Legion World
"Brainiac and the Legion of Super Heroes"?

DC Comics Blogpost
and kara's gonna be part of the story...hmm will she and brainy meet and have cupid stike...
Sterling's writing the 31st century part but I guess its not out there that more could arrive in the 21st century
Where has the front of Jeckies costume gone? It looks awful!
Probably just mis-colored for now. It looked right in Superman # 692.
Oh good grief, the new Sensor Girl costume is HIDEOUS!!!

Boobs out and a mask? Not a good look...

I don't think it's miscoloured, it's a redesign. The boots, gloves etc are different.

frown frown
New Sensor Girl costume aside, this actually sounds pretty exciting! I think this is a groovy idea and hopefully--just maybe--this could turn on some new readers to the Legion.

I'm glad to see Adventure syncing up with the Superman books so both Superboy and the Legion can interact with them. I'd prefer if afterwards the Legion (in Adventure or wherever) then can move away from the Superman books and be on their own, but I think this is a decent marketing attempt to draw attention to the Legion here, to regain old fans and gain new ones as well.
It's a minor redesign, but all you need to do is color the cleavage area white and the arms red, and it looks exactly right.

And I'm sure that what we're seeing on the blog there isn't the cover professionally colored, it's just a thrown-together rough draft to tease.

and a tiara!
WHAT?!?!?!!?!?!?!

Great Hera!

I'd missed that!
It sounds nteresting. I wonder if it'll be wrapping up the Legion in the 21st century plotlines to clear the deck for Levitz's new run. The ongoing Legion plotlines have been my favorite parts of the new Superman books, so I'm glad everything is coming to a head.
Argh! What's with them redesigning Legionnaires' costumes to make them uglier! Oh well, I'll hope it's a coloring error (but the way DC has been going lately that's probably not the case). Anyways, the rest sounds pretty cool. Still some trepidation about the Johnsboot but they are at least giving it a big push by tying it in to the big Superman event before Levitz takes over.
Wow, that has to be the worst destruction of a great costume, ever.

I'm stunned that that came off the pen of Manapul, laughing as I see it. What was he thinking?

The story has potential though I might have to cut and paste over that uni. lol
Gotta be a miscolour...Look under her arms, there's cloth creases.
Looking at the pencils gives me the same impression as the final version. I'm putting money on this was intentional.

Besides, without Legion being published, we need a good reason to riot.
Wow, I hope that was a coloring error. The whole point of the costume was to hide. The tiara is doubly ridiculous. The whole cover looks like something of a rush job.

Like others have said, though, costume aside, it sounds like a good read. Hopefully, I'll have enough money next summer to pick up this big crossover Superman event. (Actually I really hope it is just a lead-up, and the Legion is out by the time the event starts, even if I can afford it. I hate "events.")
Okay, yes, now there is a new costume I do not like.
Strange miscoloring going on with Brainiac's sleeves as well, it seems. Or he's wearing a purple jumpsuit with grey sleeves and a black coat.

Why don't we just rip the sleeves off of all the male characters and make sure that every female character has a boob window? That seems to be the trend.

Brainy probably wasn't miscolored, he'd ripped off his sleeves to join the new sleeveless look, but then was embarassed by his puny biceps (compared to Garth and Brin) and quickly threw something over them...
LOL, Jeckie probably just forgot the concealing part of her costume in the 31st century smile

I have to say that I'm pleased to hear that the Legion is about to be "reborn" - again - in a major storyline including Supes and Kara (which means publicity).

This probably will be leading to Levitz' own Legion book, tying up danglers like Bedard did for Shooter after Waid left the Threeboot. As there has not been that much story been told (ten pages per issue!), it should not be too difficult to streamline the Retroboot for the next decade.

Cool!
I think I'm one of the few who never liked Jeckie's Sensor Girl outfit (it's a striking costume - just not right for Jeckie IMO) but that update is hideous!

