara.
I dunno. Like you, I'm not completely sold (and again, losing the great book with Stephanie Brown is the worst part for me), but I'm very willing to give her a shot with Gail onboard.
At the end of the day, the only really annoying aspects of this whole thing for me so far are Babs / Oracle and the whole Teen Titans nonsense. While I'm genuinely worried DC may be slitting their own throats from a business perspective, I'm not too overwhelmed personally about what we know so far.
Even Superman and Lois' marriage--I'm basically feeling like 'fuck it'.
I think it helped Spidey after all, so it will prob help Supes. Lord knows Superman needs as much help as possible these days.
Very likely, I'll be getting a huge pile of DC Comics just like always. Mr. Terrific? Absolutely. Animal Man? No doubt.
Speaking of Gail, her Firestorm looks like it's going to be at long last the Firestorm comic I've been waiting for.
For so many years now I've gradually stopped giving a shit about DC's continuity and make-up. This could end up getting me back on track even if I dont trust all 3 of the top guys there as far as I can throw them, Didio paramount among them.
Ultimately this could be on the onset of a real dark time for some characters but on the other hand it could be just what the doctor ordered for others (C'mon Jurgens, I'm counting on you for Green Arrow).
So you're gonna buy the Tony Daniel 'Tec (which you haven't enjoyed on Batman) and not Batgirl?
I'd pick up Green Arrow if Jurgens was writing as well, but they're keeping J.T. Krul, who despite his great taste in shirts
, has yet to show he deserves a job in the comics industry.
So I'll reluctantly pass and watch reviews.
Many of the "passes" I'm probably going to make are based on creator problems, mostly not being familiar with them or not liking the mix so much. For example, I'd probably pick up Hawk & Dove by Bedard if Liefeld weren't drawing!!! Giffen on OMAC looks intriguing, but Didio's writing?!?! Pass!
You know, I will probably get Hawk and Dove #1! I'm curious and for ages I've said I want to buy a Liefield comic and really review it but haven't been able to do so. I just read his interview on newsarama and you can see he doesn't want his legacy to be blown deadlines and characters without actual storylines. It really looks like he wants to really impress people and I'm going to at least give him #1. Bedard helps.
As for Detective, my Dad and I are huge Batman fans as you know and have always collected all the main Bat books. Our Detective collection now extends back into 1957 uninterrupted (and further back with holes), so Detective was never in question. Besides, the art looks good and Bruce Wayne is such a big favorite, it won't be as if I'm totally hating it.
I am hesitate about Daniel's Hawkman though which I will at least try.
I'll be getting a lot of comics that would normally be more questionable than a Gail written comic, but the Babs as Batgirl again premise is too difficult for me to overcome yet. Maybe one day I'll read it when it's been cancelled since people like me waited too many years to give it a try.
In all the news I missed Krul was staying on with Green Arrow as writer. Ew. Maybe Jurgens can slowly push him out. I'll probably still get the series for a few issues for Jurgens art, which I absolutely love (especially the way he draws G.A.).
Omac is a pass because of Didio.
Frankenstein is a 'give it a try' because of Lemire and Grant's kick-ass premise for the character from 7 Soldiers.
Ya know, I haven't really been blown away by Lemire yet like others have. Superboy is okay-to-good at times. The Atom backup in Adventure bored me to tears. And I haven't read Sweet Tooth which is supposed to be his best thing right now.
So at this point I'm leading toward "pass" regarding Lemire's books.
What are your thoughts (and everyone else too) on Wonder Woman by Azzarello?
While I think WW was a series in desperate need of something, I'm not sure Azzarello is it. Most of his work has always left me cold (re: his Superman run with Jim Lee). Granted, I've never read 100 Bullets.
WW is a hard sell for me under any circumstances, and like you, I've yet to be impressed by anything he's done (also haven read 100 Bullets). At first blush, given his history on more edgy stuff, Azzarello seems a very odd fit, even a mismatch, for Diana. Maybe that means he's just the shot in the arm Diana needs? Dunno. Pass.
I'm gonna grab WW #1, and see from there. Azz is a pretty good writer, and I want to see what his spin on WW is. I've tried that book over the years in its various incarnations, and none since the Perez relaunch has grabbed me for more than an issue or three honestly. So, I'll give it another shot.
I only ever enjoyed Perez's (but it suffered after he stopped pencilling) and Byrne's runs on WW, of those I tried. I thought Simone would be perfect for the book but mixed-at-best reviews kept me from ever trying it. Messner-Loebs/Deodato had that kitzchy nineties appeal to their run but was ultimately just too sensationalist with that Artemis storyline. Artemis was just a stereotypical Image Hell-bitch.
Does Azzarello do much in the way of interviews about his work? This is a case where I'd really like to read something about the approach he'd have towards Wonder Woman- what kind of story he's telling about and with her.
In any case, I've liked Wonder Woman much more than most posting here, at least. I quite liked Simone's WW, much more than the most recent run. I liked Jimenez quite a bit, though I think he could've benefited by teaming with a more experienced co-writer. And Perez's run was great. Not a fan of Byrne's.
I think that more than anything else, a supporting cast needs to be established that isn't totally started from scratch everytime a new writer takes over.
Oh, I mostly enjoyed Jimenez's run, too, Todd. That issue in which Lois comes to Paradise Island was probably one of the best WW stories I've ever read!
I like the Jimenez run very much. It's without a doubt my favorite WW run. The Perez run is a bit too earnest and serious IMO, while Jimenez injects a refreshingly judicious amount of camp.
I'm probably more than the casual WW fan but it's just Brian Azz that's got me having second thoughts.
Todd, I see you're in on Stormwatch. Is it for J'onn, or are there other reasons?
<----------also fan of Jimenez run. Love the all-female super villain group on the island after Diana and Trevor.