I would much rather see her in the original Sensor Girl outfit - or better yet, an updated version of her pink and blue Adventure-era costume - than that mess.
Oh, hooray. I was just thinking the other day that comics don't have enough boobs sticking out everywhere! Thanks, DC!
Jeckie is one character who CAN'T have a costume too outrageous. Dave Cockrum's design pretty much saw to that, and this is clearly an homage to that ...uh...seminal design. I do hope that the sleeves are miscolored, though. Clearly she plans on becoming a Luchador, and more power to her.

What would be a bigger Superman event than "Brainiac & The Legion," though? Must be that New Krypton War or something. Kinda sick of war, for my part.

The most significant part of the cover for me is that Wildfire isn't right next to Dawnstar.

It's worth reflecting how amazing it is to have Legion characters so prominently featured in the Superman books. I'm really enjoying Mon-El in "Superman." I am excited to see where his story goes. I know he had his own book and all in the 1990s, but that feels like another life. This approach has more potential to fit into a cohesive Superman/Legion mythos.
aside from the bad costume on Sensor Girl (which IS bad), does this mean that the new title in march is... The Legion of Super-Heroes?????
That's what I thought.

And let me echo the sentiments of Sensor's Girl "open window"!
I also do not like Sensor Girl's new costume. But, at least it distracts from Element Lad's poor choices. Wide bands at the elbow and hipboots? Costume update fail.

I'm guessing the title to be named later is a new Superboy title.

I'm looking forward to the story, though. I wonder if the Legion has to help Brainiac or some twist like that.
It's so weird - I was just posting on another thread that I've been getting on board with the whole idea of reducing the sexual objectification of female comic book characters, and then here come Jeckie's boobs!

This is especially disturbing/disappointing/distracting because Jecky went from the extremely revealing Cockrum costume to the rather conservative Sensor Girl costume. Now it seems she's stepped back into sexy girl mode again. (Hmmm... evidently I've forgotten/ignored 3boot Jecky.)

What is so wrong about Jeckie's costume is that last time we saw her she was looking at a photo of her late husband and crying. A woman in mourning does not dress like that
I honestly don't think I've seen a worse Legion costume EVAH.

Do we know who is actually responsible for this?

http://bottlecityofkanga.blogspot.com/2009/12/sensor-girls-redesign-ban-this-sick.html
I thought Levitz was taking over this series. Does anyone know if he is, and if so, with which issue will his stories start?
Just checked out another thread and found the answer to my question. Carry on...
hmmm I actually like Jeckie's outfit...
Okay, look, if anyone has any complaints about Jeckie's redesign, why don't you just TELL Manapul? He's got a DA page with a link to his email address.

manapul.deviantart.com
I doubt Francis designed it. He's just drawing the cover.
"I'm fixing a hole where the rain gets in and stops my mind from wandering..."

As an illusionist, Jeckie should know the value of keeping things hidden until necessity presents itself.

Stiletta
Oh yeah, one more thing. That comment about how this isn't how a woman in mourning dresses.

Two words: Cat. Grant.
I am one of those few on here that actually like Jeckie's new look. The old one was just too dated and serious (which fit the character at that particular time), but it's time to move on... so why not a sexier look to her costume? Heck she's a master illusionist so she can mask this new costume to look like something different any time she wants.
The other Legionnaires on Francis' beautiful cover look fantastic!
When did Element Lad make it back to the 21st century anyway? Did I miss and issue somewhere?

I can't wait for all this new Legion hype to start up again early next year!
Maybe she's got a brand new man? LOVE the Sgt. Pepper's reference. Mind wandering, indeed.

On a somewhat related matter, was Jeckie ever part of the Espionage Squad? On the one hand, it seems like a no brainer. But I don't recall her doing that. Jeckie always seemed too royal to actually get her hands dirty. Nice to see her moving out of her comfort zone. And what better way to get away from feelings of loss?
The jeckie's costume it's not badly completely, but the mask and the blond hair exceed.
Bring back the platitum blonde hair and her pretty face.

I would rather have Queen Projectra...and what happened to Matter-Eater-Lad? Isn't he in the 21st century with that team? confused
It's funny, when I first saw Thom kallor in JSA I got really excited. And then we had the Lightning Saga and Legion of Three Worlds. All of them notched up the excitement a little more. I have been waiting for THIS Legion for a very long time. But this cover, along with the news of Levitz returning to the team, thrills me to no end. I haven't been this excited about the Legion in a very very long time.
But doesn't anyone else think the random boob reveal is just a bit too adolescent?

If they're going for that then why not have Star "Man" (is it? or Boy now?) with his bum cheeks cut out?

It's ridiculous. "I'm so mysterious with my big mask...now check out these hooters"
lol
I think in Legion fandom starman's buttcheeks count as more fanservice than Jeckie's breasts. DC do not know their market. tongue
Did we ever get to the bottom of who is responsible for this horrific redesign?
It wasn't Manapul, believe me. He said on deviantart he wasn't responsible for the redesigns. He was just working with what they gave him.
i blame Gary (Dawnstar needs a boob window, and Yera looks too alien bald) Frank.

Yes. It does seem that the womens' costumes are being designed to appeal to an adolescent age group. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of decolletage but really how functional is it for an action costume? How do those porno-sized boobs stay in in a fight?
Spot applications of Brainy's unbreachable force field, I imagine.

As I said in a neighboring thread: Spirit Gum. [ouch!] Or, for those who recall Carrie Fisher's dress in the first Star Wars flick: Gaffer's tape. [OUCH!!]

I love how even the legendary Power Girl "boob window" isn't a comparatively modest "window" anymore, as it was in the 1980s. It's more like a "boob triple-wide sliding patio door." Feh.

This just up on CBR.

http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=4590&disp=table
Reminds me of the flashbacks from one of Brainy's previous meltdowns.

I hope that isn't the set-up they're going for here.
I think we should petition DC to make the alternate cover the regular cover and the regular cover forgotten.
Regards the preview:

1) Is that first panel a Star Trek rip-off? Replace Spock with Brainy? The preview makes Colu look like Earth with green skins and tacky furniture. I prefer Colu's unique nature depicted previously in Legion and dotLegion.

2) The listing of worlds, so "seeding" I guess is not the new nature, as these worlds already exist?

3) Rift? Blight World? We going back there? I might enjoy that ride.
I like the incorporation of the "Great-Great-Great-Great-Great Grandfather" thing from Brainy's early appearances.
Faboo!! I like the nods to the reboot.
Durla 1 and Rimbor were both destroyed by Brainiac? Huh.
Well that certainly explains why it took one thousand years to get from 3 to 5.
Looks like Ayla and Brin are still 'close', whatever that means.

I like Drake's look and still dislike Dawnstar's 'inside the comic and main cover' look.

The 'Brainy kid' scenes with the Coluan kids reminded me a little of the Star Trek scenes where Spock fought the Vulcan kids.

I like Querl's hopeful but rather ineffectual dad! And I'm glad 'mom' isn't the Brainiac 4 monster of the reboot.
sigh

I don't think B4 is ineffectual, he looks very serene. Perhaps beaten down by years of torment brought on by his family connections. What I do like though is that in Legion of 3 worlds someone steals the Brainiac name as a status symbol where as before Brainiac 5 it was shunned. He's doing his job well.

I thought the exact same thing. Ah well.
Decent issue. Was able to get hold of the variant for $1 more than cover price, so that's pretty cool.

Set up time for the Last Stand of New Krypton.

Still hate Jeckies outfit though.
My comic shop was sold out of the variant cover by the time I got there. They were selling it for TEN BUCKS! He said he could reorder it for me for $9. WTF? Why couldn't they have just given us a decent cover to begin with? Why do we have to pay triple price for a good one?