Correction, it's Sterling Gates writing, not Bedard. That actually makes it harder to pass up because I loved Gates' Supergirl run more than anything I've read of Bedard's stuff!
Funny enough, Liefeld's best work was probably his early H&D stuff.
Yea, Gates is awesome. That puts it over for me. I will buy and review! First Liefield comic since Brigade #3! (1993?)
Also, JLDark is certainly on my list, but does anyone else think that's a hella-lame title?
Yeah, it is. But I know DC did it so it would get more attention then, say, Shadowpact.
It should be 'Justice League Shadowpact'
Regardless of title, it does look very good.
Yeah, just having Milligan writing Shade again gives me fan-gasms! If he somehow works Cathy and Lenny into the book, I might go into convulsions!
wow looks like I am the one who will buy the largest # of the list.
Aug. 31 - one book _ of course!
Week #1 - 11 books (will not buy Action and Detective Comics)
Week #2 - 13 books (Batman and Robin is off the list)
Week #3 - 10 books (no Batman for me)
Week #4 - 11 books (Superman and Batman the Dark Knight are excluded)
-- am excited to see Madame Xanadu in two books - Demon Knights and JL Dark. same with Deadman.
-- love all Batgirls books (Cassandra, Stephanie - both of them will be greatly missed...they both greatly blossomed into great heroes! and same with Proxy.)
-- will buy most minorities books such as Batwing, Batwoman, Stormwatch (Apollo and Midnighter), Blue Beetle, Static Shock, Mr. Terrific)
-- always love the team books such as GLCorps, Red Lanterns, Teen Titans - although I am kind of disappointed that Aqualad will not be a part of it, BoP, all JLs)
-- for an anal completist - Deathstroke, Firestorm, Animal Man, Superboy, Hawk and Dove (I am giving Leifeld a chance because he did very good on Deadpool and that book is very popular!), Suicide Squad, Green Arrow, Batgirl, Hawkman, Resurrection Man)
-- Legion and Legion Lost will be always my #1 as ever, no argument at all.
I ll be gladly giving you all the reviews on some books that you decide to pass -- such as Red Hood and the Outlaws (is Starfire actually wearing a pant? or what? ), Men of War, All Star Western (hope to see Cinnamon, Nighthawk, Bat Lash, Scalphunter, not just Jonah Hex!), I Vampire, Capt Atom)
-- sure wish that Doom Patrol, Starman (Danny Blaine/Thom Kallor), Marvel Family, Metal Men, JSA (and All-Stars), Sensation Comics (why WW still have one book, while Superman and Batman have more than one book is beyond me....would love to see Donna, Cassie, Amazon girls, etc in action), Freedom Fighters, Challengers of the Unknown, and others.