I too hate Sensor Girl's new costume.

The art was very inconsistent. Some panels were fine. Others were just ugly. Can't believe they split ME Lad's face down the centerfold on one spread.

Got bored with the Car Fax lady's interview with Gen. Lane. Could hardly make myself read it.

I know ME Lad was revealed as "Mitch" in Action. Were Cham and Jeckie revealed there too? I haven't read Action in years.

Why would Star Boy and ME Lad be on this mission when they haven't been active members in years? More details lost to the reboot void I guess. Still, nice to have them back.
Oh, yeah. Ma Kent looked like Aunt May. When did she get so frail and shriveled looking? Is that a new wrinkle, so to speak?

I couldn't agree more Jim! My reaction exactly.
This was just an okay issue, but it was the first new Legion comic I've bought in over a year. I've forgotten how thrilling it is to read a new Legion story. It makes me feel more excited about all the other comics I'm buying, and about life in general.
Haven't read the issue yet, but I have a great owner of my LCS. He knows I buy a lot of comics there and I get my variant covers at cover price.
No, I can't tell you where, he'd kill me then I'd have to come back as Black Lantern Arm Fall-Off Boy and kill you all.
Pretty light issue, despite having three stories.

The first story was pretty cookie-cutter. Not bad, but nothing we haven't seen before. A Rift in Space? Must be Thursday.

The Second story: Holy Exposition Batman! Continuing from the Superman issue where nothing much happened, even less happens here. We get a bit about Brande's will (but not much really) and everyone agrees they're in. Can't wait to get Robinson away from the Legion.

The third story is fine I guess, but deals with a plotline that doesn't interest me. And again not much happens.

It's Adventure Comics without an adventure!
Its a prologue Rouge!

And a crappy one at that.
It felt more like a recap than a prologue.
Just because it's a prologue doesn't excuse pages and pages of talking heads that ultimately don't reveal anything to justify an entire story devoted to them. A good prologue should set up the coming story, identify an approaching threat etc., yet still be able to tell it's own story in the process. Only the first story did this, and even it was pretty bland.
Did anybody else notice that the young Brainiac-5 was depicted in the reBoot version of Brainy's unform? Does this mean that the revised origin doesn't apply to the older version of Brainy (i.e. the one from pseudo-silver age continuity who was the central Legion figure this issue, in the 30th century, at least)?

Secondly, the whole UP-space-station-going-into-the-rift plot line really evoked the senario that set Legion Lost into motion for me. I don't know if this is significant, but it did have impact in terms of raising my expectation that momentuous developments lie ahead (yeah, I know: well duh!).

Anyway, I'm going to trust a statement that was made by Dan Dido somewhere at some point in the last year: namely that Legion fans are going to be very happy in the days to come.

He's just trying to lull you into a false sense of security, MB! Don't fall for it until we finally get those damn rings!

wink
My thoughts...

I enjoyed this issue well enough, not a big fan of the last story but that's simply because I don't care about that plot line.

The Superboy story was nice, but I HATE the entire idea that "so and so with knowledge sent us on a mission to fix something but didn't tell us what or how and for no particular reason we weren't supposed to communicate with eachother". That's stupid storytelling, so unless at the end of this thing the writers can make that make sense than I figure they just got lazy, and that annoys me.

Other thing is how awful Jeckie's new costume look. Nothing about it works for me, the tiara at the top looks ridiculous, even more so with the open eyes on the full face mask and the sleeveless look is wretched. Honestly the boob window was actually the least worst thing about the new costume. Sigh, I worry about so called artists who design things like that.

Now on to the positive stuff. I did like the set-up, normally I don't like getting short stories like that, especially when I pay $4 for the issue, but here I felt that it was good set-up and except for the last story didn't feel like filler. I think Gate's work was the strongest, he set-up what he needed to set-up and still left room for our heroes to DO something, which we don't always see in comics, and I did like some of the insight into Brainy that he showed us.

I was thinking of sitting out this storyline, but I think I'll at least pick up a portion of it (I'll have to look and see) but I am intrigued.

So solid issue, just wish they would stop redesigning the Legionnaires costumes so that they look worse than they did before.
1) i dont like mon's look Jackies look and i am real sick of the superboy in god damn jeans but i did like that Querl as a child wore the rebot clothing

2)you'd think that cham would be a little more interested in what his dad was planing when his dad said it was his last will and testament

3) i didn't like that jan did the whole superman revile with his shirt..but i do like he's back in the pink

4)old Brainy's dad...was an asshole. he flat out ingrained it into Querl that he was meant dominate others..thats what drives brainy insane the first time. (ya know on top of being the only one in the legion that never got a vacation.) him in the legion doing good went against his conditioning as a child and over the years that drove him crazy.

5) brainys parents died way before he went to the legion..Brainy was raised by the state. that part of the reason he dosen't like clou..kids hated him and he was raised in an orphanage with other kids

6)you cant just call some one a brainiac. i is not exclusive to the dox line. IT. IS. A. TITLE. Querl has had it since a few hours after his birth cause thats how long it took for the 12th level brain to show, thats is why he gets away with so much with the up, so long as he doesn't blow up the planet there good.
Lyrl took the Brainiac 'title' for himself.
I guess ONLY a Dox can claim it.

And the orphan thing, maybe Querl's dad died soon after the scene we saw.
That would still make Brainy an orphan at an early age.

We have to remember that this is the retroboot and the timeline HAS been changed somewhat.

Originally, Val wasn't resurrected and killed again, Lu didn't have her second self killed in the past, RJ Brande wasn't murdered at this point, Mysa didn't become the Black Witch, yada yada.

I agree that I hate Jeckie's and Lar's look but Cham may not know that his father is really dead since there has been a time block for the last year, as stated this issue.

I wonder is the Time Trapper is somehow involved with Brainiac since he's usually been the one to 'block time' in the Legion's past.

And I also like the nod to the reboot.

Car Fax (love that) is so self involved that it's hard to want anything to do with her, at all.
But, I feel that way about Zod and Ursa, too.

I felt that Jan's reveal was a gift to us, the fans of EL.
He's been pretty jacked around for MANY years and they gave him back to us, even if it's for a short time.

I'm satisfied.

Did anyone else think that the Superman kissing a costumed Lois (I hope) was pretty interesting?
It was in one of the commercials.
sigh
There's nothing like a good Superman kiss scene.
Add me to the list of those giving Sensor Girl's costume a thumbs down. There is nothing about it I like.

I'm not happy to see Element Lad back in pink. I would be thrilled to see him back in his Cockrum designed green and dark blue/black.

I didn't find much to enjoy about this issue. It makes me queasy and distrustful. I've really missed my monthly Legion fix since the 3boot series was cancelled. The overall concept of "Brainiac and the Legion of Super-Heroes" has me interested. I'm almost hopeful that chronal rift (pay attention guys, it's not a space rift) might help straighten out some of the continuity rifts that bog down the Johnsboot Legion. I'm big enough, though, to accept that many of those questions may never be answered.

My bigger fear is that we won't get a story at all. Are we just going to get more "previews". In many ways, Lightning Saga was a preview for a new Flash series and Countdown. Countdown was a preview for Final Crisis. The Action story line was a preview for Legion of Three Worlds. Legion of Three Worlds was a Final Crisis crossover and a bit of a preview for Blackest Night.

Robinson's run with Mon-El on Superman and the Legion's back up in Adventure have felt like little more than previews to "Brainiac and the Legion of Super-Heroes". I'm worried that I'm going to pick up the eight issues that come out over the next few weeks, and in the end there will be a big cliffhanger that says to be continued in "War of the Supermen".