Also, JLDark is certainly on my list, but does anyone else think that's a hella-lame title?
Yes it is. I thought it was just a description of the title rather than it's actual name. From a marketing standpoint it makes perfect sense, (even though "Shadowpact" would be more appropriate given the book's theme) but I hope they don't actually call themselves that. I have a feeling they might not even have an official "team name" in the comic.
well I dont think that JL Dark is a lame name...that it does not bother me at all..however that name would be more attractive than just "Sentinels of Lights" or "JL Shadowpact" or "JL Sorcery" or "etc etc"....
but I do miss the most - JL Elite.
I appreciated Gail Simone's candor and ardor on Batgirl and Oracle. Oracle is not a creator-owned property. She's owned by DC, and they can do what they want with her, and that company has debated a long time on what to do with Babs, which I think is really cool. That it took so long, that there were so many years of Oracle stories actually speaks well for DC, and I appreciated, and had a lot of sympathy with, Gail's arguments about restoring Barbara to Batgirl. There clearly isn't a perfect choice to make with this character, and I'm glad she will still be around. I think the larger issue is whether DC can develop and make successful additional characters with disabilities. That's too important an element of diversity to ignore. I'll be reading Batgirl #1 enthusiastically.

Todd, I see you're in on Stormwatch. Is it for J'onn, or are there other reasons?
Yeah, for J'onn. Also, I think it likely that this might be a spot that DC's 'lesser' lights might be plugged in. More likely, lots of Wildstorm characters, too.
I always liked the name 'Stormwatch', too- and thought it a good premise for a title. Not sure how it'll translate to DC proper. If it really will be.
I like Apollo a lot, too- though, honestly, I think DC's kind of being lame in using him and Midnighter to fill that 'gay guy' quota and enable them to crow about how 'diverse' they are (still ageist as hell, though!) I much preferred the gay heroes who are actually heroes they had on their rolls (Obsidian, Starman, Tasmanian Devil, Piper, Achilles...). Apollo and Superman and Midnighter and Batman on the same Earth makes me uneasy.
Just as it would if Hyperion and Nighthawk from Marvel were all of a sudden shunted to the DCU to star in a Justice Supreme title.
Shadow League?
Justice's Shadow?
Shadow of Justice could work, or League of Shadows.
Apollo and Midnighter in the same world as Superman and Batman? Huh. Not sure I care for that, either.
Given that BatGod has plot immunity, I suspect that any encounter with the Midnighter and the Bat is going to result in Midnighter inexplicably forgetting how to fight, since he's pretty much supposed to be Batman + Deathstroke + Prometheus with a dash of Bane on the side.
I'm much more interested in pre-Authority Stormwatch characters, like Winter and Battalion and Diva (probably mostly dead, and / or forgotten), and WildCore / WildCATs / Gen 13 / DV8 characters, so I'm definitely not the target audience for this particular Wildstorm / DCU merger.
Man, Gen 13 intermingled with Young Justice, written by Peter David, and drawn by J. Scott <strike>Lobdell</strike> (Campbell, whatever!). That would be freaktastic...

I was with you, but then I read this week's Frankenstein book and loved it, so his post-Flashpoint Frankenstein will get a look from me as well.

I love "Shadow League!" Unfortunately, they probably want it to be able to sit on a shelf next to JLA...