So here I sit, wondering and worrying whether I should buy "Last Stand on New Krypton", "Supergirl" and "Superman" for the next couple of months. Things are more than a bit tight financially at home right now. I'm going to miss my Legion fix if I don't buy them. If I do, and they don't deliver, I'm going to feel really dumb. DC has done that too many times these past few years.

Comic books should not make me feel queasy. frown

A total guess would be that they were given solo things to do without communicating with each other to insure that everything could not be undone by one of them getting taken and the info pried out of them...which would also lead me to believe that there are redundancies built into their missions. In case one failed.
I think the boots might be the ugliest part of Jeckie's costume and that's saying some thing cause that's just a lot of ugly.

Haven't seen anything that hideous since Kitty Pryde designed her first costume.
let's keep the whole costume thing with some perspective...or would you guys rather have Sneckie back?
Oh big deal, they turned her into a snake. Be lucky they didn't carve her eyes out and make her possessed.

right his dad was alive and well when they left. so if your dad said to you 'this is my last will and testament' that is not a normal thing to say to any one let alone your kid. especially to your kid who is a detective..

Well, that's never exactly been a normal parent-child relationship, has it? They have their own weird dynamic. eek lol eek

I was telling mr_cleome last week that I need to have my will updated because it hasn't been for ten years. And I'm not even in a career where anyone's ever taken a shot at me.
Well, I don't hate Jeckie's costume. It really doesn't bother me that much, so i guess I'm in the minority here. Thats fine.

Jan in pink...don't even like it on women in bikini's. Its just an ugly pastel color to me. right up there with institutional green.

Mon's suit...wrong. Just so wrong.

That being said, thats about all the negative I have. I thought the story was fast paced, even with the exposition. I got a lot of reveals because I haven't been reading the superman books and don't plan to start to, and Paul is starting soon. That makes me happy.

And, I got to see my favorite legionaire, Timber Wolf, in quick action.

And this is the lead up to a new legion book. Color me happy. Not gonna nitpick it because I've seen enough of that at the WW boards over at DC.

Everyone on scans_daily is snerking right now because in the current Adventure story, Jan looks like he's delivering a strip-o-gram to the Kent household.

I still like the costume though.
that would be a good back up job for jan now that you bring it up

buying comics right now is low on my list..but i did download it cause i need to keep up with my legion
Just read it.

The Brainy story was decent. Didn't love the art but it wasn't bad.

I love Julian Lopez so I was excited about the next story. Element Lad the way I like him! Costume looked great. Everyone was talking about back in pink and I thought they meant the pink/white costume. But this is the magneta/black costume that rocks! And he doesn't have the perm anymore! wink

Loved the double page with the other members on it. On the cover i HATED Sensor Girl's costume but with Lopez drawing it I like it. It would look better without the mask but if her identity is a secret her powers work better. Tellus looked great! Cham looked a bit too young but he's a shape shifter so maybe he did it on purpose to look young for Mon and Kon...or to look like what Mon-El will meet him as in the future. I haven't kept up with Mon-El's story so I have to read it now.

Not liking having the Legion tied into every Superman event. I think less is more with the Legion-Superman relationship. Make their interaction their own event. Superman events are not GL events that rock. smile
I just loved reading this issue!
Not just because it finally brought all the Legionnaires-in-the-past-on-a-secret-mission stuff to a boil but also because, as so many on here have said already, it gave me my monthy Legion fix (gosh we Legion fans are "addicts" of a sort aren't we?? Oh well! LOL).
I agree that Jeckie's costume is a bit too circus performer-ish, and I prefer the pink/black costume on Jan.
Cham looks great in his new costume though but ME Lad needs an overhaul in the costume department badly. I think once the new regular Legion book starts we'll see Princess/Queen Projectra revert to her normal self again (platinum hair and a costume more befitting a monarch). She can lose the name "Sensor Girl" too as far as I'm concerned.
The Brainiac storyline sounds interesting and I for one am onboard with it.
I'm so happy the Legion's back in full force ... this is definately going to be the Legion's year.

I hope!
I never liked the name Sensor Girl either. If she used her powers effectively, she wouldn't need a disguise. She can disguise herself with her powers if need be, or not even show herself at all.
Element Lad back in the classic pink and black - awesome

Senor Girl - not so awesome. What was wrong with the orginal version?

I do like that it all finally coming together though.
What does "snerking" mean!??!
Snerk, definition of.

"1. A giggle that comes out more as a snort.

2. The noise you make when you snort your drink out your nose. (From trying not to laugh.)"
3. Senior leader and divine ruler in the monarchy state of Sner.
4. A romantic encounter with reboot Jeckie.
In general I thought the issue was OK for what it was - a set-up for everything else that's happening in the Superman titles.

Would agree stripping Element Lad looked a bit silly.

More importantly though I can't get over Sensor Girl's horrific new costume.

She looks like a drag version of Michael Myers from Halloween. It's actually disturbing.

More outrage here:

They are really keeping issue #9 a mystery aren't they??
There is no picture posted on the DC website solicits and to add to the mystery the info posted for #9 is exactly the same for #8 (which was a very cool issue by the way)!
I wonder what the final reveal will bring ... bet it's a bombshell though.
Finally got this issue - it was OK.

It was fun seeing the 31st century group get in a bit of old-school scientist-saving and I also enjoyed seeing the (until-recently) very long-underused 21st century members have their story come to a head, but as someone else said - this was just a lot of talking heads and not much actual 'adventure'.

Fortunately I read the much-better Last Stand of New Krypton #1 and the excellent Superman #698 straight afterward so its dullness was lessened somewhat.

Adding my gripes to the pile -

* Sensor Girl's costume is hideous and I hate the name too. There is nothing I like about Jeckie as 'Sensor Girl' and now that the person under the mask has been revealed the purpose of that identity is long over. God, I hope Paul changes everything about this character ASAP.

* Similarly, I hate Thom as StarMAN, hate the mask and think the funny-crazy schtick is well and truly DONE. I want him back in the 31st century as sane Star BOY please Paul.

* Having just read all of James Robinson's Superman run I am LOVING all the focus Tellus has been getting recently. The Guardian/Tellus friendship has got to be THE most left-field thing I've ever read in comics. Who would have predicted that relationship 20 years ago? Or even 1 year ago?

* Element Lad's never been my fave Legionnaire but with the way this character has been treated over the last few years I'm glad his fans got to see him get that cool shirt off moment here. And I like him in the pink and black too!

Looking forward to seeing the Legion take over this book full time!

Where do I start? As far as costumes go, I really wish the Legion would get completely away from the whole pervy leotard look. I liked most of Gary Frank's redesigns but apparently any character aside from Chameleon Boy who wasn't in those issues lost out. Element Lad and ME Lad are both in need of a serious update. I mean I like the pink and black color scheme for E Lad but hip boots and cocktail cloves? It's so 1970s Saturn Girl! Perhaps if he was on Profem or had established gender identity issues... Sensor Girl's costume didn't bother me quite as much as it obviously did others but it's still pretty bad. Better than the original with the shoulder pads and military buttons, but bad none the less.

Aside from that, I don't find there's much to really like about this story. Braniac 5's back story seems poorly thought out and completely inconsistent with what we know about Colu so far as well as kind of pointless. The weird Element Lad reveal just made me think of Catholic Priests or Boy Scout leaders. And why would Ma leave them alone after that lame "We have something private to discuss" explanation?

The whole story seems clunky and formulaic. Trying desperately to squeeze in disparate elements and a bunch of dangling plot lines from that horrible "Lightning Saga". The best thing about these two issues so far was the cover for the latest. That, and seeing the return of Quislet, Tellus, E Lad and ME Lad. I might just skip the rest.
